League of Women Voters Hysteria: "Voter ID = Voter Suppression!"

I have heard rumors about the League of Women Voters.

The discussion often suggests that the group has liberal leanings, and skews the uestions they read in that regard.

I and many others submit policy uestions of a significant diversity, yet they are rarely read.

Oftentimes, the uestions drawn from teh audience focus on environmental issues.

The slant of the meeings is very eerie.

The group takes positions on issues, and shows more of their liberal-leaning ... leanings!

Then I received this email, and was convinced of the faux social justice impulse of this "impartial" group:

The 2016 Presidential Election WAS Rigged
Voter Suppression Can Impact Outcomes

Washington, DC – This year, and for several years, there has been a concerted effort in many states to stop some voters from voting, or to make it much harder for them to participate. Since the Supreme Court rolled back key provisions of the Voting Rights Act in 2013, elected officials have purged existing voters from the rolls, made cuts to early voting, reduced polling places, put in place strict voter photo ID laws and levied onerous voter registration restrictions.

“We recognize the importance of a peaceful transfer of power as a hallmark of a functioning democracy, and we recognize that we have one of the best election systems and democracies in the world, but we also need to say it out loud:  This election was rigged.  And it needs to stop,” said Chris Carson, president of the League of Women Voters of the United States.

“It is clear that this kind of voter suppression could impact the outcome of elections,” Carson continued. “We may never know whether the efforts to block voter participation changed the outcome in any particular race – but we must be on guard for the future.”

Tight margins in some key elections show that suppression may play a role.

In Wisconsin, President-elect Trump beat Secretary Clinton by roughly 27,000 votes, however according to federal court, 300,000 registered voters lacked the proper photo ID.  In North Carolina, the closest governor’s race the country has seen in more than a decade is still unresolved, with fewer than 8,000 votes separating the current governor from his challenger.

“We are not talking about vigilante voter intimidation,” said Carson. “We are talking about official, legal voter suppression by state legislatures and election officials.”

Carson pointed especially to the work of Kris Kobach, the Secretary of State of Kansas, who engaged in a multi-year effort to stop eligible Kansans from voting.  Laws drafted by Kobach required restrictive documentary proof of citizenship to register by mail and at the DMV. Despite defeats in federal and state courts, Kobach still pushed to keep eligible citizens from voting.

“Some try to justify voter suppression as just politics as usual – trying to ensure their candidates will win,” Carson said.  “There is no excuse for erecting unnecessary barriers to voting.  It is not the American way.”

In 2016, the League worked to make sure voters impacted by new laws were aware of these restrictions. In Ohio, the League made thousands of phone calls to inform voters about that state’s purge. In Virginia, the League conducted outreach so voters knew about the new ID law. In Kansas, the League worked to register voters and provide them information. Across the country League members volunteered as non-partisan poll observers.

“Every eligible citizen should vote and the election system should help them participate rather than standing in the way,” said Carson.  “The League of Women Voters will continue our work to expand participation in the election process and work to give a voice to all Americans,” she concluded.

The League is gearing up to take a stand in statehouses and courtrooms nationwide to ensure no voters are left behind.

What states rigged their elections?  Here’s the list of 13 states with new voting restrictions in effect in the 2016 election:

  1. Alabama: restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. Arizona: limitations on mail-in ballot collection
  1. Indiana: provide proof of identification
  1. Kansas: documentary proof of citizenship
  1. Mississippi:  restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. New Hampshire: restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. Ohio: cuts to early voting, changes to absentee and provisional ballot rules, elimination of same day register and vote, and illegal purge of voters
  1. Rhode Island: restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. South Carolina: restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. Tennessee: additional restrictions with photo ID requirement and illegal purge of voters
  1. Texas: restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. Virginia: restrictive photo ID requirement
  1. Wisconsin: cuts to early voting and restrictive photo ID requirement

This is an incredible email--hysterical and unsubstantiated.

The League of Women Voters actually believes that a Voter ID is tantamount to voter suppression.

Really?!

How many cases of voter fraud have been uncovered in the past month?

83 ballots addressed to the same apartment.

Dead people are voting.

Now, following Jill Stein's abortive, self-serving voter recount, investigators have discovered major voter fraud in Detroit, Michigan. Ouch!

Voter fraud is a real problem. and compassion as a policy is not appropriate.

Voter integrity is essential for our democracy.

Living in California, I am more wary of voter fraud than ever. It takes an entire month to count every ballot. Let's talk about the automatic "motor voter" law which came into law last year and automatically registers people to vote as soon as they get their drivers licenses.

Just to let everyone know -- illegal aliens can get drivers' licenses in the state of California. There is no surefire way of preventing illegals from getting registered to vote!

This is outrageous! If the League of Women Voters are so concerned about rigged elections, let's talk about how easy it has become for non-citizens to get registered.

Other studies have shown that a record number of non-citizens have cast ballots in multiple states, too.

Of course, the press wants to suppress (pun intended) this truth. Check out CNN's own Chris Cuomo trying to silence recently re-elected Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA), who barely survived his latest election bid:

Cuomo may have called (or at least alleged) that Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and Darrell Issa are lying about the rampant voter fraud in our country.

They are not lying, and they are right to challenge the results and demonstrate ongoing concerns about this issue.

Voter integrity matters!

There is nothing wrong with ensuring a "restrictive" process.

No one wants illegal aliens voting, right?

No one wants convicted felons, minors, or anyone else who is legally barred from voting.

Here's a key example of Voter ID hysteria:

In Wisconsin, President-elect Trump beat Secretary Clinton by roughly 27,000 votes, however according to federal court, 300,000 registered voters lacked the proper photo ID.  In North Carolina, the closest governor’s race the country has seen in more than a decade is still unresolved, with fewer than 8,000 votes separating the current governor from his challenger.

Voting is a right -- but an accurate voter tally is essential, and voters must be responsible in order to exercise this right.

Preventing people from voting because they do not possess proper ID is not a hardship.

States across the country have mandated voter ID, whether they are deeply blue (Rhode Island), purplish (Wisconsin), or deep red (Mississippi).

The Voter ID laws are not about benefiting one political party over another.

Keep in mind that North Carolina, a battleground red state, has voter ID, and the election was close. The election still went to the Democratic challenger. Recall also that McCrory and other Republican lawmakers, and conservative groups throughout the state were pressing for the Voter ID law.

Voting is a serious responsibility, and no one should feel sorry for those individuals who have not taken the necessary steps to prove their identity and their right to vote.

PERIOD.

But the following allegation cannot go unchallenged:

The League is gearing up to take a stand in statehouses and courtrooms nationwide to ensure no voters are left behind.

What states rigged their elections?  Here’s the list of 13 states with new voting restrictions in effect in the 2016 election:

"Rigged"?

Really?!

Voter ID laws are crystal clear for every citizen in the states where they are required.

Democratic interest groups which contest these laws ... still require members to demonstrate ID in order to enter specific events.

The following situations and purchases require some for of ID:

The League of Women Voters has shown the group's true colors.

Left-leaning, liberal, prone to challenge any pursuit for voter integrity to make sure that "everyone" can vote.

I do believe that the American voting process needs modernization. India is the largest democracy in the world, in terms of population.

Tallying and collecting ballots is not a ardous process in that third world country, nor is it fraught with doubt and error.

Also, the vast majority of Indians are poor, barely survive on substinence wages (although the market is growing and prosperity is expanding) ...

Everyone has a Voter ID!

and

For the record, no one in that country screams and  yells about "rigged elections."

The Leageu of Women Voters is engage in shock and awe, or widespread slander when they claim that Voter ID rigs an election.

Contact the press contact for the League of Women Voters and demand that they stop lying about Voter ID--which is neither racist, restrictive, or wrong.

Tell them to start agreeing with the sentiments of elected officials like Congressman Darrell Issa to "bring confidence back to the process."
