Michael Barone ran the numbers, and found some outstanding shifts in national politics from 2000 to 2012, and particularly the following when looking over the numbers and voting patterns from Election 2012:
The biggest shift toward Republicans came in the Appalachian/Jacksonian belt --coal-rich West Virginia (12 points), Clinton's home in Arkansas (10 points) and Gore's in Tennessee (9 points), plus 5 point shifts in Kentucky, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Also, Mitt Romney's home states of Massachusetts and Utah shifted 6 points Republican.
West Virginia was the bluest state in the Union at one time. Even when the Solid South had gone from Democrat to Republican, Democratic lawmakers and Presidential candidates would rely on the Blue Mountain State to stay that way.
Not any more.
As for Massachusetts . .
Either hell has frozen over or a New Hope is dawning on this country.
Massachusetts, deep Blue Bay State, Marx-achusetts, is starting to show some red.
Yes, you read that right. Red in Massachusetts.
Where is the proof, and why this transition?
Central Massachusetts, Governor Charlie Baker, and before these two growing developments, a small-time state senator from Wrentham won the US Senate seat in a special election.
Massachusetts Democrats have lost their minds, embracing tepid communism and calling in good governance.
They toyed with their own version of Obamacare, and have endured skyrocketing health insurance prices, long before Obamacare was passed.
The state legislature tried to pass a cloud tax which would hit every business, and the voters were so outraged about it, that Democrats repealed a tax! MassResistance has not given up demanding pro-life and pro-family legislation, in spite of the Democratic supermajority on Beacon Hill.
Working-class Democrats are tired of the Boston elite dictating everything else to everyone else. The high taxes and regulations, and now the threats to their security following the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, have everyone on guard.
The Democrats in Massachusetts are simply not doing their jobs.
Massachusetts is going red right underneath everyone's feet, and Democrats better start paying attention.
