Aurelio Mattucci's Huge Win Against Two-Time Loser RINO Dishonest Mike Griffiths

I cannot rejoice enough over Councilman Mattucci's major win over former city councilman Mike Griffiths for the Torrance City Treasurer position.

Griffiths has a horrid reputation for lying to people in the city.

In 2018, I wanted him to support a Resolution against the Sanctuary State Law, SB 54. He made a bunch of excuses, stating that he didn't want to bring a "circus" of protesters to the city council.

How ironic that another circus--Black Lives Matter--would show up and shut down city council business for years. But that's another story for another day.

Griffiths said he would not support it. And yet, at the next city council meeting, there was a request for concurrence on a resolution against SB 54. Griffiths voted for it, along with Mattucci and Chen.

Councilman Milton Herring voted against it, along with Rizzo, Furey, and Goodrich, so the request for concurrence failed. Why would Griffiths tell me he opposed it, then went along with it when he had the chance?

This kind of double-dealing became commonplace with this guy.

I have shared before that Griffiths was particularly rude to me--as well as diffident--about supporting a Resolution of No Confidence in George Gascon. How could anyone find this problematic?

Of course, there was his long of history of arrogance toward the general public. I remember when he attended some of the Beach Cities Republicans meetings, and he would snap back at some of the questions posed by the members.

On the council, once George Chen became mayor, Griffiths would routinely remind the public: "Well, since I am the city councilmember with the most experience ..."

Of course, having experience does not make one an expert. The 15th US President, James Buchanan, had more political experience than most presidents before and after--and yet he's regarded as one of the worst presidents in our nation's history. Experience is not enough. Elected officials have to have class, honesty, and integrity.

Those are characteristics which Griffiths has long lacked.

He ran for Treasurer in 2022, and one would think that as a sitting city councilmember, he would have had the best chance. There were four other candidates, including, at that time, former city councilman Tim Goodrich (who left his seat for career reasons, I guess?). The current treasurer, Dana Cortez, was not showing up to work, and there were two other candidates, including conservative Rick Marshall (who managed to send out a mailer that year, too!)

Goodrich won. Griffiths couldn't beat a former city councilman, one who had quit his job before the end of the term! That is pretty sad. I also remember visiting Griffith's campaign Facebook page, and someone had posted my blog post calling out Griffiths for not wanting to take a stand against Gascon!

After George was elected mayor, Griffiths didn't want to issue a Resolution of No Confidence in the Los Angeles Health Director Barbara Ferrer. His opposition failed, since Sharon Kalani went along with it, and Asam Sheikh abstained (something he does quite a lot on the city council dias).

Griffiths supported tax increases. Griffiths was OK with the Pride Resolution. Griffiths wanted to increase the spending. He was never a true Republican.

Then he ran again for city treasurer.

What kind of support did he muster for his second bid for city-wide office?

Councilman Jeremy Gerson endorsed him, but do you notice anything funny about the photo?

It's AI! You can see the Google Gemini logo in the bottom right corner.

It's fake, just like the persona that Griffiths tried to present to the public over his last two campaigns.

Why didn't Gerson bother to show up for a photo shoot, anyway?

Gerson is a Democrat now, by the way, so that showed where his growing interests lie.

If you can't read the circled section, here's a larger print:

Yes, the liberal Democrat state assemblyman, who thinks it's OK for teachers to keep secrets from parents about their children, who made it easier for sex offenders to avoid the sex-offender registry, who wanted to make it harder to fire pervert teachers, who raised our gas taxes, he endorsed Griffiths.

If this doesn't scream RINO, I don't know what will.

I was stunned when I first saw this, and I had hoped to write something about it, time permitting. What a betrayal! Why would anyone, especially a supposed Republican, promote an endorsement from an abusive Democratic lawmaker like Muratsuchi? The state assemblyman even pushed for his chief of staff, Andrew DeBlock, to run against Griffiths in 2020!

I didn't have the time to go after this perverse endorsement. Getting out the vote for Mattucci was more important. Thankfully, that decision paid off.

Former city councilman and two-time loser for city treasurer, Mike Griffiths, has used the domain name "I Like Mike" for his campaign website ever since he ran for office, starting with the city council in 2014. It's time for him to get the message: No, we don't like him, and it's time for him to move on.

Do-Nothing Assemblyman Confronted at Torrance "No Kings" Protest

The residents of the South Bay are getting what they voted for.

They wanted open borders? They got open borders.

They wanted pro-criminal policies. They got lawmakers who put the lawless ahead of the law-abiding.

Instead of actually solving problems in the state, these lawless assemblymen take time to attend anti-Trump protests.

They just keep shouting about how much they hate Donald Trump, they show up to the vile protests filled with profanity-laden signs, and then they network and rub elbows with all the left-wing activists, so that they can say: "Look at me! I am doing something!"

Here's Al Muratsuchi in front of Torrance City Hall.

He had plenty of time to attend the No Kings Protest.

He also had plenty of time to campaign for Kamala Harris last year:

And what about the residents of Palos Verdes? I asked him about that, and he didn't want to talk about that. I did share with him that I am glad he campaigned for Kamala Harris, since that helped flip the state for Trump in 2024.

I hope he campaigns for Bernie Sanders and AOC in 2028!

"SHAME ON YOU, AL! HOW DARE YOU!" Muratsuchi Gets Hit Hard at September 7, 2024 Torrance Town Hall

I have attended a number of Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi's (D-Torrance) town halls.

For the last year, I have been taking a slightly different approach.

I am listening to more of the concerns of other people in the audience. Instead of simply spouting off my outrage with his terrible governance, I want to know if other people share my concerns.

In the past, I didn't really care or concern myself with how other people felt about local or state issues. Now, I am letting other people have their say first.

I have been pleasantly and gratefully surprised that many residents in the South Bay are sharing my frustration with Al Muratsuchi's abject liberalism. He puts illegal aliens, teachers unions, and left-wing woke policies head of the needs of his constituents.

And they are calling him out on it!

A number of people confronted Al Muratsuchi for wanting to keep obscene materials in libraries, available for children. A number of residents blasted Muratsuchi for pushing all the benefits for illegal aliens, while ignoring American citizens.

And then I pounced.

As in other town halls, Muratsuchi was clearly shaken when I confronted him for voting to undermine voter ID laws. I also blasted him for protecting pornographic books, keeping them available for children. I also brought up the horrific tenure of LA County District Attorney George Gascon, and how he should be supporting Nathan Hochman.

As expected, he accused me of stating outright lies, and his sycophant supporters all applauded him. I do appreciate, though, that other members of the audience pushed back on his charges against me, especially regarding voter ID laws.

Check out this confrontation with Asm. Muratsuchi, and let me know what you think.

Single Mother Complains About Home Loans for Illegals (AB 1840)

On September 7th, 2024, CA State Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), hosted a town hall in the city of Torrance.

He always uses the Torrance City Council chambers for his meetings.

Like the last town hall in 2023, the crowd was filled with a number of outraged citizens fed up with the terrible mismanagement in Sacramento.

The hottest topic? Illegal immigration, and the fact that the state legislature passed a bill that would allow illegal aliens to qualify for home loans and grant them $150,000 in loan payments!

This is beyond disgusting! The state legislature is using our money to aid and abet illegal aliens not only breaking into our country, but giving them housing, while American citizens struggle to make ends meet and cannot even afford basic necessities.

There were many comments slamming the state assemblyman This woman shared the plight that AMERICAN CITIZENS are facing just to purchase a home.

She is competing with all kinds of difficult challenges to purchase her own home.

"It's already harder for Americans to qualify."

She was really upset, and she was right!

This woman listed all the conflicts and challenges that American citizens face just to get a home.

And then the state legislature wanted to add illegal aliens to the mix!

It's just unbelievable how callous and uncaring our representatives have become.

This lady said it perfectly: "The system is against us."

Yes, indeed.

Groomer Al Muratsuchi Still Refuses to Grant Hearing for Parental Notification Bill AB 1314

Predatory Mark Berndt and Groomer Al Muratsuchi

California State Asm. Al Muratsuchi is one of the biggest cheerleaders for the drop-out factories we used to call "public schools."

When he first got elected in 2012, he was a guaranteed foot-soldier for the teachers unions, who bought his campaign, bought his seat, and bought him body and soul.

One of the first bills he introduced into the legislature?

AB 375, a bill that would have made it HARDER to fire pervert teachers. The bill was so bad, that even Governor Brown had to veto it.

Here's the full ad on Al's support for that terrible piece of legislation:

Al's bill would have allowed predators like Mark Berndt, the notorious serious child abuser from Miramonte Elementary School in LAUSD, to get away with his crimes, some suggesting that he had molested as many as 100 students!

Groomer Al Muratsuchbi also supported AB 1266 in 2013, which allowed males to use female restrooms in public schools across the state. Notice how a similar bill has NOT passed to force every private and public facility to allow men to use women's restrooms throughout the state, too. The kids are always targeted, and the groomers get to groom on campuses across the state.

And Groomer Al doesn't care. He has no problem pushing social engineering and outright abuse onto California's children.

Fast forward to 2020, and Groomer Al voted for SB 145, a bill that made it easier for sex offenders to avoid the sex offender registration. Yes. If a 24-year-old had sex with a 14-year-old, he (or she) could avoid the sex offender registry based on the discretion of the judge. That's what the bill did, and Groomer Al went all in on allowing sex offenders to abuse kids and above the sex offender registry.

How sickening does it get in Sacramento? Does anyone have any shame left in that town? Worse yet, Muratsuchi was the tie-breaking vote. It would have died on the floor of the State Assembly if he had voted for "No."

SB 145 was so bad, that outspoken progressive Lorena Gonzalez spoke out against the bill, and she urged a "No" vote on the floor of the State Assembly. As a chair for one of the key committees in Sacramento, that was an unprecedented move, her going against the state legislative leadership. And yet, Groomer Al voted for it.

In 2023 and even today, Groomer Al Muratsuch is blocking AB 1314 from getting a hearing in the CA State Assembly. This commonsense bill would require school districts to inform parents if their students are going by different names, pronouns, or claiming to be a different sex at the school.

Here's the full report from California Family Council:

California Assembly Education Committee Chair Al Muratsuchi is still blocking public debate at the state capitol over parent notification in schools despite polls showing the voters overwhelmingly support it. Last year, Assemblyman Bill Essayli introduced AB 1314, a bill requiring public schools to notify parents if a child starts identifying at school as a gender that does not align with the sex listed on his or her birth certificate.

The legislation was assigned to the Assembly Committee on Education, but Muratsuchi refused to set the bill for a hearing. This week there is an opportunity for him to change his mind before Friday’s deadline. But Muratsuchi is still refusing.

“Nothing good comes out of keeping secrets from parents,” Essayli told a crowd gathered outside the state capitol last week. “Nobody loves their children more than their parents. If children are struggling with their identity; if they are struggling with anything at school, they need their parents. To isolate them from their parents is to do them harm.”

“Unfortunately, this legislature is so arrogant, they are so pompous, they refuse to even give my bill a hearing,” he complained. “They don’t even want to take a vote. That’s how little regard they have for the people of this state.”

Muratsuchi explained the justification for his decision in a press release last April. “As Chair of the Education Committee, I will not be setting AB 1314 for a hearing, not only because the bill is proposing bad policy, but also because a hearing would potentially provide a forum for increasingly hateful rhetoric targeting LGBTQ youth.”

Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi

Greg Burt, vice president of the California Family Council, says this decision reveals the contempt some lawmakers have for the Constitutional rights of parents to guide and oversee the upbringing of their children. “Why is a discussion about keeping parents informed about the struggles of their children seen as threat towards LGBTQ-identified youth?” Burt asks. “Parents, keen to protect their children, always want to be informed about their kids’ lives. This is true for parents no matter what their political or religious affiliation.”

A recent California poll confirms this contention. A SPRY Strategies poll from last November shows liberal and conservative voters agree on parent notification. The poll asks the following question:

A school board voted to notify parents if their child identifies as transgender or the opposite sex. The Attorney General is suing that school district. Do you agree parents should be notified if their child identifies as transgender in school?”

58.1 percent of the respondents said they “strongly agree” with this statement. An additional 14 percent said they “somewhat agree.” Another Rasmussen poll from last May yielded similar results.

After Essayli’s bill was refused a hearing last year, he joined with a group of parental rights organizations (Coalition for Parental Rights) to promote parent notification policies in local school districts. (read more here) So far 10 California School Districts have implemented a notification policy of their own, even though California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against one of the school districts over the policy. (read more here

What is it with Creepy Groomer Al Muratsuchi, anyway? Why is he so determined to allow perverted adults in the classroom to get away with all kinds of predatory behavior against children?!

This is really disturbing!

At the May, 2023 town hall that he hosted in the Torrance City Council chambers, he received loud boos from the audience for blocking this bill in the State Assembly Education committee, which he currenlty chairs. I was stunned at the level of outrage directed towards him, considering that most of the voters are pretty moderate-to-liberal on most cultural issues. However, for protecting the systemic grooming of children in California classrooms. Strangely enough, he does not have the full video of that town hall on his YouTube channel ...

What will it take for voters to pay attention in the South Bay and start electing better people who actually care about the health and welfare of children? Why do so many voters from El Segundo to Palos Verdes turn a blind eye to this creepy groomer assemblyman, who is determined to give predator teachers and their enablers more protections than children and parents?

Tell Asm. Muratsuchi to vigin AB 1314 a hearing and vote YES!

Organization Director for MassResistance Runs for Office, Campaigns on Conservative, Pro-Family Platform

In left-wing Los Angeles area, Arthur Schaper’s run for California State Assembly shocked everyone!

An uplifting election story!

He got 10,000 more votes than previous GOP candidate - who had spent $1.5 million!

He got big endorsements, lots of support. He really angered the Left - and the squishy CA GOP!

December 7, 2020
ALT TEXT Arthur Schaper's campaign was bold and unapologetic - unlike most of the rest of the California GOP.

MassResistance Organization Director Arthur Schaper had not originally intended to run for the California State Assembly – or any public office.

But late last year a group of local citizens who admire his strong pro-family principles and MassResistance activism approached him and relentlessly urged him to do it. They raised the $1,104.00 filing fee to get him on the ballot. They found him an experienced campaign manager and treasurer.

So Arthur agreed to run. With limited but effective campaigning and very little money, he got 84,867 votes (about 37% of the total). This was over 10,000 more votes than the previous GOP candidate in 2018, who had spent $1.5 million, had a campaign office, a large organization, and campaigned heavily throughout the district.

How did Arthur do this well? We think it was because he has a strong common-sense (and pro-family) message – including opposing the LGBT agenda in the schools – that resonated with a lot of voters who were tired of the lunacy from Democrats.

Up against a terrible anti-family incumbent – in a difficult district

On paper, it’s certainly not friendly territory. The 66th Assembly District is known as the “South Bay” area of Los Angeles County. It includes Arthur’s home town of Torrance and extends along the coast from Manhattan Beach to Rancho Palos Verdes and east to West Carson. Not surprisingly, it is a majority Democrat area. With California’s legalized ballot harvesting, early voting, mail-in voting, and the usual ballot fraud, it’s become very difficult for Republicans like Arthur to gain traction.

However, the incumbent Assemblyman, Democrat Al Muratsuchi, is an enemy of pro-family conservatives. He’s voted for every anti-family bill in the Legislature. For example, this year, he was the tie-breaking vote in the Assembly to pass SB 145, which removed the sex-offender registry requirement for adult-child homosexual sex. In 2018 he was a strong advocate for AB 2943, which would ban counseling for adults suffering from unwanted same-sex attraction. (Luckily, MassResistance was able to stop that one from becoming law.)

ALT TEXT California MassResistance activists confronted Muratsuchi (left) at his public events about his support for the hideous bill SB 145.
ALT TEXT Protesting Muratsuchi's support for AB 2493 at his district office, in 2018.
ALT TEXT Reacting to Muratsuchi's explanation for his support for AB 2943 at an "town hall" event in 2018.

So people across the district felt that Muratsuchi needed to be opposed, and that Arthur Schaper was the best chance there was for that. Arthur continued his full-time work for MassResistance and did campaigning on weekends and occasional evenings. He always mentioned MassResistance when he was campaigning – and took strong positions on all the conservative issues of the day. His committee of supporters did everything they could, including texting over 60,000 people in the district.

Endorsement by Ward Connerly

One of the prominent ballot questions before the state in that election was Proposition 16. Back in 1996 California voters passed Prop 209 to end the leftist practice of race-based discrimination in college admissions and hiring practices in the state. University of California Regent Ward Connerly ran that effort and became a national figure. Liberals have hated it ever since. So this year the Left put forth Prop 16 to repeal it. (Luckily, that failed.)

During the campaign, Ward Connerly was so impressed by Arthur’s bold stand against Prop 16 (and on other conservative issues) that he publicly endorsed him! (One of Connerly’s staff members has now become a MassResistance activist!)

ALT TEXT Ward Connerly was outspoken in his support for Arthur's candidacy!

Other key endorsements

For 20 years The National Rifle Association had not endorsed any Republican candidates in District 66 – because they were soft on the gun issue. But this time the NRA strongly endorsed Arthur!

ALT TEXT Endorsed by the NRA.

Torrance City Councilman Aurelio Mattucci, a strong pro-family advocate, publicly endorsed Arthur, along with Hector Gastelum, the Otay Mesa Water District Director.

Torrance City Councilman Aurelio Mattucci is a major figure in local politics. His endorsement of Arthur was a big deal!

The slimy California GOP would not endorse Arthur!

In recent years Arthur (along with many other California conservatives) has been very vocal about the leftward lurch and moral corruption of the California State Republican Party. Many have described the CA GOP as having been largely taken over by “the establishment consultant class.” In particular, they have caved in on the LGBT agenda and other pro-family issues that are important to the grassroots. (Republicans in other states will surely recognize this!) Arthur has loudly called them out on that – and they really don’t like him because of that.

For example, Arthur was president of the Beach Cities Republicans, a local GOP organization. The CA GOP warned the membership that if they re-elected Arthur as president they would revoke the group’s charter! They elected Arthur anyway. And their charter got revoked!

The Beach Cities Republicans elected Arthur president TWICE - against the threats of the state party!

The CA GOP also tried to pressure local GOP groups to “disinvite” Arthur from speaking during his campaign – but none of them complied! Arthur is clearly popular among local Republicans.

Great support from his church!

Arthur belongs to a church that most people can only dream of! The pastor is a strong social conservative and not afraid to talk about the issues – and take action. The pastor openly endorsed Arthur and had him speak at the church several times during the campaign.

Arthur definitely has a gift for speaking clearly and powerfully on political issues. Here are two of his speeches before the congregation:

Arthur’s speech at the church on October 8, 2020

Arthur’s speech at the church on October 22, 2020

ALT TEXT Arthur, along with his pastor (left), addresses the church congregation about the issues before them in his election.

A vicious hate campaign against Arthur – but he fought back!

Not surprisingly, the left-wing radicals in the district became unhinged when they heard Arthur was running for the State Assembly with an unflinching pro-family and pro-America message. They went on a vicious social media rampage against Arthur.

ALT TEXT A left-wing wacko named Alexandra Lynn led a social media campaign against Arthur. But people also defended him. Below, one of the many memes that Lynn sent out against Arthur.
ALT TEXT

As we’ve all observed, these are very disturbed people, as exhibited by their obsessive hatred and inability to deal with issues rationally. Most pro-family people cower in fear when these attacks start to happen, and worse, pull back on their principled public stands. It’s really pathetic to watch. But not Arthur Schaper. He fought back. And it worked. The leftist radicals are the ones who began to cower and shrivel away. Arthur knows that these people – who love to be “bullies” – are really cowards inside.

Here’s an example of Arthur’s successfully fighting back at one of his rabid attackers.

Final thoughts

Although Arthur didn’t win, he got more votes than any of the “experts” predicted was possible. He was a first-time candidate in a hostile district who only raised about $4,000. He had a small group, and was opposed by his own state party. But his unflinching and fearless conservative pro-family message won support that was far greater than his reach!

In short, Arthur did the opposite of what most of the GOP does. And it got surprising results in a normally inhospitable environment. This should be a lesson for the rest of the Republican Party – and for conservatives everywhere!

Report on Arthur Schaper's Bid for State Assembly (Reflection)

This article was released in October 2020, a month before the election.

I was really impressed that the article had some degree of balance to it.

I do not apologize or regret one statement that was written in the article. The reporter actually got some pretty accurate information written about me.

2020 elections: L.A. County’s Assembly races at a glance

Al Muratsuchi, Arthur Schaper

District 66: Al Muratsuchi (D) vs. Arthur Schaper (R)

·         The District: District 66 is home to approximately 467,745 people living in Alondra Park, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Racho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, West Carson, and portions of Gardena, Harbor City and Harbor Gateway. About half of the district is White (46.33%), and the other half is primarily Asian (25.73%) and Latino (21.02%). The remaining residents are are mostly Black (4.84%). Despite a Democratic majority (42.72%), a Republican nominee won the seat in 2014.

·         The Incumbent: Al Muratsuchi (D-Rolling Hills Estates) has a mixed record over the last year, during which he voted for measures that capped rent increases at 5% a year, and forces debt collectors to leave the final $1,724 in bank accounts, but he also voted against bills that allow formerly incarcerated people to serve on juries, and expedited the process to obtain records of police misconduct in criminal trials. He’s received $31,000 in campaign contributions from the Los Angeles Police Protective League, and $37,000 from PORAC, which is the largest statewide law enforcement organization.

It's strange that the reporter spent so much time focusing on how much money and support Al Muratsuchi had receivevd from police officers and police associations. Was the press trying to push the whole "defund the police" narrative, too?

·         The Challenger: Arthur Schaper is running as a Republican, and has only managed to raise around $1,800 dollars for his campaign. Schaper, a supporter of President Donald Trump and a blogger, is against same-sex marriage, transgender bathroom rights, illegal immigration, and sex education in schools, which he claims was “foisted on us by the LGBTQ agenda.”

I    Inthe end, I raised $4,500. So far, I am within two percentage points of the previous GOP contender for this state assembly seat--and he spent $1.5 million! He also had the endorsements of the LA County and the California GOP. They Establishment did nothing for me, and I got nearly the same percentage, and I earned more raw total votes.

I am also pleased to share that I stand by everything that was written in the above paragraph. Yes, I do support Donald Trump. Yes, I am a blogger. I do oppose same-sex "marriage", the notion that confused men deserve to use women's bathrooms and vice versa. This is absolute madness. Since when did we actually think that men could become women, or that we had to trip over ourselves to normalize and embrace this madness?!

Yes, indeed, I do believe that we should simply remove sex-ed from the government schools, and put the responsibility back in the hands of parents and other local communities (churches, particularly). I don't recall where I stated that sex-ed was "foisted on us by the LGBTQ agenda", however ...

·         The Outlook: In the primaries, Schaper received about half as many votes as Muratsuchi. Additionally the majority of voters in this district are registered Democrats. While not impossible, without the major campaign contributions of his competitor, it seems unlikely that Schaper will be able to overcome Muratsuchi.

It would not  have been impossible to overcome. But hey --- I had to work a job, and I had grassroots support at the most. It was just not going to be the easiest road to hoe. That's life. I am glad that I ran, and perhaps I may run for office again. Who knows?

Final Reflection

The corporate media, including the SoCal News Group, is on its last leg. The Daily Breeze, which was bought up by SoCal News, has moved their headquarters at least two times: first from their flagship headquarters on Torrance Blvd. at the intersection with Palos Verdes Drive.

Then they moved to a set of rooms in a larger corporate building at the corner of Torrance and Hawthorne Bvld. Now they are somewhere in Hermosa Beach, in the same office as the Beach Reporter. Ouch! Oh, how the mighty are fallen!

Horrific: California passes LGBT bill that removes “sex offender” label for adult-child homosexual sex

California passes LGBT bill that removes “sex offender” label for adult-child homosexual sex

Signed by Governor over objections of many Democrats

MassResistance fought hard to stop it

Analysis: Result of long-term capitulation on the issue by pro-family movement

September 17, 2020
ALT TEXT The California Assembly (all wearing masks) suddenly takes up SB145 on August 31 - the very last day of the legislative session.

A huge problem in society is teenage boys (and also girls) being seduced and lured into homosexuality by “gay” older youth and adults. Many anguished parents have shared their heart-breaking stories of that with us. The “chicken hawk” – a homosexual man who seduces boys – is part of the homosexual vocabulary. As far back as 1972, the homosexual movement called for the repeal of age of [sexual] consent laws.

As we reported last June, there was a frightening LGBT bill in the California Legislature, SB 145, that would remove the mandatory “sex offender” label for adult-child homosexual sex. The bill was filed in Jan. 2019 by Sen. Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco), who is openly “gay” and has been an aggressive LGBT advocate in the legislature.

ALT TEXT Openly “gay” State Senator Scott Wiener (left) and “friend” at a recent San Francisco Gay Pride Parade.

At the time of our previous report the bill had been stalled in the Assembly’s Appropriations Committee for over a year by the Committee’s chairman, Lorena Gonzalez (D-Chula Vista). It was assumed to be effectively killed, though MassResistance continued to organize Gonzalez’s local constituents to push her to keep it blocked.

But suddenly everything changed. On Aug. 20, 2020, the Appropriations Committee voted to approve SB 145 and move it forward. On Aug 31, the very last day of 2020 legislative session, both houses of the California legislature voted to pass it. On Sept. 11 it was signed into law by the Governor. (One pleasant surprise: Every Republican voted against it.)

During that time, MassResistance worked around the clock to stop the bill, marshalling citizens across the state to pressure their legislators. Some got meetings with staffers. Some MassResistance activists confronted legislators at town halls and other public events. After the bill passed the legislature, we worked with some Democrat legislators who opposed the bill to attempt to persuade the Governor to veto it. But the sudden momentum was too great, even though several left-wing Democrats besides Gonzalez were against the bill.

How did this happen? The bill had languished and seemed dead to most people who follow those things in California, then at the last minute took off like a rocket. Here are the two things that we noticed:

Legislators’ dishonest action

Assembly member. Lorena Gonzales, chairman of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, had sat on the bill for over a year.  Then on Aug. 20, 2020, she brought it up for a vote – likely under pressure from the leadership.

As the Bill 145 vote-tally page shows, it passed the Appropriations Committee by 10 to 6 with 2 abstentions. Since abstentions are considered “No” votes under California legislative rules, it was effectively a 10-8 vote.

But if you look carefully, three of the committee members who voted “Yes” to pass SB 145 out of Committee (Calderon, Eggman, and Eduardo Garcia) later voted “No” or abstained (both effectively a “No” vote) when it got to the Assembly floor for the final vote! Had those three voted the same way in the committee as they did on the Assembly floor, the bill would have died in committee.

Why did they do that? That way they could please their left-wing party bosses and the LGBT lobby by getting it out of committee, and they could still tell their constituents that they opposed it when the Assembly voted! (The leadership knew they had the votes to spare in the full Assembly.)

It’s a very corrupt process, one which allows lawmakers to make it seem as though they showed courage and integrity in voting against their party, when in fact they were going along with their policy agenda the whole time. We’ve contacted their offices for an “explanation,” but the three Assembly members and their staffs refuse to comment on it.

SB 145’s opponents lose the argument

The rallying cry of the LGBT lobby was that bill SB 145 was simply to bring about equality – treating everyone the same.

Since 1944 in California, if an adult (age 18 or over) had heterosexual relations (i.e., vaginal sex) with a teenager (age 14-17) and the age difference between them is less than 10 years, then the adult has not been required to register as a sex offender – it was up to the judge’s discretion. But if the adult had homosexual relations (i.e., sodomy, oral sex) with a teenager, then he was required to be registered as a sex offender – the judge had no discretion.

SB 145 removed the requirement of being a registered sex offender if the adult had homosexual relations with the minor, and gave the judge the same discretion as with heterosexual sex.

The LGBT activists and the Democrat leadership argued that the previous difference in punishment was unfair, unequal, and discriminatory. This bill just made it the same for both. It was a powerful argument. Who could be against equality?

But in fact, it was unequal for a good reason. The law rightfully recognized the depraved and destructive character of homosexual sex (both physical and mental) and how it affects a child much more profoundly. When that original law was passed (in 1944) the legislature understood that very well.

But in 2020 virtually nobody (except MassResistance!) was willing to say that. They were afraid the Left might call them “homophobic.” So as a result, the arguments that were used against the bill were logically pretty weak.

Much of the time, the opposition to SB 145 seemed completely disjointed. Lorena Gonzalez – a liberal, progressive Democrat – spoke passionately against the bill during the Assembly debate. She started off by saying that she supported LGBT “equality” which this bill would provide. But then, speaking as the mother of a 14-year-old, she said she was very uncomfortable with adults having sex with young teenagers, and therefore was voting against it. It begs the question: If she’s so worried about children being exploited, why didn’t she file a different bill that made heterosexual sex with minors a mandatory sex offender listing? Her speech (and the similar speeches by other opponents) didn’t do much to dissuade any of the bill’s supporters.

The larger failure of the pro-family movement

If conservatives aren’t willing to speak out on this issue, we certainly can’t expect liberals to do so!

Let’s be honest. This is the result of a fear among pro-family people of opposing the concept of LGBT “equality” with heterosexuality and telling the truth about perverted behaviors. It has been predominant in mainstream conservative circles for many years.

We could tell story after story of pro-family activists around the country who will fight the “hetero” portion of Comprehensive Sex-Ed and other horrible programs in their schools, but won’t oppose (at least publicly) the “homo” part of it. They will even make it a point to say “No, we’re not ‘anti-gay.’ We’re just against ‘inappropriate’ sex-ed material.” It’s one of the reasons our side loses that battle so frequently. They’re selling out children’s well-being for their own political cover.

Of course, a huge part of the problem is that a frightening number of so-called pro-family conservatives (most of whom claim to be religious) actively accept the absurd LGBT “born that way” argument. As a result, they may be uncomfortable with the latest transgender madness, but they aren’t really opposed to the homosexual agenda targeting children.

Final reflection

In many ways, as we’ve discussed above, the mushy pro-family movement has become a major impediment to fighting and stopping this hideous agenda. This is not just in fighting the exploitation of children, but also the “gay marriage” issue, oppressive LGBT non-discrimination laws, transgender public restrooms, etc.

Too many pro-family groups avoided labeling SB 145 as what it apparently really was: a way to make it easier for homosexual adults to prey on vulnerable teenagers. This is what the LGBT movement has sought for decades – and has incrementally worked towards.

Most pro-family groups also misjudged the power of LGBT militancy in the California legislature. They did not believe that such a horrible bill would actually make it to the Governor’s desk – and be signed into law. So they didn’t put in the hard day-to-day lobbying work against it.

Too many family groups focus on creating relationships and persuading lawmakers and LGBT groups to stop pressing forward with the LGBT agenda, rather than confronting them outright that everything about the LGBT movement and its ideas are wrong. They are only focused on the policies that are pushing more offensive intrusions against children. They have all but given up on stopping the LGBT onslaught at its core. They still do not understand that there is no room for compromise or dialogue with LGBT activists and their supporters, whether in the major parties or interest groups around the country. Still, many pro-family lobbying groups think they can work out compromises to slow the spread of this dangerous agenda, when they should be working towards undermining the agenda completely.

Politicians need to be made to feel ashamed of supporting this horrible agenda, not celebrated for it. MassResistance will keep up this fight!
