Law Enforcement Matters: ICE Comes to Torrance, CA

The sob stories are considerable coming out of Torrance, CA regarding immigration enforcement.

I cannot tell you how many local politicians told me that illegal immigration is not an issue in the South Bay.

What a crock!

Concerned teachers and community members are rallying together to help a Southern California fourth grader after he was detained by immigration officials.

Martir Garcia Lara, 9, is a student at Torrance Elementary School. On May 29, he attended an immigration hearing in downtown Los Angeles with his father, Martir Garcia-Banegas, 50.

However, instead of receiving an update on his father’s immigration status, the boy and his father were both detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and separated from each other.

If you are in the country illegally, you are breaking the law. I have no compassion for the parents putting their children in harm's way like this. What is doubly disturbing is that the school districts not only do not object to illegal aliens enrolling in public schools, they rely on them for funding, since more parents are just taking their kids out of public schools entirely on account of the bad education, the radical indoctrination, and the lack of safety.

Despite protests and claims otherwise, I think these issues plague Torrance Unified, as well.

“He’s alone and he’s not able to return home,” said PTA president Jasmin King.

This sounds like a lie. He was detained by ICE along with his father, was he not? The PTA is all in on protect illegal aliens and championing every left-wing cause imaginable. They are the biggest source of the rot and collapse in public education.

Teachers at Torrance Elementary reached out to King and the rest of the PTA, asking them for help in somehow getting the young boy and his father released and back to Southern California.

He's not coming back, folks. He was in the country illegally, and so was his son. There is no excuse for any entity in the United States to harbor illegal aliens, to aid and abet their unlawful presence.

That includes the kids.

“We have not received any information on why they were detained,” King said. “All we know is that Martir is just a fourth-grader who’s by himself, without his dad, without a parent, and just in a place that he probably doesn’t know, so we can only imagine what he might be feeling.”

King said the boy has been a student at Torrance Elementary since the first grade.

Why is the local press playing this up? It's a sob story to induce compassion for open borders, to stir people up against the enforcement of our immigration laws. Enough already. During the previous administration, the federal government allowed just about anyone to come into this country illegally. The migrancy effect overwhelmed local cities, states, and their institutions. The American people have had more than enough of mass illegal immigration. All the plays and ploys on our compassion will no longer work.

PTA members have since reached out to federal, state and local leaders to intervene and are asking other parents and community members to help in any way they can.

King said she and other PTA members are also prepared to help the boy and his father with any legal aid or financial assistance should they need it.

Why doesn't the PTA focus on helping American students for a change? How about helping the law-abiding citizens for once? Perhaps the Trump Administration to investigate and file charges against school districts and local PTAs for flouting and frustrating our nation's federal immigration laws, too.

Final Reflection

This story hits home for me on two levels.

First, Torrance is my hometown. I am glad to live hear, and I hope never to leave here. Second, I graduated from Torrance Elementary, the "Greatest Little School in the West!" It's sad that all this open border-illegal immigration madness is no weighing in and imposing on our city, too.

Perhaps this is the reality check that Torrance residents need to grapple with in order to stop voting for the same vain, lame politicians who celebrate lawlessness and corruption rather than upholding law and order and ensuring public safety.

Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman Won't Comply with Sanctuary State Law

This is the kind of leadership we need to see across the state of California.

Doctrine of Lesser Magistrates must become the norm, the rule, the necessity from all our constitutional officers throughout the state of California.

Sheriffs are special, noble officers. They are duty-bound to the United States Constitution, and they answr directly to the people, not to the Governor. not to the Board of Supervisors, and not to any federal official, either.

God bless this Sheriff!

Meet the only sheriff vowing to defy California’s sanctuarylaw

JACKSON, Amador County — Sheriff Gary Redman guided his gray Ford Expedition down Highway 49, past the oak-studded foothills and 19th century barns of Northern California’s Gold Country

“I love this place,” he said. “I’d do anything to protect my county. If I have to break state law to do it, that’s what I’ll do.”

Even if that means taking a surprising stand in a state known for protecting its immigrants. In a 274-word announcement posted last month to the Amador County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Redman pledged to break California’s sanctuary law by informing Immigration and Customs Enforcement of any undocumented immigrants in his jail whom he deems “a serious threat.”

Never mind that Redman serves an oft-overlooked county about 130 miles northeast of San Francisco where less than 6% of the roughly 40,000 residents are foreign-born. Though President Donald Trump’s return to office in late January emboldened his supporters to challenge California’s pro-immigration laws that some view as anti-public safety, Redman remains the only sheriff in the state who has pledged to defy state sanctuary law, which largely forbids police from participating in immigration issues.

In doing so, he vaulted Amador County to the center of a heated statewide debate on immigration enforcement. When Redman’s inbox began to flood post-announcement with interview requests, he cut short his off day, shaved his 5 o’clock shadow and told his wife she had been right: This was becoming a big deal.

Whether people considered the 57-year-old Redman a traitor to his community or a patriot might have depended on their perspective. Passed in 2017 during the first Trump administration, California’s sanctuary law was created to make undocumented immigrants feel comfortable seeking out local police when problems arise.

The law’s advocates, who include many sheriff’s departments, now worry that Redman’s decision to break it would have the opposite effect as intended. Rather than making Amador County safer by notifying ICE of certain violent people who are in the country illegally, he might in fact hurt public safety. Many unauthorized immigrants wouldn’t cooperate with police on non-immigration matters, Redman’s critics argue, out of fear that they could get deported.

“When a sheriff comes out and proclaims, ‘We want to work with ICE and violate state law,’ it doesn’t inspire public safety — especially among the immigrant community,” said Maria Romani, immigrant rights program director at the ACLU of Northern California. “Now is the time to be working with the immigrant community, not against it.”

Romani was among the many people who were confused when Redman took such a brazen stand against state sanctuary law. Unlike their counterparts in certain other Trump-supporting counties in California, Amador County officials didn’t have a history of vocally opposing immigration policy, which made some wonder: Does Redman have a political agenda? And if so, is he elevating it over the public safety of his community?

Redman plans to run for reelection in 2028. Though he’s adamant that his public rejection of state sanctuary law is not politically motivated, few doubt that the move only buoyed his already favorable odds of serving his red-majority county beyond this term.

“It’s not his job to enforce immigration law, and the state Legislature has made that extremely clear,” Romani said. “It’s frightening to me that he’s taking this stand when it doesn’t serve the greater good of his community.”

Most people in Amador County, which has nearly twice as many registered Republicans as registered Democrats, see things differently. On top of touting a burgeoning wine-making scene, two large casinos and several old-timey main streets reminiscent of its gold-rush heyday of the mid-1800s, this rural region nestled into the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada features serpentine roads dotted with numerous Trump signs.

Many residents know the name of Laken Riley, the nursing student who was murdered last year in Georgia by an unauthorized immigrant from Venezuela. The Laken Riley Act, the first piece of legislation that Trump signed into law at the start of his second term, directs authorities to detain and deport immigrants who are accused — not yet convicted — of specific crimes, if they are in the U.S. illegally.

“Gary’s for law and order and safety, and this is a safety issue,” said Jim Guidi, who owns and operates a popular radio station, KVGC, in Amador County. “These people we’re talking about came here illegally, so they need to go. Simple as that.”

Federal courts upheld California’s sanctuary law during Trump’s first term, yet Redman still felt compelled to assert his belief in that Feb. 18 news release posted to Facebook that following it would violate federal law. Many locals not only agreed with him — they lauded him as a hero.

By becoming the state’s only sheriff to announce his intention to outright break state sanctuary law, Redman endeared himself to ardent Trump supporters who fear California could lose federal funding if the state doesn’t cooperate with Trump’s mass deportation agenda. This perhaps helps explain why a Change.org petition pleading for Redman’s removal as sheriff has netted only 24 signatures in five weeks.

“I think Republicans throughout the state saw an opportunity when Trump was reelected to push back against the state’s more liberal approach to immigration policy,” said Cathy Abernathy, a Republican strategist based in Bakersfield. “People like (Sheriff Redman) probably feel more comfortable doing what they always wanted to do now that Trump is back in office.”

Along the way, Redman has put himself at risk of state retribution. Asked about potential punishments for Redman, California Attorney General Rob Bonta reiterated in an email to the Chronicle that federal courts have found that the state sanctuary law doesn’t conflict with federal law, and that he is “closely monitoring law enforcement compliance.”

In what could be a sign of things to come, Washington Attorney General Nick Brown filed a lawsuit three weeks ago saying the sheriff in a rural, predominantly red county in the southeastern part of that state had been breaking state sanctuary law for at least three years by helping federal immigration officers round up suspected undocumented immigrants. The lawsuit alleges that Adams County Sheriff Dale J. Wagner has gone out of his way “to enable federal immigration agents to interview or question people in custody.”

On an overcast Wednesday morning in mid-March, Redman leaned forward at his desk as he stressed that he has no intention of following Wagner’s example and rounding up unauthorized immigrants for mass deportations. Three different American flags hung prominently on the adjacent walls.

“I know people think I’m some far right winger, but I’m really not,” said Redman, who considers himself a moderate Republican. “I’m just a guy trying to do right by the county I love.”

A self-described “surf bum” from the sandy beaches just south of Los Angeles, Redman was an unmotivated 19-year-old when his father gave him an ultimatum in 1988: “Either get a full-time job or attend college full-time.” After dropping out of the couple of classes he was taking at the local community college, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he was randomly assigned a job as a police officer.

While stationed in Germany, Redman met and married a woman from near Amador County. After finishing his four-year commitment to the Air Force, he moved to his new wife’s hometown, where he found work in her family’s concrete-pumping business. It didn’t take Redman long to regret leaving law enforcement.

Then, when he was finally hired by the Los Angeles Police Department in 1996 after three separate attempts, he began to miss Gold Country. Two years later, Redman took a 26% pay cut to join the Amador County Sheriff’s Office as a lateral deputy and raise kids in a more peaceful environment.

While cruising the remote county’s backroads earlier this month, he chuckled when a police dispatcher radioed for help moving a herd of goats blocking a nearby street.

“That’s life in Amador right there,” Redman said. “I can’t tell you how many ostriches, emus and cows I’ve had to chase over the years.”

But in a county with the state’s third-highest suicide rate, Redman also has far-grimmer responsibilities. His jurisdiction is so tiny that he moonlights as its coroner.

By investigating deaths up close, he has a near-constant reminder of all that must still be done to improve Amador County’s quality of life, which is why he plans to break state sanctuary law if he feels a specific circumstance warrants an undocumented immigrant being turned over to ICE against protocol. As he acknowledged, such situations are rare — especially in a 605-square-mile area where roughly 75% of residents are white and almost 98% are U.S. citizens

According to state sanctuary law, police can actually inform immigration agents about an undocumented immigrant once that person has served the court-mandated sentence for what the penal code considers a “serious” or “violent” felony — a wide-spanning list that includes everything from a felony DUI, to obstruction of justice and bribery. To justify breaking state law, Redman said, he would need an inmate in his 76-person jail who’s in the U.S. illegally, poses a danger to the community and is in custody for an offense that wouldn’t otherwise enable Redman to contact immigration agents lawfully.

Though Amador County has one of the smallest foreign-born populations in the state, Redman said local police officers most frequently come across unauthorized immigrants during raids at illegal marijuana grows. According to stats compiled by Redman’s office, this scenic region known as the “heart of the Mother Lode” has had 73 illegal marijuana operations over the past decade that resulted in the arrests of 232 immigrants, many of whom police believed were undocumented.

“There’s absolutely no good reason why a locally-elected sheriff should not be able to report an illegal marijuana grower to immigration authorities if he’s worried about what that person could do next,” said Rep. Kevin Kiley, R-Rocklin, who recently introduced a federal bill that would allow local police to ignore state sanctuary laws. “The idea that the state would try to impose itself in that situation is completely irrational.”

Still, that’s not why Redman published last month’s now-infamous news release. All he wanted was to quell the relentless questions he had fielded from residents — and even some deputies — about how his office would handle immigration issues during Trump’s second term.

Perhaps more startling than the backlash to that announcement: None of California’s 57 other sheriffs have joined him in vowing to defy state sanctuary law.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, a top Trump ally who’s running for governor, would only go so far as to promise he’d work “around” the liberal-leaning statute to assist federal immigration enforcement. In recent weeks, at least two California towns, Oroville and Huntington Beach, reinforced the awkward political minefield some conservative leaders are navigating: They declared themselves “non-sanctuary” cities, yet promised to continue complying with state sanctuary law.

Sheriff Gary Redman said, “I became a cop to help people. I guess in a way, I like taking bad people to jail, which is helping people.”

Louis Bryant III/For the S.F. Chronicle

Redman figures he doesn’t have an aptitude for such posturing.

After an hour-long drive through Amador County’s rolling green hills and steep canyons, he walked through the lobby of his sheriff’s office and stopped at a large American flag banner. Six words were emblazoned across it in big block letters: “PROUD TO SERVE, READY TO PROTECT.”

“Seeing that every day is just a good reminder of why we do what we do,” Redman said. “No state law can change that.”

Single Mother Complains About Home Loans for Illegals (AB 1840)

On September 7th, 2024, CA State Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), hosted a town hall in the city of Torrance.

He always uses the Torrance City Council chambers for his meetings.

Like the last town hall in 2023, the crowd was filled with a number of outraged citizens fed up with the terrible mismanagement in Sacramento.

The hottest topic? Illegal immigration, and the fact that the state legislature passed a bill that would allow illegal aliens to qualify for home loans and grant them $150,000 in loan payments!

This is beyond disgusting! The state legislature is using our money to aid and abet illegal aliens not only breaking into our country, but giving them housing, while American citizens struggle to make ends meet and cannot even afford basic necessities.

There were many comments slamming the state assemblyman This woman shared the plight that AMERICAN CITIZENS are facing just to purchase a home.

She is competing with all kinds of difficult challenges to purchase her own home.

"It's already harder for Americans to qualify."

She was really upset, and she was right!

This woman listed all the conflicts and challenges that American citizens face just to get a home.

And then the state legislature wanted to add illegal aliens to the mix!

It's just unbelievable how callous and uncaring our representatives have become.

This lady said it perfectly: "The system is against us."

Yes, indeed.

Idaho GOP: America's Existential Crisis is Illegal Immigration

America's Existential Crisis: Illegal Immigration Threatens Our Nation's Foundation and Future

By Dorothy Moon, IDGOP Chairwoman

What on Earth is going on?

Recent videos show military aged young men from Africa crossing our southern border unimpeded.

More than 37,000 Chinese nationals crossed our southern border illegally in 2023 alone.

Debit cards of $10,000 apiece are being handed out to illegal immigrants in New York City.

This week in San Francisco a foreign national was sworn in as an official on the elections commission.

What the hell is going on?

This is not merely a frustration, not a minor political problem to worry about, this is an absolute outrage, an existential crisis for our nation!

America is in danger like never before. Why is this happening? Who is responsible? We are sick to death of hearing platitudes like “secure our border”. Our leaders have no intention of securing our border, and it’s time we ask ourselves why?

It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, and it’s expensive. Yet it gives Washington elites and the Biden administration — or whoever is running the White House — more power.

How?

Illegal immigration takes power away from law abiding citizens. It makes a mockery of the rule of law, giving power to those who intentionally break our laws. If you value freedom, law and order, and our cultural heritage, you should be outraged. If you respect our nation, the greatest ever to exist in human history, then it’s time to ask what the hell is going on?!

Illegal immigration takes jobs away from law-abiding Americans. It threatens the safety of our communities. It dilutes our voter base, taking away the sanctity of your vote.

You might think the problem is far away from here. Let Texas deal with it, let the federal government worry about enforcing the law. But it affects Idaho too, that’s the plain truth of the matter. Millions of illegal immigrants pouring into our country year after year affects all of us. Illegal immigration brings crime, drugs, sex trafficking, terrorism, and more. When we stop enforcing our laws, we’re telling all the bad actors in the world that we are defenseless, that they can come here and do whatever they want.

It doesn’t have to be this way. There are enough laws on the books now to take care of this problem, and House Republicans passed a strong border bill last year. National leaders can solve this crisis today if they wanted to, which means they want it to continue. It’s time to say enough is enough. It’s time for patriotic Americans to stand up and say WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

More Winning: LAUSD Losing Students, Losing Money, Losing Parents, Losing Power to Indoctrinate and Harm

Loser Albert Carvalho of LAUSD
by way of Miami-Dade County, Florida

Working with MassResistance, I have been privileged to work with parents all over the United States. I even connected with a number of activists in Miama-Dade County, who had been fighting against their countywide school district earlier this year.

Miami-Dade County schools wanted to push all kinds of LGBT perversion in the children. They even wanted to replace Hispanic Heritage Month with LGBT History Month. Disgusting.

The parents also told me that their school district superintendent, Alberto Carvalho, was hired by LA Unified School District!

Wow, what a small world.

Things are not working out so well for the new hire in Downtown Los Angeles, either. Check out this report from EdSource:

Enrollment decline: LAUSD's Carvalho says families leaving the state or choosing to home-school

Where have all the students gone?

They have fled from the poisonous, decrepit, failed system that is government-run education in Los Angeles County. That's what!

California’s K-12 enrollment decline of more than 270,000 students since the pandemic began is largely attributable to people leaving the state, not enrolling children in transitional kindergarten or kindergarten, or deciding to home-school their children but failing to file the paperwork to account for them, the head of the state’s largest school district and other experts said Sunday.

The pandemic allowed parents to see what their children were REALLY learning in the classroom. Parents from all over Los Angeles County alone showed me all kinds of terrible lessons that the SJWs disguised as teachers were pushing on their kids.

The fact that learning was Zoomed into the home gave parents unprecedented access to learn what their children were taking in, and these revelations helped parents rise up against all kinds of perverse lessons and curricula, including Critical Racist Theory, Critical Perv Theory (LGBT, Queer, etc.)

“In Los Angeles, in a very, very obvious and evident way, the greatest loss was in (transitional) kindergarten and kindergarten students,” LA Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho told a gathering of education journalists.  “You have to really accept that parents made a decision, ‘I’m not going to send my kid to pre-k or kindergarten.'”

Notice how this report makes it seem as the parents' decision was unthinking, unfeeling, or arbitrary. The truth is that parents are taking into account the long-term needs of their children, and they don't want them to suffer in a pandemic-driven school system that puts the desires of government employees and politicians ahead of children and their parents.

Regardless of where the students ended up, their learning has been harmed, Stanford University education professor Thomas Dee said. Dee’s research described how the youngest students were most affected by not returning to school following Covid. His work was highlighted in a collaboration report that included EdSource, The New York Times and Big Local News, a data journalism project at Stanford.

Not sure what to think of this statement at first glance. How do academics measure real educational achievement nowadays? The metrics for assessing student performance in homeschools and home-school co-ops deserve more attention and a different kind of metric, I think, since it's about more than mere test scores.

“Enrollment data shows a disruption that students are experiencing, and those disruptions matter because research literature shows switching schools, particularly in a reactive manner, impacts development,” Dee said.

The disruptions are the fault of school districts and the administrators who shut students out of their education. Don't blame the parents!

And “missing out on early childhood educational experiences can be really consequential,” Dee added.

Kids are still missing out because in too many districts, they are still required to wear masks. Covering up a child's mouth impairs their speech and cognitive development. It's just so vile!

Across California, the number of students enrolled in the public school system dropped below 6 million this year for the first time in two decades. As districts navigated the sudden shift to virtual learning amid the pandemic, declines steepened as many families faced extra barriers, considered alternatives to the public school system or chose to delay enrollment for their youngest learners.

These barriers didn't come out of nowhere. These barriers are the result of selfish politicians and bureacrats--and teachers--who put their wants ahead of the needs of children. No, adult teachers do not need to wear masks, and NO, they have no right to demand that the students in their classrooms wear masks, either. They were perfectly capable of teaching without all the COVID-19 restrictions and regulations. A lot of greedy teachers unions and their enablers wanted to milk the government systems for as much taxpayer dollars as possible without having to work.

The enrollment declines, both in California and nationally, are going to lead to fiscal impacts and school closures in the years ahead, said Daniel Domenech, executive director of the American Association of School Administrators.

GOOD!

“You’re going to have to sell buildings when they become empty. You’re going to have to exit staff because you won’t need the number of teachers that you have,” Domenech said. “Parents didn’t want their children in school because they were afraid.”

GOOD! And they have only themselves to blame. This is some of the best news I have read yet, especially considering how difficult it is for parents to get pro-student responses from school districts, administrators, and teachers. They brought this mess on themselves, and they deserve to suffer from it.

But, he added, the impact of the pandemic on students is profound.

“The whole virtual learning experience was a fiasco because school districts were not prepared for virtual learning,” Domenech said. Nationally, there’s “a pulling away of students from the public school system because of the impact of Covid.” But he said it’s unclear how many of the students will return.

Virtual learning is that, virtual, i.e. not real. Children need constant contact and interaction with their teachers and peers to improve their learning and development.

The three men spoke Sunday afternoon at the national conference of the Education Writers Association in Orlando, Florida.

In Los Angeles, enrollment has been steadily declining for two decades. The district has 58% of the student population it had at its peak in the early 2000s, now at 430,000 students.

Los Angeles Unified is one of the worst school districts in the country. The learning outcomes are terrible, there is no accountability, teachers and administrators have a long record of ignoring, enabling, or even enacting abuse against students. The politics of the school board, the teachers union, the administrators, and the state legislature has created a hostile, untenable situation in which constant rancor is the norm, not the exception. Worst of all, the needs of the students is completely ignored.

But data shows those students did not migrate in large numbers to private and charter schools, the superintendent said. Charter schools in the district also had an enrollment decline of about 2% during the pandemic, he said.

Charter schools are going woke, too, and parents are breaking away from that mess, too. Charter schools alone are not the solution. School choice will impose competition on all schools, certainly, but most importantly curricular integrity and

LAUSD’s enrollment decline has only increased since the pandemic hit. The district lost “9,000 kindergartners when the pandemic hit,” Carvalho said. “That’s a huge, a huge number.”

The district has hired people to go into neighborhoods to try to track down missing students and interview their parents, he said, describing a massive push in which he and other top administrators have joined others to try to keep track of 30 children each.

If this does not sound creepy to you, I don't know what to tell you. The school district spent more money that it does not have to hire people to "track down missing students." TRACK DOWN?! What is this? Now school districts are extending their police-state machinations outside of the classroom and pressuring/bullying parents! We all know where this is leading: these observers, "trackers" are going to find out whether the parents are providing any kind of education. If they think that the level of education does not meet their "standards," the CPS can come in and take the kids away. This is just awful.

Every parent who gets a visit from these trackers must slam their door in their faces and tell them to get off  their property.

In some cases, he said, district workers have found that undocumented families left the country during the pandemic “because there was no opportunity to work. The kids left with the families. And they left by the thousands.”

More good news! Illegal aliens are leaving the country. LAUSD worked so hard to attract illegal aliens, because for that corrupt district, it was never about love of California, the county, or the country; it was all about raking in more taxpayer dollars based on the attendance disbursements. This is beyond disgusting.

In other instances, he added, families left California for other states such as Florida “because of political ideology and lower taxes. If they had the means, parents made decisions.”

There! Finally someone has the guts to put in print that California sucks, and the Democrats own these failures.

They went to another state where “their child could go to a school that was more aligned with their own beliefs in terms of medicine and in terms of schooling.”

And let's not forget the fact that Florida opened up their schools throughout the entire season. They refused to shut down the schools, and they banned school districts from forcing students to wear masks. Best of all, Florida weathered the COVID-19 spread with little trouble and enjoyed comparable, if not lower rates of infection compared to hard-core lockdown blue states.

Perhaps the biggest problem in figuring out the decline student by student is the lag in parents letting the district officially know they have decided to home-school their children by filing an affidavit with school officials.

“Parents are taking their time to file the documents,” he said.

The parents should be more churlish. They should not have to tell anyone anything. Of course, the problem for the last seventy-plus years is that school districts have their parens patriae role, i.e. they can assert a limited parental role when the child is outside of the classroom.

Statewide, during the height of the pandemic, a record 35,000 families had filed an affidavit with the state to open a private home school, but the numbers dropped the following year, according to California Department of Education records. That level is still much higher than the 15,000 affidavits filed in the years prior to the pandemic.

Let's hope for more private schools popping up all over the state of California. No one in their right mind should want their children to suffer in a decrepit, underperforming government school.

According to LAUSD’s enrollment analysis conducted as a part of Carvalho’s 100-day plan that launched when he became superintendent in February, LAUSD has seen the most significant declines by grade at the elementary school level and the most significant declines geographically among west and central local districts over the last six years.

The spread of enrollment decline is really good news, because it goes to show that this decline is not just in supposedly white neighborhoods. Central sections of Los Angeles Unified have predominantly black and Hispanic populations. Parents care about their kids, period. It has nothing to do with skin color or income level. Parents care about their kids, and no amount of cultural marxist wrangling can change that.

The district has also noticed that the largest drops have been among middle-class families, but that analysis does not take into account the students who left to attend the City of Angeles virtual school during the pandemic.

WOW! Notice the journalistic sleight of hand here. More like a "slight," indeed, insulting poor and working-class families, as if they do not care about their children at all. Most of the kids who were the most affected by the virtual learning were no doubt poor and working class families, since it was much harder for them to have one parent at home to supervise the children during their in-home Zoom lessons.

LAUSD doesn’t consider private schools a large factor in its enrollment decline because local private school enrollment has also been on the decline for the past few years, dropping more than 6% since 2017. Reflective of the national trend, homeschooling in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metropolitan statistical area doubled to 8% in 2020.

Homeschooling has become so much easier because of the wide availability of resources via the Internet, social media, and trading applications online. What was a difficult transition for many parents twenty or even ten years ago has become so much easier because of the wide array of curricular choices and programs online and via homeschool co-ops.

Final Reflection

There is so much winning following the steady implosion of government school enrollment around the country. For decades, the school districts have been failing students and insulting parents. Bureaucrats, administrators, and politicians have put the demands of special interests ahead of the needs of children. The COVID-19 pandemic pushed parents past the breaking point,  and they finally rose up demanding the best for their kids. They do the right thing to the degree that they can homeschool their children AND deprive the local school districts of any further funding.
