Here are some really bad bills in the state legislature:

SB 145  -- pedophile amnesty -- it would allow sex offenders to stay off a registry if their victims are less than ten years younger than the offender, i.e. the difference in ages between the two individuals is less than ten years.

AB 175 -- codified gender dysphoria for foster children -- would punish parents and others for not using "preferred pronoun" with a child. This is targeted child abuse, and that is wrong.

AB 1064 -- this bill is about killing off firearms dealers with onerous regulations -- they can't sell firearms from their homes, they have to pay huge fines if they miss correcting an issue brought up by the Department of Justice, and they would have to buy expensive liability insurance.

This is an example "nonsus decipio" legislation, where the intention is much more sinister than its professed goals.

When Your State Legislature is the Hate Group

The State of California has declared War on the Trump Administration. From the 35+ lawsuits filed by appointed Attorney General Xavier Becerra, to the repeated passage of legislation designed to neuter a free Internet, to the opposition to the national guard along our borders. A resident can infect someone with AIDS and get a slap on the wrist. If a restaurateur gives away too many straws, he could face one year in jail. If a nurse uses the wrong pronoun when addressing an elderly person, you could face jail time, too.

Since when did any state legislature become so hostile, so hateful toward liberty, common sense, and reality?

Currently, an egregious bill, AB 2943, is heading toward Governor Jerry Brown’s desk. Superficially, this bill would ban reparative therapy as an advertised service in the state of California. Eight years ago, the state legislature banned reparative therapy for minors. Now they want to treat adults like children and prevent them from seeking help for unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. Seeking help with sexual attraction and gender identity issues could look like it’s gone for good

For the record, reparative therapy is an effective treatment, one which relies on an atmosphere of trust, respect, and communication—not abuse, deprivation, or shock treatments, as distorted opposing arguments and fraudulent opponents would have the public believe. These testimonies from ex-gays and former transgenders are among many accounts affirming that people do change and restore their lives to healthy sexual preferences and identities.

With the continued push for AB 2943, however, the California State Legislature has maintained its morally decrepit war on the laws of nature and Nature’s God. Regardless of one’s libertarian or socially liberal leanings within otherwise conservative circles, families establish stable communities, especially Western Civilization, the best set of values out there to ensure liberty for all and equal opportunities for all, no matter what challenges, outcomes, or starting position in which a person finds himself. Families matter, faith matters, and so does freedom, which makes the other two possible.

If AB 2943 passes, all of that won’t matter—at least in the state of California, but no one should naively believe that the moral rot in California will stay there. MassResistance, the international pro-family group which makes a difference, has been fighting this destructive LGBT hate machine for years. For the last two months, we have directed more targeted, and vocal efforts against AB 2943, to protect therapy equality, freedom of speech, and respect for natural marriage and gender.

Our national team is battled-tested. Two years ago, we jumped into the fight against the California LGBT Hate Machine fray when law(less)makers wanted to essentially shut down every Christian college in the state of California with SB 1146. We contacted churches, Republican clubs, and non-profit organization invested in protecting the well-being of a truly liberal education, especially on Christian colleges. Legislators up and down the state heard from us. The legislation faced immense backlash, and the author withdrew its worst portions.

Today, MassResistance has followed the same process and connected with more activists to stop AB 2943. Our team in Massachusetts stopped the Bay State from banning reparative therapy for minors last month. Could we take on this menacing agenda in California, too? After visiting and calling a number of district offices, I learned that groups all over the state had been calling, sending emails, writing letters, and paying visits to the district and capitol offices of different representatives.

Then came the fateful day on the floor of the state senate. MassResistance activists had hoped that we could delay this legislation until August 31^st, thus ensuring that it would not meet the constitutional deadline for passage to the Governor. On August 16^th, State Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) announced an amendment which would permit the sale of goods but not services related to reparative therapy. Any legislation which imperils the right of individuals to seek help, aid, or counsel from a therapist remains unconstitutional. Pro-family activists have learned the hard way that amending a bad bill is not enough. Bad bills should fail and be withdrawn completely.

To listen to State Senator Scott Weiner of San Francisco defend AB 2943, an unjust intrusion into the rights of individuals, to justify trampling on the rights of hurting people to seek qualified help, was just unbelievable. A diligent, indifferent minority agenda has taken over California’s levers of power, and the rest of California is expected to tolerate it?! The bill passed on a party-line vote.

Doesn’t this fit the definition of ‘hate group’? The state legislature is targeting Christians, conservatives of all colors and backgrounds, even immigrants by granting favors and perks to illegal aliens. This is targeted bigotry. For decades, MassResistance has been unjustly smeared as a hate group because we tell the truth about homosexuality, transgenderism, and the unprecedented, inevitable assaults. My friends and I have been unfairly targeted by the Southern Poverty Law Center, itself a hate group recently forced to pay a huge indemnity for smearing a reformist Muslim as an “Anti-Muslim Extremist.”

Let’s call out the truth as we see it. Any state legislature which declares war on the natural rights of its citizens, which disregards the oath of office to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, has become the hate group. More Californians need to shout “Enough!”, but still so many remain uninformed.

Yet this unconscionable overreach may give way to a silver lining. Should California’s unrequited Anti-Trumpism push Governor Brown to sign this travesty into law, multiple lawsuits will emerge. This legal challenge will go all the way to the Supreme Court, and based on the concurring opinions in NIFLA vs. Becerra, a (growing) majority of conservative justices will strike down this law and all reparative therapy bans across the country.

California Democrats may win a battle, but they will lose the war. Like the Southern Poverty Law Center and other anti-conservative smear machines, the California State Legislature’s hatred of targeted groups will come to an end.

Open Letter to California's Pastors from Pastor Dan Carroll: Stop #AB2943

Pastor Dan Carroll of Water of Life Community Church in Fontana stood strong and told his congregation that it's time for the church to take principled, effective stances against lawlessness and immorality in the state of California.

The Body of Christ is a sleeping giant politically, and they need to muster the forces and Possess their Possessions as granted to them through Christ Jesus.

Jesus didn't die on the Cross for you and me to sit in the back of the bus.

The Lamb of God did not die on the Cross so that we would be led as dumb sheep to the slaughter.

Through Jesus' death and resurrection, we are more than conquerors, or quite literally "Hyper-Victors" (Romans 8:37).

When will the Body of Christ in the state of California start acting like the blessed victors which Christ Jesus made us to be?

This pastor has thrown down the gauntlet, so to speak, and has announced to his congregation and to the church communities at large that it is time to rise up!

Specifically, the churches of the state of California need to rise up against #AB2943, which would ban Biblical truth, would silence biological and historical verities, and would stop reparative therapy,; which has saved countless lives.

To California Christian Leaders,

My name is Dan Carroll and I am the Senior Pastor of Water of Life Community Church in Fontana, California. Water of Life is an outreach-oriented church with a focus on overseas and urban ministries.

My wife Gale and I planted Water of Life 28 years ago with 27 people. Today we have a weekly
attendance of 7,000 to 8,000.

Like many of you, I do not have a history of political involvement. My passion is ministry, not politics. But year after year, I have watched the state legislature pass bill after bill that negatively impacted our community and our youth. When AB 2943 was introduced, I knew I could no longer passively remain on the sidelines.

Water of Life seeks to bring hope, healing and transformation to individuals through the power of the Gospel, including those who struggle with same sex attraction and gender confusion. Through AB 2943, Legislators are seeking to declare all fee-based resources offered to these individuals as consumer fraud. This means our counseling centers can no longer minister to these individuals and employees in our bookstores could face liability for guiding a person to books or other resources that address same sex attraction from a Biblical perspective. This is a direct threat to the religious freedom of Christian counselors, ministries, and churches. And it is also a direct threat to the freedom of individuals facing unwanted attractions or identity confusion to find help from a licensed counselor or support group. I could not sit silently by and watch this bill pass.

So when AB 2943 began to move through our legislature, I asked our church to contact their state legislators to ask them to oppose this bill. This was the first time in 28 years I had ever spoken publicly about politics. Surprisingly, soon after making my appeal, I received a call from our local Assemblywoman Eloise Reyes asking me to meet with her to discuss AB 2943. I later found out she called because she received 3,000 phone calls and emails from Water of Life people opposing this bill.

After an hour plus conversation in Assemblywoman Reyes’ office, I was invited by her to go to
Sacramento to meet with Assemblyman Evan Low, the author of AB 2943, to discuss our strong
concerns with the bill.

Frankly, I was shocked at both Assembly members' willingness to thoughtfully sit and discuss this bill. Low even agreed to delay the bill, until there were further discussions with the opposition. The whole experience has been way out of my comfort zone, but it has shown me that if we get involved, and walk this out thoughtfully and kindly, we can make a huge difference in our state and help stop legislation that undermines our ability to share the Gospel.

Why am I writing you this letter? Legislators are returning to the Capitol from summer recess on August 6 to vote on this bill. Obviously, I believe I have made a mistake by not speaking up sooner. My church,like yours, has a voice in our community and your state representatives need to hear from you and your congregation. The time to sit by and hope someone else is going to speak up is over. I am writing this letter to encourage you to get involved, while we still have a voice in the State of California.

Groper-Negra Resigns Immediately (Who's Next? What's Going On in Sac-Town?)

Raul Groper-Negra resigned effective today, according to numerous reports, including his own Facebook page.

This was no surprise to me. He was not going to get away with staying in office for a year as more women came forward with allegations against him for sexual assault and battery. As a staffer, he had assaulted a women, received a reprimand for his perverse behavior, and then went along climbing the political Democratic foodchain. He was supposed to be the next Speaker of the Assembly after Tony Atkins, but a little-known challenger named Patty Lopez knocked him out office in Election 2014. It was another stunning upset in Los Angeles County politics. A young outsider, not connected to any corrupt political machine, knocked out the would-be Speaker of the Assembly.

Sometimes, I wonder if Speaker Anthony Rendon and his cronies conspired to ensure that he would get knocked out, so that he would be the next in line as Speaker of the Assembly. At any rate, Bocanegra was out for one term, then roared back in 2016 to retake the Tujunga-San Fernando Valley region.

Ugh. The trash never tsops getting recycled in Sacramento.

Then the #MeToo exposés roiled Sacramento, and Bocanegra was exposed as a serial philanderer and womanizer. This is beyond disgusting. Why are we the voters, the wakeful and eventful of California learning about this now? What took so long? The Assembly Ethics Committee, chaired by Lyin' Ted Lieu at the time of Groper-Negra's indiscretions, sent him a reprimand and told him to stay away from other women.

That perverse behavior occurred a decade ago, when Bocanegra was the chief of staff for Felipe Fuentes. That same Fuentes went onto become a LA City Councilman, who would then resign early to become a lobbyist, most likely because of sexual misconduct of his own. Yes, he's a lobbyist now.

I want to add before I go into further analysis that I called this! I knew that Boca-Raton (RAT!) would have to resign following further pressure and ongoing reports, especially 8 more women coming forward to call him out for sexual perversion.

Imagine that?! The local press is actually doing it's job to some extent. The Los Angeles Times refused to let this story go, and she refused to walk away from allowing one more Democratic lawmaker get away with abusing staffers. This indiscriminate hatred of women and the natural dignity of men and women must cease, especially among our representatives.

Now, the next question arises: who's next on the #MeToo chopping block?

That's pretty easy? Tony Mendoza. The California State Senate leadership has already stripped him of his committee assignments. President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon has moved out of the home which the two state senators were sharing. De Leon is going to have his own serious problems next, of course,  as he struggles to raise major money to take on Dianne Feinstein.

Mendoza is facing more pressure to quit, since more women have come forward about his sexual improprieties, and staffers were fired from his office because they reported his inappropriate behavior. I can't see this guy surviving much longer, either. He is up for re-election, and no doubt the newly minted CA Democratic Party Chairman Eric Bauman is going to tell Mendoza to think seriously about whether he wants to continue serving in the legislature ... or not.

Mendoza is going to be gone in the next month. Merry Christmas, Californians!

The next question, which ties into something I had written previously: What's going on here? Why are we learning about this crime and corruption among these lawmakers so late in the game? Bocanegra did run for office in 2012, and he got elected, did he not? Where were the political opponents or the opposition researchers to expose this guy?

The Ethics committee did slam him for his abusive behavior. Staffers would tell the men and women working in his office to stay away from him, because Boca-Nono couldn't keep his hands to himself. "He needs to learn to not touch other people," one friend remarked. That's not acceptable!

Ten years later, and only now does Groper-Negra step down. Why?

Because there is an bitter power struggle upending the California Democratic Party, and the more Establishment, Bay Area wing of the party is beating back the Progressive, La Raza, Southern California wing of the party, simple as that. The Democratic Establishment has been leaking all this information out to the public, dragging down the more progressive wing. This is a power play, pure and simple.

The Democratic Establishment has lined up behind Gavin Newsom for Governor and Dianne Feinstein for US Senate. They want the money, the big contracts, the crony capitalism that fuels political cronies like Eric Bauman and Co. getting rich off of everyone else. They are not the idealistic leftists that the restless Bernie-crat contingent wants. But the Establishment is not going to let these pesky Latinos get in their way, right?

Bocanegra is gone, Mendoza is next, and some sources indicate that State Senator Ed Hernandez will be on the way out, too. Who's angling for power in the state legislature? More of the white establishment, with Bob Hertzberg angling to replace De Leon. Who wants Rendon's seat, I wonder?

Ian Calderon, perhaps?

Back to the turmoil following the roll-out of the salacious crimes and corruption out of Sacramento ...

These allegations of sexual assault and abuse are tying the rope tighter around Kevin De Leon and hurting his bid for US Senate against Dianne Feinstein. They will certainly knock into former LA City Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's political ambitions, too, especially since the former Mayor wants to list himself as a working man's alternative to the elite, effete Gavin Newsom.

One can only hope that the two wings of the Democratic Party tear each other apart widely enough that a Republican can sneak into the Top Two general election in 2018. At any rate, the voters and activists in the state should double-down on the #MeToo exposures and demand a full clean out of the bacchanalian stable.

For now, let's celebrate that Groper-Negra is gone, that Mendoza will be on the way out, too, and the Democratic caucuses in at least one chamber will lose their pure supermajority going into Election 2018.

This is a sad day in California.

The state legislature has lost whatever remaining moral authority which it had ever claimed.

The State Assembly, at the last hour, declared their support for turning California into an outlaw state, one which would not cooperate with ICE.

Interestingly enough, Al Muratsuchi abstained on the vote, again.

Rocky Chavez did, too. Unbelievable.

Two Democrats actually voted No in the State Assembly: Jim Frazier and Adam Gray.

Sadly, the one Democrat who had pledged to vote NO--Quirk-Silva--ended up changing her vote to "Yes" because of the cosmetic changes made to the bill following Brown's threat to veto the original proposed bill.

Here's where we stand in California. The legislature has become completely lawless, convinced that they have every right to invest all energies in defying President Trump.

This is just terrible. Let's hope that someone files a lawsuit immediately. I also look forward to the citizenry rising up and placing an initiative on the ballot to stop this perverse policy if Governor Brown signs this piece of legislation into law.

UPDATE:

As everyone can see in the above final vote tally, the State Senate cast their final votes on key legislation on September 16. The legislative session official ends on September 15.

Now, the two bodies can suspend the rules to allow for ongoing votes.

We Need More Ross Johnsons, Not Just Glowing Obituaries

So,  I am reading about this conservative titan from Sacramento.

His name was Ross Johnson, and he served in the state legislature in the late 1970's until 2010.

He was part of the class that helped bring in Prop 13.

Here are some comments I found online about this state senator, who passed away earlier this week:

Though derided by liberals as “cavemen,” the Prop. 13 class as a group was in fact much better educated and versed in classical governing theory than most Democrats. They could talk about Jefferson, Friedman and Cicero, and know that they weren’t referring to Sherman Hemsley (look him up!), a local Deli owner and a town in Illinois.

In a class full of exceptionally bright and thoughtful people, Ross stood out as a star. He was better than anyone I’ve ever met at analyzing a problem or situation and coming up – usually on the spot – with the best way to deal with it. His political instincts are as good as anyone I’ve ever worked with. In the interests of modesty and avoiding a laundry list, let’s just say that covers a lot of ground.

Ross was a courageous man who followed his political gut rather than going with the consultants' head.

He fought for what was right, and helped property owners stay in their homes.

Johnson served 26 years in the Legislature representing portions of Orange County. He was first elected to the Assembly in 1978, along with a group of Republicans who became known as “Prop. 13 babies” because of their support that June for the historic property-tax-cutting initiative, Proposition 13. Though the GOP never held majority control in the house in which Johnson served, he was caucus leader to both the Assembly and Senate Republicans during his stints there.

The leadership job sometimes launched him into the role of mediator between fellow conservatives and emerging moderates in the party. It gave him great authority over many legislative matters, particularly the state budget, which then required Republican support to pass each year.

Compromising was worthwhile in those days, I suppose ... or was it?

Is that why the Republican Party of California faces the harsh straits now?

Then I found this part:

Though it would be a decade before he actually became leader of the Assembly Republicans, Ross was always one of the prime movers for the innovative policy ideas, political stratagems and anti-Democrat guerrilla warfare that helped the GOP wield influence far beyond anything their numerical strength would justify. His core principals were sacrosanct and unchanging, and his refusal to support Pete Wilson’s huge tax increase in 1991 cost Ross his post as Assembly GOP leader.

Now that's what I am talking about!

We need more Ross Johnsons in the state legislature, not just glowing obituaries about former lawmakers.

Today, California Republicans are at their lowest ebb yet, with no constitutional offices and superminority status in the state legislature. We need more people with incredible wit and wisdom, who are not afraid to fight back and even take a stance against fellow party members to ensure that the state of California protects the rights of its citizens as opposed to doing the bidding of the Deep State of Sacramento.

WSJ Features Left-Right Victory, Led by Assemblyman David Hadley (R-Torrance)

The Wall Street Journal featured California Republican Assemblyman David Hadley (R-Torrance).

No one can make this stuff up.

For a Republican in California, who inhabits the minority party barely bouncing back from a record number of failures at the state and local level, to get featured in an internationally respected newspaper like The Wall Street Journal is a true accomplishment!

Left-Right Win in California

A rare coalition comes together to limit civil forfeiture.

Americans on the right and left don’t agree on much these days, but they can unite in reining in government abuse of civil forfeiture. An example is California’s new law that closes a loophole that allowed police to seize property without adequate due process.

Gov. Jerry Brown last week signed a bill to require a criminal conviction before forfeiture proceeds can be sent to state law enforcement. Since 1994, California law has required a criminal conviction for forfeitures under $25,000. That’s better than many other states, but local police began to use federal law as a way to dodge the state restrictions. California police would file state charges against a target, but then outsource the forfeiture to the federal government.

This ducked the state criminal conviction requirement and increased the cash haul from forfeiture. The feds have a process known as “equitable sharing” that divides forfeiture proceeds with local police. California cops were getting about 80% of federal forfeiture proceeds, compared with 66.25% if they kept the actions local.

Can you imagine the forum shopping that has been sweeping throughout the United States, specifically in California?

This is unconscionably. The Fourth Amendment has to mean something!

According to the Institute for Justice, whose reports on “policing for profit” galvanized political reaction against forfeiture abuse, from 2000 to 2013 the Justice Department kicked back some $696 million in forfeiture money to state and local law enforcement. The new California law closes the federal loophole and will protect those who can’t afford to fight unjust forfeiture. The new law also raises the threshold for forfeiture to $40,000 from $25,000. According to the Drug Policy Alliance, 94% of California forfeitures in 1992 were $5,000 or less, and it had barely increased in real dollars by 2013.

I had not learned about the closure of the federal loophole before. So glad that that has been removed.

The reform was the product of a rare left-right coalition led by Democratic state senator Holly Mitchell and Republican assembly member David Hadley. Prosecutors have used civil forfeiture to prop up state and municipal budgets, but it has become a racket that exploits those least able to defend themselves. More states should follow California’s lead.

Let's clarify a few things, though.

First of all, there was no way that "Black Lives Matter" Holly Mitchell was going to get that bill passed through the state assembly. Her hard-edged opposition to police in particular and authority in general left a bad taste in many assemblymembers' mouths.

In 2015, Mitchell tried to pass a similar bill, and it died. Only four Republicans voted for it, including Hadley.

The Republican assemblyman took a stronger lead to work with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, and the second time they managed to pass it with overwhelming support.

Mitchell could not cobble together the necessary compromise.

Hadley did!

The economic and culture wars abound in the state of California.

State Senator Ricardo Lara wants to attack the First Amendment on all five of its points.

Mark Leno and company are waging war on businesses, forcing the minimum wage up to $15 an hour by 2022, and with that destructive maneuver, they are forcing out young people, particularly minorities, from the precarious job market.

How about Gun-Apocalypse, which just criminalized the legal purchase and acquisition of a firearm in greater measure than before? Thanks Governor Moonbeam.

On one issue, however, voters from the left or the right have growing consensus: the destructive impact of Big Labor in the Golden State.

Labor unions are actively buying up influence among Democrats (mostly) and Republicans (to a much smaller extent).

Unions loves unions, they do not care about their workers, and they are hurting students, parents, consumers, businesses, and everyone else in this state who contributes rather than confiscates wealth, resources, and opportunity.

Whatever we may think of liberal Republicans, many of them are standing up to the arrogant, overbearing syndicates which are pushing out the middle and working classes. A new aristocracy of public employees has taken hold in California. Elected officials and commissioners are raking in six figure salaries--in retirement--and we the people are expected to pay for this elitist redistribution of wealth.

Historically, this economic tyranny is nothing new. The ignoble nobility of the French aristocracy lived off lavish pensions, paid off by struggling laborers and artisans for decades. Then marched in the French Revolution.

Let's not forget the numerous times that the teachers' unions have run to the rescue of the worst, most reprobate teachers, even those who had sexually assaulted students. School districts could not fire them because of the ironclad tenure laws, negotiated in greater measure by teachers unions.

Even private sector unions are facing greater privation. Why? Because their anti-free market policies are hurting the very businesses they rely on for employment.

More union members, forced to join and forced to pay, are tired of watching the labor leaders make six figure salaries, but their opportunities for better employment whither away. Hours get cut, and the worst employees never get disciplined or fired.

Let's not forget the disdainful, destructive behavior of the ILWU. They shut down the ports time and again, like a group of selfish, petulant middle schoolers who can't stand not getting their way. Why does any one group retain the power to disrupt commerce at the expense of everyone else?

These labor unions need a punch in the nose, not another thousand dollars, or easy politicians who will bend and weave for their every whim.

So, for Election 2016, the candidates whom California voters should reject are those paid for, bought and sold by major labor unions, particularly the public sector lobbies.

And who fits that destructive description in the South Bay contest for the 66th Assembly District?

Critics properly countered that Muratsuchi was a union puppet, and they bought him a seat in 2012 so that he could warm it up and keep their big money rolling in.
