The True Nature of the Southern Poverty Law Center

Like many pro-family organizations in the United States, MassResistance celebrates the DOJ’s filing charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center. This hate group masquerading as a civil rights organization has repeatedly targeted us, and it’s good to see them finally facing the legal music.

First, a little background ….

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has long posed as America's premier watchdog against "hate." Founded in 1971 in Montgomery, Alabama, it built a massive endowment—topping hundreds of millions—by mailing dire warnings about rising extremism to fearful donors. Yet beneath the polished facade of civil rights heroism always lay a darker agenda: a partisan smear machine designed to delegitimize, defame, and ultimately destroy conservatives who dare defend traditional values, border security, religious liberty, and free speech.

While most pro-family groups cowered or avoided talking about the SPLC, MassResistance has consistently exposed their tactics. With more exposure in a federal criminal case, the institution is facing well-deserved financial and legal freefall. The organization's recent federal indictment for wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering—alleging it secretly funneled over $3 million in donor funds to informants tied to extremist groups like the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Nations—only confirms what MassResistance has warned about for years: the SPLC was never fighting hate; it was manufacturing it to justify its existence.

For yForFor years, MassResistance has endured defamation from this hate group in Alabama. They falsely maligned our President, Brian Camenker, for claiming that the Nazis never targeted homosexuals. They have defamed our Field Director, Arthur Schaper, as an anti-immigrant activist and conflated him with white nationalists. As a result of this smear campaign, local and national newspapers would reference the Southern Poverty Law Center when describing our efforts and activism. They insisted on hiding behind that institution to smear us as a “hate group.” Local parents and activist organizations often stayed away from us because of this unjustified smear. Other pro-family groups also resisted our confrontational approach to activism because they feared the SPLC’s “hate group” label.

There have been fatal consequences, of course—as intended, frankly. In 2012, Floyd Lee Corkins walked into FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C., armed with a gun and a list of targets drawn from the SPLC's hate map (one of the organization’s most notorious gimmicks to smear and harm conservatives). He shot and wounded a security guard before being stopped. Corkins explicitly cited the SPLC's labeling of FRC as motivation. The SPLC condemned the act in vague terms but doubled down on its defamatory actions, refusing to remove FRC from its “Hate Map” and insisting its criticism was "fact-based." And that’s what the SPLC is really invested it: they want to foment violence against conservatives. Mark Potok, one of their “researchers,” readily admitted this motive in a 2007 conference: “Our goal is to destroy conservatives.”

Some critics of this hate group have argued that the organization started with the right motives, but then went to the dark side, so to speak. The truth is much darker. From its inception, the SPLC sued many groups—including the defunct KKK—for so-called civil rights violations just for the money. It was never about fighting injustice. Morris Dees, one of the co-founders of this hate group, had represented the KKK before turning to civil rights litigation. While he would claim that he had had a moral epiphany, the truth is that he was always a greedy ambulance chaser looking for a more lucrative legal enterprise, nothing more.

Their selective outrage clearly exposed this moral rot. The organization downplayed black separatist antisemitism or Islamist extremism while inflating "anti-LGBTQ+" or "anti-immigrant" threats from groups advocating basic biblical views on sexuality or immigration policy. Their tactics weren't neutral monitoring; they were ideological warfare. The SPLC partnered with Big Tech, corporate media, and the federal government to blacklist conservatives, influencing everything from payment processors to school curricula.

To their credit, conservative outlets, independent journalists, and organizations like the Heritage Foundation have documented how the SPLC inflated "hate group" counts by counting single-person websites or peaceful advocacy outfits multiple times while ignoring left-wing violence. Lawsuits mounted. The Center for Immigration Studies sued for defamation after being labeled a hate group; courts allowed discovery, revealing internal doubts at the SPLC about its own standards. Other targets pushed back in the court of public opinion, refusing to cower.

But MassResistance directly confronted SPLC influence in schools, libraries, and legislatures. We fought back against their defamation. We confronted reporters and newspapers that listed that hate group as a legitimate source. We even forced local newspapers to retract their libelous claims and stop referencing the Southern Poverty Law Center altogether.

We certainly appreciated the exposure of the organization's internal scandals, too: sexual harassment allegations against founder Morris Dees (leading to his 2019 ouster), racial discrimination lawsuits from minority employees, and bloated overhead that funneled donor dollars into luxury while "fighting poverty." These revelations eroded trust. Donors, including some on the left, began questioning the hype.

Post-2020, as riots exposed left-wing extremism, the SPLC's credibility crumbled further. Conservative lawmakers, including House Judiciary Committee members, grilled the group's influence on federal agencies. Limited government activists even reached out to MassResistance, asking us to consider testifying before House committees to expose the SPLC.

Then more good news followed, which MassResistance has continued to celebrate. In 2024-2025, internal mutiny erupted: mass layoffs of 25% of staff, a no-confidence vote against CEO Margaret Huang backed by 92% of remaining employees, and her eventual resignation. Financial woes mounted amid donor fatigue and bad publicity. The SPLC's own reports showed fluctuating "hate group" numbers that suspiciously spiked with Republican administrations—classic fundraising fuel.

With the second Trump administration, the SPLC has faced more troubles. FBI Director Kash Patel severed all ties. House Republicans held hearings exposing coordination with prior administrations to target Christians and conservatives. Then, on April 21, 2026, a federal grand jury in Alabama indicted the SPLC on 11 counts, including wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors allege the group secretly paid over $3 million (2014-2023) to informants embedded in or affiliated with violent extremist circles—the very groups it claimed to dismantle—while misleading donors about its work.

This indictment validates a decade of MassResistance’s warnings. The SPLC didn't just target conservatives with rhetorical violence; its methods subsidized the extremism it profited from decrying. Real hate exists—Klansmen, neo-Nazis, jihadists—but the SPLC blurred lines to smear pro-family Christians, border enforcers, and constitutionalists as equivalent threats. MassResistance succeeded by refusing silence.

Yet the fight continues. The SPLC vows to "defend" itself, and leftist allies decry "political targeting." True resistance demands full accountability—no more partnerships with smeared organizations, no more taxpayer-adjacent influence, and relentless sunlight on its remaining assets. Conservatives must reject the hate label entirely, building parallel institutions immune to smears.

For the last ten years, MassResistance fought the SPLC not with truth, persistence, and principle. We exposed the SPLC as a bully profiting from division, not a beacon against it. MassResistance proved that determined patriots can topple even the mightiest smear factories. The SPLC's decline offers hope: when citizens reject fear and demand honesty, the house of cards collapses. America rejects manufactured hate. We defend ordered liberty instead.

CA MassResistance Confronts "Norwalk Patriot" Hack Reporter Who Labeled Them a "Hate Group"

This is how you do it! For too long, conservatives, pro-family activists, and common-sense citizens in general have allowed local and large media, whether corporate or independent, to get away with shaming and defaming mothers and fathers who want to protect their children from perversion, corruption, and outright danger.

This is the latest effort by government regimes, whether at the local, state, or federal level to silence dissent. One of their best tactics is to label citizens in action "hate groups," and corrupt newspapers like The Norwalk Patriot rely on real hate groups like "The Southern Poverty Law Center" to accomplish these heinous actions. In a July, 2023 edition of their discredited newspaper, the Norwalk Patriot labeled CA MassResistance parents a "hate group."

Well, at the August 14, 2023 Norwalk-La Mirada School Board meeting, the parents fought back!

Check out how they confronted the hateful reporter Vincent Medina, who was so fearful and cowardly, that he tried to hide behind a police officer the entire time. He was so shaken by the outraged parents confronting him for this hate, that he ran away after five minutes. We need more parents, more citizens in general to rise up against corporate media's bias and bigotry!

Spider Karen Kelly Stuart "Doxxes" Herself, Plays Victim (Admits She's a Total Loser)

Kelly Stuart wanted to "dox" herself ...
Really ...

Spider Karen Kelly Stuart of El Segundo, CA is a soy-girl Antifa Karen.

She lives in her mother's basement.

She celebrates the systemic abuse of children.

She thinks that black people are welfare queens.

She doxxes innocent people to get them fired, cancelled, harassed, and sanctioned.

And on top of all that, she is a self-loathing groomer loser.

Did you also know that she likes to dox herself?

How stupid can one be?

Check out the email that she sent to me under an alias two years ago:

She wrote to me under the false pretense of "Karen McBride." At least she recognizes that she is a Karen.

Spider Karen loves to play victim, even though she's the one victimizing others. The truth is that she is a total loser, and to our benefit, she shares with the general public that she is a loser!

Here's the whole email exchange, by the way:

Karen McBride Tue 10/12/2021, 11:25 AM

Dear Arthur,

Is there a way you could let me know where kelly stuart lives? Since we both live in El Segundo I am very curious. Do you think it would be a good idea if I and a few friends went to her house to talk to her about her activities? I don’t want this in our town. Bless you for all the work you do. I watch the video you posted, it’s horrific. I can’t believe that people like this are running around harassing people and making their lives difficult. You certainly don’t deserve that.

Sincerely,

Karen

And I responded in full as follows: Karen:

Her address is ------------------------

Just to let you know, this Kelly Stuart person is clearly a LOSER. She deserves to be shamed, and she deserves to be exposed. Let's try to minize our paper trail, if you know what I mean. We don't want her to find out how you got the information about where she lives, for example. I absolutely agree that you should have people protest outside of her house, or if you feel safe enough, go to her door directly and knock. THANK YOU so much for your help!

Arthur Schaper, Organization Director
Website: MassResistance.org
Email: arthur@massresistance.org
Workcell: (781) 474-3005
Main Office: (781) 890-6001

She asked me for her home address, and then she cries about being doxxed. If anyone wanted to dox her, they need to make her home address public. For some reason, she insists on trying to do that, I guess.

But keep in mind that on her Twitter thread, she announces to everyone that she is a LOSER!

I am really glad that Antifa failures like Kelly Stuart inform everyone that she is a loser. She spreads the messages that I write very well, and more people will learn what a loser she is.

But more importantly, she is a fascist, a bigot, anti-black, and she supports the mutilation of children. Such bigotry, such evil has no place in society, and she is a blight on the city of El Segundo.

What kind of sick person is this, that would want to doxx herself? And since when does an email amount to doxxing, anyway?

Reminder: Jen "Karen" Graham Promotes Violent Hate Group

Jen "Karen" Graham of Torrance
promotes violent hate group
Southern Poverty Law Center

In a previous post, I shared with you the defamatory hate written by "Torrance Community Group" Admin Jen "Karen" Graham.

Here's the post that she had shared about me. She has a special level of Schaper Derangement Syndrome thate I cannot begin to understand.

It's really sad. I don't understand why some people in the city of Torrance insist on allowing me to live in their heads rent free. Don't they have lives of their own? There is something of a mental illness afflicting these poor souls, and I can only hope that they get some help.

At any rate ...

In one of her first comments, she defames me as a "national agitator for a national hate group."

I worked for an international (not national) pro-family organization called MassResistance. You can learn more about them here.

Now, why does she defame MassResistance as a hate group? She relies on the slander of a real hate group: The Southern Poverty Law Center:

The Southern Poverty Law Center is not just any ordinary hate group, however. They are a violent hate group which instigates terrorist threats and attacks against anyone whom they disagree with.

So, because Jen Graham slanders MassResistance by referencing the SPLC, one must accept that Graham promotes a violent hate group herself.

The Family Research Council can attest to this. They were attacked by a deranged gunman who wanted to kill as many people as possible in the building. Why? Because the FRC was unjustly placed on the SPLC's "Hate Map."

The First Works Baptist Church in (majority Hispanic and Asian) El Monte can testify to this hate, as well. They were firebombed by a deranged domestic terrorst because ... (wait for it) the SPLC defames them as a hate group. A church being labeled a hate group and getting firebombed ... this reminds me of the same line of domestic terror waged by other Democrats in the South who wore white hoods and terrorized minority communities, aka the KKK.

But back to the Hate Group from Alabama.

The Southern Poverty Law Center vilifies men, women, immigrants, Jews, Christians, and Muslims who do not agree with their radical, aggressive, progressive agenda. They even create a so-called "Hate Map" to set up these innocent groups to be targeted!

Let's state the facts plainly: Jen Graham of Torrance promotes and supports a violent hate group.

And if you need any further evidence of this long litany of hate regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center, just click here.

Everything You Need to Know about Alabama Hate Group "The Southern Poverty Law Center" (But Were Afraid to Ask)

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is an illicit, discredited hate group.

They have a long history of defaming and libeling women, minorities, and people of faith.

Anyone who cites the Southern Poverty Law Center as a serious source for anything is ... well ... a hater, a bigot, a pervert, and probably a big-time groomer.

Here's all you need to know about the Alabama Hate Group otherwise known as "The Southern Poverty Law Center."

1.      The agency's co-founder, Morris Dees, was fired for fostering a work culture of sexism and racism, as well as engaging sexual misconduct. Not exactly tolerant or loving, right? Minority employees never received promotions—ever.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/14/us/morris-dees-southern-poverty-law-center-fired.html

https://www.npr.org/2019/04/17/713887174/after-allegations-of-toxic-culture-southern-poverty-law-center-tries-to-move-for

2.      The President of the SPLC, Richard Cohen, was forced to resign for enabling Mr. Dees' misdeeds. So did the SPLC legal director Rhonda Brownstein. Ironically, they fostered and permitted the very culture of hate they claimed to combat. Their organization routinely refused to hire anyone aside from white males and females.

https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/2019/03/22/southern-poverty-law-center-legal-director-rhonda-brownstein-resigns/3245281002/

3.      Bob Moser (liberal and openly gay), a former employee of the SPLC, informed the public in an exposé for The New Yorker that the whole SPLC is just a smear-machine fundraising mill, nothing more. The agency was never intended to actually stop extremism and hate, but just raise money off of gullible corporate donors who wanted to feel that they were helping the fight.

Moser states:

“All the time, dark shadows hung over everything: the racial and gender disparities, the whispers about sexual harassment, the abuses that stemmed from the top-down management, and the guilt you couldn’t help feeling about the legions of donors who believed that their money was being used, faithfully and well …. We were part of the con, and we knew it.”

4.      The SPLC was forced to pay a $3.3 million settlement to Maajid Nawaz for libeling (not just labeling) him and his organization the Quilliam foundation as an "anti-Muslim extremist" simply because as a Muslim reformer he opposes Sharia Law and supports women’s rights. Former President Richard Cohen had to make an official apology, too.

Here’s their apology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMAStj8Jtks

Maajid Nawaz said that he was “targeted” by the SPLC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZYa8J_NU8Y

5.      SPLC has smeared MassResistance as a "hate group." It's a laughable charge.

a.       Our organization spans chapters throughout the world, including Nigeria, Chile, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, as well as the United Kingdom. We have men and women of all ages and ethnic backgrounds who have sought MassResistance to help them combat the LGBT agenda and its lies. How is that hate?

b.      For the record, mothers and fathers who care about their children do not constitute any kind of "hate group". The truth is, it is hateful to call loving parents "haters" for protecting their children from sexual deviance and perversion.

c.       Homosexuals have contacted our activists and our main office to voice SUPPORT for our activism. A number of them want to leave the LGBT culture, but fear the repercussions of breaking away.

6.      The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed the following groups as so-called hate groups. The collection of groups which they have smeared with this canard is so laughable, that any pro-family/conservative activist group that is NOT on their list should question their effectiveness!

a.       The Alliance Defending Freedom

b.      The Family Research Council

c.       The American Family Association

d.      The American Freedom Alliance

e.       Family Watch International

f.        World Congress of Families

g.      The Remembrance Project – This group fights illegal immigration, and represents the concerns of families whose loved ones have been killed by illegal aliens. This is hate?!

h.      Liberty Counsel

i.        National Coalition for Issue Reform – This is the most nonsensical I have seen yet.

j.        The American College of Pediatricians – Yes, the SPLC labels caregiver doctors for children as a “hate group” – are you laughing yet?!

k.      The Pacific Justice Center – This group based in California fights for religious liberties and parental rights. That’s hate?

l.        The Jewish Defense League – I kid you not. They consider Jews who defend Israel a “hate group” – This is beyond ridiculous.

m.    Christians and Jews United for Israel – Once again, the SPLC attacks Jews as a hate group. They sound more like Nazis or the KKK.

n.      The Center for Immigration Studies – This group is headed by an Armenian-American, by the way. This group is one of six suing the SPLC for libel.

o.      Federation for American Immigration Reform – This group has supporters of all backgrounds, including Black and Jewish Americans.

7.      The Southern Poverty Law Center tried to shut down charter schools which served predominantly poor, black communities in Mississippi. It’s documented below:

https://www.theepochtimes.com/southern-poverty-law-center-loses-in-court-fails-to-defund-charter-schools_3074911.html

8.      The Washington Post printed an editorial slamming the SPLC as having lost all integrity:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-southern-poverty-law-center-has-lost-all-credibility/2018/06/21/22ab7d60-756d-11e8-9780-b1dd6a09b549_story.html

When even the Washington Post has given up on you, you are a lost cause!

9.      Regarding the charge of Homophobia: "Homophobia" suggests a fear of homosexuals. On the contrary, MassResistance and its members have never shied away from confronting individuals on the dangers of LGBT behaviors. In fact, our main office has received commendations from currently practicing LGBT individuals to support our efforts to confront this agenda! It is not a mental disorder to oppose LGBT Behaviors, since they are fraught with disease, dysfunction, and death.

10.  Current Affairs, a Liberal Magazine, wrote the following article:

The Southern Poverty Law Center Is Everything That’s Wrong With Liberalism by Nathan J. Robinson

Key quote:

“The Southern Poverty Law Center perfectly shows social change done wrong. It was a top-down organization controlled by an incompetent and venal leadership. It was hypocritical in the extreme, preaching anti-racism while fostering a racist internal culture and being led by men whose own commitment to equality was questionable. It didn’t care about listening to and incorporating the viewpoints of the people it was supposed to serve. It was obscenely rich in a time of terrible poverty, and squandered much its considerable wealth. Finally, it picked the wrong political targets, and focused on symbolic over substantive change. Each of these practices goes beyond the SPLC, and is endemic to a certain kind of “elite liberalism” that desires “progress” without sacrifice. It is the kind of liberalism recognized by Phil Ochs in 1966, and its chief characteristics are a deep hypocrisy and a lack of willingness to seriously challenge the status quo.”

11.  John Stossel (libertarian, social liberal) exposed and shamed the Southern Poverty Law Center:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k41PI54ExFc

“The center has become a hate group itself” – John Stossel

12.  The SPLC smears a Dutch-Somali immigrant Ayaan Hirsi Ali because she supports women’s rights. There’s your intersectionality backfiring on the SPLC, right there!

https://www.splcenter.org/search?keyword=Ayaan+Hirsi+Ali

One can ask: “Do they have a problem with black immigrants? Women who have survived sexual assault?”

13.  The SPLC takes in hundreds of millions for dollars, pays their senior employees six figure salaries, and stashes huge amounts of cash in offshore accounts. How is this fighting hate? How is this an example of “poverty”?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5ArT_LMxVI

14.  Harpers Magazine exposed how the SPLC profits from intolerance:

15.   The SPLC has become so discredited, that the FBI no longer lies on them for information about hate groups:

16.   The magazine Foreign Policy has analyzed and concluded that the SPLC does not provide objective information to monitor hate groups:

https://foreignpolicy.com/2013/03/12/the-hate-list/

17.   The new President and CEO of the SPLC is Margaret Huang. She took a picture of the intolerant anti-white, anti-Semite Nick Cannon, and she has still not taken down the picture or disavowed the picture:

Standing Up to Hate in Torrance, CA: David Rayor

The city of Torrance has wonderful people.

Sadly, there are some marginal bigots in the city who want to cause trouble, who want to shame people who do not look like them, or who hate people in the community who want to protect parents and children from destructive sexual perversion.

One of these hateful people is David Rayor:

He has a problem with people who speak the truth in town, and he wants to shut down and run out of town anyone who speaks the truth.

Check out the hateful remarks he made about me in the Torrance Town Hall Facebook group:

But what else about this guy should we know?

Here's his Facebook page.

What does this creepy guy insist on sharing with the world, anyway?

He's obsessed with masks:

He seems to have a drinking problem, since he is constantly posting about drinking alcohol:

Notice how Davie loves to the start the day drinking!

And apparently, he will use any excuse to throw down booze:

Now, about this whole "hate group" and "running out of town" business ...

The only reason someone defames me or the work I do for MassResistance is that they get their talking points from a hate group called the Southern Poverty Law Center. This hate group, based in Montgomery, Alabama, has a long history of defaming Jews, Muslims, and immigrants. They tried to shut down educational opportunities for African-Americans. The SPLC has also labeled black liberation groups "hate groups," and they think that the Jewish Defense League is a hate group, when the Defense League was forced to help Jews protect themselves from white supremacists, white nationalists, and Islamic militants.

He hates anyone who stands up for children and their parents, who opposes the perverse LGBT agenda being forced on children.

All of his perverse support for these evil views and values makes him a hater, a pervert, and a groomer.

And there you have David Rayor.

Torrance is better than this hate! Time to stand for truth, and time to stand against this festering bigotry!

Wyoming Public Radio: The Southern Poverty Law Center Designations are "Inappropriate"

There is just so much winning for MassResistance.

Many people are growing aware of a pernicious hate group in the state of Alabama. I am not writing about the Ku Klux Klan, but a group that has had worse impact on many people of diverse backgrounds.

I am writing about the Southern Poverty Law Center.

I am happy to report that more news sites, even progressive radio stations in public universities, are sharing our view that the SPLC is a hate group with no standing or credibility.

Here's a complete statement from Christina Kuzmych, the General Manager of Wyoming Public Radio, in response to letter from MassResistance demanding a full retraction of the SPLC defamation on one of their recent articles about our organization:

Thank you for writing and for expressing your point on an issue that is understandably important to you.

I conversed with News Director Bob Beck, and also looked over the sequence of events unveiled here.

It’s my understanding that the portion of the story that included reference to the Southern Poverty Law Center was removed after your discussion with Bob.  I support this move.

Unfortunately, we had referenced the SPLC with the “hate” context attached, and the story had public exposure.  It’s our responsibility now to right this and to note that we reconsidered our position and believe that the SPLW designation of Mass Resistance as a hate group is inappropriate.  MassResistance is an anti-LGBTQ group, and this is the correct designation as per the group’s mission.

When even public radio, oftentimes subsidized by the state, and located in progressive political environments like a public university, agrees that the SPLC is an "inappropriate" designation, you know that you are winning the culture war.

No more hate groups! The SPLC is a hate group, along with Black Lives Matter, Antifa, the KKK, and the Anti-Defamation League, and people need to step up and push back on their hate in every way possible.

Next time the hate group from Alabama targets you or your community (and remember, they have a long history of defaming Jews, Muslisms, and immigrants, as well as Christians and conservatives generally), just let the public that public radio stations have rejected their hate, and so should everyone else.

Wyoming Public Radio
recognizes that the SPLC
has no credibility

This is Black Lives Matter: "Everyone is a White Supremacist"

This is how nutty Black Lives Matter is.

They now have a net 2% favorability rating across the country. No surprises there.

They are also trying to save face for the hateful Antifa bigots who ally with them. How many black lives have been killed, harmed, beaten, etc. by Antifa? Black Lives Matter doesn't give a damn.

And they are really stupid, too, since they sent out this email on August 15th at night, when the key event that they were promoting took place earlier in the day!

Check out how they are trying to spin the latest fight in Downtown Los Angeles this past week, and check out their relentless push to normalize their communist evil:

Greetings BLMLA Family,

STUDY. FAST. TRAIN. FIGHT. Engage with the four pillars of Black August tonight at Chuco’s Justice Center for our monthly general meeting. This special conversation will be led by comrades Jitu Sadiki and Harold Welton from Black August Resistance Coalition/Black August - Los Angeles.

We’ll also honor our fallen freedom fighters and the angelverseries of all of the lives stolen by police violence during the month of August with the pouring of libations. Please offer prayers for their families and go to tinyurl.com/BLMLAcallstoaction for ways to act upon their demand for justice. And join us in the streets! EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 3PM AT 1313 W. 8TH ST., “FUND SERVICES, NOT POLICE!” #EndPoliceAssociations

  • MONDAY, 8/16/2021 at 4:30PM – Pasadena City Council Meeting on zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/161482446 – August 15th marks the angelversary of #AnthonyMcClain, who was killed by the Pasadena Police department. We need all hands on deck to show up to this week’s Pasadena City Council meeting and demand that they 1) Call for the immediate firing and prosecution of Officer Edwin Dumaguindin 2) Accept the resignation of Police Chief Perez EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, and 3) Remove City Manager Steve Mermell. Please submit a speaker card prior to the public comment period at the link here. To participate by phone, call 1-669-900-6833, Meeting ID: 161 482 446.

  • TUESDAY, 8/17/2021 at 9:30AM – Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting on Zoom at https://lapd.zoom.us/s/289225944 – On Saturday, Proud Boys, anti-vaxxers, Recall Newsomdemonstraters...aka white supremacists...attacked counter protesters and journalists in front of the LAPD Headquarters with little to no police pushback. In fact, the police were seen guarding them, despite one white supremacist stabbing counter protesters. When righteous protesters take the streets against police brutality, they often witness and experience the same brutality that they’re protesting against. Just weeks ago at the Wi Spa protests LAPD shot a woman with rubber bullets at close range. In Echo Park back in March, the police mobilized a small army and converged on protesters with their batons, eventually arresting 180 people. At Day 13 of BLMLA’s #BlockGarcetti protest, the police brutalized our folks–a crowd full of Black and Brown women, children and vulnerable protesters–in a dog pile. But when white supremacists assault, kick, and stab people right outside of LAPD’s door, they do nothing. This is the kind of department that Chief Michel Moore operates. This is the racist, white supremacist and last vestige of chattel slavery mindset that can not be undone with reform. Let’s make public comment demanding the commission #FireChiefMoore for his failed leadership and complicity in running a racist department that protects white supremacy and criminalizes Blackness. Coalition talking points here. Please use the “raise hand” function to speak. To participate by phone, call (855) 880-1246, Meeting ID: 289 225 944. Press *9 to be put in the cue for public comment.

  • WEDNESDAY, 8/18/2021 at 3PM (and every Wednesday) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – This week’s action will focus on #SB2 – The Kenneth Ross Jr. Decertification Bill that will take away the guns and badges of cops that engage in misconduct, like killing or brutalizing our people! Police associations are threatened by SB2 and are trying to fight it because it will bring actual accountability to the families of those who experience police violence. But ain’t no power like the power of the people cause the power of the people don’t stop! Wear masks and bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication. If you’re not able to come out, engage in virtual protest by tuning in to the action on Instagram Live @blmlosangeles.

Recap:

  • Last Tuesday, BLMLA members attended the Torrance City Council Meeting in-person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. They used public comment to demand justice on behalf of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell and elevate the demands that the officers be fired for his murder and that Torrance City Council finally create a civilian oversight commission of the police department.

  • Last Wednesday’s Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations rally uplifted #Black August and honored the many angelversaries we’ve lost during the heavy week. The families of #VanessaMarquez, #DavidSullivan, and #MelyCorado spoke. BLMLA member Michael Williams spoke on behalf of #AnthonyMcClain before singing a beautiful rendition of “Lean on Me,” which preceded a healing performance from the LA CAN Freedom Singers.

  • Last Saturday’s This Is Not A Drill was an important discussion on Courageous Conversations and the art of calling in, hosted by Audrena Redmond of BLM-Long Beach and BLM-Grassroots. It was simulcasted on-air KBLA Talk 1580 AM and on facebook.com/BLMLA, where Pro Bono ASL provides language justice access. Missed it? Watch here!

  • Last Saturday, Black Lives Matter stood in solidarity with the family of #AnthonyVargas as they honored his angelversary outside of the East LA Sheriff’s station. Our core team organizer Baba Akili spoke alongside Carlos Montes of CentroCSO to uplift Black and Brown solidarity against racist and oppressive police violence.
