Another Sad Coming Out Story: Steve Kornacki

This is just a sad story, in which yet another man is looking for love in all the wrong places.

The coming out story I never thought I'd write

I was an all-American kid who idealized the family men I grew up around. At 32, I can finally admit I'm different

By STEVE KORNACKI

NOVEMBER 16, 2011 6:00AM (UTC)

I’ve read stories from people who say they always knew they were attracted to the same sex, or that they figured it out at a young age. I’m not one of them. I had practically no idea until one night in my sophomore year of high school. I was at a basketball game, and the guys around me started pointing out cheerleaders from the other team they thought were hot. I began to wonder: Why wasn’t I looking at the cheerleaders that way? And why was I sometimes noticing the other team’s players instead? My heart rate quickened and my mind spun until a thought surfaced: This is what it means to be gay.

He was sixteen years old, and he was not all that interested in the cheerleaders at the time. That does not make a person homosexual. Everyone grows and develops, and then shares a different interest in life on their own timetable. I am now beginning to suspect that many people struggle with homosexual issues because they believe something wrong about themselves during adolescence. For example, if they are not getting involved with the opposite sex in some major way ...

These lies must be confronted as best as possible. Young people need to be assured and comforted that there is nothing wrong with them if they are not getting sexually active with the opposite sex in their teen years. In fact, it may even be wise to refrain from dating until college.

Only it couldn’t be. I was the All-American kid, or so I told myself – good grades, never in trouble, bright future, well-respected by my peers. My favorite comedian was Bob Newhart. After a trip to Cape Cod with a friend and his family, the kid's mother said her favorite moment was watching “straitlaced Steve” struggling to make sense of all the hedonism around him when we drove out to Provincetown. I remember seeing drag queens and men dressed in skimpy attire and thinking to myself: Get me out of here so I can watch a baseball game.

In other words, he had a normal response. A healthy response. Who would want to see such perversion?

I just didn’t fit the stereotypes of gay men. I was an ESPN addict as far back as elementary school. I’d also had early crushes on girls. So my epiphany at that basketball game was as sudden as it was incompatible with my self-image. I fought it relentlessly.

He did have a crush on girls, too. Therefore, not born that way.

My confidence would swell each time I convinced myself a girl was attractive – and it would crater whenever a guy provoked a much stronger, more instinctive response. I searched for loopholes. What if I’d rather sleep with an attractive member of the opposite sex than an ugly member of my own? Would that make me straight, or at least straight enough? Maybe I could find a butch straight girl -- someone with short hair, androgynous features and a fondness for guys’ clothing. Was that the trick?

This guy was too self-involved and insecure as a kid. Therein lies the major problem.

I am going to let his story continue from there.

Eventually, I learned how to compartmentalize. I didn’t have to spend all day fighting my urges; I could just ignore them in public and acknowledge them in private, fleeting moments. I went to the prom with a girl my mother hoped I'd end up with. (The next year, she told me she was gay. I thanked her for telling me, and never gave a hint that we shared something in common.) Back then, at 17, a year still felt like forever, and the idea of being 35 or 40 seemed ridiculously far off – distant enough for me to tell myself that everything would take care of itself and I’d end up married to a woman.

By the time I got to Boston University, I’d buried my secret so deep that I barely thought about it when I was with my new friends. It was contained. Well, mostly. My outlet was online chat rooms, and I kept strict rules: Never give my real name, never give out a phone number, never show a picture, always use a fake email address. There could be no paper trail. This worked until my junior year, but my curiosity grew: Maybe I could arrange to meet someone. Just once. Someone I was sure I’d never, ever see again.

I found my mark on a Friday night in late October 2000. I was in the chat room and about to log-off when a private message flashed on my screen. He was in his early 30s (or so he claimed) and lived in an older neighborhood far from campus. I didn’t see a picture, but his description sounded good enough. I told him I wanted discretion, that I didn’t want to do anything risky, and that it would be a one-time thing. He told me to come over.

The news radio station was playing a report on the Bush-Gore race as I squeezed into an on-street parking space near the Oak Square section of Boston. I fought the impulse to drive away. But I took a breath and stepped out of the car. When I saw him for the first time, I had one immediate thought: Run. Instead, I stuck out my hand and lied: “I’m Chris.” I think he mumbled that his name was Brian. Was it possible I somehow had more confidence than him? “Wheel of Fortune” was on the television, and the living room smelled like my Great Aunt Nitzie’s. I lied again: “Nice place.” He motioned toward the back, where his bedroom was. I’m still too Catholic to add much more here, but suffice it to say: It was quick, I didn’t do much, and I felt dirty, degraded and embarrassed the whole time.

When I got home, I took off my clothes and threw them in the trash. I never slept that night, not even for a minute.

It was three years before I did anything more. I worried that I’d contracted a disease. I worried that I’d run into the guy and be exposed. Boston never felt like a smaller town. So when my friend Dave suggested we drive out to L.A. after graduation, I jumped at the chance to put 3,000 miles between me and what I’d done. The trip was short, but by the time I got back I had calmed down. Around that time, I caught a break I’m still grateful for – the chance to write about politics and do a cable TV show in New Jersey. It was the perfect way to break into political journalism: My career was now on track. I didn’t date girls, but my work life – weird hours, driving all over a state that was brand-new to me -- provided a good cover. If anyone in New Jersey asked me about my love life, I told them about a girl back in Boston; if anyone in Boston asked, I told them I was having fun but that there was nothing serious. I almost came to pride myself on my deception. When a female politician told me she wished she had a daughter to set me up with, I patted myself on the back: I was the guy I’d always wanted to be.

But my curiosity overtook me again. Several times, I arranged to meet up with guys online, but I would lose my nerve and flee, never returning their confused emails. At the end of 2003, after what amounted to a months-long negotiation, I gave in with a grad student at Princeton. The bad news was that he wasn’t what I’d expected. The good news was that I didn’t freak out afterward. I just put the memory in the ever-expanding gay compartment, and went back to living my “straight” life.

I became comfortable emailing out my picture, talking on the phone. So much for not leaving a paper trail. Misleading my friends came to feel natural. I even met up to grab coffee with some guys, which is how I met Brian. He seemed amazingly normal. We talked about football the whole time. I found myself hoping we could get dinner or go to a movie. Dating, I think it’s called. He wasn’t interested in anything serious, but I’d glimpsed a new possibility. There had to be others like him. And it was then that I made a promise to myself: If I ever got into a real relationship, that’s when I would tell everyone the truth.

My work life took me to New York, where I continued my Internet habits. But I discovered that I'm picky -- at least 95 percent of my online conversations would end without any meeting. If someone exhibited stereotypically gay behavior, it would spark my own fear of exposure. One of the early meet-ups was particularly awful. He greeted me with an exaggerated hug and a big, flamboyant personality. I escaped quickly, and cursed myself all the way home. What are you doing?

By my 30th birthday in August 2009, my limited online world was becoming predictable, the same stale email addresses and profiles over and over again. I told friends my new plan was to stay single until I was 65, at which point I’d need a wife to call the ambulance when I’d inevitably slip in the shower. It was a joke, I guess.

And then I met someone who was in a similar situation. Or actually, I re-met him. Dan and I hung out a couple of times several years earlier, and I’d liked him. But the timing hadn’t been right. This time, we met for a drink on a Friday night, and for three hours we sat in a booth at an Irish pub near Union Square. I couldn’t wait to see him again. (Dan is not his real name, by the way.)

For the first few weeks, we met at bars halfway between our apartments. I’d walk him back to his neighborhood across town just to have 20 more minutes around him, then walk a full 40 minutes back to my place. Our first non-bar date was at a movie theater. My hand brushed against his after the lights went out, and I held it until the film was over. It was the simplest thing – who doesn’t do that at 16? – but it was brand-new to me. There was no better feeling in the world.

He was attractive, smart and funny, with a manner that was cool and relaxed. He could be quick with a playful verbal jab. I shared my dreams, my failures, and my many irrational fears. He listened and cared. When I’d feel sorry for myself, he’d give me a kick instead of pouting along with me. If I needed a boost, he’d pick me up. And when I’d start taking myself too seriously, he’d find a way to make me laugh at myself. His instincts were perfect. I trusted him completely and drew tremendous comfort from him. He wasn’t outwardly sentimental, but sometimes he’d let his guard down and let me see his vulnerabilities. I felt close to him.

We talked daily. I spent more and more time at his apartment. I felt great about myself and hopeful about the future. I wanted to go back and tell the 15-year-old version of me to just be patient – that it would all make sense when I met Dan.

I began thinking about my old promise to tell my family and friends if I ever made it into a real relationship. I also knew something important about myself: The longer I stayed on the diving board, the less likely I was to jump off. So I made a gentle suggestion to Dan: I’m not just OK with people knowing, I want people to know. But Dan wasn't out yet either, and I was caught off-guard when he told me to slow down.

We remained close, but Dan's work schedule changed. Even though we spent most nights together, he came home late, tired and preoccupied. It was the nature of his job, but I also grew frustrated, and I began regressing. The fear crept back: What if this doesn't last? What if I end up alone? As I questioned the security of my relationship, I reestablished my old comfort zone with ease. I was straight during the day while spending my nights with Dan.

You can probably guess what happened next: Dan’s work life calmed down, and he became more serious about his personal life. Meanwhile, I was trying to have it both ways, keeping things going with him but paranoid of anyone finding out. Sometime in late 2010, he began telling people he was gay. His parents visited, and he invited me to meet them. I wouldn’t. He’d text me while hanging out with friends he’d told and ask me to tag along. I’d decline. I honestly didn’t want things to end with him. But I'd been on the diving board too long.

The permanence of saying yes to Dan paralyzed me. The minute I told someone, anyone, there’d be no taking it back. His persistence also provided a perverse subconscious incentive that I only now recognize: As long as he was interested in me, I didn’t feel any pressure to face my fears – not when he’d just keep calling me anyway.

You may be wondering why I was so afraid. It’s 2011, after all, and I live in Manhattan, surrounded in social and professional settings by gay people. It's not like I come from a morally judgmental family; I never feared my parents or other relatives turning their backs on me. But 17 years of fear and hang-ups can be hard for a person to shake.

My friends were confused about me, but I’d throw them off my trail by embracing the persona of a cynical, slightly neurotic fatalist. My buddies would urge me to approach an attractive girl at a bar, and I’d tell them it wouldn’t be worth it – not when I was liable to wake up with a sexually transmitted disease. Friends would try to set me up with girls and I’d remind them that most marriages quickly devolve into loveless, soul-crushing arrangements. They didn’t think I was interested in any kind of relationship – straight or gay.

In a way, I can't even explain why I kept this part of myself private for so long. But whenever I would contemplate a change, I would think back to my youth, and the fathers, teachers and coaches who had been my adult role models, all of them old-fashioned family men. How could I possibly be so different?

It hurts now to think how long Dan kept trying – how long he kept believing in me even when I disappointed him repeatedly. He’d hint at his dissatisfaction, and I’d play dumb. One night in March of this year, he called my bluff in the middle of the night. “I think we need to take a break,” he said. A break. That’s just what I needed, I figured – a chance to work through my issues on my own, then come back to him when I was finally ready. It was tough leaving his apartment the next morning, but it didn’t feel final. In the back of my mind, I knew we’d get back together.

And that was my fatal error. Believing on some level our relationship would be there when I was ready led me to rationalize and procrastinate. I missed him immediately and was constantly tempted to tell him. Instead, I'd wait another week, and then one more. In October, I reached out to him with a vague invitation for a drink or dinner, which I’d been doing occasionally since March. I was starting to realize just how much time had passed. He took his time responding this time, suggesting we could catch up the next week. He seemed less eager to hear from me than before. Gee, I wonder why.

At dinner, I made polite, boring talk at the table – no mention of our past, of my feelings, of what was really on my mind. I was in Straight Steve mode. Afterward, I stalled all the way to the subway, when I finally asked if we could talk back at his place. I don’t think he was thrilled with the request, but he obliged. Somehow, I felt I could save this all by telling him I missed him. Instead, he told me he appreciated that, but nothing had changed. I’d been the same way in public before our break. By now, he was dating people and enjoying a more open romantic life. He hoped one day we’d be able to hang out as friends.

I stammered, mumbled something, and generally made a fool of myself, then told him I’d leave. He didn’t stop me. And it finally dawned on me: It was over. I walked home flooded with an urgency I should have felt back in March. I was crazy about him and the choice was easy. But I’d figured it out too late.

When I got home that night, I composed a long, heartfelt email. No reply. I left him a voice mail a few days later. By that point, I just seemed desperate.

I hate what I put Dan through, and I hate that I deprived myself of a chance to be with the person who made me feel proud of who I am. As the sadness and finality set in, my instinct was to play back the tapes in my mind -- all the little ways I let him down. Regret is one thing I’ve always done well.

But this time I stopped myself. There weren’t a thousand little reasons why things had ended up like this. There was one big one. If I couldn’t stand up to the fear that had gripped me since high school, regret would become my permanent condition.

So I junked the old cop-out about waiting until I was in a relationship to come clean, and one by one I sat down with friends, family and co-workers and let them know the real story about me. Some conversations were quick, others were more involved, but all of them felt good. One buddy listened to me, cracked a few jokes, and then started talking about football. “You’re still going to be the Steve who’s obsessed with random teams, right?” he asked. Of course.

And that’s the point. This isn’t the start of some brand-new life. I actually like a lot about the one I already have. But now the fear and paranoia are gone. And my life can finally make sense to the people who matter to me.

Reflection

I pointed out the earlier parst of Steve's story that he had some wrong believing and some confusion about his life. He probably felt different and even ashamed because he was not involved or fully engrossed with the girls in his high school, in contrast to his peers.

That does not mean that he is homosexual. In fact, when people have a false belief and they persist in fighting with that false belief, it turns into a stronghold. I cannot recall how many times I have run into people who gave up on natural affections because of this strange confusion they struggled with when they were younger. Kids need strong adults to support them, to be there for them when they get confused.

Canadian Judge Attacks MassResistance While Locking Up BC Father For Protecting Daughter from Trans Cult

The bail hearing from hell: Canadian judge jails father for breaking “gag order” on gov't supported “sex-change” procedures on his teenage daughter.

Father faces five years in prison after trial next month.

Aggressive, punitive prosecution and hostile, biased judge - clearly meant to send a message to others.

Judge threatens MassResistance after rant against the father!

March 25, 2021
ALT TEXT Outside the courthouse just before the hearing, Rob Hoogland ponders his fate as his supporters gather near the doors.

The dark face of an oppressive government that enforces insane, unnatural, and destructive ideas on innocent people was on display last week in Vancouver, British Columbia. Someday people will look back on all of this in disbelief. But for now, Americans and others around the world need to take notice: What’s happening in Canada now will likely be coming to your doorstep. Be prepared to speak out and oppose it!

Background – a parent’s nightmare

As we described in our March 13 report, Rob Hoogland of Surrey, British Columbia is living a horror story. The government has ruled that his 15-year-old daughter, who believes she is “really” a boy (thanks to school propaganda), must be given dangerous and experimental medical procedures to “change” her sex to male – despite her terrified father’s objections.

These treatments include puberty-blockers, cross-sex hormones, surgical procedures will likely follow. This will cause sterility and other horrible and irreversible side effects, such as unhealthy bone growth and premature aging. In fact, what the girl really needs is psychological help.

This did not happen in a vacuum. The Canadian LGBT movement funded over two dozen lawyers to represent the daughter against her father. With their help, in 2019 the Court ruled that this young girl is “mature” enough to overrule her father’s wishes, and that these treatments are in her best interest.

Moreover, the government insists that everything about this case must be kept secret to “protect” the daughter (whom they state is a boy). Thus, the Court has ordered that neither Rob (nor anyone else) may publicly relate any details about what is happening to his daughter, or reveal the daughter’s name, the names of the hideous “gender clinic” doctors who are experimenting on her, or even Rob’s own name!

Court document outlining its rulings in this case (1/10/2020). Note that Rob is referred to as “C.D.,” his daughter is “A.B.” and the mother is “E.F.”

But Rob has refused to be cowed into silence by this totalitarian gag order. He believes that the world needs to know the truth about what is happening. He has given interviews to MassResistance and other conservative media, and has named the doctors and others who are participating in this.

Rob charged with gag order violations, trial set for April 2021

Last November, the Attorney General of British Columbia formally charged Rob with multiple “criminal” violations of the gag order (known as a “conduct order”). A four-day trial has been set beginning April 12, 2021.

Attorney General cites further violation, seeks immediate jail for Rob

On March 4, the Attorney General filed a further charge because Rob had set up a GoGetFunding page that included his name and other banned information. This time the government issued an immediate warrant for Rob’s arrest, ostensibly to keep him from committing more violations before his April trial.

A bail hearing before Justice Michael Tammen was set for March 16. On that day, Rob was scheduled to turn himself in, which he did.

INCREDIBLE VIDEO: Rob Hoogland speaks before going to court - and jail. Great interview by Canadian pro-family journalist Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson. (6 min 26 sec)

The hearing from hell - the nightmare continues for this father

The hearing commenced on March 16 and was continued on March 19. This was clearly anything but a typical bail hearing for a seemingly minor, non-violent infraction.

ALT TEXT Rob (right) chats with a few of his friends who came to support him, before walking in.
ALT TEXT Some local conservative press was also there.

It was very clear that the Court sought to make a powerful statement to the public.

For example, at the conclusion of the hearing, the judge announced that Rob was denied bail and must stay in jail pending his trial in April – for violating his conduct order (gag order). To put things in perspective, Justice Tammen presided over a hearing two years ago in which he released a convicted murderer pending review of his criminal murder conviction.

Furthermore, it is unheard of for the B.C. Attorney General’s office to be prosecuting a conduct order. It would be like the New York State Attorney General prosecuting a misdemeanor. But the government clearly wanted to put its full punitive force on Rob Hoogland – and send a strong message to anyone else who would stand up to the transgender movement that is entrapping so many children.

It was eerie how coldly businesslike the proceeding was, focused only on following laws, procedure, and orders. Yet at its core was unimaginable child abuse and violation of a parent’s rights. The prosecutor and judge both refused to acknowledge those underlying issues, or why this case has created shock and horror internationally. They both seemed oblivious to their role in enforcing an order that would destroy a teenage girl’s body and life, and that they were violating the bond between parent and child.

But as every American knows, existing law and procedure are easily ignored when a Court is deciding a radical issue like abortion or “gay marriage.”

ALT TEXT Justice Michael Tammen showed no mercy
ALT TEXT Attorney Carey Linde, Rob's lawyer.

And throughout the hearing, Judge Tammen’s demeanor was openly hostile toward Rob and his attorney. He seemed to take on the role of prosecutor at times. He often interrupted Rob’s lawyer to attempt to “correct” his arguments. The prosecutor and the judge both referred to the girl as “he”. Rob’s attorney refused to do that.

The Attorney General’s office makes its case against Rob

The Attorney General’s prosecutor, Daniel Pruim, began by reciting the litany of Rob’s violations over the years. Then he focused on the “GoGetFunding” page, which comprised the specific reason for the arrest warrant. He went point by point over the text and videos on that page, citing dozens of things that Rob wrote and said that are considered “violations.” He compared them to the various “conduct orders” issued against Rob.

He went on to say that Rob’s “son” (i.e., daughter) is suicidal, that these “gender” treatments are saving the child’s life, and implied that Rob’s discussing them makes the suicide more likely.

The purpose was to portray Rob as a deliberate repeat “criminal” against the government who flouts laws and is not concerned for the well-being of his child. And for the “gravity” of these offenses, he must be imprisoned.

Both the prosecutor and the judge pointedly voiced their outrage at one particular statement on the GoGetFunding page. Rob wrote, “I am fighting the far left based on a civil disobedience defense!” The judge remarked, “I’m the left? I’m the far left?!”

The irony should not be lost on anyone. This whole legal and political persecution is from the far left – from the LGBT lobby that has been harassing Rob Hoogland and anyone else who speaks out against their “gender” ideology.

Rob Hoogland’s attorney makes a passionate case

Carey Linde, Rob’s attorney, made a very passionate and (we think) compelling case in Rob’s defense. He covered several points:

  1. There is no evidence of any harm to anyone from Rob allegedly breaching the gag order. The identities of Rob and the two doctors are widely known. The identity of his daughter is known by her schoolmates, neighbors, the community, and the media. There is not now and never has been evidence of problems for any of them from unknown persons. As Mr. Linde said, “So what is the big secret? The genie is out of the bottle. It can’t be put back in with any number of arrest warrants.”
  2. The courts here are being manipulated to hide these unethical doctors from public scrutiny. But these same doctors proudly advertise their skills on social media, and sell books about what they do. As Mr. Linde said,

“The psychologist and endocrinologist are hiding behind court orders while they move an increasing number of emotionally wounded children to a lifetime addiction to expensive gender-altering hormones. These men are abusing the courts for their personal gain. The court cannot sanction this.”

  1. Rob’s “crime” is warning parents of young girls how the government permits schools to surreptitiously convince girls they can be boys. And how the state allows pediatric endocrinologists to give gender-altering hormones to children without the parent’s knowledge or consent.
  2. An obvious question: Why has the Attorney General chosen to escalate this case against a father in such a draconian fashion? It is a punitive and intimidating effort to punish him for speaking his conscience. Will the state have to keep Rob incommunicado behind bars? For how long? “Does the AG think that Rob’s conscience will shrivel up like the testosterone poisoned eggs in his now sterile 15-year-old child?” Carey asked.
  3. Or more to the point: Why isn’t the Attorney General leading the charge to protect young girls with rapid-onset gender dysphoria from the psychologists and doctors experimenting with the girls’ growing bodies and fragile minds without parental knowledge or consent?
  4. The Attorney General is on the wrong side of history here when it comes to denying guardianship rights to parents. How would he or any of us in this room feel if what happened to Rob were to happen to us?
  5. Regarding the “suicide” threat, this entire case is based on a fiction. It’s been well documented that Rob’s daughter was 12 years old when she attempted “suicide” by spraying the contents of a pressurized can in her mouth. She did this because she had a crush on a male gym teacher, and she was disciplined by the school for stalking him. She admitted this at the hospital, which was written in their report. But the LGBT lawyers have been purposefully dishonest about this in their arguments, and the Court refuses to correct it.
  6. Finally, Mr. Linde brought up the recent English case of Bell v Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and others, by the English High Court in London Dec 1, 2020. This concerned a young woman who had gone through “transition” to become a man. She sued because she had been given bad information about it as a teenager. The judgment held there was no medical evidence or statistical basis for the medical claims by the transgender movement – that it is pseudo-science at best. There is no evidence that supports it other than someone saying, “I have a feeling …”

Mr. Linde’s arguments were certainly convincing to us and probably any normal member of the public.

The Judge speaks

One expects a judge to at least give the appearance of being impartial. But there was none of that here. Justice Tammen was openly very harsh toward Attorney Linde, and insisted that Rob’s guilt was undeniable. He told Mr. Linde that the arguments he made had no bearing on this hearing. He stated that Rob had repeatedly violated the conduct orders, particularly in regard to “health care professionals.”  He said that Mr. Linde’s arguments are simply a “collateral attack” on the conduct orders and is no defense at all. The only thing that matters is if Rob violated them, nothing else.

Justice Tammen reiterated very sternly that the basis for that gag order was “to protect the psychological well-being” of Rob’s child. That’s how it stands.

He insisted that Rob’s previous attorneys in this case did not file papers to ask to rescind the orders, the time for it has long since passed, and he was not going to deal with any of that here. And even using his own name publicly makes it clear who the daughter is, he said. But Rob also has posted some a photo of him and his daughter in elementary school, which is apparently a grave violation.

For quite a while the judge basically shouted at Mr. Linde about Rob’s continual violation of the orders, and stated that he will likely continue defying the orders.

Finally, Mr. Linde said to the judge “At some point we have to start dealing with [medical] facts.”

But that was ignored and the judge reiterated that Rob had broken the conduct orders, and that Rob’s disagreement with the correctness of transgender treatments were simply “his opinions.”

In the end, the judge was adamant that Rob must be kept in jail – without bail – until the “criminal contempt” trial, which they decided will commence on April 12 at 2:00 pm.

The judge’s dark attack on MassResistance

On March 19, after Justice Tammen finished announcing his reasons for denying bail, he proceeded to attack MassResistance (avoiding using our name, of course). It gives an insight into his chilling and totalitarian thinking on this whole matter:

[Note that in keeping with the gag order, the judge refuses to use the actual names of Rob and his daughter. He refers to Rob's daughter as "A.B." and to Rob as "C.D."]

I wish to add this by way of an addendum. After I completed [writing my statement], the Counsel for the Crown [Attorney General] brought to my attention additional information concerning ongoing breeches of the publication ban. I have not considered that evidence in reaching my decision, but I will make some comment on it now.

The body of evidence includes a lengthy interview clip that C.D. [Rob Hoogland] gave to an organization that describes itself as a “pro-family activist organization” [i.e., MassResistance].  That entity maintains a website on which it publishes. Although the organization is clearly based in the United States, and thus beyond the territorial jurisdiction of this court, through its website it publishes on the World Wide Web. Some of the content is a flagrant breech of the publication ban orders in this case. Obviously, that content is available within British Columbia and has the potential to cause great harm to A.B. [Rob’s daughter].

The interview given by C.D. provides the strongest evidence of his criminal intent. Through his own mouth, C.D. announces his clear intention to flout court orders and attempt to get his message out before his bail hearing. Thus, rather than take the opportunity he was given by the delay [from March 3 to March 16] of the execution of the warrant and comply with the court orders, C.D. in fact escalated his offending behavior.

The content which is most alarming is contained within the attachment which is posted below the interview with C.D. All of those attachments are documents which could only have been provided to the website host by C.D. or his counsel. The documents include the Crown disclosure for his criminal trial and the press release authored by C.D.’s counsel, Mr. Linde. Two documents relate to A.B. [Rob’s daughter] and his [her] medical treatments. They both contain intensely private information about A.B. One of those documents contains information that on its face is an extremely egregious breech of both A.B.’s fundamental right to privacy and the publication ban.

I alert C.D. now that he must make every effort to have the offending content removed from that website. If at some point I must sentence C.D. for criminal contempt, and that content remains, the range of sentence might be very different than the one I referenced in my recent judicial internment release.

It's interesting that Justice Tammen took the time to threaten MassResistance regarding what we’ve posted, since Rob is clearly unable to contact us (or anyone) while in jail. But more important: Tammen is being dishonest. Those documents that we posted are in no way harmful to Rob’s daughter. (The harm to her is coming from her “medical” team.) They are quite harmful to the Canadian Government’s absurd case against Rob Hoogland.

These documents include the gender clinic’s bizarre “Informed Consent Form” that admits that their procedures are dangerous and experimental, the Vancouver Police Report, and the hospital’s memorandum to Rob where they state that his 15-year-old daughter is “mature” enough to consent to their procedures. The others are basically public documents.

Will Tammen actually lengthen Rob’s prison time, as he outrageously threatened, unless MassResistance “removes the offending content” from our website – something Rob has no control over? We are contacting Rob’s attorney to discuss that. (Someone has already modified the GoGetFunding page.)

Justice Tammen went on to say that people should not believe what they read on “social media” about the case. He said that the “correct” facts about the case are in the rulings by the judges in this case. Those rulings, the judge reminded everyone, have decided that the child has been declared “a mature 15-year-old” and that her father has no right to interfere with anything, or even publicly discuss it.

All of this is like some nightmare court scene out of Kafka or Solzhenitsyn. Judges like Tammen are eradicating humane standards from our institutions. They are men without souls holding the power to inflict trans-human experiments on children. It’s simply madness.

Hateful Bigotry: Downey City Councilman Defends Perversion, Can't Justify "LGBT Picnic"

When California MassResistance wrote a letter to the city council to reject the very notion of an LGBT picnic, one of the city councilmembers, Mario Trujillo, fired back a hateful response:

"CA MassResistance Tells the Truth about LGBT
And that offends me!"

Mr. Schaper -

As an openly gay man, I am offended by your email.

People are born gay, it’s not a choice. Ask yourself ,,,, “when did you choose to be straight?”

Pls don’t email me with this nonsense.

You are just another homophobe in my book.

Mario Trujillo,
Downey Councilmember

This is true homophobia, and yet, it exists among homosexuals themselves.

The truth is that each person is born with the proper capacity for healthy sexual relations. That's why those behaviors are considered "natural". People are not born gay, since there is no genetic component. What is also suspect is that I never once said that people "choose" to be gay, although there is a small segment of the homosexual population that opts for that kind of conduct simply because of frustration with past relationships.

He has to stick out his neck and defend his destructive behavior because the LGBT lobby expects exacting obedience, or else.

Here's something else ... who cares if a city councilman is offended by an email or not? It's his job to expect responses from people in the community about city matters. If he is so easily offended, then he needs to find another line of service.

I responded as follows to his hateful email:

Mr. Trujillo,

Your remarks are uninformed and hateful.

People are not born gay. There is no genetic evidence for this supposition. Here's research to back up my argument:

Even homosexuals themselves are accepting the truth of this matter:

Furthermore, you can speak to David Pickup, Kevin Whitt, and Bobby Lopez, among others. Why are you trying to erase the testimonies of men and women who have left that lifestyle?

Not once did I ever say "It's a choice." People are not born that way, though. The burden of proof lies with militants who insist on imposing this agenda on others. Do you believe in science? Do you have any scientific evidence to back up your heated assertions?

Why are you so hostile? Why do you insist on imposing your preferences onto an entire city?

As far as "choosing" to be born straight, it's a natural inclination, which gets distorted due to abuse, neglect, or molestation.

I must ask, Mr. Trujillo, what does your father think of your behavior? Does he support your conduct? Does he support your disrespect toward others, as well?

To the city clerk and city council of Downey, I urge that these remarks remain submitted for the public record, as well.

What's also really interesting is that Trujillo makes all this noise about his abuse of his body with the same sex, and yet in his campaign efforts in previous elections, he never once mentioned that he was involved in homosexual behavior.

Consider his campaign ad when he ran for Los Angeles County District Attorney in 2012. Click here.

Not once does he mention his "gayness".

Consider his ad for Downey City Council just last year! Click here for the video.

According to one report, Trujillo is "married" to another guy, too. Of course, nowhere does Mario feature his partner in any of his ads for city council. Probably because voters would have been turned off by his behavior.

For a guy who is so bold about being "openly gay", he went to greater lengths to hide his conduct. For this reason, he could not provide any real answers to the points that I had made in my first letter to the city council, and then in the subsequent response to his very hateful email.

Contact the Downey City Council, and tell them to reject this foolish notion of an "LGBT Picnic".

CA MassResistance: Open Letter to Downey City Council, Re: Sexual Perversion Picnic

Dear Downey City Council:

My name is Arthur Schaper, and I am the Organization Director for MassResistance. Our community of activists was instrumental in pushing back on the very offensive, inappropriate sex-ed curriculum originally enacted by the Downey Unified School Board in 2019.

We received information that the city council was actually going to discuss hosting a so-called "LGBT Picnic":

This is truly outrageous.

Why would the city go out of its way to discriminate against the entire community?

Why promote behaviors that are harmful, destructive?

Homosexuality and transgenderism are not inherent, genetic traits. These are behaviors that cut the lifespan short of indivduals who engage in them. These are not behaviors to promote to the general public. These are behaviors which should not be permitted around children.

You are welcome to read our book "The Health Hazards of Homosexuality" for more information:

You should also be aware that there is a growing community of men and women who testify to the truth that people are not born gay, nor are they born in the wrong body. LGBT behaviors are a mal-adjustment resulting from abuse, molestation, and parental neglect.

Here are testimonies to consider:

By the way, the notion that the LGBT "movement" is some further iteration of the Civil Rights Movement is deeply offensive. People are born black. They are not born homosexual or transgender, i.e. in the wrong body, and thus in need for hormonal intervention and mutilating surgeries.

Why would any city support LGBT behaviors in any wise? This is just outrageous.

This idea should have been cancelled before it even began. This agenda item needs to be withdrawn IMMEDIATELY.

Sincerely,

Arthur Schaper
Organization Director

No Need to Respond to Noise in Our Minds

Yesterday, I received even greater revelations due to God's grace and growing wonder about the New Covenant.

Yesterday morning, I woke up, and I started getting angry, bitter about the negative experiences that I have endured on social media. I got angry about how I was treated in a very contentious debate. Then I read an article, in which I got immediately upset and insisted on fighting back, arguing with that person or the people who supported that person all over again.

For the longest time, I had gone through this roller-coaster of self-argument. I want to go back and have that argument all over again.

Instead of getting into the argument cyclone again, I started asking God questions: "Lord, why do I get wound about this issue? Why do I feel compelled to make these arguments again and again?"

The next minute, I went for a long walk in my neighborhood. It was great. I heard His answer clear as day: "You keep thinking that you have to correct the record, to settle the score, to prove people wrong for believing something that is not true. I am more than able to vindicate you."

In fact, before I went out for a walk, as I was putting on my shoes, I started to realize what I was really trying to do: correct the record, prove to people that I was not wrong, stupid, ignorant, etc; i.e. I was concerned about what people would think of me.

But really, who does, who should care what people think of me? I certainly should not care.

Then I realized another wonderful aspect of the New Covenant:

"I will be a God to you" also means that He is committed to vindicating my cause. YES! Amen!

"Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide." (Psalm 26:1)

and

"7And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily." (Luke 18:7-8)

Then a larger revelation ensued for me. For the longest time, I have felt compelled to argue and think out loud on so many issues, and it would just waste so much time for me. I could not relent from wanting to engage in vain disputes with myself, in my home, or even when I went out walking.

Yesterday, I finally received the wisdom I had long sought on this matter. It was wonderful!

Then, last night, as I was lying down for the greater part of the evening, an intense revelation overcame me. I can ignore every invitation to argue and stir up strife because He is a God to me! And God is not going to go away or break off fellowship with me just because I lose my temper, have a bad thought, or engage in a negative feeling. Wow!

For the last few days, I have found myself thinking out loud less and less. I get into fewer mental tangents. There is less and less need to argue about matters that, well, do not matter. There is no longer this compulsion to keep pushing for my arguments, my responses to win the day. This sense of calm is really incredible.

For the longest time, I treated all the noise and nattering as something that mattered, something that I had to respond to. Now, I realize that all of that is hollow and empty. I do not have to be swept aside or going with the critical tide of thinking and feeling that overwhelms my emotions every other day.

This is just wonderful!

I have never felt so care for, so protected. This New Covenant is so wonderful, and God's promises for me, to me, and through me are not affected by the thoughts, feelings, or actions that are going for me, in me, through me, or to me. Amen!

It all makes sense now.

This is truly amazing. I have never felt so free, so at peace. I have never felt so cared for, so protected. There is no longer any doubt in my mind that God is on my side, regardless of what any demon, deacon, or dictator might do to me.

He is a God to me, and I am one of His people, because He is propitious to my unrighteousness, and my sins and iniquities He members no more!

The New Covenant: Not Contigent on Me

I have written about this subject so many times. My mind is resting like never before.

There is new meaning to this verse for me:

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3)

Yesterday, after 6pm, I pretty much decided to rest for the rest of the evening. I decided that I wanted to catch up on rest. If I am tired, there is no need to fight against it. Just rest. That's OK. No condemnation.

I was resting and receiving greater and greater revelation about the New Covenant.

Here's the text of it in Hebrews 8:

"10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

"11And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

"12For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." (Hebrews 8:10-12)

What enforces the New Covenant is not something that we do, but something that He has done:

"I will be merciful (literally, propitious, provide a payment) for their unrighteousness, and I will forget their sins and iniquities."

Every bad thing that we have done, wilfully or otherwise, God will not hold against us. He will not bear a grudge against us. He will not use against us. Our sins and inquities are gone forever. That is all sin. If anyone has a problem with that revelation, consider that when Jesus died for all our sins, all our sins were temporally in the future! All means all! Amen!

There is nothing in the New Covenant which dictates that we must do something to make it happen besides believe it.

None of these conditions are contained in the New Covenant:

1. As long as you keep your thoughts clean and pure.

2. As long as you keep your mind fixed on Jesus in some way, form, or fashion.

3. If you go to church every Sunday

4. If you confess your sins once a week to the local priest.

5. As long as you do not have lustful thoughts or feelings.

For the longest time, I bought into this horrendous, painful set of distractions, that I had to think, feel, imagine certain ways to ensure that God would be with me. A sense of doubt, panic, and fear would ensue every time my mind would waver or I would get distracted by angry, bitter, or lustful thoughts or feelings.

For years, I have been listening to Pastor Joseph Prince, and I have been learning more and more about the wonderful New Covenant which the Lord Jesus has cut for us.

Yet, it really is true: it takes a great deal of time for all of us to understand how fully forgiven we are. It was so difficult for me to rest in the truth that Jesus is taking care of me every step of the way, every step in the day.

So much has been changing in my life over the last year. Yes, there was the COVID-19 pandemic, and yes, there were ridiculous, brutish lockdowns which hurt businesses of all sorts across the country. Many lives were shaken to the core, and families which had coexisted peacefully had to learn to get along with each other more deeply, more intimately, for better or for worse.

I say without any evasion or suppression that my life went very well throughout the year 2020. No matter how bad things were turning out in the world, my life was getting better. Much better.

The New Covenant, in which God is very much a God to me, and I am one of His children, has played out more than ever. For all that hurts, pains, and setbacks which I have faced, life is good!

Even if I am tired, God is still a God to me. His grace, His power in my life is not contingent on what I do, or how I feel. It's all about Him!

Everything that Pastor Prince has been preaching, now all makes sense to me.

When I think about my struggles with sexual temptations, I see at its core, my deepest fears, and the most profound source of condemnation, was that those perverse sentiments were cutting me off from my loving Father, and that they were frustrating God's grace in my life.

The bondage, the pain, the deception is so strong. Today, thank you Jesus, I understand fully that all of that is lies. ALL OF IT!

For the longest time, I would get worried upset, frightened, tense if what I was thinking was wrong, bad, negative, etc. Now I understand that the New Covenant, the grace and peace which God promises to me, is not dependent, not contigent on how I feel, what I think, or even what I do.

Revisiting Black Lives Matter Storm in Torrance, CA--May 14, 2019

Black Lives Matter finally faced some pushback from the Torrance City Council and the Torrance police department.

For the first time in recent memory, the Daily Breeze actually covered me fairly in the midst of my activism in local politica.

Bradley Bemont heard from me pretty quickly that I was not going to tolerate defamation from the Daily Breeze, especially when a group of white supremacists running under the guise of Black Lives Matter were shaming me before the city council during the previous meeting.

I did not take the bait and run down the city council to defend myself. There was no need to.

Anyway, here's the tweet from an article about the city council hubbub from that night:
Here's the tweet that followed:

It pays to confront journalists, to ensure that they report the truth, and that they do not traffic in lies to the public.

Here's my video confronting Bradley at the city council meeting in May 2019.
