The True Nature of the Southern Poverty Law Center

Like many pro-family organizations in the United States, MassResistance celebrates the DOJ’s filing charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center. This hate group masquerading as a civil rights organization has repeatedly targeted us, and it’s good to see them finally facing the legal music.

First, a little background ….

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has long posed as America's premier watchdog against "hate." Founded in 1971 in Montgomery, Alabama, it built a massive endowment—topping hundreds of millions—by mailing dire warnings about rising extremism to fearful donors. Yet beneath the polished facade of civil rights heroism always lay a darker agenda: a partisan smear machine designed to delegitimize, defame, and ultimately destroy conservatives who dare defend traditional values, border security, religious liberty, and free speech.

While most pro-family groups cowered or avoided talking about the SPLC, MassResistance has consistently exposed their tactics. With more exposure in a federal criminal case, the institution is facing well-deserved financial and legal freefall. The organization's recent federal indictment for wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering—alleging it secretly funneled over $3 million in donor funds to informants tied to extremist groups like the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Nations—only confirms what MassResistance has warned about for years: the SPLC was never fighting hate; it was manufacturing it to justify its existence.

For yForFor years, MassResistance has endured defamation from this hate group in Alabama. They falsely maligned our President, Brian Camenker, for claiming that the Nazis never targeted homosexuals. They have defamed our Field Director, Arthur Schaper, as an anti-immigrant activist and conflated him with white nationalists. As a result of this smear campaign, local and national newspapers would reference the Southern Poverty Law Center when describing our efforts and activism. They insisted on hiding behind that institution to smear us as a “hate group.” Local parents and activist organizations often stayed away from us because of this unjustified smear. Other pro-family groups also resisted our confrontational approach to activism because they feared the SPLC’s “hate group” label.

There have been fatal consequences, of course—as intended, frankly. In 2012, Floyd Lee Corkins walked into FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C., armed with a gun and a list of targets drawn from the SPLC's hate map (one of the organization’s most notorious gimmicks to smear and harm conservatives). He shot and wounded a security guard before being stopped. Corkins explicitly cited the SPLC's labeling of FRC as motivation. The SPLC condemned the act in vague terms but doubled down on its defamatory actions, refusing to remove FRC from its “Hate Map” and insisting its criticism was "fact-based." And that’s what the SPLC is really invested it: they want to foment violence against conservatives. Mark Potok, one of their “researchers,” readily admitted this motive in a 2007 conference: “Our goal is to destroy conservatives.”

Some critics of this hate group have argued that the organization started with the right motives, but then went to the dark side, so to speak. The truth is much darker. From its inception, the SPLC sued many groups—including the defunct KKK—for so-called civil rights violations just for the money. It was never about fighting injustice. Morris Dees, one of the co-founders of this hate group, had represented the KKK before turning to civil rights litigation. While he would claim that he had had a moral epiphany, the truth is that he was always a greedy ambulance chaser looking for a more lucrative legal enterprise, nothing more.

Their selective outrage clearly exposed this moral rot. The organization downplayed black separatist antisemitism or Islamist extremism while inflating "anti-LGBTQ+" or "anti-immigrant" threats from groups advocating basic biblical views on sexuality or immigration policy. Their tactics weren't neutral monitoring; they were ideological warfare. The SPLC partnered with Big Tech, corporate media, and the federal government to blacklist conservatives, influencing everything from payment processors to school curricula.

To their credit, conservative outlets, independent journalists, and organizations like the Heritage Foundation have documented how the SPLC inflated "hate group" counts by counting single-person websites or peaceful advocacy outfits multiple times while ignoring left-wing violence. Lawsuits mounted. The Center for Immigration Studies sued for defamation after being labeled a hate group; courts allowed discovery, revealing internal doubts at the SPLC about its own standards. Other targets pushed back in the court of public opinion, refusing to cower.

But MassResistance directly confronted SPLC influence in schools, libraries, and legislatures. We fought back against their defamation. We confronted reporters and newspapers that listed that hate group as a legitimate source. We even forced local newspapers to retract their libelous claims and stop referencing the Southern Poverty Law Center altogether.

We certainly appreciated the exposure of the organization's internal scandals, too: sexual harassment allegations against founder Morris Dees (leading to his 2019 ouster), racial discrimination lawsuits from minority employees, and bloated overhead that funneled donor dollars into luxury while "fighting poverty." These revelations eroded trust. Donors, including some on the left, began questioning the hype.

Post-2020, as riots exposed left-wing extremism, the SPLC's credibility crumbled further. Conservative lawmakers, including House Judiciary Committee members, grilled the group's influence on federal agencies. Limited government activists even reached out to MassResistance, asking us to consider testifying before House committees to expose the SPLC.

Then more good news followed, which MassResistance has continued to celebrate. In 2024-2025, internal mutiny erupted: mass layoffs of 25% of staff, a no-confidence vote against CEO Margaret Huang backed by 92% of remaining employees, and her eventual resignation. Financial woes mounted amid donor fatigue and bad publicity. The SPLC's own reports showed fluctuating "hate group" numbers that suspiciously spiked with Republican administrations—classic fundraising fuel.

With the second Trump administration, the SPLC has faced more troubles. FBI Director Kash Patel severed all ties. House Republicans held hearings exposing coordination with prior administrations to target Christians and conservatives. Then, on April 21, 2026, a federal grand jury in Alabama indicted the SPLC on 11 counts, including wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors allege the group secretly paid over $3 million (2014-2023) to informants embedded in or affiliated with violent extremist circles—the very groups it claimed to dismantle—while misleading donors about its work.

This indictment validates a decade of MassResistance’s warnings. The SPLC didn't just target conservatives with rhetorical violence; its methods subsidized the extremism it profited from decrying. Real hate exists—Klansmen, neo-Nazis, jihadists—but the SPLC blurred lines to smear pro-family Christians, border enforcers, and constitutionalists as equivalent threats. MassResistance succeeded by refusing silence.

Yet the fight continues. The SPLC vows to "defend" itself, and leftist allies decry "political targeting." True resistance demands full accountability—no more partnerships with smeared organizations, no more taxpayer-adjacent influence, and relentless sunlight on its remaining assets. Conservatives must reject the hate label entirely, building parallel institutions immune to smears.

For the last ten years, MassResistance fought the SPLC not with truth, persistence, and principle. We exposed the SPLC as a bully profiting from division, not a beacon against it. MassResistance proved that determined patriots can topple even the mightiest smear factories. The SPLC's decline offers hope: when citizens reject fear and demand honesty, the house of cards collapses. America rejects manufactured hate. We defend ordered liberty instead.

Washington Free Beacon Reports on CNN Defamation Suit

CNN spent another day in a Panama City courtroom, where it's attempting to defeat a $1 billion defamation suit. Tuesday's proceedings included opening statements and testimony from the plaintiff, Navy veteran Zachary Young, who revealed details sure to embarrass the network, our Jessica Costescu reports from the scene.

For starters, Young's attorney, Kyle Roche, recounted internal text messages in which CNN's editors admitted that their reporting on Young—which falsely accused him of operating in an illegal "black market" when he attempted to evacuate Afghan nationals from the country in 2021—was "full of holes like Swiss cheese" and consisted of "80% emotion and 20% obscured fact."

He also disclosed a contract between Young and private military contractor DynCorp that included a clause barring Young from working in a "black market," the very term that landed CNN in hot water. Major American entities like Audible and Bloomberg—not poor and vulnerable Afghans—paid Young for evacuation services, according to court proceedings.

Young also noted that star anchor Jake Tapper, whose show aired the accusations in question, has not apologized for the segment. While CNN aired an apology four months after the segment ran, chief investigative correspondent Pamela Brown filled in for Tapper on that day.

"It's devastating when you're labeled a criminal, all over the world," Young said during his testimony.

CNN chief media analyst Brian Stelter, sometimes referred to as "Humpty Dumpty," did not tweet about the trial on Tuesday, though he did ding Trump for referring to an interview as a news conference.

We'll be back with more trial coverage tomorrow.

CA MassResistance: Exposing Norwalk-La Mirada "Karens" Marie and Rudy Miranda

Rudy and Marie Miranda, the NLMUSD "Karens"

[Arthur Schaper's speech to the December 16, 2024 Norwalk-La Mirada School Board meeting]:

Today is a really exciting day for Norwalk La Mirada School District.

Congratulations to Espie Free and Becky Langenwalter.
It's also an exciting day for MassResistance.
Since the middle of 2023, I have been privileged to work with a number of wonderful parents in this community, men and women who did not want their children subjected to getting directions on obtaining abortions or sex change procedures from a so-called well-being center at one of the high schools.
What has been really exciting about working with the parents in this community is that they have stayed active despite a major victory last June, when we received word from the principal and then from other staff that the well-being Center was going to be shut down for good.
The work is not done however, because there are still obscene books in the school libraries, and there are LGBT clubs that have no business being available to kids, and there is still the aftermath of the COVID-19 lockdowns. There is also grave danger with the upcoming ethnic studies program, which seeks to divide rather than unite students. We should not allow that to happen.
There are also ongoing concerns about this upcoming superintendent Natasha Baker. Will she treat teachers and staff with respect? Will she listen to the needs of students and the concerns of parents? You need to keep a close on her and make sure that she has learned the lessons from her failures at Banning and Fresno Unified.
MassResistance parents are still committed to fighting the good fight and ensuring that the school district continues to put the needs of children and the rights of parents first and shows a commitment to getting rid of all of this woke DEI LGBT garbage in the school district once and for all.
Last of all, I am compelled to speak out against a hateful Karen named Marie Miranda and her shameful husband Rudy Miranda. These despicable people have routinely defamed parents in this community, calling them terrorists and extremists simply because they don't want perversion being pushed on their children.

Their kind of bigotry reminds me of the Nazi movement that sought to label, libel, and then eliminate people they disagreed with. The only difference between them and the Ku Klux Klan is that they don't have the dignity to put white shawls to hide their faces, and their anti-religious bigotry is so great that they wouldn’t burn crosses on people’s lawns.
Such adults who work with children, and then come to a school board meeting and call parents terrorists have no business being around children, and I think that the school district needs to take a stand on this kind of abuse.
The fact of the matter is that abusive Karens like Marie Miranda can't handle the fact that the parents voted. They voted to get rid of all of the woke nonsense, and they want a school board that will actually listen to them rather than listen to hateful partisans like the Mirandas. Last of all I would like everyone in the audience to raise your hand if you are a resident in the Norwalk La Mirada School District. For some reason, bigots like Marie and Rudy Miranda oppose democracy and here don't think you matter.
That’s the real extremism, and it needs to be opposed with our collective voices.

CA MassResistance Confronts "Norwalk Patriot" Hack Reporter Who Labeled Them a "Hate Group"

This is how you do it! For too long, conservatives, pro-family activists, and common-sense citizens in general have allowed local and large media, whether corporate or independent, to get away with shaming and defaming mothers and fathers who want to protect their children from perversion, corruption, and outright danger.

This is the latest effort by government regimes, whether at the local, state, or federal level to silence dissent. One of their best tactics is to label citizens in action "hate groups," and corrupt newspapers like The Norwalk Patriot rely on real hate groups like "The Southern Poverty Law Center" to accomplish these heinous actions. In a July, 2023 edition of their discredited newspaper, the Norwalk Patriot labeled CA MassResistance parents a "hate group."

Well, at the August 14, 2023 Norwalk-La Mirada School Board meeting, the parents fought back!

Check out how they confronted the hateful reporter Vincent Medina, who was so fearful and cowardly, that he tried to hide behind a police officer the entire time. He was so shaken by the outraged parents confronting him for this hate, that he ran away after five minutes. We need more parents, more citizens in general to rise up against corporate media's bias and bigotry!

Everything You Need to Know about Alabama Hate Group "The Southern Poverty Law Center" (But Were Afraid to Ask)

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is an illicit, discredited hate group.

They have a long history of defaming and libeling women, minorities, and people of faith.

Anyone who cites the Southern Poverty Law Center as a serious source for anything is ... well ... a hater, a bigot, a pervert, and probably a big-time groomer.

Here's all you need to know about the Alabama Hate Group otherwise known as "The Southern Poverty Law Center."

1.      The agency's co-founder, Morris Dees, was fired for fostering a work culture of sexism and racism, as well as engaging sexual misconduct. Not exactly tolerant or loving, right? Minority employees never received promotions—ever.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/14/us/morris-dees-southern-poverty-law-center-fired.html

https://www.npr.org/2019/04/17/713887174/after-allegations-of-toxic-culture-southern-poverty-law-center-tries-to-move-for

2.      The President of the SPLC, Richard Cohen, was forced to resign for enabling Mr. Dees' misdeeds. So did the SPLC legal director Rhonda Brownstein. Ironically, they fostered and permitted the very culture of hate they claimed to combat. Their organization routinely refused to hire anyone aside from white males and females.

https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/2019/03/22/southern-poverty-law-center-legal-director-rhonda-brownstein-resigns/3245281002/

3.      Bob Moser (liberal and openly gay), a former employee of the SPLC, informed the public in an exposé for The New Yorker that the whole SPLC is just a smear-machine fundraising mill, nothing more. The agency was never intended to actually stop extremism and hate, but just raise money off of gullible corporate donors who wanted to feel that they were helping the fight.

Moser states:

“All the time, dark shadows hung over everything: the racial and gender disparities, the whispers about sexual harassment, the abuses that stemmed from the top-down management, and the guilt you couldn’t help feeling about the legions of donors who believed that their money was being used, faithfully and well …. We were part of the con, and we knew it.”

4.      The SPLC was forced to pay a $3.3 million settlement to Maajid Nawaz for libeling (not just labeling) him and his organization the Quilliam foundation as an "anti-Muslim extremist" simply because as a Muslim reformer he opposes Sharia Law and supports women’s rights. Former President Richard Cohen had to make an official apology, too.

Here’s their apology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMAStj8Jtks

Maajid Nawaz said that he was “targeted” by the SPLC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZYa8J_NU8Y

5.      SPLC has smeared MassResistance as a "hate group." It's a laughable charge.

a.       Our organization spans chapters throughout the world, including Nigeria, Chile, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, as well as the United Kingdom. We have men and women of all ages and ethnic backgrounds who have sought MassResistance to help them combat the LGBT agenda and its lies. How is that hate?

b.      For the record, mothers and fathers who care about their children do not constitute any kind of "hate group". The truth is, it is hateful to call loving parents "haters" for protecting their children from sexual deviance and perversion.

c.       Homosexuals have contacted our activists and our main office to voice SUPPORT for our activism. A number of them want to leave the LGBT culture, but fear the repercussions of breaking away.

6.      The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed the following groups as so-called hate groups. The collection of groups which they have smeared with this canard is so laughable, that any pro-family/conservative activist group that is NOT on their list should question their effectiveness!

a.       The Alliance Defending Freedom

b.      The Family Research Council

c.       The American Family Association

d.      The American Freedom Alliance

e.       Family Watch International

f.        World Congress of Families

g.      The Remembrance Project – This group fights illegal immigration, and represents the concerns of families whose loved ones have been killed by illegal aliens. This is hate?!

h.      Liberty Counsel

i.        National Coalition for Issue Reform – This is the most nonsensical I have seen yet.

j.        The American College of Pediatricians – Yes, the SPLC labels caregiver doctors for children as a “hate group” – are you laughing yet?!

k.      The Pacific Justice Center – This group based in California fights for religious liberties and parental rights. That’s hate?

l.        The Jewish Defense League – I kid you not. They consider Jews who defend Israel a “hate group” – This is beyond ridiculous.

m.    Christians and Jews United for Israel – Once again, the SPLC attacks Jews as a hate group. They sound more like Nazis or the KKK.

n.      The Center for Immigration Studies – This group is headed by an Armenian-American, by the way. This group is one of six suing the SPLC for libel.

o.      Federation for American Immigration Reform – This group has supporters of all backgrounds, including Black and Jewish Americans.

7.      The Southern Poverty Law Center tried to shut down charter schools which served predominantly poor, black communities in Mississippi. It’s documented below:

https://www.theepochtimes.com/southern-poverty-law-center-loses-in-court-fails-to-defund-charter-schools_3074911.html

8.      The Washington Post printed an editorial slamming the SPLC as having lost all integrity:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-southern-poverty-law-center-has-lost-all-credibility/2018/06/21/22ab7d60-756d-11e8-9780-b1dd6a09b549_story.html

When even the Washington Post has given up on you, you are a lost cause!

9.      Regarding the charge of Homophobia: "Homophobia" suggests a fear of homosexuals. On the contrary, MassResistance and its members have never shied away from confronting individuals on the dangers of LGBT behaviors. In fact, our main office has received commendations from currently practicing LGBT individuals to support our efforts to confront this agenda! It is not a mental disorder to oppose LGBT Behaviors, since they are fraught with disease, dysfunction, and death.

10.  Current Affairs, a Liberal Magazine, wrote the following article:

The Southern Poverty Law Center Is Everything That’s Wrong With Liberalism by Nathan J. Robinson

Key quote:

“The Southern Poverty Law Center perfectly shows social change done wrong. It was a top-down organization controlled by an incompetent and venal leadership. It was hypocritical in the extreme, preaching anti-racism while fostering a racist internal culture and being led by men whose own commitment to equality was questionable. It didn’t care about listening to and incorporating the viewpoints of the people it was supposed to serve. It was obscenely rich in a time of terrible poverty, and squandered much its considerable wealth. Finally, it picked the wrong political targets, and focused on symbolic over substantive change. Each of these practices goes beyond the SPLC, and is endemic to a certain kind of “elite liberalism” that desires “progress” without sacrifice. It is the kind of liberalism recognized by Phil Ochs in 1966, and its chief characteristics are a deep hypocrisy and a lack of willingness to seriously challenge the status quo.”

11.  John Stossel (libertarian, social liberal) exposed and shamed the Southern Poverty Law Center:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k41PI54ExFc

“The center has become a hate group itself” – John Stossel

12.  The SPLC smears a Dutch-Somali immigrant Ayaan Hirsi Ali because she supports women’s rights. There’s your intersectionality backfiring on the SPLC, right there!

https://www.splcenter.org/search?keyword=Ayaan+Hirsi+Ali

One can ask: “Do they have a problem with black immigrants? Women who have survived sexual assault?”

13.  The SPLC takes in hundreds of millions for dollars, pays their senior employees six figure salaries, and stashes huge amounts of cash in offshore accounts. How is this fighting hate? How is this an example of “poverty”?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5ArT_LMxVI

14.  Harpers Magazine exposed how the SPLC profits from intolerance:

16.   The magazine Foreign Policy has analyzed and concluded that the SPLC does not provide objective information to monitor hate groups:

https://foreignpolicy.com/2013/03/12/the-hate-list/

17.   The new President and CEO of the SPLC is Margaret Huang. She took a picture of the intolerant anti-white, anti-Semite Nick Cannon, and she has still not taken down the picture or disavowed the picture:

21.  The Southern Poverty Law Center has raised hundreds of millions of dollars, and then stashes the massive amounts of cash in off-shore accounts. How does any of this help fight for civil rights?

22.  The Southern Poverty Law Center members have gone on record making it clear that they are not a non-biased civil rights organization, but a partisan group that targets conservatives:

22. Wikipedia does list MassResistance as a hate group, but that’s only because of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s defamation. The founder of Wikipedia left the company in 2007, and he has announced that Wikipedia has no credibility:

23. The Southern Poverty Law Center Hate Map targets innocent pro-family organizations, and their hate induced a deranged gunman to target staff at the Family Research Council in Washington, DC.

Update: Joy Reid Issues Insufficient "Apology" for Defamation of California Trump Supporter

Joy Ann Reid has embraced controversy, but has also faced fire for writing unkind blog posts, along with anti-Semitic and even homophobic remarks. In spite of all that, she still has a newscasting career at MSNBC. What's going on?

Over the past week, she issued a media frenzy against California Trump supporter Roslyn La Liberte based on a false tweet sent out by open-borders activis Alan Vargas. Click here for the article which contains the full report on that social media frenzy.

Today, Reid finally issued a retraction and a partial "apology":

She posted her tepid retraction on Facebook, too:

There are a few problems, of course.

First of all, her original post went super-viral. This retraction has only received 200+ shares. Hardly any in comparison to the slanderous story which has spread like wildfire across social media.

Next, she softens her failure with "It appears ...".

No. Without a doubt, she got this wrong ... WAY wrong.

Look at the vicious comments which she wrote, drawing so many false conclusions from one photo:

He showed up to a rally to defend immigrants. ... She showed up too, in her MAGA hat, and screamed, “You are going to be the first deported" ... " dirty Mexican!”

He is 14 years old. She is an adult. Make the picture black and white and it could be the 1950s and the desegregation of a school. Hate is real, y’all. It hasn’t even really gone away.

3. Mrs. La Liberte's business website is still crashing. She has lost considerable business as well as standing in the community because of the awful, unjust slander which she has endured.

Let's assess fully the truth of MSNBC Reid's complicity in slander and wrongdoing.

Reid deliberately projected the racist legacies of the Segregationist South into this picture. She invited her readers to look at this photo and make it "black and white", then instructed them to look at Mrs. La Liberte as some kind of race-baiting segregationist fighting to keep black people in the back of the bus.

Reid had neither right, nor authority, nor presence of mind nor any kind of historical or contextual evidence to attribute such invidious discrimination. Mrs. La Liberte is Jewish, went to school in a majority black community, and maintains friendships with Americans of all ethnic backgrounds.

Reid should have known better, but she doesn't, or rather she has gotten away with such hateful bigotry in the past, but without consequence.

John Nolte of Breitbart News outlined nine instances in which Reid pushed anti-Semitic and homophobic remarks, including blog posts which defamed a politician with lies about his private life. The MSNBC anchor lied about how those posts ended up on her blog, but the truth is that she wrote all of those slanderous, scurrilous remarks, and she must own the content of what she wrote along with her immoral character for having written them then trying to distance herself from those words.

Mrs. Reid has already gone too far.

She needs to be held accountable for pushing her unsubstantiated hatred towards a mother, a grandmother, and a small business owner just because she is a Trump Supporter.

I had contacted her media and publicity staffers to demand a retraction, and Reid barely complied.

That is not enough.

MSNBC and Mrs. Reid need to hear from the public, and they need to understand that Reid's legacy of lies, distortions, and racist smears will no longer be tolerated.

Leave comments on Reid's Twitter and Facebook post that her "apology" is not enough.

Contact these NBC personnel, and demand that Mrs. Reid be terminated:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To the NBC Media Village Publicists and Media Directors:

Having looked over the damage wrought by Mrs. Reid's unthinking, insensitive, racist comments and social media posts toward Mrs. Roslyn La Liberte and other members of LA County for Trump, there is no proper remedy for the libel, slander, and defamation which have resulted other than for Mrs. Joy Ann Reid to resign.

Reid's posts on Twitter and on Facebook attacked Mrs. La Liberte by drawing unjust comparisons with her and to racist Southern segregationists was beyond the pale.

Mrs. La Liberte has suffered immensely both in terms of her reputation as well as financially, specifically her business.

I am very well aware of Mrs Reid's loose connections with the truth as well as the slanderous, hateful remarks which she has uttered against Jews as well as about homosexuals.

She has been exposed on record for lying about those blogposts which she wrote, and yet MSNBC has continued to cover for her lies, smears, and slander.

Her legacy of rhetorical abuse and hatred can no longer be tolerated.

Mrs. Reid must resign, and resign immediately.

For those who have received this email, I urge you to share the following contact information with as many people as you can, and urge them to follow the following steps.
