Campaign Life Coalition: Now Dress Codes are "Discriminatory"

Dear Arthur,

Do you ever have those days when you just want to shake your head and go back to bed?

I have an unfortunate update on the situation regarding Kerry “Kayla” Lemieux, the Oakville Trafalgar High School teacher sporting oversize fake breasts and protuberant nipples and what seems to be a sick pleasure in involving youth in his sexual fetish.

The Halton District School Board approved a motion in September to examine the possibility of implementing a staff dress code.

I last emailed you to lament that that measure was not nearly sufficient—a teacher this deranged has no business teaching minors and ought to be fired.

Developing a dress code was the very least the board could do to make it look like they were actually doing something. Here was their opportunity—their free pass—to pretend like they cared about parents’ and other stakeholders’ concerns.

It never crossed my mind that they wouldn’t even manage the bare, performative minimum. Believe it or not, they're actually advising against a dress code!

You have to read for yourself an excerpt of their rationale (emphasis added):

Read the full report from Director of Education Curtis Ennis and Superintendent of Human Resources Sari Taha here.

Once again, the board’s priorities are crystal clear. They’re interested in protecting themselves from liability first and foremost – before even the safety and well-being of students.

Recall, too, that the HDSB does, in fact, constrain students’ attire, stating that “Dress codes must prevent students from wearing clothing that exposes or makes visible genitals and nipples.”

Apparently they can’t hold adults—their own employees—to the same standards that they hold children.

So, where will it end? What could a teacher hypothetically get away with wearing (or not wearing) before the board realizes how insane and untenable their position is?

Our outrage will not be quelled.

We did deliver a hard copy of the signatures already, but clearly the HDSB has yet to appreciate the immense outcry! We must persist and make it impossible to ignore, by amplifying our voice even more.

The resistance is building. There’s even a local parental rights group called Students First Ontario that has formed in Oakville, where the school board operates, that might be taking legal action against the HDSB over this debacle.

Lord have mercy on us.

Sincerely,

Josie Luetke
