MassResistance Fights Pirated Version of Book, But Amazon Still Wont' Restore Sale of "Health Hazards of Homosexuality"

 

Amazon posts pirated, counterfeit copy of our Health Hazards of Homosexuality book for sale as Kindle edition. Appeared a month after Amazon banned the real version.

But continues to ban the real version.

Phony “author” claimed he copyrighted it. Amazon dragged their feet taking it down.

Appears to be an inside job at Amazon. But why?

We’ve all watched as Big Tech has been aggressively banning and de-platforming conservative ideas. And in particular, Amazon, which has a virtual monopoly on book sales, has been removing conservative books from sale. But we’ve never quite seen anything like this.

We recently reported that on July 17, 2020 Amazon suddenly banned our book The Health Hazards of Homosexuality from being carried on its site. It had been printed and sold through Amazon for 3½ years without any problems. From the beginning, they certainly knew what the book contained. Amazon’s book division had worked with us, helping to format the 600-page paperback book. (We also posted a Kindle eBook edition with Amazon which they took down).

But in July, Amazon abruptly decided that the book contained “offensive content.” No appeal was possible. Our account was blocked, including even the book’s sales and royalty records.

However, after our report came out, we started to get some startling calls and emails from our readers. When people searched for our Health Hazards book on Amazon, they pulled up an eBook entitled The Negative Consequences of Same-Sex Sexual Behavior. Except for the new cover and title, it was essentially a word-for-word copy of our paperback edition of The Health Hazards of Homosexuality! (The Preface was eliminated, some sections were removed, and an altered product description appeared on Amazon.)

 Here's how it was advertised on Amazon's website.

Crudely put together

The pirated work was available only as a Kindle online eBook. But it was very crudely put together and did not function properly as an eBook.

The text did not “flow” depending on the type of device or font size you used; each page was a self-contained block (like a physical book page). You could not change the font, highlight any words, or perform a search. None of the endnote links went anywhere. The endnotes chapter was entirely missing.

The table of contents (TOC) was basically a digital image from our Kindle edition, but none of its links to chapters or sections functioned.

Collusion with Amazon?

Usually, creating a Kindle eBook is a fairly involved process that’s much different than creating a printed book. Our own eBook version was slightly different than our paperback version for that reason (more photos and captions, functional links and URLs,  searchability, etc.).

Looking at the content of the plagiarized book, there are strong reasons to believe that the plagiarist used the digital file of our paperback version – which only Amazon and MassResistance had copies of – and attempted to apply that to a Kindle edition.

The evidence? The text and layout were virtually identical to our book’s. The plagiarist made some minor edits: He changed the font, took out our Preface, re-worded some chapter titles, and removed a few chapter sub-titles. (But the deleted chapter sub-titles still appeared in the TOC!) There were non-working links (reference numbers). There were captions without corresponding images.

The plagiarized book was posted on Amazon on August 16, 2020 – a month after Amazon had taken our book down. The “author,” who claimed it as his work and posted “Copyright © 2020” on it, was shown as Marc Aboayda, who also has other sex-related and homosexuality-related eBooks for sale on Amazon.

Finally, how could all those eBook problems get past Amazon’s screening (which our book had to go through)? It couldn’t pass the eBook functionality tests. And of course, the content was clearly “offensive” by Amazon’s standards, since they had just banned our Health Hazards book on that account.

It’s all very weird.

Dragging their feet in removing it

We immediately provided Amazon with the full information about the copyright infringement of The Negative Consequences of Same-Sex Sexual Behavior and demanded they take it down. We have seen books get taken down by Amazon – for legitimate reasons – within a matter of days. In this case, it took a week of fairly intense persuading.

We still haven’t been able to find out who “Marc Aboayda” really is. (We’re still working on that.) But worse, even though that one book has been removed, he still has his Amazon account intact and is selling several other of “his” books! But when Amazon removed our Health Hazards book, they closed our entire account.

Obviously, Amazon does not take plagiarism and copyright infringement very seriously (or they would at least close down that account). Certainly not as seriously as the “crime” of having conservative ideas.

When will our Health Hazards book be available again?

Unfortunately, at this point we don’t know. We are looking into finding a printer. We will keep you informed on this.

What you can do now

1. Tell Congress to hold Big Tech accountable. Recently Congress has been holding hearings on how Big Tech has a monopoly on information and discriminates against conservative material.
   Contact US Senator Mike Lee (R-UT). Sen. Lee is Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights.
   Select the topic: "Internet/Telecommunications." Tell him: "Amazon is using its monopoly power in the book industry to squelch free speech. It is banning important medical reference books and other books that disagree with Amazon's leftist agenda. This is high-tech book-burning. Anti-trust legislation is desperately needed!"
2. Join others and SIGN THIS PETITION to make a statement to Amazon! Don’t let Amazon silence the truth about these unhealthy and destructive behaviors.

Final thoughts

Any conservative or pro-family person publishing a book – especially as an independent author – that contradicts the liberal dogma needs to understand that the “woke” people who work at Amazon despise you. This is reflected from the top to the bottom. And unfortunately, for decades the right-wing press that publish mainstream “conservative” stars have avoided anything truly controversial.

We all need to find an alternative way to publish and distribute books with serious conservative content.

 Since Amazon has a near-monopoly on book sales, this is a big problem for our country that needs to be addressed.

Legal Opinion Without Facts: "Homosexuality is Neither Unnatural nor Harmful"

Proponents of anti-gay laws often claim to be religiously or culturally motivated or argue that anything but heterosexual behaviour is harmful, contravenes “natural behaviour” or is “abnormal”.

All these points have been rationally countered and it is increasingly understood that homosexuality is neither unnatural nor harmful.

Do you have evidence to support these claims that homosexuality is neither unnatural or harmful?

In the meantime, I have ample evidence to counter those claims significantly.

Schoolchildren - and society - are being given deadly messages for the sake of political correctness and a radical movement

 One of the logos for World AIDS Day 2019. The well-crafted message is about everyone around the world loving each other - NOT about avoiding the behaviors that cause AIDS!

On December 1, the 21st annual “World AIDS Day” was observed around the globe – particularly in schools and on college campuses. Except for “Pride Month” in June, it is the LGBT movement’s biggest ideological push on society. It is also the most dishonest – in a deadly way.

LGBT activists, and their enablers in the medical establishment, hope that playing the sympathy card will cover up the fact that the biggest risk for getting HIV/AIDS is still anal intercourse – the prime sex practice of “men who have sex with men” (i.e., “gays,” bisexual men, and other men who practice sodomy).

For over a decade, MassResistance has fought back and tried to educate people about this. We recommend our 2017 book, The Health Hazards of Homosexuality, for an in-depth treatment of the subject no one else wants to touch.

The worldwide AIDS problem

HIV/AIDS is a horrible disease that brings a slow, excruciating death. About 1.2 million people in the US have HIV. Nearly 38 million people around the world are infected. Almost 2 million more people contract it annually, including about 40,000 in the US.

The disease is spread overwhelmingly through homosexual behavior. Two-thirds of new HIV/AIDS cases are from male-to-male homosexual sex, i.e., sodomy (anal intercourse). About one-quarter of new infections are from heterosexual sex – usually a female getting it from an infected male. Seven percent of new cases are from injecting drugs using infected (shared) needles. 

Shockingly, about 21 percent of all the new HIV/AIDS cases are in young people ages 13-24 (primarily males).

As many as 1/6 of people with HIV/AIDS are unaware that they have it, so they are likely spreading it to others. Of those who know they are infected, only two-thirds are taking anti-HIV medications to attempt to “control” the disease so it does not progress to AIDS.

The real cause of the spread of AIDS is something that society must not ignore!

The “World AIDS Day” propaganda machine

As with everything else it does, instead of telling people the truth, the powerful LGBT movement uses “World AIDS Day” as a propaganda tool. It is largely targeted at young people whom – they hope – will not be dissuaded from partaking in anal sex. Rather than talking about how the disease is spread, they create an emotional campaign portraying HIV-positive people as victims of a cruel and heartless society.

For example, the Human Rights Campaign, the world’s largest LGBT organization, prominently promotes “A Student’s Guide to World AIDS Day.” It describes the “fight” against HIV/AIDS:

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for students in the United States and abroad to show their support for people living with and affected by HIV … it is particularly important for college and university students to make their voices heard and organize efforts to raise HIV awareness on their campuses.

It steers students into unproductive activities such as holding a candlelight vigil, displaying an AIDS quilt, setting up a kissing booth, and giving speeches about people living with AIDS.

It also sugests outrageously misguided (and potentially dangerous) activities such as:

Organize a health fair where students can learn how to have safer and more pleasurable sex ... it might be a good idea to order condoms and lube and make them available to your attendees.

What people are NOT being told

People are not being told that all homosexual sex is a dangerous perversion that should be completely avoided. As recently as 2009, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website still posted former Surgeon General Koop’s warning that “anal intercourse is simply too dangerous to practice.”

People are not learning that “gay” and bisexual men account for over 70% of new HIV infections (while comprising only 2-3% of the population).

They are also not told that in actual use condoms are highly unreliable for HIV/AIDS prevention, especially when used during anal sex.

Here’s what your children are being told instead

Young people are getting terribly dangerous messages from their schools and other authorities, as well as government-sanctioned LGBT groups.

Sex-ed courses being taught in schools are telling children that anal sex is just another “normal” form of sex (equating it with vaginal intercourse).

 This is from the "Teen Talk" sex-ed curriculum used in California schools. Similar lessons are in schools across America.

In addition, high schools and middle school students are repeatedly told to “use condoms” for “protection” when having anal sex.

 This "how to" flyer was given out at "Youth Pride" in Boston - an event for high school and middle school students. It's from BAGLY, an LGBT organization targeting children as young as 12.

 This package includes a condom for anal sex and anal sex lubricant. It was given out to high school and middle school students at "Youth Pride" in Boston.

 These "female" condoms are regularly given out to boys at Youth Pride events - to insert in their rectums before engaging in anal sex.

LGBT groups are also bombarding kids as young as middle school age to “get checked for HIV/AIDS” as frequently as possible – as if that were some kind of magic bullet.

 This is one of many flyers by LGBT groups offering free HIV/AIDS tests to high school and middle school students. Given out at "Youth Pride" event in Boston.

 Shockingly, Children's Hospital in Boston is among the worst in giving young people (ages 13 and up) the message that "safer" anal sex and "testing" will keep them healthy. A Children's Hospital representative told MassResistance that they do NOT involve the parents of minor children because it's "confidential.".

There is no attempt to dissuade people from partaking in anal sex. Rather, the implication is that it can be engaged in somewhat safely (if condoms are used and if you get tested often) – and if one contracts HIV, it’s not such a big deal anymore. This is a dangerous, deadly lie.

This bizarre flyer from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health was passed out at Youth Pride in Boston. Note that it's about "lowering" the HIV risk, not eliminating it. Note also that staying away from all sexual behavior is NOT one of the points. Plus, the pamphlet implies that one can have HIV and stay "healthy" - which is not true!

HIV/AIDS drugs being marketed as prevention – or a sort of “cure”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control agency (CDC) is pushing the idea that “men who have sex with men” can avoid getting HIV/AIDS if they take a daily medication called PrEP. It is marketed as effectively preventing HIV nearly 100% of the time if taken as prescribed.

PrEP is being heavily promoted, and the federal government is even picking up the tab for men who don’t have prescription drug coverage. It essentially has given the green light to homosexual men to continue to engage in anal intercourse – the riskiest practice of all for contracting HIV. This message is also being told to youth.

 "One Pill a Day Can Help Prevent HIV." This card was passed out at Youth Pride in Boston - looking for young people to try the PrEP medication for "research" purposes.

There are also medications being marketed which aim to keep the HIV infection from progressing into full AIDS.

Much of this is, of course, experimental and dependent on no new strains of HIV.

Major drug companies are making a lot of money marketing these medicines to mitigate the disease in those who have it and prevent it in those who don’t. Given these new tools, the CDC’s hope was that the yearly number of new HIV infections would continue to decline. However, this has not happened. The CDC is now admitting that their efforts to reduce new infections has “plateaued” and that “there is a real risk of an HIV resurgence.”

They blame this partly on “complacency” about the disease (because of the new medicines) plus the uptick in injected drug use following on the opioid crisis. (So now, the HHS is now helping to fund needle exchange programs in cities around the country!)

But many find it hard to stay on HIV/AIDS medicines for a number of reasons, including the often horrible side effects. And even with these medications, their life expectancy will still likely be reduced.

This is a magazine catering to HIV-positive men. It was handed out at the Youth Pride event in Boston.

Unfortunately, young people are being led to believe that the new drugs will either entirely prevent infection, or help them to lead a “healthy” life if they do become infected. This is a deadly lie.

But how much blame should go to the failure of medical authorities everywhere to tell people to Just Say NO to anal intercourse?

MassResistance: Presenting facts and demanding action

Beyond being the main conduit for HIV/AIDS transmission, homosexual sex practices bring a wide range of other serious medical and psychological problems. Cancers, hepatitis, other sexually-transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, rectal trauma, depression, anxiety, and suicidality are all disproportionately seen in the LGBT population.

But World AIDS Day wants our conversation to focus instead on testing, condoms, “stigma,” and emotional stories about people with the disease.

Among pro-family groups, MR is virtually alone in confronting school boards and administrators and elected officials about the dangers of the LGBT lifestyle – and demanding that it should not be portrayed as “normal” in any classes or programs, and that the true medical facts be taught to our vulnerable children (and everyone else)!

Uneasy Start, Sudden Cut-Off Leads to Massive Attention and Support for MassResistance

In previous posst, MassResistance reported on the efforts of our Texas and Houston MassResistance chapters to stop another Drag Queen Story Hour, this time in Leander Texas, a conservative-leaning suburb of Austin, Texas.

When our activists found out that the Leander public library was hosting their own Drag Queen Story Hour, they hammered the Leander, Texas city council. They received an overwhelming number of negative calls and emails demanding that the city cancel their Drag Queen Program. When a local “progressive” church took over the event and agreed to host it privately, more of our pro-family forces assembled to protest and to end the program.

News of MassResistance's efforts against Drag Queen Story Hour program reached national networks, including the Fox News Network, Laura Ingraham specifically. Within a day, she contacted our Waltham, MA main office to invite a spokesman on her program to discuss Drag Queen Story Hour, specifically our opposition to it.

Arthur Schaper, our Organization Director, took up the challenge. He had spoken for MassResistance on other programs, including InfoWars as well as writing for Barbwire, Townhall.com, and other publications.

Arthur relates the rest of the experience below.

The Program

I had never participated in a debate or discussion on national television before, including the Fox News Channel. Even though the new channel touts its reputation as “Fair and Balanced”, our main office had concerns about Arthur’s appearance on the Ingraham Angle with Laura Ingraham.

Ingraham’s brother is openly gay, for example, and there is a growing recognition that the Fox News Network by and large is either pro-gay (one of their news anchors Shep Smith is gay) or simply refuses to discuss and confront the LGBT Agenda on its network programming.

I was prepared for anything. When the producers in Washington DC informed me that this was going to be a debate over Drag Queen Story Hour, I was prepared for a combative clash of ideas.

I arrived at the LA-area news studio about an hour early, which gave him a chance to tour the facilities and take a few photos:

I received few instructions, aside from being told that I needed to focus on Drag Queen Story Hour.

The opposing guest, the man who supports allowing homosexual adult entertainers to read to children, Jonathan Merritt, a pro-gay Christian author.

The “Discussion”

Ingraham began the brief segment with a segue, describing the Drag Queen Story Hour event in Leander, Texas:

INGRAHAM: When Leander, Texas, a city of 56,000, decided to put an end to this, citing upset citizens, a leftwing church known as Open Cathedral stepped in to hosted the event this weekend. So what happens there? Joining me now to debate is Arthur Schaper, director of Mass Resistance, and Jonathan Merritt, a progressive Christian writer and author of the book "Learning to Speak to God from Scratch." All right, Arthur, what is your group's main objection to these drag queen story hours that are popping up all across the country?

Arthur candidly admitted afterwards that he did not watch the Ingraham Angle regularly. Therefore, he had no real idea how the debate format works on her program. He was combative from the outset:

ARTHUR SCHAPER, DIRECTOR, MASSRESISTANCE: Thank you again, Laura, for having me on the show. My name is Arthur Schaper. I'm the organization director for Mass Resistance. We are the international pro-family group that makes the difference. We have had parents contacting us all over the country about these perverse programs. The bottom line is this. You have adult homosexual men, adult entertainers going into a public library reading to children. That alone should not only be setting off alarms, but people should be demanding this to be canceled even before it starts. We're not talking about diversity. We are talking about deviance. We're talking about perverse and destructive lifestyles being animated or advertised to children as if it's normal. You can just look at the website itself.

I was clear about the problem with drag queens reading to children—adult entertainment is not acceptable around young people. Period. I was not content with focusing exclusively on that issue, but wanted to bring out the fact that this was a subversive means of normalizing LGBT behaviors and ideas.

Ingraham took offense when I mentioned “adult homosexual men”, and stated:

INGRAHAM: Wait, wait, hold on, Arthur, are you saying that gay people can't read to kids ever? We're talking about a very specific issue with drag queens. That's what we're talking about here, so try to keep it focused on that issue.

With all due respect to Ingraham, I had done exactly that, and so I continued:

SCHAPER: We're talking about drag entertainment here, drag entertainment. This is adult illicit entertainment, to put it mildly. And we are having these entertainers reading to children? Why stop there? why not have poll [sic] dancer story hour? How about having porn actor story hour. This is just nonsensical.

In the next brief segment, Ingraham asked the progressive Christian author to justify allowing drag queens to read the children. I admit that I intermittently criticized his remarks, and Laura had to ask me to wait my turn. Looking back on this part of the “debate”, I recognized that there really was no need for me to interject remarks. Mr. Meritt’s attempts to justify Drag Queen Story Hour lacked “merit”, to say the least. His defenses of the program were weak and laughable.

Then Laura allowed me to wrap up this very brief segment:

INGRAHAM: Arthur, close it out quickly.

SCHAPER: There are normal ways to do this. We are not talking about knitting. We're not talking about a Bible class. We're talking about degenerate, perverse entertainment. And not only that, not one but two sex offenders were exposed at one drag queen story hour in Houston, Texas. That is what our organization revealed. Mass Resistance, I'm with the California chapter. If you want real reading –

Arthur holds up copy of MassResistance book

“The Health Hazards of Homosexuality”

At that point, I brought up a copy of MassResistance’s famous, controversial tell-all book exposing the full extent of the health and societal problems with LGBT behaviors. I had intended to segue from the book to stating that this is the kind of reading that needed to take place in libraries. But Laura cut me off and refused to let me continue.

INGRAHAM: Don't hold up props. Here's one thing I don't like on this show, when people bring props. OK?

This criticism was unexpected for me. No one in the Los Angeles office had told Arthur that he could not have an item to bring up and show the audience. Also, it seemed strange that Laura took exception to my bringing up MassResistance’s key book exposing the LGBT Agenda and the dangers associated with those behaviors, but earlier in the segment she had promoted her other guest’s book. Why the double standard?

SCHAPER: This is what people should be reading to understand at length what's going on with this whole agenda.

In this last segment, the public got a better glimpse as to what was Laura Ingraham’s thought process about the segment:

INGRAHAM: OK, I got it, I got it. This is not a segment or promote one particular a group. We are trying to figure out what is really going on here. People have legitimate concerns on both sides of this issue. What is the point of doing this with kids? Is there a point? That's what we are trying to find out tonight. We wanted to have a really good conversation. We appreciate it.

For me, the statement that really troubled me from Laura Ingraham was ‘People have legitimate concerns on both sides of this issue.’ What?! There is no legitimate defense to allow drag queens, adult entertainers, in a public library to indoctrinate children to embrace destructive behaviors, lifestyles, and ideas!

Frankly, can there be any legitimate defense to allow illicit, sexually explicit adult entertainers into a library to read to children?

Response: Massive Support and The Overwhelming, Left-Wing Backlash

After the recording, the MassResistance main office shared concerns with Arthur about his performance on the program. Arthur conceded that he didn’t get to share many of the crucial points which the public needed to hear about the underlying agenda connected with Drag Queen Story Hour. He also recognized the fact that he interrupted the other guest. However, many people across the country watching the interview (and who followed Arthur’s YouTube Live feed afterwards) appreciated what Arthur did.

A number of viewers were grateful that Arthur spoke out against the LGBT Agenda forcefully and without reserve. They actually liked that he was not afraid to make the case with the title of the book “The Health Hazards of Homosexuality.”

Many supporters were quite critical of Laura Ingraham, in fact, instead of Arthur. Reviewing the interview, it seemed that Ingraham was only committed to giving that part of the program five minutes tops, hardly enough time for a robust discussion on a contentious issue. Viewers were also very critical that she cut Arthur off just as he was talking about the two sex offenders who were participating in the Houston, Texas Drag Queen Story Hour earlier this year. Many others also said that Ingraham has a long-standing habit of interrupting her guests, not allowing them to finish their comments.

One MassResistance activist in San Diego, California even suggested that Laura was caught off guard. She realized in the midst of the broadcast that she was ill-prepared to discuss the whole drag queen story hour phenomenon, and her lack of preparation frustrated her.

The positive comments have been coming in every since. Of course, having Arthur mention and speak up for MassResistance on national television is a big victory for our pro-family fight!

As expected, the backlash from the left-wing, pro-LGBT press was immediate. But their vehemence about Arthur stating the obvious—that homosexuality is hazard to one’s health—brought out even more vitriol from the left-wing media “watchdogs”!

Even more conservative leaning reports on Arthur’s appearance were not exactly charitable:

One part of the report suggested that the writer was more sympathetic to Arthur:

"All right, I got it," Ingraham said, rolling her eyes and cutting off both guests as it became apparent Schaper was not going to put down his book [italics added].

Ingraham brought on the guests to discuss whether or not "Drag Queen Story Hour" which was being held in various libraries and bookshops in Texas was a good thing.

In an epic first, major newspaper the New York Daily News featured an article slamming MassResistance following Arthur’s appearance on the Ingraham Angle:

Arthur Schaper went on TV tonight to spread FEAR. He may well know people have no choice over being queer, but he wants them to be AFRAID to acknowledge it. He wants to encourage rejection and encourage discrimination. He does not value the lives of queer kids.

Arthur’s appearance on the Laura Ingraham was a huge victory for MassResistance. Our efforts are expanding all over the country—and the world—and the press, both conservative as well as liberal—is starting to notice.

Two weeks ago, Arthur had published an article faulting the more conservative media for not taking a firm stance to report accurately and criticize the LGBT Agenda. His appearance on the Ingraham Angle gave him the opportunity he and the rest of the MassResistance team had long hoped for to get this debate about limiting and delegitimizing the LGBT Agenda in the larger culture and society as a whole.

MassResistance is not only making the difference, but is forcing the larger mainstream media culture to pay attention. The regressive left—the media, the institutions, and the activist groups—are getting worried as they realize that our direct, confrontational approach against the LGBT is working, changing minds and saving lives.

MassResistance Stands Out at Value Voters Summit

Pro-family conservatives are being pulled in new directions by national leaders. But are the parents fighting battles in the trenches being left behind?

The national Values Voter Summit, arguably the most prominent annual pro-family conference in the U.S., took place in Washington, DC last week. Thousands from across the country came to hear dozens of excellent speakers and connect with the exhibitors. It also attracted some big names. President Donald Trump, Judge Roy Moore, Michele Bachman, Steve Bannon, Laura Ingraham, and Bill Bennett were among the luminaries who spoke.

The Values Voter Summit, run by Family Research Council, is the largest gathering of pro-family conservatives in the US.

MassResistance was an exhibitor. On display in our booth were: our book, The Health Hazards of Homosexuality; the latest book by MassResistance-Texas leader Dr Robert Oscar Lopez; Wackos Thugs & Perverts: Clintonian Decadence in Academia; and a book by former elementary school teacher (and MassResistance activist) Ellie Klipp to help young children deal with the “transgender” agenda being forced at them, titled I Don't Have to Choose; plus write-ups of our current battles.

The book that no one wants to talk about!

Are conservative groups moving away from the core culture war battles?

The three main themes of the conference were the radical Islam threat, religious freedom, and “draining the swamp.” There were also presentations about increasing the influence of Christianity in society.

But there was no formal discussion about the radical homosexual agenda – which has taken over corporations, government, the entertainment industry, and much of society. There was nothing about the LGBT destruction of the US military. Or “gay marriage.” Or the ex-gay movement. It appears that this overwhelming issue is largely being conceded by the pro-family establishment. Furthermore, there was only one session on the recent “transgender” push.

Nobody but MassResistance was addressing the medical issues surrounding homosexuality, even though that has become a major public health issue in America.

Of the headline speakers, Judge Roy Moore was the most notable figure known for fighting this aspect of the culture war in a fearless and uncompromising way. But it wasn’t the centerpiece of any of the major speeches at the conference. (And Judge Moore spoke at a ticketed luncheon, so many attendees missed him.)

There was one panel discussion titled, “Transgender Ideology in Public Schools: Parents Fight Back.” But the advice that was given was to parents was pretty unsettling. They were told that in order to fight the transgender agenda in their schools, parents should not talk about their Christian beliefs, or sound angry or “anti-gay.” Instead they should come off as “reasonable.” To gain credibility and support, they were advised to form a coalition with atheists, liberals, and homosexual activists who appear wary of the transgender agenda in the schools. This kind of watered-down, non-confrontational advice seems interesting in theory, but we’ve never seen it ever work in practice.

These days everyone’s talking about working for “religious freedom.” To us that seems to be too defensive and compromising on our side, and too dependent on the Left listening to reason. It doesn’t seem like a recipe for taking back our liberties. In other words: All of us already are supposed to have complete religious freedom. So why should we have to bargain for it? Our attitude should be to take it back!

This is all extremely distressing. But it’s not the fault of the conference or its organizers. It simply reflects the state of the movement.

The people across America running the mainstream pro-family movement no longer think in terms of serious culture war, or confrontation against evil people. Those things are too uncomfortable. It’s now about measured and reasonable opposition, scholarly analysis, and non-offensive talking points. Not exactly a war strategy. And, of course, lots of fundraising.

Outcome from the conference: More MassResistance chapters?

Despite all that, the Values Voters Summit was well worth attending. It attracted a lot of under-the-radar, grassroots pro-family activists and leaders. A stream of people came to the MassResistance booth.

We found that we’re more well-known that we thought. The president of one state Family Policy group approached Brian Camenker with his high school-age daughter. He told her, “These people at MassResistance are the ones who keep the rest of us all in line.”

Former presidential advisor Sebastian Gorka told us he liked what MassResistance was up to, and was happy to take a copy of our book, The Health Hazards of Homosexuality. Judge Roy Moore’s wife also got a copy.

We talked to people from an ex-gay group, pro-family Tea Parties, parent groups, and groups fighting radical school committees. We found that when you get to the grass roots, there is a huge demand for the kind of direct counter-revolutionary activism that we provide. A number of activists asked if they could form MassResistance chapters back in their states.

We left the three-day conference energized.
