FRC Announcement: (More) Evidence that Sexual Orientation Can Change

I received this statement from a research at the Family Research Council.

It's conclusions are notable yet commonplace, considering the fact more people have known, and most people have recognized, that people are NOT born gay, and the fact is that more people are finding that they can leave homosexual conduct without too much trouble.

The truth is that the whole LGBT Movement is nothing more than cultural Marxism, looking for any means possible to destroy the moral fabric of the United States and undermine the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness which makes America Great!

I will add a few counterpoints to the general statements provided below:

1. There is no such thing as "sexual orientation".

2. There really is no such thing as "a homosexual", since every human being has a fallen nature in need of redemption.

3. There is no such thing as "sexual identity."

4. I think we should stop talking about "homosexual tendencies" and simply refer to these fleshly leanings as "same-sex desires".

That's what this young man did when he final "came out" -- then came home!

I wanted to let everyone on this list know about a new paper of mine just published by Family Research Council last month. It is titled Evidence Shows Sexual Orientation Can Change: Debunking the Myth of “Immutability.”

Triggered by a question from a couple of people via email (one of whom was Stephen Black—thank you, Stephen!) about how many “ex-gays” there actually are, I began digging a little more deeply into the question of the evidence showing that sexual orientation can change. I am NOT talking about studies regarding outcomes of “sexual orientation change efforts,” per se (I wrote about that last September; see https://www.frc.org/issueanalysis/are-sexual-orientation-change-efforts-soce-effective-are-they-harmful-what-the-evidence-shows). Rather, I am talking about longitudinal surveys (of the same people over long periods of time) with questions about people’s sexuality. They clearly show that all of the elements of sexual orientation—attractions, behavior, and identity—are subject to change over time (but homosexuals are MORE likely to change than heterosexuals).

In the paper I quote extensively from the 2016 paper on “Scrutinizing Immutability” by (lesbian) researcher Lisa Diamond (famous for her work on “sexual fluidity” among women) and Clifford Rosky. But I obtained copies of 6 journal articles based on these four large data bases, and did my own analysis (to the limits of my statistical ability) of them as well.

(I should say that the paper does not actually answer the question of how many ex-gays there are, but only that they clearly exist! Maybe I will work on that next).

Executive Summary

Many of the advances of the homosexual movement have been based on the claim that sexual orientation is “immutable.” For example, Justice Anthony Kennedy’s majority opinion in the 2015 Supreme Court case that redefined marriage to include same-sex couples rested upon that assertion. Key policy issues still being debated in which the supposed “immutability” of sexual orientation can be an issue include efforts by LGB activists to expand non-discrimination laws to protect sexual orientation (such as the proposed federal “Equality Act”), and efforts to restrict or ban sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE), sometimes called “conversion therapy.”

The concept of “sexual orientation” is multi-faceted, involving a combination of attractions, behaviors, and personal identity. Changes in any of these elements (sometimes called “sexual fluidity”), and a lack of “stability” or “exclusivity” in or among them, represents evidence that sexual orientation can change. This paper reports results from four large data sets reflecting longitudinal analysis of the same individuals over time in population-based samples (three from the United States and one from New Zealand). All demonstrate that significant change in each of the elements of sexual orientation is possible. The percentage changing from homosexuality to heterosexuality ranged from 13% to 53%, while the percentage changing from heterosexuality to homosexuality ranged only from 1% to 12%. This suggests that heterosexuality is largely stable but homosexuality is not. In one survey of “same-sex attracted respondents,” up to 38% of men and 53% of women “changed to heterosexuality” in only a six-year period.

FRC endorses the call by pro-LGB scholars Lisa Diamond and Clifford Rosky to “abandon the immutability argument once and for all.” Diamond, Rosky, and others on the Left argue that a belief in personal freedom should be sufficient support for pro-homosexual policies. However, this amounts to substituting the principles of the sexual revolution for the principles of the civil rights movement. The public would be wise to question instead whether the goals of the homosexual movement can be justified at all.

In the last decade, there’s been an explosion of “gay” BDSM (homosexual sadomasochist) events hosted by upscale big-city hotels.  Truly, it’s out of control. 
During this last weekend in April, a depraved orgy dubbed CLAW (Cleveland Leather Awareness Weekend) is taking over three downtown Cleveland hotels: the Westin, Hampton Inn, and DoubleTree. 

Based on the workshop descriptions and items available for rental, many of the conference rooms, hallways, and private rooms may be spattered with blood, ejaculate, feces, and urine.

The CLAW organizer admits that the weekend is just one big orgy. Here’s his description:

The draw is it's a bunch of masculine men in leather and gear, cruising for sex … we have a huge vendor mart, about 35 workshops and discussion groups on various things like BDSM skills, community and peer groups…  we do a big showcase, a runway kind of thing on Friday night featuring the vendors and just some hot young guys…  It's a live auction, right in the center of the lobby on Saturday night, of these three young men who have each had their cock cast in silicone — medical grade silicone, by one of our sponsors SquarePeg Toys [which sells anal fisting dildos].  And so it's an auction with these nice looking guys and you actually get to take their cock home with you.

A “gay” website describes a similar BDSM event, “International Mr. Leather,” held at the Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago in 2015:  

The entire hotel is converted into a pleasure dome, with all sorts of kinky happenings, over the course of the weekend.  The lobby becomes a buzzing, high-end leather bar, with the mild scent of rubber and rawhide lingering in the air. The ballrooms turn into dance parties, and the hallways are converted into cruising grounds.  The whole building transforms into something resembling a bathhouse (but with nicer carpets and lighting)…  A room at the hotel costs much more than the typical bathhouse, but that was the biggest difference between the two.

“Gay” bathhouses are infamously linked to the spread of AIDS and other diseases, but about 70 continue to operate in many cities in the U.S. Now, some upscale hotels are (at least temporarily) turning into bathhouses. Where are the CDC and local health departments when we need them?

BDSM-affirming research admits that BDSM participants have a high rate of mental disorders (25% have attempted suicide; about 40% suffer from anxiety and depression), twice the incidence of Hepatitis C, and ten times the incidence of HIV/AIDS as the general population.

In other words, major corporations are knowingly allowing their hotels to become public health hazards – both for the event participants, and the innocent guests who follow. These hotels will never be clean again. Traveler beware!

How have we arrived at this low point?

Ever since homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (in 1973) – for political, not scientific, reasons – open depravity has been growing like a malignant tumor.

Then came state and local laws, plus corporate policies, demanding “non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation” – a term undefined in the law. Applied to public accommodations (such as hotels), these laws result in the defilement of public places affecting all of us.

While sexual orientation is referenced in laws, it’s intentionally left undefined. Sometimes, a specific perversion not to be protected (such as pedophilia) will be singled out in a statute, but what exactly sexual orientation does include is not spelled out.

Ryan Anderson at the Heritage Foundation notes:

SOGI [sexual orientation/gender identity] laws could … have serious unintended consequences.  These laws tend to be vague and overly broad, lacking clear definitions of what discrimination on the basis of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” mean and what conduct can and cannot be penalized.  These laws would impose ruinous liability on innocent citizens for alleged “discrimination” based on subjective and unverifiable identities, not on objective traits…  Under SOGI laws, acting on … [religious or moral] beliefs in a commercial or educational context could be actionable discrimination.

The Supreme Court recently gave the BDSM community a huge green light in the 2013 ruling, Lawrence v. Texas. Sodomy and related perversions conducted in private were no longer to be considered criminal (though still not declared a “fundamental right”).

Justice Scalia noted that ruling was “a massive disruption of the current social order.”  Homosexual sodomy (and its variations) is not a fundamental right because it is not “deeply rooted in this Nation’s history and tradition.”  Scalia declared, “there is no right to ‘liberty’ under the Due Process Clause.”

Yet in the current legal environment, SOGI anti-discrimination laws are used to protect sodomy in all settings, not just private homes.

But where is the legal definition (or ruling) requiring these filthy sadomasochistic practices be protected under the umbrella of sexual orientation?

The pro-LGBT Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law quotes as authoritative the definition of sexual orientation from the Yogyakarta international law conference (2006):

Sexual orientation is understood to refer to each person’s capacity for profound emotional, affectional and sexual attraction to, and intimate and sexual relations with, individuals of a different gender or the same gender or more than one gender.

How can that cuddly description possibly include the abusive practices that go on at a BDSM event: fisting, scat (feces play), rimming (anus licking), felching (sucking ejaculate & feces from the partner’s anus), electric shock play, watersports (urine play), puppy play, master/slave, erotic asphyxiation, “authentic crucifixion,” the Rack, whips, lashes, chains, ropes, mummification, saline injections in the genitals, metal rods in the urethra, sex toys (including fist-shaped dildos), live demonstrations, XX-rated video and costume sales, nude parties, etc.

You can see CLAW’s workshops here.  Brace yourself. Some workshops will take place in the hotels, some in nearby “gay” bars and “dungeons.”  And the attendees will practice their skills in their private hotel rooms. You can be sure that the follow-up cleaning will not adequately sterilize these public accommodation spaces. Yet local health authorities are hands-off.

Too many have been duped to believe banning such events would be discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. And the sexual radicals are using the vagueness in the law for all it’s worth. So, we see unbelievably degraded “workshops” taking place in upscale hotels all over the country.

Who will challenge CLAW given that it is an IRS 501(c)3 approved group?  CLAW describes itself as a “national leather charity.”  As of 2018, it had donated $800,000 to radical LGBTQ groups, including those focused on youth (GLSEN, PFLAG, and various LGBT youth centers). Other recipients of CLAW funds are the Chicago Leather Archives & Museum, pride organizations, National LGBTQ Task Force, National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, Woodhull Foundation, various “LGBT rights” advocacy groups, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, HIV-AIDS groups, leather groups, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, etc.

The fact that CLAW funds youth groups, GLSEN, and PFLAG shows that these people are grooming our youth. This is not hyperbole.  In May 2009, the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth (an official government agency) held its annual “Youth Pride” parade and fair. Ending the day was a queer prom at Boston City Hall where teens were greeted as they entered by “Mr. Boston Leather” handing out his “business” card (with information leading them to leather groups).  Too many young men especially are being seduced by social acceptance of this depravity.

The corporations allowing these events – Marriott, Hilton, and other hotel chains – ought to be ashamed.  They are allowing their properties to be polluted while keeping this fact from the public.

The slippery slope is real. It is time to overturn SOGI non-discrimination laws.

On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 12, three MassResistance-Texas mothers (including a former elementary school teacher) presented a fact-filled and uncompromising public presentation about the LGBT and “comprehensive sexuality” agenda in the local elementary schools. It took place before an overflow crowd at the Pleasant Hill Library in Austin.

Titled, “Sexual Indoctrination in the Public Schools,” the presentation included a lot of startling information that the public hadn’t seen before. Much of that came from a large cache of documents from the Austin Independent School District (AISD) obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. It revealed that the LGBT and “comprehensive sexuality” agenda in the local elementary schools is worse than anyone had realized.

The presentation also included a well-researched description of where these programs came from and how they are getting into the public schools.

As we previously reported, MassResistance-Texas parents were determined to inform the parents of Austin what is happening in their elementary schools – and help them take action. They’ve set up a website, Concerned Parents of Austin with some information.

To promote this meeting, the parents passed out hundreds of flyers in local neighborhoods. Local liberals and LGBT activists reacted with vitriol on social media and in the local press. It was no secret that they wanted to silence the parents by demonizing and intimidating them. But the parents were undeterred.

Over 60 people came and filled the room in the library. The local parents who came were stunned by what they learned.

Among the things covered in the presentation:

• The radical national LGBT groups which the FOIA request revealed that the school is collaborating with.
• The “Welcoming Schools” program (from Human Rights Campaign) instructs teachers to integrate the LGBT propaganda throughout the classroom experience. It’s also channeled through various clubs, anti-bullying programs, “respect” programs, and other activities.
• The local school district has laid out plans to implement “comprehensive sex education” into the youngest grades starting next year. As part of this, explicit and graphic terms and concepts will be introduced to young children.
• The school purposefully intends to make it very cumbersome for parents to exclude their children from these programs.
• The plans also include putting specialized children’s books in the elementary school libraries – including books with pornographic sex pictures and descriptions, child-centered homosexual themes, transgender themes, and other LGBT propaganda. Teachers have been told to read these books to the children and encourage the children to check them out from the library.

• Elementary school teachers are being told by the principal not to use the terms “girl” and “boy” any more, in order to be more inclusive to the LGBT ideology.
• The Austin schools are inviting children to attend and even participate in the local adult “gay pride” activities.
• The Texas age of consent laws are  undermined by the explicit sexuality programs. (In fact, these laws may soon be formally challenged by the education lobby.)
• How the programs get into school districts across Texas: Each district has an appointed “School Health Advisory Council” (SHAC) that is supposed to include parents reflecting the community’s values. But the LGBT and sexuality special interests have been quietly getting their own people onto the SHACs. In addition, the radicals have found methods to circumvent the SHACs completely with their programs.
• Texas school districts started out with abstinence-only programs. But they have now been systematically replaced by LGBT and comprehensive sex-ed programs.
• The sexuality movement in America – its beliefs, language, and values – has been heavily influenced by Alfred Kinsey and other deviant thinkers (and their fraudulent research). Kinsey even conducted sexual experiments on infants. Those radical and destructive ideas have now been brought into the nation’s schools.
  
  
• A core belief of the sexuality movement is that children should be introduced as young as possible to sexual issues and sexual (and homosexual) behavior, even if parents object.
• Children’s developing bodies and minds are completely unsuited to the “comprehensive sex education” message being given to them.
• The introduction of “comprehensive sex education” to children has had very serious widespread consequences: STDs, emotional trauma, psychological issues, etc.

This destructive movement has virtually nothing to do with “helping” children. The special interests and dishonest school officials who are pushing these things into the elementary schools really don’t care and don’t want to be bothered thinking about the consequences it brings. It’s all about their own personal, political, and economic benefits. They see parents’ concerns as simply problems to deal with. That’s why it’s so difficult for parents to confront this horror individually.

LGBT activists come to disrupt the meeting

The local LGBT activists were angry that parents were challenging their control in the schools. They are determined that their programs continue to be pushed in the elementary schools no matter what parents want. As they do almost everywhere else, they wanted to keep the parents’ message from being heard. But this time it didn’t quite work out that way.

The meeting might have easily been disrupted and even shut down early on. About a third of the attendees who came into the room were obvious LGBT activists (and more gathered outside in the hallway). They strategically spread themselves throughout the audience.

They were rude and hostile. They did their best to intimidate the presenters and other attendees by interrupting and making hostile and misleading statements and comments. They tried to interrupt by giggling, snorting, and heckling. At the question and answer session, they pushed to ask most of the questions.

It was quite a spectacle. It also reveals the anger, self-centeredness, and emotional immaturity that the LGBT movement is known for. As we’ve observed before, it was like dealing with dysfunctional children.

Nevertheless, they weren’t able to derail the meeting. The library security people had called in several uniformed police officers. And whenever the activists started their disruptions, MassResistance-Texas leader Dr. Robert Oscar Lopez boldly took charge and threatened to have them ejected.

And through all of this, the mothers were not intimidated and did not back down. And the local parents who came for information were clearly glad they were there.

Several uniformed police were on hand to make sure the LGBT activists couldn't stop the presentation, as they had intended.

After the meeting, the attacks continued online and in local media

Not surprisingly, the LGBT activists took to the Internet and local media to continue to try to discredit and demonize the parents and their work. It’s eerie how much energy they put into that. But it didn’t matter, really. It only helped get the parents’ message out even more!

Not Concerned Parents of Austin: “Protecting our children from the consequences of ignorance”  This is the LGBT activists’ copycat website aping the Concerned Parents of Austin. It’s mostly propaganda and disinformation about sex and children.

This site is another LGBT activist site, but attempts to explain why the horrific LGBT programs in the Austin schools are actually “good” for children. It’s apparently done in collaboration with school officials.

Austin Chronicle: AISD's "Concerned Parents" Rail Against LGBTQ Inclusivity. Religious extremists against comprehensive sex ed and Welcoming Schools program. This is simply a vicious attack on the parents, full of distortions and untruths. The Left’s “fake news” train is moving forward!

KVUE-TV: Parent group holds meeting for families to opt out of AISD sex ed program. This is probably the least overtly biased. But it still gives a big chunk of time to the LGBT side. (The TV station would never give our side any air time if the situation were reversed.)

All of this reveals a lot more about them than about us.

The parents did not back away from the awful truth about the health hazards of homosexual behavior, as documented in the latest MassResistance book, which schools refuse to talk about. Of course, this angered the LGBT activists who don't want this discussed at all.

Overall: A great job by the parents!

These Texas-MassResistance parents are really outstanding! This was one of the most powerful and informative public presentations we’ve ever seen! And they’re not stopping. They plan to expand it and replicate it across Texas.

The fact that the LGBT movement considers this so dangerous tells us all that this must be continued!

Success! Missouri MassResistance Defeats Pro-LBGT Sex-Ed School Board Member's Re-Election Bid

How parents got their pro-sex-ed School Board Chairman defeated at election time! Had been top vote-getter in last two elections. MassResistance Missouri Chapter makes a difference! May 28, 2017 School Board Chairman Chris Jacob announces that he refuses to have the Board re-vote on the controversial "comprehensive sexuality" curriculum -- to the cheers of LGBT activists in the audience. As a result of parent outrage, he was subsequently defeated in his bid for re-election to the Board. Politicians don't always take note if you help get someone elected. But they really notice if you help get someone defeated - especially when it's a prominent official! After nearly three years of bitter confrontation between a rabid pro-sex-ed School Board and outraged parents (led by our MassResistance Missouri chapter), Board Chairman Chris Jacob of the Parkway School District in suburban St. Louis suffered a shocking defeat in his bid for re-election last month. In the April 4 election, there were eleven candidates running for three School Board seats. Jacob came in sixth with only 8.97% of the vote, and lost his seat on the Board. It was a huge defeat. In the 2014 election, Jacob had come in first with 23.7%, In 2011 he also came in first with 26.2%. The issue: A hardcore "comprehensive sexuality" curriculum Back in 2014, the Parkway School District staff began compiling a "comprehensive sexuality" curriculum for the entire K-12 student body. It immediately raised red flags among parents. Portions of it were announced that seemed very graphic and explicit, and were linked to radical sexuality and LGBT and abortion groups. However, the school officials were very hostile and uncooperative with the concerned parents who wanted more information about it. In particular, it became clear that the curriculum included fairly extensive abortion counseling for young girls. It is against Missouri law to include anything related to abortion in a school curriculum. The officials didn't seem to care. This really riled parents. After being stonewalled by school staff, parents began to question the Parkway School Board about the very disturbing things they were seeing in the curriculum. But they still did not get any answers. The parents were not subtle in their outrage. But the officials continued to ignore them.. School Board votes to implement entire curriculum - and refuses to re-consider Then on March 9, 2016, Parkway School Board shocked parents by voting to implement it in its entirely. Parents were outraged. Board Chairman Chris Jacob had originally opposed it, but soon after the vote he completely changed sides. He suddenly strongly supported it and became hostile to those who disagreed with it. But the parents refused to give up. A growing group of MassResistance-Missouri parents continued to come to the School Board meetings and bring up all of the troubling issues. The parents demanded a re-vote on the curriculum. But Chris Jacob and the other Board members refused to even meet with them to discuss it. Keeping up the pressure. Parents at Aug. 3 School Board meeting were demanding the resignation of Dr. Keith Marty, the Superintendent and the force behind the comprehensive sexuality program, unless the Board agreed to re-vote on it. However, by August, there were rumors that the Board might consider a re-vote. On Aug. 24, 2016, local LGBT activists came to the School Board meeting, clearly angry that a re-vote might happen. At the beginning of that meeting Chairman Chris Jacob placated them bu publicly announcing that the original vote would stand and the Board was not considering taking a re-vote on the comprehensive sexuality program. That was followed by a long period of loud clapping by the LGBT group. Since then, Jacob and the Board have refused to budge an inch. Adult LGBT activists came to the School Board meeting on Aug. 24 to intimidate the Board members into keeping the comprehensive sexuality curriculum in place -- and no re-voting. And the Board appeased them. Then came the School Board elections … The April 4, 2017, Parkway School Board election was a very heated contest. There were 11 candidates, including two incumbents, running for the three seats up for election. The liberal establishment, teachers' union, and sex-ed/LGBT/abortion lobbies all wanted to solidify their control of the school system. The sex-ed/LGBT/abortion lobby formed called "Parents Moving Parkway Forward." They endorsed three candidates, raised money, and organized to get them elected. The teachers' union also endorsed three candidates, including Jacob and the other incumbent. They did not want the pro-family people to gain anything. But that's not quite how things turned out! The sex-ed/LGBT/abortion lobby mailed this out, supporting their slate of candidates. The pro-family parents took a different approach But our side took a different approach. A parents group called Missouri Advocates for Education Transparency and Accountability (AETA), put together a simple but powerful "report card" on the school committee candidates. Some candidates got all A's. School Board Chairman Chris Jacob got a straight F rating. AETA did a mass mailing in the district. MassResistance-Missouri emailed the report card to their vast network of conservatives, went door-to-door in the district with it, and stood at polling places with it on election day. The report card really resonated with voters! There was a lot of buzz about it throughout the district. It was clear and easy to understand. As one local parent said, "Without MassResistance-Missouri being a beacon of truth telling, parents in the district would not have been alerted to this." And here's what happened The April 4 election had the highest voter turnout in many years. When the smoke cleared, two of the three teachers' union candidates (including Jacob) were defeated.
