The Pathway Forward for Constitutional Carry

 

As of May 2026, twenty-nine states have enacted Constitutional Carry.

What about across the rest of the country? The movement has stalled, since red states with GOP trifectas have all gotten the job done. Constitutional Carry’s advance has paused since South Carolina finally approved the reform on March 7, 2024. Of course, we shouldn’t give a round of applause to the Palmetto State, since the long-lasting legacy of RINOs did everything they could to thwart meaningful, conservative turn rights reforms. But they did get the job done.

Nothing has budged since. Republicans are facing progressive backlash in other states, as expected since Trump got the top job a second time in 2024. Democrats are hard-pressed to stop this reform from advancing, and in the Rust Belt States, the last time they had Republican trifectas, the respective parties made some moves for gun rights liberation, but nothing along the lines of constitutional carry.

Where can gun rights activists expect the move for Second Amendment freedom?

I was really gunning for Virginia to join the Constitutional Carry club post 2025. That dream turned into a nightmare when Democrats not only swept all three statewide offices, but also expanded their legislative majority in the Virginia House of Delegates to near supermajority levels!

And now look what’s happening in Virginia: twenty-five gun control bills have blasted out of the legislature, including limits on the right to carry publicly, limitations on where one can carry, and even barring 18to 20 year-olds from carrying a firearm! The gun-rights movement was hoping that the Mother of Presidents would join the constitutional carry club. Sadly, that is not to be for the foreseeable future. Republicans must expose these draconian measures and scare gun owners and Second Amendment advocates to the polls.

North Carolina remains on the cusp of constitutional carry. The main obstacle is a matter of overriding the Governor’s veto. The Republican-dominated legislature passed SB 50, but Democratic Governor Stein vetoed the bill. He will pay lip service to public safety but refuses to enact the one key reform that will ensure it. Fortunately, the state senate overrode the veto.

Now the North Carolina House has to step up.

The Republicans in that chamber are just one vote shy of a three-fifths veto-proof majority. Of course, there are plenty of RINOs in the midst who are covertly hostile to gun freedom. At least thirteen of them bailed on the initial vote for the legislation last year. Election season is here, though, and those stay-aways have to step up and vote for the constitutional carry override if they want to get re-elected in 2026. Add to this dynamic the fact that some left-over former Democrat House Reps have ditched their crazy-woke party. GOP Leadership should reach out to them and offer them a legislative deal for their votes to get constitutional carry across the finish line. Second Amendment advocates, let’s cross our fingers for the Tar Heel State!

Does constitutional carry have a chance in any other legislative chamber this year?

The Pennsylvania state legislature passed the reform in 2022, but then Democratic Governor Tom Wolf vetoed it, and there weren’t enough votes for an override. Then came Election 2022, and Democrats took the House (by a slim margin) and the governor’s mansion, as well.

The state senate is still controlled by Republicans. As of May 6, 2026, the Pennsylvania State Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced its own version, even though the rest of the state went blue in 2022. Election 2026 is not looking much better for Republicans to gain a GOP trifecta for the next legislative session. They could win back the Pennsylvania House, but Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro maintains a strange popularity across the state, although GOP State Treasurer Stacy Garrity will give him a run for his money. She will campaign and win in 2030, and if Republican legislators are still in control, constitutional carry could come in 2031.

Wisconsin Republicans still control the state legislature, but Democratic Governor Tony Evers has resisted expansion of gun rights. HB 609 was introduced last year to enact constitutional carry, but it has gone nowhere since. Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany has a chance to become the next governor, since Evers declined to run again. If a wannabe Bernie Sanders candidate wins the Democratic nomination, Wisconsin may restore its GOP trifecta. Dairy State lawmakers must make constitutional carry a priority in 2027.

Will Michigan get back on track to restore and expand gun rights? Democrats control the Governor’s mansion in Lansing and the Michigan state senate. House Republicans have introduced their own constitutional carry bill, which could pass the lower chamber this year, preparing for a better environment after Election 2026.

Michigan may witness another 2010-style Tea Party wave, with Republicans washing back into power. The Democratic frontrunner for US Senate, former public health director Abdul El-Sayed, is a terrorist sympathizer. He is running against a state-wide tested and Trump-endorsed candidate, Mike Rogers, who nearly toppled Elissa Slotkin in 2024. He is the 2026 version of Pennsylvania’s Dave McCormick.

Republicans already face a favored field, since Democrats are split over the governor’s race. Democrat-turned-Independent and former Detroit mayor Mike Duggan was hurting the Democratic vote, but he ended up dropping out of the race. Still, Republican gubernatorial candidate John James is reaching out to him for support. He was pulling support from both parties, but his exit may help Republicans. The GOP took back the House of Representatives in 2024, and they are two seats shy of winning back the majority in the state senate.

With Rogers pulling off a US Senate win in the Wolverine State, he can pull up the rest of the Michigan GOP ticket for Election 2026. A GOP trifecta in Michigan must make it their priority to enact constitutional carry – then repeal the red flag laws and gun-free zones enacted under Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s (aka Gretch the Witch) Democrat trifecta!

What about Minnesota? Trump was within striking distance of winning the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes in 2016, then his numbers sagged in 2020, then perked up again in 2024 (but not as close as his first run). The Democratic brand is in trouble since Somali voter fraud has stirred up the state, but will it be enough?

Election 2026 can be the “Constitutional Carry” year if Republicans make their case. They need to drive home the dangers of a Democratic resurgence to power. Just look at Virginia and what Minnesota tried to do earlier this month! The Marxist Democratic Party wants to take the guns away, folks, and they are not shy about their intentions this time around.

So, what is the future for carrying constitutionally in the United States?

North Carolina is very close.

Michigan and Wisconsin could be joining the club, provided that Republican statewide candidates win big and bring up their state legislatures. Nevada is still dealing with large Democratic majorities in the legislature, and the Republican governor Joe Lombardo opposes constitutional carry. Minnesota remains a long shot. The rest are Democratic hellholes that have declared war on law-abiding gun owners.

Following the most ideal outcomes, three more states will join the Constitutional Carry club in the next year.

My wife Cindy and I spent last weekend in Los Angeles with North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson and his wife Yolanda. As a quick reminder, we hosted 13 North Carolina pastors’ luncheons across the state featuring the Lt. Governor in 2021. 2,700 NC pastors and spiritual leaders participated. Of the 50 NC pastors and spiritual leaders who on May 17, 2022, ran for local office across the state, 25 won their primary, meaning that 25 will be on the November 8 ballot.   We are planning to organize another round of NC pastors’ luncheons in 2023, in order to recruit an additional 50, or even 75 North Carolina pastors and spiritual leaders to run for local office in 2024. This obviously will provide the best and most direct counterweight to cultic secularism’s heavy-handed manipulation of American culture and society.   A Christian counterweight is urgently needed. As Baptist theologian James Robert White expresses it: “History teaches us that enduring works of Christian insight flow forth from times of persecution and attack. As secularism rushes toward its inevitable totalitarian solutions, Christians need to think deeply concerning the issues that now confront us.”1   Cultural theologian and Christian apologist Dr. Joseph Boot latest book, Ruler of Kings: Toward a Christian Vision of Government, calls attention to the threat to freedom: “The current reality of the Church’s submission in the West to the cult of the State [with its] surrender to unprecedented lockdowns and illegal interference in church gathering, the collapse of civil liberties, the total control of education, expanded abortion, euthanasia, no-fault divorce law, the definition of marriage and family, homosexuality, and transgender issues [is clear].   “Because of the steady triumph of pagan humanism in the West, the modern world has seen the re-emergence of many archaic oddities, one of which is a self-anointed elite class - the intelligentsia - a secular substitute for pastor and priest.”2   To reinforce this point, a simple reading of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 shall be a boon for those obedient and a bane for those disobedient to God’s law and the covenant relationship with Him:   • You shall have no other Gods before me. • You shall not make for yourselves an idol. • You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. • Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. • Honor your father and your mother. • You shall not murder. • You shall not commit adultery. • You shall not steal. • You shall not give false testimony. • You shall not covet.

In 1980, the U.S. Supreme Court removed the Ten Commandments from public schools, courthouses, and government buildings in Stone v. Graham. In a 5-to-4 per curiam decision, the Court found that the requirement that the Ten Commandments be posted “had no secular legislative purpose” and was “plainly religious in nature.” The Court noted that the Commandments did not confine themselves to arguably secular matters [such as murder, stealing, etc.], but rather concerned matters such as the worship of God and the observance of the Sabbath Day.3   The ruling tied in with an earlier decision in the 1963 Abington School District v. Schempp case, in which an 8 to 1 vote led to the removal of the Bible from public education. The U.S. Supreme Court thereby established secularism as America’s official religion, based on the calculated but improvident view of secularism as being “neutral” and “non-religious”. Justice Potter Stewart [1915-1985] was the only one not fooled by the argument, rightfully asserting that the decision did not lead “to true neutrality with respect to religion, but to the establishment of a religion of secularism.”   The calamitous outcome of the secular religious creed of man as his own god and moral arbiter by now is clearly visible in present-day America’s steep moral decline and its wholesale diversity of perversity. Nihilism and hedonism set the discordant tone in today’s nation.   At the time when it still was One Nation [for each and every person] Under God, early America belonged to Christ alone. This will be confirmed by studying the state Charters and Constitutions of the original 13 colonies: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland ... as they established a Christian nation throughout the 17th and 18th century.

It entails a new model for apostolic leadership, where pioneers develop a multitude of leaders instead of merely feeding flocks of sheep. What exactly is she doing to combat the censorship? And why has she stepped away from activism to report?

It's simple: she has revealed her true colors as one more grifter on the right. It's not about making the country better, or fighting the cultural marxist evil. It was all about giving herself a profile, going to all the  nice conferences, making lots of money, and then doing nothing else about it.

It's really frustrating, too, because our Texas MassResistance chapter chair, Tracy Shannon, worked very hard with other activists in the Houston area to shut down Drag Queen Story Hour, and Activist Mommy (when she was still willing to call herself that) fundraised off of that effort!

It's really a problem in our culture. It's a bigger problem with conservatives and pro-family activists, because so many of these larger names and headline groups are interested only in access, photo-ops, big conferences, and heavy fundraising. That's it.

Everyday citizens who want to fight the culture war need to start asking serious questions when they donate to a group or follow a group online. Many of the dissident Right voices on social media are calling out Conservative Inc. But even that is turning into another grift. Nothing is changing in the streets and in the minds of American citizens. Nothing is going to get better of conservatives in particular and citizens in general don't start asking more serious questions and demand serious action and activism from the groups that claim to want to help them.

Activist Mommy is no longer an activist mommy, according to her blog and her website network. But let's cut the crap: she never really was an activist to begin with. It was all about the money in the first place, and there is no way that a now-divorced mother of ten could be writing all those articles herself anyway. One more grifter has been pushed through the sifter.

Equality NC Meeting Push-Back in the Tar Heel State

What's happening in North Carolina since the Republican incumbent Pat McCrory was forced out of office simply for protecting the basic genetic realities of life?

The North Carolina State Legislature is still dominated by Republicans, but many of them have felt the sting of standing up for life and family and they didn't get much support for doing so.

Will they fight to ensure that men and women stay in their proper facilities?

After HB2 repeal 'fail,' LGBTQ group calls out supporters -including Democrats

Some North Carolina lawmakers will enter the elections this year without an endorsement from a prominent rights groups that supported them previously.

Homosexuality and transgenderism are not rights. We need to confront these lies head on. Most Republicans simply refuse to do this!

Every seat in the Republican-controlled NC House and Senate is up for election this year.

That is strange. Normally, elected officials hold state senate seats for a longer period and they rotate in different terms.

Equality N.C., the largest and oldest LGBTQ rights advocacy group in the state, announced Tuesday that it won't support legislators who voted for the bill repealing the controversial bathroom bill known as HB2. The repeal bill lifted laws prohibiting transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice, but it blocked cities and counties from enacting policies that might protect the LGBTQ community from discrimination.

HB 2 was good legislation, big Big Business threatened these states, and the elected officials chickened out and caved in. This is beyond terrible.

Thus, the Equality NC said, those who voted for it failed to represent the group's values. So it won't endorse them.

Notice how hard-core and uncompromising the bullying LGBT lobby is. They don't take "No" for an answer. They don't settle for compromise. They don't take whatever wins they have achieved. They double down and demand that they get away with more.

The fact that the bathroom bill repeal is not enough should be proof positive that it's not enough to talk about privacy. It's time to educate people without compromise that transgenderism is a mental disorder, not a civil right. Period.

“Today, we are making it clear: LGBTQ North Carolinians will not stand for politicians who campaign on our issues, but fail to follow through on their promises to us," Matt Hirschy, Equality NC Interim Executive Director, said in a statement.

Let's hope that their backing away from supporting Democratic politicians will help better Republicans get elected to office

"A decision we did not make lightly — but one that had to be made to uphold the integrity and mission of our organization," he said.

Historically, Equality NC mostly endorses Democrats. But it's unclear who lost support from the group.

The Democratic Party has to keeping go so far left to catch up with all the wily interest groups which have hijacked the party. Who is paying for this unbiblical insanity?

Equality NC didn't identify which candidates it has previously endorsed. But its list of endorsements for the 2018 primaries shows they are opposing some incumbents.

Equality NC endorsed Allison Dahle in her race against Democratic Rep. Duane Hall in House District 11. In District 43, the group endorsed Prince Christian over Democratic Rep. Elmer Floyd. It's also supporting Mujtaba Mohammed in his race against Sen. Joel Ford.

Nearly 40 Democrats in the legislature supported the HB2 repeal bill, including 30 Democrats in the House and nine in the Senate. Minority leaders Darren Jackson in the House and Dan Blue in the Senate are among the Democrats who supported the bill.

Will this Democratic fratricide help the Republicans? Let's hope so.

Leslie Rudd, a spokeswoman for Blue, said all Democratic state senators supported a full repeal. But that wasn't on the table, she said, so they voted for House Bill 142 "knowing that the fight for equal rights is not over in North Carolina."

“We understand and respect Equality NC’s position on this issue; the decision to vote for House Bill 142 was not one that our members made lightly," Rudd wrote in an email.

“Every single Democratic senator that voted for House Bill 142 had previously sponsored legislation to repeal House Bill 2 and/or expand protections for gender identity and sexual orientation at the state level," she said. “It is important for all voters that value equality to consider their legislator’s vote on House Bill 142; as well as their full legislative track record on LGBTQ rights."

Final Reflection

The Big Gay Hate Machine will never be happy until everyone respects, reverse, and bows down to their agenda in full.

Conservatives need to wake up and accept the fact that this anti-reality interest group is not out to play for the middle. They want everything their way, or they will fight and destroy whatever gets in their way to achieve those ends.

We need to stand strong for biological reality and biblical truth at all costs. North Carolinians need to wake up and do what is right for their children, for their country, and for their constitutional rights.

Lessons from the defeat of "gay marriage" in North Carolina

The stunning 61-39 percent victory for real marriage in North Carolina -- making it the 32nd state to ban "gay marriage" at the polls -- sent a clear message: Every time Americans vote on "gay marriage" it gets defeated. (Thirty-one states have voted for constitutional amendments on marriage. One state, Maine, voted to reverse a "gay marriage" law passed by their legislature.)

This major NC pro-family website (like many others) also linked to MassResistance's pamphlet "What same-sex "marriage" has done to Massachusetts."  Many activists have thanked us for that!

The polls had shown strong support for the amendment. But because Barack Obama won North Carolina in 2008, and the Democrats felt so confident that they scheduled this summer's national convention in Charlotte, the homosexual movement was emboldened to launch an enormous campaign to defeat it. They also got a boost from squishy RINOs who opposed the amendment because of its principled wording.

New strategy of dishonesty by homosexual groups against amendment

The pro-homosexual groups raised nearly 70% more money -- a million dollars -- than the pro-family groups. The mainstream news media was uniformly and aggressively against the amendment. And celebrities like Bill Clinton were doing robo-calls to defeat the measure.

The homosexual lobby took a different approach in North Carolina than we've seen before. Usually they talk tirelessly about "loving gay families," "civil rights," "equal protection," and the like. But this time they took a "scorched earth" approach against the amendment itself by inventing a flood of horrific but patently false reasons why the amendment would be destructive for families in general. They said it will cause suicides by "gay" children, women would be discriminated against, domestic violence victims and senior citizens would be hurt, etc. And they portrayed their side as "pro-family" -- that they were protecting families from a destructive bill.

In fact, none of the things they were warning about have happened in any of the states that passed nearly identical marriage amendments.

It was an extremely devious and deceptive strategy, and they went all out pushing it with media advertising saturating the entire state. Even for a largely religious state like North Carolina it was a daunting onslaught.

Squishy pro-gay "conservatives" opposed the strong NC amendment

The wording of the Marriage Amendment is unequivocally "one man and one woman" and does not compromise for political correctness. The amendment bans civil unions, domestic partnerships, or similar phony "marriage" constructs. Here's the wording they voted on:

Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts.

As we've seen across the country, squishy pro-gay RINO "conservatives" insist on marriage-like "rights" for homosexuals and actually opposed this amendment.

For example, two nationally prominent "pro-traditional marriage" spokesmen David Blankenhorn and Elizabeth Marquardt published an article againstthe amendment in the Raleigh newspaper. Posing as conservatives, they said,

"We are native southerners and we oppose legalizing same-sex marriage. . . But as marriage advocates, we oppose the state marriage amendment now being debated in North Carolina. We hope that when North Carolinians go to the polls on May 8 they will defeat this measure. The proposed amendment states that "marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state." That's a big mouthful, and it goes well beyond the issue of same-sex marriage.

"For one thing, it means that North Carolina could not, now or ever, take any step or devise any policy to extend legal recognition and protection to same-sex couples. No domestic partnership laws. No civil unions. Nothing."

In other words, they are saying that it's fine for the state to force citizens to legally recognize homosexuality and homosexual relationships as legitimate. They just want to protect the word "marriage."

In addition, they'll often claim (without statistical justification) that a "strong" amendment is much harder to pass than a "soft" amendment which allows marriage-like "rights."

Mitt Romney declined to endorse the North Carolina Marriage Amendment, though he didn't give a reason. The media never pressed him on the issue. However, he refused to endorse a nearly identical "strong" Massachusetts amendment in 2002 because, he told the press, it did not allow for homosexual domestic partnerships. In 2004-2005, Gov. Romney lobbied Republican state legislators for a proposed amendment which would have embedded "civil unions" identical to marriage in the state constitution! (That proposal was later voted down.) Then in 2005, Romney endorsed a "soft" marriage amendment in Massachusetts (VoteOnMarriage) which allowed domestic partnerships and civil unions, and would have allowed previous "gay marriages" to stand. (That proposal was also later defeated by the Legislature in 2007.)

Unfortunately, this kind of RINO rhetoric tends to demean conservatives who understand the destructive nature of homosexuality and its related behaviors, and diminish the marriage argument in general. For homosexual activists, civil unions are seen as a sometimes required stepping stone to full-fledged "gay marriage" recognition.

Pro-family grassroots energy not bottled up by political correctnes

Luckily, the pro-family movement put up a strong fight of its own. And it was an interesting dichotomy. Our friend Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality, spent a month in North Carolina prior to the election working full time helping mobilize people. He shared some of his observations with us. An important factor was the makeup of the pro-family coalition on the ground. He said that there were two major factions on our side, both of which played important roles.

(1) The mainstream pro-family establishment raised money, gathered political endorsements, promoted the Marriage Amendment, and was generally the public face of the effort. But more important, they produced ads to counter the incredible stream of outrageous lies about the Marriage Amendment that the opposition flooded the airways with.

But like in so many other states, the North Carolina pro-family establishment did not want to talk about homosexuality or homosexual behavior -- only about the word "marriage" and platitudes like "every child needing a mother and father." They insisted on that strategy. But luckily they were completely unable to enforce it among the larger coalition of groups and churches.

(2) The heavy lifting on the ground was done by the churches, both black and white, which played an outstanding role in organizing, energizing, and mobilizing people across the state on this issue. They put an enormous amount of effort into making sure people understood how important this was, and got as many people to the polls as possible.

But in particular, the churches were directly and unapologetically willing to take on the issue of homosexual behavior. The churches refused to be constrained by any "approved talking points" which the mainstream groups tried to impose. The black churches, especially, had no interest in being "politically correct." This helped energize many, many people who might have otherwise not bothered to care about the issue or get involved. 

One black pastor who put in enormous energy (and with whom Peter LaBarbera worked with) is Pastor P.L. Wooden of Raleigh. Pastor Wooden went all over the state debating, evangelizing, and discussing the Marriage Amendment. He was uncompromising in his positions and his discussions of the destructive nature of homosexuality and what it brings to society. Pastor Wooden and very well received wherever he went. It was churchmen like him -- both black and white -- who really carried the day for this amendment. Their points really resonated with people, as opposed to the "sanitized" marriage talking points.

Lessons to remember:

1. Be prepared for a "scorched earth" strategy by the homosexual lobby. Be ready for a flood of very emotional but extremely dishonest claims of how a ban on "gay marriage" or the legal codifying of homosexual relationships will ruin civilization as we know it -- as the homosexual lobby portrays itself as the true "pro-family" movement. 
2. Don't allow subversion by pro-gay "conservatives." There is a growing threat to the pro-family movement from so-called conservatives who support the concept of homosexual behavior being part of our legal system, and want to protect only the word "marriage". (Unfortunately, this includes presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney and much of the pro-family establishment across the country.)
3. It's ultimately about the behavior. "Telling it like it is" and not caving into political correctness are of paramount importance in these kinds of elections. Platitudes alone do not communicate effectively. "Gay marriage" is ultimately about homosexuality and the homosexual movement -- NOT the word "marriage".

May 21, 2017 Friends,   As a child, I was always taught to look for a police officer if I was ever in trouble. I knew that no matter what, I could rely on them and they would try to help me. Now that I’m a father, I am teaching my son Lane the exact same thing – trust and respect the men and women in uniform who serve. Every day, our law enforcement officers leave their homes and put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe and enforce our laws; we are so fortunate to have them protecting us. At a time when the law enforcement community is too often targeted by unfair rhetoric and even violence, we must never take for granted their service.   This past week, I had the chance to recognize the men and women in blue who serve our communities as part of National Police Week. This tradition began in 1962 as a way to honor those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. In honor of National Police Week, the House of Representatives passed several pieces of legislation designed to ensure these brave men and women have the tools they need to do their jobs, keep the public safe, and safely return home to their families.     As your Congressman, I was proud to support seven different pieces of legislation that will strengthen our ability to protect everyday Americans as well as make good on our promises to provide benefits to those in law enforcement and their families. These bills will help strengthen police capabilities to protect the public by delivering timely resources and streamlining procedures. I also voted to take steps to make sure our promises are kept to police families.One such bill, the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Improvement Act, will reduce inefficiencies to help public safety officers and their loved ones get the death and disability benefits they have rightfully earned throughout their service.   Additionally, I continued my efforts to be the voice of our nation’s veterans. Too often we hear stories of hardworking veterans struggling to find quality work after ending their career in the military. To help address this, the American Law Enforcement Heroes Act provides an incentive for the hiring of veterans as police officers.   Across the district, I have heard from many of you about your concerns with violence across the country – especially efforts to harm police officers. The idea that someone would target a police officer based simply on the uniform they wear is inconceivable. To discourage such a horrendous act, I voted for the Thin Blue Line Act. This legislation sends the firm and absolute message that attacks against those who serve our communities – law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders – will not be tolerated.     I’ve always believed that our communities are stronger when we can come together and find common ground. From making sure our roads are safe to extending a helping hand for those in need, police officers enable us to live productive lives free of fear. We must never take for granted the services provided to us by police as well as other first responders.   I am thankful for all those who have answered the call to serve and protect, and I look forward to continuing my work alongside them to build a better future for all North Carolinians.      Until next week, Richard Hudson

US Senator Thom Tillis' Amnesty Scam: "Legal Status"

I put my money where my mouth is,

When I found that US Senator Thom Tillis was experimenting with amnesty in league with border security and enforcement of our laws.

Here's the report from Breitbart, blasting Tillis' proposed scheme:

Leading immigration experts say Sen. Thom Tillis’ (R-NC) latest push for amnesty ignores President Donald Trump’s mandate for cracking down on illegal immigration.

While Tillis’ legislation would increase border security, it would also grant amnesty, a type of immigration reform measure that Democrats have been demanding since the 1990s, as Breitbart Texas reported.

I called Tillis' office this morning.

The staffer put off my concerns about amnesty by telling me that Senator Tillis does not support amnesty.

He wants to grant "legal status" to illegal aliens in our country.

That is amnesty.

They are allowed to stay in the country, and do not have to fear deportation.

The argument that follows is that these illegal aliens will not be able to vote, and they will not have the other privileges which come with citizenship.

That will not last long.

This argument for legal status will create a more balkanized America, where residents with "legal status" will have no incentive to assimilate into the American culture. They can't become citizens, and they have even less of an incentive to leave the country and return to their home countries.

Legal status is even worse than granting full amnesty--and full amnesty is bad to the open border.

There is one legal status: citizenship.

There is one rule of law.

Our elected officials need to understand this, or they need to resign from office right now.

Contact US Senator Tillis and demand that he enforce our laws, and stop playing with amnesty:

Dope GOPe Tillis Still Pushing Amnesty. Why?

Thom Tillis was just elected to the United States Senate in 2014.

It was an epic year for Republicans across the country, even in California, where the epic low turnout worked in our favor, and brought four Republicans into the state assembly.

Thom Tillis had served as the Speaker of the North Carolina State House. He faced a pretty tough battle to win, even though North Carolina has traditionally been a red state, or at least a conservative one. Now the Tar Heel State has appeared more recently as a battleground.

Trump made numerous visits there. The previous governor, Pat McCrory, had served as the mayor of the urban Charlotte. He also tried to stay away from the contentious cultural issues. He voted legislation which would allow judges the freedom of conscience not to officiate a same-sex wedding. The supermajority Republican legislature overrode his veto.

When it came to protecting women and children, and not accommodating the transgender insanity in public bathrooms and restrooms, McCrory chose to sign.

The whole point about bringing this information is to show how North Carolina is turning into the contentious battleground for all issues. Illegal immigration has featured prominently in this state, but at least McCrory signed off on legislation banning sanctuary cities in North Carolina.

It seems like Tillis needs to read that memo.

A Republican senator is trying to break years of congressional gridlock over immigration with a new plan that would pair changes sought by Democrats with those pushed by his own party.

At a time when President Donald Trump’s promise to build a wall along the southern border is dominating the immigration discussion, Sen. Thom Tillis (R., N.C.) has been talking with a handful of Democrats and Republicans to build support for a broader overhaul. His plan would aim to tighten border security and toughen enforcement of immigration laws—goals often cited by Republicans—while addressing the fate of the roughly 11 million immigrants currently in the U.S. illegally, a Democratic priority.

For Democrats, “this may be one issue where they’re as tired as I am of seeing the parades and not getting to the game,” said Mr. Tillis, who was elected to the Senate in 2014, after the last big Senate immigration debate.

The basic elements of immigration legislation have been known for many years, but the parties haven’t been able to agree on how to enact legislation. Democrats and some Senate Republicans have favored comprehensive legislation that incorporates a wide range of ideas, each appealing to different constituencies. House Republicans have wanted to pass enforcement legislation first and then, at some point in the future, overhaul the legal immigration system and then deal with the people in the U.S. illegally.

What is different about the Tillis approach is that it tackles the issue incrementally—but at every step gives each party something that it wants.

Tillis insists on trying to pass something that will get votes from Democrats.

Don't these people understand that Democratic party leaders and elected officials want amnesty because they want the votes. Even Chris Matthews gets that. Once in a while, the MSNBC screwball speaks some truth, especially about the needs and concerns of working class people in the United States.

Illegal immigration hurts Middle America. Even STEM students and professionals should worry about illegal immigration, since more imported workers--legally or illegally--or cutting into their wages and cutting them out of jobs.

What is going on with this guy and others like him? Why are they so determined to pass some kind of amnesty?

Mr. Tillis is in the early stages of developing his framework, and it isn’t yet clear how much support it would garner from either side of the aisle. It also is unclear whether the White House would go along, as Mr. Trump ran for office with a hard-line message of tougher enforcement and protection for American workers. Previous efforts to enact sweeping immigration changes with bipartisan support have fizzled, most recently in 2013.

The 2013 program fizzled in large part because they were based on false premises. More on that later.

Donald Trump ran on a program, a platform of enforcement. We don't need more misplaced compassion in this country. We had a grand amnesty in 1986. We got shot in the foot, stabbed in the back by the DC two-step. No more.

This "framework" that Tillis is poring over. He might as well scrap the whole program. There are more conservative Republican lawmakers, at least five.

Not only that, but the Democratic Party caucus, which failed to secure the Senate Majority when they had the chance, has now tilted even more to the left. They are not interested in compromise. They want amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens. What will it take for Republicans to develop

Mr. Tillis would enact a comprehensive overhaul of immigration law in increments—but at every step giving each party something it wants. He said his plan is aimed at jump-starting discussions over the order in which to introduce changes to immigration policy so that proponents could secure the 60 votes most bills need to clear the Senate, where Republicans hold a 52-48 majority.

Once again, who cares what the Democratic Party wants? Or even what the Republican Party wants?

We the People are crying out for enforcement. It could not be more simple than that. This country has an enforcement problem, because the previous President has routinely ignored the rule of law and preferred illegal aliens over the needs of the citizens.

For instance, the first steps under Mr. Tillis’s proposal would tighten border security and deport any illegal immigrants engaged in criminal activities, while also providing some temporary legal status for people brought to the country illegally at a young age by their parents.

NO! Nothing about this legal status nonsense. No!

Once those two elements were in place, lawmakers could strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws through programs such as e-Verify, an online system companies use to check whether applicants are in the country legally. At the same time, lawmakers could address how to deal with the adult members of the illegal immigrant population.

At a later stage, lawmakers could focus on preventing people from overstaying their visa limits while overhauling some popular work-visa programs, including those for high-skilled foreign workers and low-skilled seasonal workers.

Why are US Senators obsessed with this incrementalism?

The argument from Republican lawmakers at this time is that they need Democratic votes to pass key legislation. True. But that should not be a carte blanche invitation to capitulate to Democratic demands on key concerns.

How about putting more pressure on the red state Democrats, of which there are at least 5.

Those US Senators are going to have to do everything in their power to stay in the good graces of the conservative base from which they were elected. Let's not forget that in 2012, when they were elected or re-elected, the Democratic turnout overshadowed the Republican turnout in large part because Romney was not a stellar candidate.

Republicans keep wanting to "work with" Democrats by embracing  some of their talking points. Their first point of departure needs to focus on doing what is best for the country.

Tillis and his fellow GOP-Establishment leaning colleagues don't want to fight. They want to go along with the flow and  make nice. They don't seem to understand that on key issues like immigration,, there is no middle ground anymore. We need border security and enforcement, and these issues should not rest on pitiful compromise.

It's time for heated pressure against the very Democrats who claim that they care about everyone. If Democrats continue to be exposed as the obstructions, they can prepare for a very bad 2018, where they lose as many as 10 more US Senate seats.
