MassResistance Statement to Downey City Council Following Neutral Flag Policy

My name is Arthur Schaper, and I am a proud member of MassResistance, the international pro-family group that makes the difference. My last name is “Schaper,” not “Sharp,” Mayor Trujillo, so get it right!

On behalf of our organization, including our many activists in the city of Downey and throughout Los Angeles County, we want to thank the city of Downey for doing the right thing by passing a neutral flag policy.

During the May 14th, 2024 city council meeting, Mayor Trujillo attacked Downey residents, including our activists here in the city, and called them a “hate group.” He tried to hide behind the so-called “Southern California Poverty Law Center.”

They are a law firm based in Anaheim, California, and they have not issued such a defamatory label against us. The fact is that Mayor Trujillo, who claims to be part of this whole “Love is Love” movement, was the one displaying hate.

He forced this pride flag onto the community, when Downey residents had spoken out against it three years ago. He and his corrupt, felonious crony Catherine Alvarez, were never interested in serving the entire Downey Community, but rather wanted to push their limited, hateful, dishonest LGBT agenda on the city.

Mayor Trujillo got two things right. The neutral flag policy was an attack on the pride flag, because there was an appropriate flag policy in place before he and his liberal colleagues insisted on forcing other flags on the community. And yes, MassResistance is a well-organized pro-family organization.

It is really shameful that Mayor Trujillo used his position to attack mothers, fathers, immigrants, and Downey residents in general because they did not want to fly the pride flag in the city. It’s really laughable that he calls MassResistance “anti-immigrant,” because we have many immigrants in our activist organization. In fact, in some of our activist groups, we have more immigrants than native-born citizens!

Last of all, it’s obscene that Mayor Trujillo claims that the removal of the pride flag is a step backwards for the community. Have a neutral flag policy is a step forwards for unity in the community. It’s a step forward for standing for truth. The promotion of homosexuality and transgenderism is not the next step in the civil rights movement, but a corruption and a theft of the Civil rights movement. It is deeply offensive that Mayor Trujillo and others insist on stealing the honor and dignity of the Civil Rights Movement to cover up and justify their private traumas and turn sexual perversions into a public spectacle.

To quote Karen Carpenter: “We’ve only just begun.” It is wrong for the city of Downey to provide taxpayer funding for the Downey Pride Festival. Why should any city celebrate an agenda which promotes harmful behaviors which short a person’s lifespan and spread disease. Even Councilman Ortiz opposed the pride festival when he ran for office last year.

Last of all, Mayor Trujillo has repeatedly attacked, shamed, and defamed Downey residents, and in these council chambers. He has called residents “idiots,” “Gaza people,” and now he calls them a “hate group.”

This is disgusting behavior from an elected official who is supposed to represent all residents. I think such conduct deserves a motion of censure from this body. No elected official should be allowed to attack and shame city residents, the people whom he is supposed to serve.

LGBT, Corporate Media Meltdown Over CA MassResistance Victory in Downey, CA

Newspapers, TV, politicians, LGBT groups attack MassResistance for stopping “pride flag” requirement in California city.

Leftist attacks from across Southern California – even Florida and the U.K.

We must be doing something right!

May 29, 2024
ALT TEXT The headline on the NBC News website in Los Angeles.

You can tell you’re being effective by the hysterical reaction of the mainstream media and leftist politicians.

Last week we reported that outcry and pressure from our local California MassResistance chapter in Downey, a suburb of Los Angeles, made the City Council derail their annual “pride flag” requirement.

For the previous three years, the City Council had required the “pride flag” be flown on city buildings during “gay pride month” in June. But this year, the City Council backed down to outraged citizens and passed a “neutral flag” policy declaring that only government flags (so no pride flag!) could fly at city buildings.

To the average person, this makes perfect sense. Why should the government require flying a flag that represents a nasty anti-Christian movement promoting unhealthy and destructive behavior? But the LGBT movement and its allies were furious. They insist that the public must be forced to accept and accommodate their symbol. No disagreement is acceptable.

So almost immediately, MassResistance was attacked by leftist media, politicians, and LGBT groups across Southern California. Attacks came from as far away as Florida and the U.K.

Mainstream media have abandoned any pretense of objectivity on the “LGBT rights” issue. They vigorously use the tactic of portraying homosexuals and transgenders as victims (not aggressors!) and anyone who disagrees as a Nazi or bigot. A favorite hammer is the phony “hate group” label from the universally discredited Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a scam used by leftist reporters to smear numerous conservative organizations.

Here’s a sample of the leftist outrage against MassResistance in the days following the Downey City Council vote from media, politicians, and rabid LGBT groups.

Mainstream media

Los Angeles Times. They attack MassResistance in their article as well as numerous officials. But not surprisingly, they don't allow any Downey citizens (or us!) to present the other side.

AOL and Yahoo! News-UK. Both almost immediately reprinted the Los Angeles Times article

NBC News – Los Angeles. This used an extended “hate group” attack by the “gay” mayor, but also included a quote from Arthur explaining how the local citizens felt.

VIDEO: NBC News report (2 min 37 sec)

ABC News – Los Angeles. This was probably the least biased report. It gave both sides, including an interview with Arthur Schaper of MassResistance.

VIDEO: ABC News report (2 min 6 sec)

Los Cerritos News. City of Downey Bans LGBTQ+ Pride Flag.  This unhinged “newspaper” serving the southern suburbs of Los Angeles attacks MassResistance’s California leader Arthur Schaper as “a right-wing activist” who traffics in lies and “homophobic actions.”

The Downey Patriot published three articles on the same day:

Downey votes to no longer fly Pride flag in June  This is their “objective” report, which calls us a “hate group” but does not include quotes from local MassResistance citizens in defense of their position.

LGBTQ+ elected officials express 'profound disappointment' with Downey   Quotes Los Angeles County Assessor Jeff Prang saying, “This is a flag that symbolizes hope, freedom and unity … we are deeply disappointed but also incredibly surprised.”

Editorial: Downey goes backwards by banning Pride flag  “Instead of fostering inclusivity and celebrating diversity, they’re choosing to sow seeds of division. Instead of promoting unity and acceptance, they’re widening the gap between different groups within the city.”

Politicians

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn: She wailed about her disappointment in an Instagram post. “I worry about the message it sends to LGBTQ+ residents.”

State Assemblywoman Blanca Pancheco: She posted a statement on Instagram that mandating the “pride flag” (but not other flags) embraces diversity. It seems like Orwellian doubletalk.

Congressman Robert Garcia (who represents Downey and is openly homosexual) posted a statement on Instagram calling the move “a step backwards.”

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (who doesn’t represent Downey) sent out a press release calling it “a petty decision.”

LGBT “Media”

Los Angeles Blade. City of Downey bans Pride Flag, Mayor labels it attack on LGBTQ+ Hardcore homosexual newspaper based in Los Angeles. Of course, they had to write about this.

Out South Florida. Homosexual newspaper in Florida re-printed the Los Angeles Blade article.

Social media

This news burned up the social media in the Downey area. But our people had a lot of fun taking that on. Here’s just one example:

Final Thoughts

Most pro-family groups constantly try to avoid being called nasty names by the Left. Staying “clean” and respectful makes it easier to raise money. But it doesn’t get the job done.

The “culture war” is a very nasty battle. The hypocrisy of the media and the leftist politicians is front and center. Black Lives Matter and Antifa burned Bibles, spewed hate, threw bottles of urine at police, burnt down a Minneapolis police precinct, and caused terrible damage across the country. The current Hamas supporters call for the murder of Jews. But according to the media and the corrupt Southern Poverty Law Center, they are simply “protesters.”

Yet the same media shamelessly demonizes a group of local parents and citizens who pose no danger to anyone. We’re not allowing it to intimidate us!

HUGE WIN for CA MassResistance: Liberal City Votes to Stop Flying PRIDE Flag

MassResistance citizen outcry stops June “Pride Flag” requirement for public buildings in Los Angeles suburb.

Statewide LGBT group & prominent politicians tried to keep the order alive.

“Gay” mayor goes on rant blaming MassResistance.

May 23, 2024
ALT TEXT MassResistance activists pose in front of Downey City Hall just before the City Council meeting where the "pride flag" vote was taken.

Dedicated pro-family citizens – along with the right strategies and tactics – can win eve in leftist-dominated locales.

Downey, California is a suburb of Los Angeles and a predominately Democrat city. Its 5-member City Council includes two openly “gay” men, including the Mayor. The Mayor helps run the Los Angeles County LGBTQ+ Elected Officials Association.

Nevertheless, four years ago MassResistance had a surprising victory in that city! We organized Downey families to successfully force the School Board to completely remove a Planned Parenthood sex-ed curriculum from the school system.

Pride Flags ordered to fly during June for past 3 years

For the past three years, the City Council enthusiastically passed a resolution ordering City Hall and other city properties to fly the LGBT rainbow flag during the month of June to commemorate “Gay Pride” month. This outraged lots of families in the city who see it as a blatant act forcing the city to celebrate an anti-Christian movement pushing sexual perversions.

Last year, local MassResistance activists came to the City Council meeting and spoke out against the resolution. They urged the Council to adopt a “neutral flag policy” instead that would only allow government flags – US, California, Downey,, and POW flags – to be flown on city property. But the City Council ignored them and passed the “Pride flag” order again for June 2023.

Getting to work fighting back!

Right after that, the MassResistance families decided they weren’t going to let that happen again in 2024 and got to work.

A few months later, in November 2023, there were two special elections – to replace City Council members who had left office before their terms ended. Our activists confronted all the candidates about supporting a neutral flag policy. Many agreed, and some even supported stopping city funding for the local Pride festival. In the end, one pro-family candidate won, though one “gay” candidate also won. It was a good start!

Starting in late November, our activists consistently emailed and called the City Council members to demand a neutral flag policy. If at first they didn’t respond, more calls were made until they did! Local activists also provided sample language for the ordinance.

In March 2024, nearby Huntington Beach, CA voters passed a referendum banning non-government flags on city property. And Joe Biden reluctantly signed a budget bill that included a ban on LGBT flags at US embassies. But getting this policy past the leftist Downey City Council definitely presented a challenge.

At the April and May City Council meetings

At the April 9 Downey City Council meeting, our activists came and spoke passionately in favor of the neutral flag policy. Why should one group get honored and everyone else left out? One of our activists pointed out that the whole LGBT movement is about people who suffer loneliness and a lack of love, and are seeking to meet their needs in unnatural relationships.

Our hard work clearly made a difference. After the public comment portion of that meeting, it was moved and seconded to put a neutral flag policy on the agenda for an upcoming meeting.

At the next Downey City Council meeting on April 23, more of our activists spoke out in favor of the neutral flag policy. The City Council reportedly had also been discussing it in their closed session. Things were happening!

A few days later it was announced that the City Council would take up the matter at the May 14 meeting – just days before “Pride month” was to begin.

The LGBT movement and the leftists were clearly alarmed. On May 5, the statewide LGBT group Equality California sent out an email blast telling their members to attend the Downey City Council meeting on May 14, warning them that “anti-LGBTQ+ extremists” are out to “silence your pride” and make the city “unwelcoming.”

ALT TEXT The Mayor had already organized a special "Pride Flag Raising Ceremony" - and then had to cancel it! [Photo: ABC News Channel 7]

At the May 14 meeting, it was clear that the political establishment did not want this to pass. Besides the LGBT activists who came (only two or three showed up), staff from the district’s State Assemblywoman and staff from a member of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors (who had pushed for a county-wide Pride Flag resolution) came to urge the City Council to reject the neutral flag policy.

State Assemblywoman Janice Hahn, who sent staff to the Downey meeting to fight the neutral flag policy, is shown here a recent L.A. Gay Pride Parade.

The policy was on the meeting’s agenda, but it was placed at the end of a very lengthy item that took nearly three hours to finish. Then there was an hour of public comment – which several MassResistance citizens participated in.

“Gay” Mayor makes nasty speech blaming MassResistance

Just before the vote, when it had become clear the neutral policy would pass, the openly homosexual Mayor made an angry speech castigating MassResistance. He started off,:

This motion strikes me as a direct attack on the Pride flag. Let’s be clear on what we’re doing. This motion came about because of a group called MassResistance. Some of their members are sitting in the back… It’s an organized group … This is a step backward for our city …

He went on to say that our two goals are “anti-immigration” (offering no evidence) and “anti-Pride flag.” Not surprisingly, he labeled us a “hate group,” which is a typical leftist and “gay” projection of their own hate. His rant bashed religious people who read the Bible as hypocrites who harm their children. He said the Pride flag needs to fly because homosexuals need to feel welcomed.

The Mayor’s statement upset some of the City Council members. One of them immediately spoke out:

I firmly disagree with that statement. This is not an attack on any one community. We stand united under the flag of this country. It unites all of us regardless of race, color, or religion. We are called to represent all of our residents.

ALT TEXT MassResistance activists gave strong testimony during the public comments and stayed until the end!
ALT TEXT Just before the vote, the Mayor (center) goes through his rant against MassResistance. The woman toward the right (in front of the white California flag) is the Council member who strongly disagreed with him — and voted for the policy.

The vote

The neutral flag policy passed 3-2. The two “no” votes were by the two homosexuals on the City Council. This was another stunning pro-family victory in a city dominated by Democrats, in one of the most pro-LGBT counties in the country, with a City Council headed by one of the most outspoken LGBT activists in the region.

ALT TEXT When the vote was displayed — 3 yes, 2 no, and 0 abstaining — the leftists were shocked and angry!

Final thoughts

Our MassResistance group in Downey has stuck together for years, and is willing to do what it takes to get good things done. A lot of activity went on (purposely) behind the scenes, which was part of the plan. And they’re not done in Downey. We see this as a springboard to even greater achievements there!

One more thing: To get an idea how shocked and angry this made leftists, one need only look at how the mainstream media in L.A. County (and beyond) exploded over this City Council vote. And the Mayor continued to publicly complain about MassResistance. We will report on that in our next post!

ALT TEXT Thanks to our activists' work, only the US flag, California flag, Downy city flag, and POW flag will fly over City Hall and other government buildings there!

Wrecking a Pro-LGBT RINO: My Response to Mario Guerra's Defense of "PRIDE Tweet"

Here's the extensive response that I gave to RINO former mayor Mario Guerra's pathetic response to myh initial letter regarding RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel's Pride Tweet in June:

Dear Mr. Guerra:

Thank you for your response to my letter. I know that I am making a difference when leadership is compelled to respond.

However, I must say that I found your response to be juvenile, emotionally immature, unrepresentative of both the RNC and CAGOP platforms, and marinated in logical fallacies.

Since you are a former mayor and a current deacon in the Catholic Church, I expected a rigorous, serious argument. Please do better next time.

Let me take apart your very unprepared remarks.

I am also the former Mayor of Downey, current Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, a proud Republican, and a member of the Catholic Clergy (ordained in 2002). I am telling you this, so you know that my response to you is totally from me personally

Mario, I know who you are, and you know who I am. These formalities were not necessary.

I loved all my brothers. While two were gay they were part of who I am as a family. As a Christian I can vouch for what I know to be God's love for them as much as me.

I was embarrassed in my early years about their homosexuality and would not want my friends to know. I overcame this as I matured, understood who they were and as my faith grew. They did not choose to be gay by the way, just like you or I choose to be straight.

This is a fallacious straw-man argument, Mario. Never once did I saw that homosexuals choose “to be gay.” However, I maintain the argument based on science and statistical research that homosexuality and transgenderism (gender dysphoria) are not genetic components of an individual, nor are they natural or healthful manifestations within a person. For the record, we can love and cherish friends and family who struggle with LGBT behaviors. That does not mean we have to celebrate or accept their behaviors.

I am happy to see that our party nationally is accepting of everyone. As they say in politics, our tent is big, and everyone is welcome.

With due respect, no, a political party should not accept “everyone”:

·         We should not accept convicted felons who have not changed their lives or made restitution to society.

·         We should not accept child abusers or pedophiles.

·         We should not accept domestic or international terrorists.

·         We should not accept registered Democrats, Libertarians, etc. They are required to change their political affiliation before joining the party, are they not?

·         We should not anti-Semites or other racialists or racists, since such views violate natural law and natural right. Consider that the CAGOP leadership rightly removed failed US Senate candidate Patrick Little from the 2018 CAGOP Convention for his horrific, false, anti-Semitic smears. Even the previous CAGOP leadership did not accommodate your false notion of “accept everyone.” (Click here for more information)

·         Once again, you are treating homosexuality as an identity. Once again, that is a biological and philosophical fallacy.

I must remind you that churches and other communities which abandon their fundamental precepts are losing members at an alarming rate. The same principle holds true for political parties. A party, like a tent, must stand for something, cover something, and be grounded in something. Otherwise, it’s just a cloth on the ground that everyone walks on.

A political movement must have clear and convincing principles, like defense of natural marriage and the family. The growing movement of Hispanic voters to the GOP column in Texas, Florida, and even in California indicate that the CAGOP must embrace and retain its bona fides on cultural issues, not abandon them. The same trend holds true for African-American and Asian-American communities. A political party is supposed to grow, and it cannot grow by driving away potential members with a consistent unwillingness to stand for something.

Throughout your response, you have cited that you are a Catholic Christian. Let me provide you seminal statements from Scriptural and religious authorities which your Catholic upbringing should revere regarding homosexuality:

“But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.” (Acts 15:20)

And

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” (Romans 1:26-27)

Let me also provide you pertinent statements from the Catholic Catechism on this matter:

# 2357: Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity (Cf. Genesis 19:1-29; Romans 1:24-27; 1 Corinthians 6:10; 1 Timothy 1:10), tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Persona humana, 8). They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

Sir, I am not a practicing Catholic myself, yet even I appear to have a greater understanding of Catholic doctrine on the matters of homosexuality than you do. I can also assure you that a growing segment of the Catholic community in the state of California are also well aware and informed of these standards. Again, I am surprised that I have to explain these elemental facts to you.

For the record, my opposition to homosexuality does not stem from religious conviction or traditional adherence, but rather to a sound appreciation of biology, epidemiology, psychology, and sociology. I have made my arguments based on science, not vain appeals to emotion and superficial religious fervor.

While I do not usually respond to such unbelievable hateful rhetoric, I couldn’t help myself in this case. I felt the need to respond to you. I have been praying for guidance all morning since I read your email.

I am happy to see that our party nationally is accepting of everyone. As they say in politics, our tent is big, and everyone is welcome. We should be spending time on electing Republicans and avoiding hate speech.

We all want the government out of our churches, out of our bank accounts and out of our bedrooms. We should ask no less for our party. We should push hate speech like yours out of our party also.

I will respond to the last paragraph first. This libertarian temptation “we want the government out” is rife with fallacies, and misunderstands the proper role of government. Indeed, governments do regulate behavior in the bedroom. Prostitution and incest, two examples of consensual sexual acts, are properly criminalized. The question is not “whether the government should regulate ...,” but rather which acts should be deemed deviant or criminal.

Considering that even first-world nations like the Republic of Singapore still criminalize sodomy, and considering also that thriving, developed nations like Hungary and Poland have rejected LGBT hegemony, perhaps it’s rather hateful on your part to deem opposition to homosexuality as hateful or backwards.

Again, regarding the role of government, the government is indeed involved in our banking industries. For example, banks cannot over-leverage their holdings via excessive fractional reserve banking. Such dangerous, unethical practices cause bank runs. Banks are also not permitted to release individual or corporate accounts to other claimants without court order. That is a government intervention, to ensure private property is protected. Banks are also required to provide reports of dubious or suspect accounts and transactions, as well, to deter terrorism, drug trafficking, and money laundering. As a reminder, the very First Amendment exists to ensure that the government does not impose its own religious dictates on the citizenry, and also ensures that entities and actors, whether public or private, cannot occlude or frustrate our freedoms.

Earlier, you made numerous references to “hate speech.” Frankly, such denouncements come from the pen or mouths of individuals who are intellectually unsure or emotionally immature. Those who are incapable of making a strong defense, intellectually insecure or unsure, will often label points of view with which they disagree as “hate speech.” Social justice warrior activists on college campuses, for example, resort to this empty epithet because they have never considered that there are differences of opinion to begin with.

Intellectual insecurity or lack of assurance can stem from emotional immaturity, from a greater need to be accepted by one’s peers rather than courageously to stand for truth. Mr. Guerra, you have demonstrated in the past an insistence on seeking the approval of others rather than doing what is right or principled. For example, you withdrew your name as a delegate to the 2016 RNC Convention, when activists in your community criticized you for being on the delegate short list. Your decision to bow out of the delegate list showed the emotional immaturity that comes with refusing to stand for what is right for fear of disappointing others.

Regarding further your juvenile invective “hate speech,” Mario, I must further ask:

·         Do you consider “The Declaration of Independence” hate speech?

·         Is an article from Nature.com “hate speech”?

·         Is the growing body of research which affirms that homosexual conduct is not only learned or acquired innate, and that a growing number of people have abandoned homosexuality and transgenderism, are those records and testimonies “hate speech”?

·         Do you consider the tenets outlined in the New Testament, the Torah, the Quran, even the Confucian Analects regarding natural relations between man and woman “hate speech”?

·         Are the RNC and CAGOP platforms hate speech?

·         And I must further ask: is telling the truth about homosexuality and transgenderism hate speech, too?

Then there are your appeals to authority and emotion towards the end of your statement:

Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter and presidential advisor, recently stated, "I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy."

I will pray for you and those who feel the way you do.

Help us to see that every human being is an image-bearer who must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Keep us from engaging in hateful and harassing behavior toward any individual or group.

An appeal to authority such as Ivanka Trump is more troubling than compelling, Mario. She was never in elected office, and she is not a standard-bearer in the state or national Republican Party apparatus. A growing number of grassroots activists and office holders throughout the United States, including California, find her views and values either irrelevant or contrary to the Republican Party.

Your pathetic (pathos) appeal to compassion, love, and kindness is initially commendable. However, is it truly loving, compassionate, or kind to celebrate behaviors which on average cut the lifespan short of its practitioners by 20%? It is loving or compassionate to lie to the public, especially our precious children in the classrooms, that homosexuality and transgenderism  are normal behaviors when in fact they are inherently harmful and demeaning?

And regarding the larger LGBT hegemony, is it love to force bakers to bake a cake for a gay wedding, when it goes against the conscience of the bakers? Is it compassionate to force churches, charities, and small businesses to disregard their proprietary rights and force them to accommodate an agenda based on fraudulent science and fraught with errors? Is it kindness to deprive children of a mother and a father, to deprive our communities of an essential fabric for its durability (the natural family), and to undermine public health and moral well-being?

Mr. Guerra, I will pray that you can take a better opportunity to respond to my statements with mature, thorough, and forthright statements rather than the intellectually deficient, morally failing, and emotionally overwrought arguments you proffered. I will repeat, since you are a former mayor and a current deacon in the Catholic Church, I expect a rigorous, serious defense of your views. Please do better next time.

Last of all, my demands on the CAGOP leadership remain outstanding. The RNC Chairwoman should be rebuked for celebrating “PRIDE Month,” and she should face calls for her resignation for abandoning the platform and plants of the Republican Party.

Thank you.

Sincerely

Arthur Schaper

RINO Mario Guerra Defends Homosexuality, Calls Catholic, Pro-Family Views "Hate Speech"

Lettter from RINO former Downey, CA Mario Guerra, in response to my rebuke toward RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel's PRIDE Tweet:

Dear Mr. Schaper,
I felt the need to respond to your email this morning.

I am a member of the CAGOP Board of Directors, and I was one of those who received this email from you today.

I am also the former Mayor of Downey, current Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, a proud Republican, and a member of the Catholic Clergy (ordained in 2002). I am telling you this, so you know that my response to you is totally from me personally

I am NOT speaking on behalf of anyone nor any organization that I belong to nor have in the past. These are my personal thoughts.

I have been married for 35 years, have 5 grown kids and 4 grandchildren. I was a refugee that arrived in this country on one of the first freedom flights escaping communism. Like many immigrants my parents gave up everything to come to this amazing country. I had three brothers who have passed away. Two of the three were gay. One died from AIDS, another one from cancer and the other from a plane crash.

I write this general information to give you some background on who I am and what I represent.

Your email and thoughts are disgusting and insulting.

We are better than that and I am proud to be part of a party that is inclusive to everyone. Including our gay family and friends. Our party stands for equality and principles of how we treat others.

While I do not usually respond to such unbelievable hateful rhetoric, I couldn’t help myself in this case. I felt the need to respond to you. I have been praying for guidance all morning since I read your email.

What we should do, out of respect, is have the attitude of presence, accompaniment, sincerity, prayer and invocation together with everyone. We all need to be and live as true children of God.

Perhaps the best way to understand pride is to imagine what you would say to a young person who finally summoned up the courage to tell you that they are LGBTQ. You know that God created them, that God loves them, and you know that God wants you to accept who they are. At least I do. I have no doubt in my heart.

Awareness of your own dignity, which is closer to what pride month is: a celebration of the human dignity of a group of people who for so long have been looked upon as less with disgust from people you. Treated with hate, just like you are portraying them in your email.

As a Catholic Clergy I have been proud of the Catholic Gay and Lesbian Ministry we have had in the Los Angeles Archdiocese for over 20 years. Most people do not know that. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that everyone “must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.”

Help us heavenly father and others to see that in your goodness and grace, you have created all human beings in your image.

Again, these are my personal thoughts and views. I am in no way speaking for those on this email, just like you do not speak for me in your views on what it is to be a Republican. Mario

CA MassResistance Stops Another LGBT Push Downey!

Residents of LA suburb successfully stop yet another LGBT effort by their local government.

MassResistance helps conservative, minority residents fight back against left-wing politicians.

This is how pro-family victories need to happen!

April 1, 2021
ALT TEXT The Downey, CA, City Council listens as the clerk reads the angry emails they received from residents against a proposed city-sponsored "LGBT youth picnic."

The pro-family movement far too often fails to realize that when it comes to the Left’s attempt to push their agenda onto society, every battle is important. And seemingly “little” victories are often particularly critical in the larger picture.

Downey, California is a largely minority, working-class suburb of Los Angeles. The residents are also very conservative. Until just six years ago the Downey City Council was entirely Republican.

Then the California Legislature changed the election laws to allow ballot harvesting, mail-in voting, extended voting, etc. The Los Angeles County Democrat machine targeted Downey. They ran progressives and left-wing activists for the various local offices, and aggressively used ballot harvesting and the other fraudulent techniques to make sure their candidates won. Before people realized what was happening, their government had changed radically. Downey’s minority residents, in particular, felt helpless.

The Left appeared to have free reign to change Downey. But it hasn’t been so easy, thanks to MassResistance!

The battle started in 2019

Part of the leftist agenda is to bring extremely graphic and explicit sex-ed programs into the schools. In 2019, the Downey School Board overwhelmingly passed a “comprehensive sex-ed” curriculum for the middle school and high school grades. Right away, parents were upset with the phony “public vetting” process that had revealed little about it. And the school refused to make the details of the curriculum public. So parents asked MassResistance for help.

Our California MassResistance group forced the school officials to reveal what was really in that curriculum – and we exposed it to the public. But we didn’t stop there. We organized parents from across town to storm the School Board and demand that the curriculum be thrown out.

The fight lasted for six months. The School Board did not want to upset their left-wing allies. But finally, in May 2020, the Downey School Board surrendered and agreed to abandon the curriculum. So far, it hasn’t been replaced with anything.

It was a great victory. As a result, the Downey parents formed one of the most robust MassResistance groups in California!

Last month: Another fight, another win!

Last month, the Left tried another tactic. They felt it was time for the City of Downey to begin sponsoring a public LGBT event. The city would organize an “LGBT youth picnic” in a local park. That may seem relatively inconsequential. But it would be made into a very powerful statement – and leveraged into more official events in the future.

As the local media reported on March 20, the LGBT picnic proposal was to be brought up three days later at the March 23 Downey City Council meeting by Council Member Catherine Alvarez, an “openly bisexual woman,” along with Council Member Mario Trujillo, who is “married” to another man.

It looked like this proposal would sail through the City Council. The article observed, this move is part of Downey’s “transformation away from political conservatism.” (Well – maybe not!)

The people overwhelm the left-wing politicians

Word quickly got out, people across town became very upset, and the Downey MassResistance chapter helped residents get involved. As a result, in the three days leading up to the March 23 meeting, the Mayor and City Council got a flood of calls and emails. Not surprisingly, Trujillo reacted by carrying on about “bigotry” and “homophobia.” But people weren’t intimidated.

At the March 23 meeting when the City Council meeting took up that item, Alvarez began by encouraging the Council to pass it. She didn’t make a very compelling argument:

It’s more likely as a celebration for a Pride Month. I know that last year, the Downey youth organized a Pride march outside of city hall. I think everyone remembers that. They did this because the youth wanted the LGBT people to feel welcome to our community. They wanted to express themselves, that there are LGBT people in this city.

Mayor Claudia Frometa was clearly a bit skittish due to the constituent pressure opposing this, and he countered that argument:

If we approve an event like this, we are setting a precedent, we are opening our city for every group that wants to host something, is going to come knocking on our door, so that we pay for it, Any group is welcome to host whatever event they want, our city’s parks are available. They have to set up their own sponsorship. They do it. It shouldn’t be a city-sponsored anything.

(Of course, setting a precedent is exactly what the Left wants to do!)

Next, Council Member Trujillo spoke at length about the need to publicly fight homophobia and bigotry, not only in Downey but across the country. He listed cities across the country that sponsor “Gay Pride Month” events.

But that didn’t seem to be enough to save it. The other two members of the City Council were not in a mood to go against the flood of opposition to this:

Mayor Pro-tem Blanca Pacheco said she objected to holding an LGBT youth picnic because of the COVID-19 restrictions and also because of the “optics”, given that the city was low on funds, and it would look bad for the city to spend money on something like a Pride event.

Sean Ashton, another liberal on the City Council, said that he supported the idea of an LGBT youth picnic, but did not think that the city should go forward with it because the city needed to address infrastructure issues.

After the Council Members made their remarks, the City Clerk read out comments that were submitted via email. Every single emailed response opposed the LGBT youth picnic! Here are just a few samples that we got via a FOIA request:

Homosexuality and transgenderism are not inherent, genetic traits. These are behaviors that cut the lifespan sort of individuals who engage in them. There are not behaviors to  promote to the public, and should not be permitted around children.

Today you have decided to vote whether or not the City should fund an LGBTQ picnic. Did you consider the majority of residents in Downey who would not want this picnic to be funded by the city? Unbelievable that you would even consider it. That’s not why you were voted into office.

Do not bring divisiveness camouflaged as inclusion. Let’s use city funds to promote COMMUNITY, not specific groups. Remember, you are public servants working for the whole community, not just a small minority of the public sector.

If people who identify as LGBTQ want to have a picnic, then they can have a picnic. No one is stopping from gathering at a park and having a picnic. But there is no reason that the city needs to “officially” sanction this activity.

I have lived in this community for almost 20 years now. I like to live in Downey, but I recently informed that Downey is moving forward to have LGBTQ Picnic. I am furious at the members of Downey Council who consider this. We are not paying taxes to promote personal benefits, but for community.

Next, several people testified via Zoom. A few of them spoke out about so-called “homophobia,” but the majority of the Zoom participants were also strongly against it.

Thus, three of the Council Members would not commit to supporting the picnic, and the vast majority of comments from the public opposed the picnic. Relenting to the clear opposition to the idea, Councilmember Alvarez agreed to abandon the picnic proposal, and instead allow for a proclamation in June 2021 to “celebrate Pride Month,” The Council informally agreed to that, and the matter was done. (However, the Downey MassResistance group is planning to demand a resolution also be passed to celebrate natural marriage, life, and family.)

The people won again! The left-wing politicians were again forced to back down.

Final thoughts

We can’t stress how incredibly important it is to give relatively powerless parents and citizens – especially minorities whom the Left often targets – a strong way to successfully fight back in today’s world. The Left is out to subjugate everyone. But they can be stopped. We must remember that every battle is important!
