The Mission Viejo City Council voted 5-0 to oppose the Sanctuary State Law
The Mission Viejo City Council voted 5-0 in favor of a resolution to support the City of Los Alamitos resolution to opt out of the Sanctuary State Law in order to adhere to the U.S. Constitution. The council also voted 5-0 to sign onto an amicus brief in support of Attorney General Jeff Sessions' lawsuit against California Sanctuary State Laws.
There were public speakers for more than 2 hours on the topic and only 2 of the speakers opposed the resolution in support of the Sanctuary State Laws.
Resident of Mission Viejo and attorney Stephen Serra is against illegal immigration and the Sanctuary State Law. However, he asked the city council to oppose the resolution in support of the Los Alamitos ordinance because he said it is written incorrectly. He said the Los Alamitos ordinance should reference specific and relevant sections of the Sanctuary State Law, similar to the Department of Justice lawsuit, not the entire bill.
Mission Viejo is joining other cities such as Yorba Linda, Los Alamitos, Hesperia as well as Orange County by signing onto an amicus brief in support of the Department of Justice lawsuit targeting California Sanctuary State Laws.
