Reflections on "My Utmost" November 23 Part II

"Beware of “the cares of this world . . .” (Mark 4:19). They are the very things that produce the wrong attitudes in our soul. It is incredible what enormous power there is in simple things to distract our attention away from God. Refuse to be swamped by “the cares of this world.”

What are we supposed to do with these "cares"?

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." (1 Peter 5:6-7)

How do we humble ourselves? By receiving from Him all things, since we cannot do anything for ourselves apart from Him (cf John 15:5)

Here, "casting" is literally "laying down" like putting heavy burdens on someone else. Do we not think that God can handle our needs better than we? And He wants ALL of them. In the past, I used to fear that giving up my concerns meant that they would not get taken care of, as if I was just throwing them away. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Besides, why should we worry about the "cares of the world"?

"What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:31-32)

He is for us, no one can stop us. He freely gives us all things; therefore, we have no reason to fear not having all that we need and then some.
