Reflections on "My Utmost" November 18 Part II

"God does not pay any attention to our natural individuality in the development of our spiritual life. His order runs right across the natural life, and we have to see that we aid and abet God, not stand against Him and say – I can’t do that.

Here, the emphasis is too much on what we must do, rather than gracefully and graciously receiving all that God is doing for us:

"12Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." (Philippians 2:12-13)

He is doing the work. We do not so much "get out of the way" as let Him have His way through us -- by faith!

"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." (Romans 4:5)

"He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?" (Galatians 3:5)

and let us not forget:

"For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love." (Galatians 5:6)

Faith does quite a lot for us -- and let us never cease to meditate and thank God for this great gift of faith, through which His unrelenting grace works in our lives and blesses us ever more:

"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Ephesians 3:20)
