Rhode Island GOP: PawSox Stadium Big Waste of Money

For Immediate Release
February 26, 2018
A NEW STADIUM WILL NOT PAY FOR ITSELF
Warwick, RI - For months the PawSox ownership and their allies have been trying to fool the public by claiming that a new PawSox stadium will pay for itself, and today their allies produced a poll trying to show the public would support their new stadium proposal.

In response, Rhode Island Republican National Committeeman Steven Frias commented: “The truth is that a new PawSox stadium will not pay for itself.

First, the PawSox currently do not generate enough tax revenues to pay for a new stadium. Under the proposed legislation, taxpayers will pay $3.2 million a year for 30 years or a total of $96 million. According to RI Commerce, the PawSox generate less than that now. They generate about $1.6 million a year in actual sales and income tax revenues, and some of this income tax revenue withheld during the year is refunded after state tax returns are filed.

Second, the tax revenue estimates are based, in part, on a surge of more than 40 percent in attendance. This is unlikely and certainly not sustainable in the long-run. Since the new Pawsox ownership bought the team, and began demanding a new taxpayer funded stadium, attendance has declined by 20 percent. Building a new stadium will not help bring back fans turned off by the new ownership’s demands for taxpayer subsidies.

Third, tax revenue estimates relied upon by the PawSox are not reliable and can be easily manipulated. When the PawSox wanted to build a new stadium in Providence, their consultants said the new stadium would generate more than $2 million a year. Now, these same consultants say a new stadium in Pawtucket will generate more than $3 million a year. These estimates can’t be trusted.

Lastly, economists are nearly unanimous in concluding that the economic benefits generated by sports stadiums are very small, smaller than stadium advocates say, and smaller than the size of the taxpayer subsidies. There is no reason why a new PawSox stadium would be any different.”

Rhode Island GOP: Legislation to Address Liberal Governor's Corrupt Deals

For Immediate Release
February 15, 2018
LEGISLATION TO EXPOSE RAIMONDO’S SECRET DEAL
Providence, RI -  Governor Gina Raimondo’s campaign and her subordinate, Patrick Ward’s Providence Democratic City Committee, entered into a secret fundraising agreement. Kevin Olasanoye, the executive director of the R.I. Democratic Party, believed that this agreement would lead to Raimondo’s donors giving $10,000 contributions to the Providence Democratic City Committee for “party building” and in exchange, the Providence Democratic City Committee would “then presumably give Raimondo some undisclosed degree of control over who was hired and how money was spent” (Providence Journal, February 12, 2018).

Representative Mike Chippendale commented: “Rhode Island campaign finance law does not directly address fundraising agreements like the Raimondo-Ward deal. As a result, I am introducing legislation to require candidates to file with the Board of Elections any written agreement they reach with a party committee involving campaign contributions or expenditures. In Rhode Island, other documents other than campaign finance reports are filed with the Board of Elections. Under R.I.G.L. Section 17-25-11 (c)(2), candidates are required to file with the Board of Elections a copy of the bank statement for their campaign account annually so the Board in can verify the accuracy of campaign finance reports. Because of R.I.G.L. Section 17-27-3(a) certain state vendors file a copy of their contract with the Board of Elections so that the public is informed of how some campaign donors profit from state business. My proposed legislation will assist in ensuring our campaign finance laws are followed instead of evaded.”

Silly Shelly Whitehouse, Still Beating "Overturn Citizens United" Drum

US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) has resurrected the old argument over Citizens United. The Supreme Court decision opened up the power of independent PACs to spend unlimited amounts on candidates and causes, but they could not collude with candidates to do so.

Now he's hoping that this issue will bring in donations to help him in his re-election bid, although it would seem to me that because of his corrupt stance on illegal immigration as well as fanatical push for climate alarmism, he is facing more challenges than he realized.

Check out this eblast, and tell me if you think he is as delusional as I think he is:

Whitehouse for Senate
Friends:
Eight years ago this month, the Supreme Court made a monumental decision to allow special-interest groups to spend unlimited money in political elections.
Ever since, we've watched dark-money groups throw obscene amounts of cash into election after election, with most of them backing hardline conservatives. Before the ruling, "outside" groups spent $143 million on the 2008 elections – but in 2016, they spent a whopping $1.4 billion. The current sorry state of our politics and the advance of partisan extremism owes a lot to this terrible ruling.
Enough is enough. If we let dark money decide elections, America could fall into the hands of big anonymous donors. Friends, grassroots support is the key to fighting back against the influx of dark money: Give $5 or more now to help me win reelection and keep up this fight for accountability in our politics.
A single court ruling opened the floodgates to anonymous, untraceable spending. That's why we've got to make it harder for Trump to nominate special-interest nominees to the Supreme Court. He's already begun stacking it with right-wing justices and could nominate more in the years to come.
If we want any chance of overturning Citizens United, we can't let Trump pack our highest court, so strengthening our Democratic firewall in the Senate is essentialBut I need your help to win reelection and strengthen the Democratic firewall:
Thank you,
Sheldon

Fung for Governor: Incumbent Democrat Turned Rhode Island Into Crime State

Image

Arthur,

I am shocked by how dangerous our state has become under our current Governor.

Last year, Rhode Island had the highest murder rate in New England according to FBI statistics.

Even when local leaders stand up, Gov. Raimondo's administration overrules their voices, making the streets more dangerous.

We need new leadership if we want to stop crime and protect our state.

Rhode Island, we can do better. MUCH better.
Image
As Governor, I will put Rhode Islanders first and work hard to protect all of our citizens. We need new leadership if we want to stop the crime and protect our state and our families.

Will you stand with me today and support making Rhode Island a safer place for you and your family?

Thank you for your support,

Allan

Rhode Island GOP: Thank President Trump, Gov. Raimondo!

For Immediate Release
GOVERNOR, SAY THANK YOU TO TRUMP
Warwick, RI - For months now Governor Gina Raimondo and her Rhode Island Democratic allies have been non-stop in their criticism of President Donald J. Trump. Today, we learned that Infosys, an India based company, will locate some jobs here in Rhode Island. According to multiple national news reports, Infosys pledged to move jobs back to the United States after President Donald J. Trump took steps to reform the work visa programs that Infosys and other out-sourcing companies use.

Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Brandon S. Bell commented: “Infosys is now locating jobs here in America because of the efforts of the Trump administration. Governor Raimondo should acknowledge this and thank President Trump for his efforts. Without the Trump administration’s efforts, Infosys would not be bringing jobs to Rhode Island. Raimondo likes to blame President Trump for Rhode Island’s failures under her leadership. Maybe Raimondo can give at least some credit to President Trump for these new Rhode Island jobs. Governor, it’s time for you to say thank you to President Trump.”

Rhode Island GOP Calls Out Dem. Governor's Abuse of Food Stamp Program

Rhode Island's Neediest to be Rescued by a Special Master
Warwick, RI -Today Chief U.S. District Court Judge William Smith appointed a Special Master to fix the food stamp delays. Basically, Judge Smith gave Rhode Islanders a new temporary governor for UHIP since Governor Raimondo has failed to do her job.

RI Republican Party Chairman Brandon S. Bell commented: "The UHIP system has failed Rhode Island's most neediest citizens for more than a year. Since she launched the system against the feds' advice, Governor Raimondo has shuffled several of her patronage appointees to make it look like she was holding people accountable. Also, she has not fired Deloitte." Bell added, while Governor Raimondo continues to attend out of state fundraisers and spend on her taxpayer funded PR staff, our neediest are counting on a new leader, Special Master Sherman, to get them through the last days of Raimondo's reign."

Bell concluded: "Fortunately a new Governor will be in place soon. The millions that will be spent by Raimondo on her re-election campaign will not change the fact that under her watch people went without the most basic necessities."

Rhode Island GOP Calls Out RI Dems for Anti-Trump Hypocrisy

For Immediate Release
MEMO TO THE RI DEMOCRATIC PARTY:
DON’T COMPLAIN ABOUT TRUMP WHEN YOUR LEADERS SOUND LIKE TRUMP
Warwick, RI -This week the Rhode Island Democratic Party has been attacking Rhode Island Republican gubernatorial candidates related to President Trump.

In response, Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Brandon S. Bell commented: “Originally, Trump attacks by the Rhode Island Democratic Party can be dismissed as a lame attempt to distract voters from their failures at the State House. Now, they are simply laughable. The Rhode Island Democratic Party wants to complain about President Trump but their leaders have sounded a lot like Trump. Joe DeLorenzo, the Second Vice Chairman Rhode Island Democratic Party, has called fellow Rhode Island Democrats “left wing whack jobs” and supports Trump on the NFL national anthem controversy. Meanwhile Joe Paolino Jr., Rhode Island’s Democratic National Committeeman, once blazed the trail Trump later followed by campaigning on cracking down on illegal immigration by building a triple fence on the border with Mexico.”

Bell concluded: “The Rhode Island Democratic Party has no credibility when it comes attacking Rhode Island Republicans about Trump when the members of their own leadership have sounded a lot like Trump. They should either come up with a new talking point or find some new leaders.”

RIGOP Exposes Corruption and Sexual Perversion of Democratic Party

For Immediate Release
IT’S MORE THAN HARASSMENT, IT’S CORRUPTION
Warwick, RI -Today we learned from State Representative Edith Ajello that legislators and lobbyists have been asked for sexual favors in exchange for help moving their legislation. This revelation comes after State Representative Teresa Tanzi’s statement that she was harassed by a high ranking State House official and was told that sexual favors would help her bills go further. In response, House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello has created a study commission.

Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Brandon S. Bell commented: “This has gone beyond being an issue of workplace harassment. This is now an issue of corruption at the State House. There is no difference between a legislator asking for sex to support a bill than a legislator asking for a bag of cash to vote for a bill. The Rhode Island State House sounds like the center of a sex trade racket.”

Bell concluded: “Speaker Mattiello has not denied that this sort of behavior is going on at the State House, but he has not taken any steps to expose and remove from power the perpetrators of this corrupt sex-for-legislation racket. Instead he wants a study commission on harassment. We don’t need a study commission to stop corruption. We need state and federal law enforcement to investigate, and bring these politicians to justice.”
