Vermont GOP: Fighting for Working Teachers

The Vermont Republican Party is actually fighting!

They are even championing the teachers in their own state.

They face double-digit health insurance increases, but just like California, the working people of Vermont are facing high costs of living, including housing costs.

Can they really suffer another set of cost increases on concerns like health insurance?

Check what the liberal Democrats have done to the working educators of their state, and what Govenror Phil Scott wanted to do for them:

ICYMI: Thanks to Liberal Lawmakers & Union Bosses, VT Teachers Face Double-Digit Health Insurance Rate Hikes

Teachers & Taxpayers Would Have Saved Millions Under Gov. Scott’s Plan

Berlin, VT—The Vermont Education Health Initiative (VEHI) has announced that school employees will face monthly premium increases ranging from 6.4% to 17.2% — in large part due to far-left lawmakers and the NEA’s drastic efforts to kill Governor Scott’s education health care savings plan.

Under Governor Scott’s VEHI plan, health care contracts for educators would have been negotiated at the state level; leveraging a unique opportunity to, in part, avoid the“Cadillac” tax on insurance plans. Not only would this proposal have achieved savings, but would have simplified contract negotiations, avoided cuts to school programing, and protected collective bargaining rights.

The Governor’s VEHI plan would have achieved up to $75 million in annual savings; $50 million of which would have been used to ensure that teachers’ health insurance costs remained the same, while up to $26 million annually would have been returned to taxpayers in the form of property tax savings. The proposal had the support of bipartisan lawmakers, the Vermont School Boards Association and the Vermont Superintendents Association.

Unfortunately, far-left lawmakers like Lt. Governor David Zuckerman, Speaker Mitzi Johnson, President Pro-Tem Tim Ashe, along with NEA union bosses killed the Governor’s plan for the current fiscal year.

Nowthe very same educators who left-wing elitists in the State House were “protecting” now face double-digit premium increases. Under Governor Scott’s plan, they would have been protected from rate increases while $26 million would be returned to taxpayers.

At the end of the day, these union bosses and lawmakers didn’t protect educators as they claimed they would. Instead, they acted AGAINST the interest of educators and promoted their own political ends through partisan fear-mongering and a broad misinformation campaign. As a result, teachers, students and taxpayers will suffer.

Now thanks to the unions and far-left lawmakers in Montpelier, teachers face up to 17.2% in premium hikes, and property taxpayers will receive significantly less in savings than the $26 million they would have received under Governor Scott’s plan.
So the next time you enter the voting booth, remember the empty promises and self-interested efforts made by union bosses and liberal lawmakers.

Teachers, no matter what their background or the political affiliation, should rethink the Democratic and Progressive dominance in Montpelier.

How much longer are the teachers going to allow politics to get in their way of their championed prosperity? The people of Vermont are hurting. The job opportunities are shrinking fast. Most young Vermonters are moving out of state. The New York City transplants are ruining this once very Republican state, in which progressives and conservatives had their own fight--sadly the progressives won, and the Democratic Party took over afterwards.
