Having Kids Does not an Adult Make

One mother I knew used to believe that having kids pushed a person out of childhood into adulthood.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

There is a higher incidence of kids having kids in this world. There is a growing element of adults who have not matured, convinced that they must be married in order to  live a fulfilling life.

Judge Mabel Simmons said it best: “Marriage is supposed to enhance your life.”

Men and women get married because they are looking for someone to “complete them”, when nothing  could be more frustrating and empty. We cannot find the fulfillment that we need in other people. We cannot find the life so lacking in us through marriage. The love unabated, unqualified, and unconditional that every person seeks can only be found in God through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, who  loved us and gave His life for us. This gift He keeps on giving to us through His Holy Spirit.

Men and Women, especially women, are looking for life in their spouses, then in their kids, hoping to find meaning and fulfillment. The rigmarole of the world cannot ease or appease the need of the Spirit within us. It just cannot be done. In fact, the more that we attempt to find life within ourselves or in our dealing with our family, friends, or acquaintances, the more burned out will become.

Having children does not an adult make. This foolish pursuit of fulfillment in anything but Christ creates nothing but disillusion and bondage. Someone must stop this insanity at all costs!

If we want to mature, we must grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord, skillful in righteousness, that our life and standing are not of our making, but are gifts that we receive from God the Father.
