Senator Ted Lieu has proven once again that he cares about veterans.
His bill to protect the solemn ceremony honoring our fallen soldiers is understandable, but the effort and political investment is misplaced.
Our veterans, those who have fallen, those who are still fighting, and those on furlough back in the states, deserve much more.
How about bringing our troops back home from incessant wars which do not serve our national interests? How about the cessation of severing men and women from their families by stationing them in military bases around the world, in countries that do not need our military presence?
How about discharging the care and succor of our veterans from the Untied States Department of Veterans Affairs, a confused and inadequate bureaucracy which has done a deplorable job of providing for the proper care of our armed forces upon returning from the field of combat?
In addition to better care for our veterans, how about ensuring a solvent state and country for our armed forces to return to? They deserve to live in a country that honors its financial and legal obligations to the states and the people, the ones whom our armed forces have shed blood and died for. Since they have demonstrated estimable sacrifice and capable leadership overseas, the United States Congress and California legislature ought to do the same here at home.
