Archbishop Resigns -- So What?

I am neither surprised nor dismayed by the sudden exposure of an American Catholic priest fathering a secret family.

I am more concerned that the man refused to consider the implications of the vows which he swore to when he was ordained.

I am most concerned by a rapacious media which delights only in dragging down men and women for their private failures.

Regarding the single life, celibacy is possible, but only by the grace of God ("With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26), for those who have found a far greater Love in Christ.

When you abide in His love, then you are complete in Him (cf Colossians 2:10).

Therefore, if a man of woman is complete in Christ, then there is no need to marry. Paul the apostle deemed a single life best, even calling it good -- or, more precisely, "beautiful" (cf 1 Corinthians 7:1).

Any divorce court judge can testify to this truth: marriage is meant to enhance our lives, not to complete us.

This immature ignorance is the reason why there is such a high number of divorces in the world. Men and women search for the "perfect mate", which does not exist -- then become very quickly embittered and disillusioned. Some people want their significant other to be the parent and caretaker that every person longs for.

Yet only God can fill that need -- the desire for perfect unconditional love and caring:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

And

"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." (1 John 4:10)

Do you want to enter into this perfect union? The same apostle explains how:

"Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." (1 John 4: 15-16)

When you know and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God in the flesh, and that He died for your sins -- past, present, future -- and by His grace you receive the Holy Spirit, that you may sit in eternal glory with Him in the place of honor, at the right hand of the Father -- then you will be saved (Romans 10:9)
