Breaking: American Children First Files UUT Repeal Initiative in Huntington Park (Corrupt City Clerk Tries to Stop Filing!)

Joseph Turner, Founder of American Children First, is on a mission. He wants to help defund sanctuary cities, jurisdictions which refuse to recognize and comply with our nation's federal immigration laws.

The first city in his target, Cudahy, had initially rebuffed the filing because Turner did not qualify as an elector in the city--at least per the opinion of city attorney Rick "Roybal" Olivarez. Unwilling to waste any time, Turner reached out to determined Cudahy residents, men and women who want to starve Cudahy's corrupt government. The first step of the process has beeh achieved.

Now, Turner is filing the same initiative in de facto sanctuary city Huntington Park with the help of residents like Nick Iaoniddis, aka Nick the Greek. This move is a success and a media victory in itself, since Nick the Greek, the founder of Immigrants Day, has endured so much anti-American abuse at the hands of the corrupt, and some would allege Brown Supremacist city council.

The Huntington Park City Council and police department continue to flout, to defy federal law, especially with the appointment of two illegal aliens to their city commissions. This behavior is beyond outrageous.

And now they are going to feel the pain.

Turner has targeted sanctuary cities for their disregard in the best way possible:take away their money.

We all love Jeff Sessions, and no one would suggest that the Attorney General is failing in his duties. While he is taking on MS-13 gangs and ensuring the enforcement of visa overstays, we Californians have every right and opportunity to take on cities, too.

I arrived at about 11:15 am this morning at Huntington Park city hall.

And there was that news van, again!

From whom? Members of the city council, who don't want  the initiative to succeed?

Men and women were lined up for different issues. When I wen to the city clerk's office, two news cameras were already there recoding Turner submitting the paperwork along with Nick!

Then things got really interesting.

The city clerk's staffer REFUSED to accept the paperwork!

She actually claimed that only the city clerk herself, Donna Schwartz, would accept and stamp the initiative filing.

Unbelievable!

But we persisted. In no way were any of us leaving the city clerk's office until Turner finished the filing process for Nick's initiative!

Donna Schwartz, the city clerk, saw the two cameras, the two Huntington Park residents, Joseph Turner, and me. She just quickly ran past us and said "I am not authorized to take your papers."

WHAT? Since when has a city clerk every denied the public their right to submit legal papers?

If ever? Of course, this evasion is not the first time Schwartz ran away from us

Then came the "Three Stooges", aka Chief of Police Corrupt Cosme, Lieutenant "Full Capacity" Martinez, and Sergeant Unsettle Settles:

This miasma of nonsense was beyond belief! Does it really require the chief of police, a lieutenant. and a sergeant to process an imitative in the city of Huntington Park?

Daniel Salazar told me that this has become "business as usual" in HP,  though. The city acts as though the are independent of the laws of the United States for some reason. What are they thinking?

The  Lieutenant Alfred Martinez refused to explain to me why he had claimed the city council chambers were "at capacity." He then became secretary for the day taking our paperwork, and then get everything stamped. He even informed Turner and the rest of us that there was no filing fee.

Huh?

I am not buying any of this. Of course, Martinez was on record with three cameras bearing on him, which have all affirmed that "There is no filing fee."

Yes, he stated that.

I found Nick the Greek's stamp on the paperwork.

At the top of the paper, there was a simple stamp which indicated "Received"--and nothing more.

Normally, a filing fee is $200, and Turner was ready with the money. What is going on?!

We all congregated outside to figure out what steps to take next.

Salazar did share with me concerns that the city of Huntington Park, which does not seem to care about cameras recording their crimes and corruption, will kick away the initiative, claiming that "no fee was provided."

Well, well, well.

Lo and behold, the Huntington Park police and corrupt city council are finding that the citizens of the United States are not backing away from their fight in Huntington Park.

As a reminder, the repeal of the Utility Users Tax needs only 176 signatures to qualify for a city ballot, and when the residents vote for repeal, the city will descend deeper into bankruptcy.

If cities refuse to protect citizens and respect our laws, then they deserve to go bankrupt.

The Huntington Park illegal alien, corrupt establishment is terrified.

They falsely arrested an American citizen.

They have routinely violated the Brown Act in city council chambers.

Corrupt gangs run the streets. Special interest vendors have essentially bribed Karina Macias and funded the campaigns for the four other city council members on the dais. They actually believed that they could get away with appointing two illegal aliens to city commissions. They are in cahoots with every corrupt enterprise in the South East LA Area.

Now they have to contend with multiple lawsuits plus a tax repeal initiative, which if passed, will bankrupt the city once and for all.

It's about time that justice, swift and sincere, finally swept through this corrupt outpost to illegal immigration, corruption, and outright evil!

The Los Angeles Times is exposing more of the local corruption eating away at Southeastern Los Angeles Count municipalities.

When Bell was exposed, almost every member of the city council was locked up, along with the city manager and the city clerk. The takedown of this pre-eminently corrupt city, overcharging city residents with high taxes and fees proved too much, even for the normally liberal-leaning Los Angeles Times to deal with.

The way a small-town politician used her relationship with city contractors to draw income could pose an important test of the state’s conflict of interest laws, good-government experts said.

FYI: We the People Rising have been reporting on these corrupt transactions for at least two years.

Huntington Park Councilwoman Karina Macias raised money for a 2015 state Assembly candidate who never actually filed to run, and she was paid a commission based on a percentage of the total. The district attorney’s office launched a review of Macias’ commission and her votes as a councilwoman after a Times article that revealed the arrangement.

Karina Macias got rich off of consulting fees for private vendors. Then she voted nicely on the contracts for these vendors. I call this whole scheme a conflict of interest!

Experts said last week that if the practice is found to be legal, or is otherwise permitted, it would provide public officials a loophole they could potentially use for self-enrichment.

Maybe I should be a consultant and help raise money for non-candidates, and then I can vote on nice rich contracts for corrupt vendors, too! YAY!

Macias raised money from people linked to companies that were awarded contracts by Macias and Huntington Park's council majority. Those included the city’s bus service and dial-a-ride operator, its street sweeping and bus stop maintenance vendor and a towing company.

According to Macias, she informed these people that, if they contributed, she would receive a commission. In prior interviews with The Times, she could not give an example of someone who contributed and was not connected to a city contractor. She was paid $6,800 total for her fundraising work.

Macias has denied that the commission in any way influenced her votes on contracts.

WOW! This is the same lady who shot the middle finger at We the People Rising at a fundraising function near the city hall. Keep it classy, Karina!

There are two main conflict of interest laws on the state’s books that might apply to Macias’ situation. A violation of the law known as the Political Reform Act, which makes it illegal to cast votes that financially benefit sources of income, could mean a possible misdemeanor or an administrative fine.

Steve Cooley, the former L.A. County district attorney who created the office’s public integrity division, said Macias’ commission and votes could have violated the more serious felony conflict of interest law.

The essential question for prosecutors, Cooley said, is whether Macias structured a “quid pro quo” deal.

If the district attorney's office files criminal charges, it would “send a message” that “this is a no-fly zone. Don’t go there,” Cooley said.

Thank goodness for Steve Cooley. There would have never been a public integrity division without Cooley.

Jessica Levinson, a government ethics professor at Loyola Law School, said such a precedent might encourage ill-disposed politicians in places where fewer people are paying attention. That would include relatively small cities and scores of often obscure agencies that make up the patchwork of governments in places like L.A.

Jessica Levinson has weighed on integrity and public interest issues a number of times. When is she going to start focusing on the corruption in local cities, like Torrance California? How about why city council members in the Palos Verdes Peninsula chose to abandon their elected offices? There is a lot of corruption going on in Hermosa Beach--or so I have heard reports about getting people employment by elected office.

Bob Stern, who coauthored the Political Reform Act, said that if there is a determination that what Macias did is aboveboard, then it would be clear that the Huntington Park councilwoman had found a loophole in the law he helped write.

LA Times Runs Over Huntington Park ... Again! (Metro Transit Corruption)

We the People Rising have been blasting the corruption and lawlessness in Huntington Park for the past two years.

Only now is the Los Angeles Times getting involved investigating the corruption?

What took them so long? 

They published a story about Karina Macias' illicit connections one week before the March 7, 2017 municipal elections. Either the article was too little too late, or the voter fraud was just so overwhelming, that Macias and Avila were going to prevail, regardless.

I am going with the latter, although I would not be surprised that most of the voting public in Huntington Park did not bother to read the revealing accounts in the press regarding the dial-a-ride hustle in their own city.

When the Huntington Park City Council changed its senior citizens dial-a-ride contractor last year, it raised some eyebrows in the community.

Not just eyebrows. Voices and fists were raised at the Huntington Park City Council meetings last year, too. Unfortunately, the political awareness which comes with voter outrage did not follow through.

The council selected Metro Transit Services for $600,000 a year with annual increases, even though the firm’s bid was was nearly $200,000 a year higher than what the incumbent contractor, Fiesta Taxi, bid.

WHAT?! Yes, indeed, the Huntington Park City Council took the poor, working-class residents to the cleaners, and then some. Such is the result of a community where 45% of the residents are illegal aliens, and the voting public refuses to vote!

The October decision was the second time city leaders had awarded a contract to Metro Transit Services.

HA!

Metro Transit hired as its general manager Mario Beltran, owner of a political consulting firm that worked for a campaign committee that promoted the council majority. He had no experience in transportation and a criminal record involving misuse of campaign funds and filing a false police report. It also hired Councilwoman Graciela Ortiz’s brother, an unpaid volunteer to his sister’s council campaign.

Mario Beltran, the eminence grise for all things corrupt in the South Eastern Los Angeles County region.

Council members say these connections played no role in their decisions to award contracts to Metro Transit, which they thought would serve the community well.

Charging the residents of the city $200,000 more a year--that constitutes serving the community well?

Really?! They're either delusional, or demonic!

City officials said in a staff report that they analyzed Fiesta Taxi’s bid and concluded that the vendor had given an inaccurate price quote. Based on the level of service and Fiesta Taxi’s rate, the bid should have been more than $600,000 annually — just slightly more than Metro Transit’s proposal, the staff report said.

Sure it was ...

City Manager Edgar Cisneros said at the council meeting that Fiesta Taxi’s service had consistently exceeded its budget. The city later completed a study of the service and made cuts that records show brought costs under control.

Cisneros is not exaclty a hero, either. He is very big in the left-wing LGBT, open borders movement:

There were no scoring sheets — a standard document in local government contract bidding — available at the meeting to show how and why both contractors were ranked, something Fiesta Taxi’s representative, Marco Soto, pointed out during public comments.

So, the city council claims that the Fiesta Taxi bid was wrong, and would have cost the city of Torrance far more than the bidder had claimed, yet at the same time they refused to provide information demonstrating the cost adjustments.

This is corruption and fraud writ large. Don't the voting citizens of Huntington Park have any sense of regard for their well-being? From what I heard in the city, the homeowner are just going to leave the city and live it at that.

The only council member against Metro Transit was so concerned about the vote that he threatened to report it to authorities.

“I will talk to the D.A. about this,” Councilman Valentin Amezquita told his colleagues at the meeting. “Don’t erase the [council meeting] video.”

Of course, this man, Valentin, was kicked off the city council in the March 7, 2017. Voter fraud!

Let's not forget that the incumbent Macias and her favorite Manny Avila had big money and major endorsements from corrupt special interests in the LA region.

In an interview, Amezquita said he couldn’t get an explanation for how staff concluded that Fiesta Taxi’s price quote was inaccurate and questions why Metro Transit was selected.

The mayor at the time, Graciela Ortiz, dismissed Soto’s concern about the lack of scoring sheets. She emphasized at the meeting that the complaints about Fiesta Taxi’s service as a good reason to change contractors. By Soto’s count there were three “verified complaints” from residents about Fiesta Taxi’s service.

Three complaints. Are three complaints worth $200,000?

“Three people is three people too much, in my eyes,” Ortiz said. “You’re telling me about the scoring sheet, but please understand we represent the residents of Huntington Park.”

City records show complaints rose sharply after Metro Transit took over the dial-a-ride service, going from a handful to more than two dozen within a few months.

WOW! Three complaints and the city spends $200,000. For all that extra money, the complaints have risen sharply. What a bunch of rip-off con artists!

Council members say that’s because they are more closely tracking complaints since Metro Transit got the contract.

But Cisneros, the city manager, was also unhappy with how Metro Transit was responding to concerns from residents. An elderly woman said she was left stranded in the middle of a rainy night with no Metro Transit drivers to pick her up, and the city manager grew increasingly frustrated when the company’s vice president, Victor Caballero, failed to respond.

They are all buddy-buddy with the corrupt city council. There has never been any intention that these city councilmembers wanted to do what is best for the citizens of Huntington Park.

“This is concerning and unacceptable,” Cisneros wrote in a Feb. 14 email to Caballero.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office is looking into a Huntington Park councilwoman’s role as a political consultant in which she raised money from companies that sought to do business with the city, a spokeswoman for the D.A. said this week.

The DA is well-aware of the corruption going on in this city already.

The inquiry by the district attorney’s public integrity division follows a Times article published Sunday detailing how Councilwoman Karina Macias raised money for a state Assembly campaign by parlaying her connections throughout the community.

Some of the contributors were linked to companies that were awarded contracts by Macias and the council majority, including the city’s bus service and dial-a-ride operator, its street sweeping and bus stop maintenance vendor and a towing company.

That's right, and they are charging the working people of Huntington Park higher fees, too!

And the contracts cost more than the other contracts up for bid.

Macias said she raised about $25,000 for Efren Martinez’s 2016 race for state assembly. She was paid nearly $6,800 in commission for her efforts, according to her financial disclosures. The commission was based on a percentage of the contributions she raised, she said.

Efren is running for State Assembly ... again? He ran in 2012, then he wanted to run 2016.

And he's running against in 2020?

We have a word for this kind of rampant fundraising: money laundering!

“We are reviewing the matter,” district attorney spokeswoman Shiara Davila-Morales wrote in an email to the Times.

Government watchdogs said Macias’ fundraising business created at least the appearance of a conflict of interest.

REALLY?!

“The question is are these people really giving to the candidate or are they giving to her?” said Bob Stern, co-author of the 1974 Political Reform Act, one of the state laws that cover conflicts of interest.

Macias said she couldn’t recall all the donors from whom she raised money. When asked for an example of a contribution from somebody who was not associated with a city contractor, Macias couldn’t come up with one.

Macias and Martinez did not return calls for comment Tuesday.

The Times has also learned that the council appointed Martinez to the planning commission while Macias was fundraising for his campaign committees. The commission pays a $75 monthly stipend, according to the city clerk.

The revelations about Macias’ fundraising have figured into the March City Council elections. Macias is running for reelection, and her political opponents have called on labor groups and some elected officials to “reconsider” their endorsements of the councilwoman.

Huntington Park councilwoman's consulting business raises questionsabout conflicts of interest

Karina Macias said she saw a business opportunity shortly after being elected to the Huntington Park City Council.

She decided to become a political consultant and parlay her connections throughout the community to help raise campaign contributions for other aspiring candidates.

"Parlay her connections"? How about calling it what it is? Influence peddling!

So far, she’s had only one client, raising $25,000 for a state Assembly race in 2016. For her efforts, she said, she received a percentage of the contributions raised, which totaled about $6,800 in commission.

Several of the contributions came from businesses — or people associated with them — who were awarded city contracts approved by Macias and her council colleagues, according to a Times review of campaign records and interviews.

How many times have I been writing about this?

How many times have other residents and activists working in and around the city have blasted this corrupt city council?

In one case, Macias voted in favor of a city contract for a bus company that Huntington Park’s then-finance director complained was “completely inappropriate” because the deal short-changed city taxpayers.

Yes, it was inappropriate because it ended up costing the city more money.

Macias, who is running for reelection in the March council race, denied that contributions she raised as a political consultant influenced her decisions on awarding city contracts to those same contributors.

“It’s not swaying my vote in any way,” Macias said.

But some government watchdogs said her actions have the appearance of a conflict of interest and questioned whether she should have voted on contracts involving people who donated money to a campaign that paid her a percentage of those contributions.

“The question is, are these people really giving to the candidate or are they giving to her?” said Bob Stern, a government ethics expert and co-author of the Political Reform Act. “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this.”

It's a new scam. A  member of the Chamber of Commerce in Florence-Firestone told me about this.

Macias raised money for Efren Martinez, who opened a campaign fundraising committee to run for state Assembly in 2016. He had also raised money for a 2012 Assembly race. On both occasions, Martinez decided not to run. He now has a committee open to run in 2020.

Puppet Master Martinez is not running for office. He is running a corrupt machine politico who wants to run everyone else.

In 2015, Martinez’s campaign reported paying Macias for fundraising services, campaign filings show. Martinez’s financial disclosures show that among his donors was the company that received the city’s bus and dial-a-ride contracts, a legal services firm, towing contractors, and a vendor that provides street sweeping and bus stop maintenance.

Macias was also paid a $1,000 fundraising salary from another PAC run by Martinez called Saving Local Jobs, which also received contributions from city contractors.

However, that compensation was not based on commission. Stern said that  although it still raises conflict-of-interest concerns, they aren’t as serious.

In an interview with The Times, Macias confirmed several of the donors she raised money from.

Macias said she raised money from Erika Hernandez, wife of the general manager of the city’s bus and dial-a-ride contractor Metro Transit Services. Records show Hernandez donated $4,200 to Martinez’s campaign on May 29, 2015.

That month, Macias and the council majority voted to award Metro Transit the multimillion-dollar bus contract. A little over a year later, she voted to give the company a dial-a-ride contract worth more than $3 million.

Macias also voted for a contract amendment with the company that allowed it to lease new buses from the city. The five buses cost Huntington Park $260,000, but it leased them to Metro Transit Services for $100 a month per bus.

HUH?

The city’s finance director wrote in an email to the city manager that the bus leases were far below market value and “completely inappropriate.”

No kidding!

Macias also acknowledged raising donations from at least two others doing businesses with the city: Nationwide Environmental Services, the city’s street sweeping and bus stop maintenance vendor, and the owners of H.P. Automotive & Tow Service Inc.

Macias said she couldn’t recall other contributions from city contractors, or denied asking for them. The Times asked her for an example of a contribution she raised that was not associated with a city contractor. She couldn’t provide any and didn’t return phone calls following up on that request.

In the case of Nationwide Environmental Services, Macias made the motion in April to give the company a bus stop maintenance contract worth more than $111,000 over two other bidders for the contract.

Macias said she decided to get into the political fundraising business after her parents fell ill and she was forced to quit her day job to care for them. The consulting business is a way to make extra income, and she said she has ambitions to build a more successful company.

Sure she has ambitions -- to rip off everyone else and enrich herself.

She said she figured she could ask people she’s “gotten to know as a councilwoman” for the money. She said she told contractors she would be getting paid commissions for delivering the money, but she denied discussing city business with any of the contributors while asking them for money.

“That’s pretty much my approach to fundraising,” Macias said.

Martinez described Macias’ role differently. He said he initially made contact with all of the contributors and got them to commit to contributions. But, the most difficult part of fundraising is collecting on those commitments, so he dispatched Macias to be the “bill collector.”

WHAT?!

Macias’ job was to make sure those people wrote the checks and to collect them, Martinez said. She was paid a combination of commissions and salary for the work, he said.

In either case, the fundraising arrangement is problematic, government watchdogs say.

Problematic? How about criminal?!

Jessica Levinson, a lecturer at Loyola Law School and member of the Los Angeles Ethics Commission, said the commissions give the appearance of a conflict of interest.

“I would say it’s a very unusual setup, and one that raises the specter of where her alliances are,” Levinson said. “It looks like what it might be, which is a kickback scheme, but not necessarily an illegal one.”

Karina La Korrupta is using her connections to get rich, and it is shameful that she is hiding behind her ill parents to justify her corruption. What would her father and  mother say to such perversity?
