NPR Reports on Me: Housing is Not a Human Right

National Public Radio reported on the homelessness fight in Orange County last week.

It still astounds me that the Board would attempt to dump homeless people onto two toxic sites near homes, parks, and schools.

It's just untenable.

My statement that housing is not a human right got significant attention, too:

Patrick Hogan has never been able to rebound after losing his home during the financial crash 10 years ago. He worked temp agency jobs. But $10 an hour jobs doesn't cut it in one of the most expensive corners of the nation.

"Fortunately I had friends I could stay with for a few months, but when they sold their home, that was it," Hogan says.

He ended up camping along with hundreds of others in a sprawling tent city in a dried up riverbed.

"My experience has taught me one thing," Hogan says. "The most discriminated group of people, at least in America, are the poor."

It depends on the person who is poor, and it depends on the actions they take to tackle their poverty. There were speakers at the Board meeting who shared their plight as homeless individuals in the past, but had found ready employment and steady housing afterwards. Many people can get out of these crises, as long as they face the lies which they were raised with and embrace truth and restoration in their lives.

Many people are more likely to get off the street and into housing and employment when they start making choices and taking responsibility for their lives. Mr. Patrick Hogan is a testimony to this truism. It was not just "luck", but opportunity and ability which helped him.

Hogan could easily be the poster child of the Southern California homelessness crisis. As housing costs skyrocket, and the income inequality gap widens, the problem has spread from more traditional enclaves like Los Angeles into affluent coastal areas in places like Orange County.

"Poster child"? Huh? What is that supposed to mean? Let's not forget that this is an article published by National Public Radio, and they are left of center, as though equality should be the indispensable condition and outcome of any society.

No it shouldn't.

Orange County is now under federal pressure to address what homeless advocates in court filings have called a humanitarian crisis. A federal judge agreed. The tent city along the Santa Ana River where Hogan once stayed was cleared a month ago. The county was ordered to pay for hotel vouchers while new, permanent shelters are found or built.

These problems come from misapplied federal laws and state mandates which make the cost of living more expensive without providing relief and opportunity to those in greatest need.

Those vouchers are set to expire this week and it's not clear where people will go.

Who is paying for these vouches, by the way? A number of children at the Boatrd meeting as well as adults commented that many homeless people do not want help. Many of them are drug addicts or mentally ill with a different set of needs. A friend of mine has a homeless relative who was given so many opportunities and resources. She chose to remain poor, homeless, and on the street.

The county's proposed plan to relocate homeless people from Santa Ana to temporary shelters on county land in more affluent coastal cities like Irvine and Huntington Beach drew well-organized protests. On Tuesday, chartered buses ferried hundreds of local residents to protest outside the Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting.

There is hope for Orange County. We need middle-income earners to work just as hard organizing against this lawlessness all over the state. We need to see Moms and Dads work hard to pressure lawmakers and executives to put the needs of Americans first and stop blaming the rest of us

They chanted "No Tent City!" and waved signs that read "No Drugs Near Our Schools."

"Not all homeless people are bad but certain ones are," said Cheryl Nakano, of Irvine. "It's just not safe."

Nakano said this wasn't a "not in my backyard issue." She wants to see the county find a long-term solution to help the homeless: "Not just dumping them in tent cities."

Some protesters also said tackling homelessness has never been a top political priority in Orange County, one of the richest and traditionally more politically conservative counties in the United States.

Here we go: the liberal media slips out its bias once again, with no regard for the truth. Where are so many of these homeless people coming from, by the way? They are getting dumped in Orange County because of LA County and other liberal jurisdictions like ... Colorado! Yes, the police chief in El Segundo reported that many of the homeless in California are getting shipped to this state from other states who don't want to shoulder the cost.

"We're all sorry," said Todd Spitzer, Orange County supervisor, at a public hearing Tuesday. "We know we can do better, we're a smart county, we're an influential county, the nation is watching us."

But with protesters chanting outside, the county voted to rescind its plans — for now — to build three new emergency shelters. After the 4-0 vote, there was a chorus of boos mixing with loud applause.

Then came my statement, among many issued during public comment at the dias:

"Housing is not a human right," said Arthur Schaper.

Wearing a red "Make America Great Again" hat, Schaper spoke during a lengthy — and often heated — public comment period.

WRONG! I was wearing a "Make California Great Again!" cap. I am so glad to be part of the growing movement to Make California Great Again:

"Expecting the government to solve every single problem is precisely why we are in the mess we are right now."

I stand by those remarks, and no one is going to make me backtrack. The federal government imposes mandates without funding--and even if there is funding, it's not their money to begin with! The money belongs to individual cities and local governments based on their income and revenue. The homelessness crisis has gone from bad to worse precisely because of government burdens, impositions, and overreach. Any discussion of a communistic solution--declaring property a "right"--will only exacerbate the crisis.

Friends of mine in attendance at the meeting thanked me for making a point about property and housing as commodities, not "rights". Glad that I could speak out against that folly:

The supervisors did commit to fast-tracking spending of more than $50 million in previously unspent dollars to help the poor.

Meanwhile, a few blocks from the hearing, a large homeless encampment of worn tents and blue tarps remained intact in front of the Santa Ana courthouse. A policeman in a nearby squad car monitored the camp. Nearby, an official temporary county shelter was open and bustling inside a converted bus terminal. Dozens of people slept on row after row of cots. Some of the shelter's residents had stacked up their backpacks and shopping carts full of their belongings outside the entrance.

Final Reflection

It's good that more of us are getting the word out for everyone to see what we are doing. This communistic, socialistic impulse must be confronted at every turn. Where do people get this idea that everyone is entitled to property from someone else? That is an ideology of demand and destruction, based on greed and envy.

A free enterprise system provides the most equitable means for providing for the needs and wants of any community. If you want more in your life, then you need to be willing to work harder for it. It's as simple as that.

The homelessness crisis is man-made. The Democrats in Sacramento created this mess, and they own every bit of it. All the talk of expanding the size of the state and taking more from those who make will not fix these contentious issues in any way. I am glad that I could speak out against that "human right" insanity at the Board of Supervisors meeting.

The LGBT Wall is Coming Down: Bermuda Overturns Gay Marriage

The liberal media sites are really starting to get triggered. After the 2015 United Supreme Court Decision on gay marriage, most pro-family advocates feared the worst. The highest court in the land fundamentally altered the fundamental institution of our culture. The liberal press, academia, and entertainment industries were convinced of their consummate LGBT victory.

But this agenda is destructive.

Without Dads and Moms, without family, the whole civil order of our nation, of any nation disintegrates. The values, the ideas, the cultural norms which hold a country together erode until there is nothing left but raw power and a war of all against all.

Don't believe me? Read the histories of ancient Greco-Roman historian Polybius. When rampant homosexuality and other forms of license were permitted without check in those city-states, children were born to broken or non-existent families. Poverty increased, since single mothers have far less economic wealth than a two-parent home. Children without fathers turned to marauding gangs and terrorized neighborhoods. Eventually the Greek cities imploded and disappeared.


Families matter, marriage matters, and gay marriage is an onslaught on God's natural order and His goodness. It's also a stunning, devastating attack on our children and the future of any country. 
Now the good news.

In the little island nation of Bermuda, which exists as part of the British Commonwealth, the country's legislature and Governor took the extraordinary steps of overruling their own Supreme Court.

They struck down gay marriage!

They repealed it, as the perverse agenda had been imposed by judicial activist fiat.
National Public Radio reports:

Less than a year after legalizing same-sex marriage, Bermuda is reversing course, implementing a law that says same-sex couples can enter domestic partnerships but not marry.
The British territory is believed to be the first jurisdiction in the world to reverse course on same-sex marriage after permitting it, The Guardian writes.

In May 2017, Bermuda's Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage. Within months, the island's legislature passed a bill overturning that court decision, which was signed into law on Wednesday.

The Guardian is unabashedly center-left. Anyone can predict that they were going to throw a hysterical, heretical fit over this development.

Here's part of their account:

Walton Brown, Bermuda’s minister of home affairs, said the legislation signed by Governor John Rankin would balance opposition to same-sex marriage on the socially conservative island while complying with European court rulings that ensure recognition and protection for same-sex couples in the territory.

Am I happy with the country's accommodation of a secular European standard on equality? No. I am pleased, however, that a nation-state was not afraid to reject a corrupt redefinition of marriage, something which should have never happened, and certainly not through the arbitrary determination of a court.

Bermuda’s Senate and House of Assembly passed the legislation by wide margins in December and a majority of voters opposed same-sex marriage in a referendum.

Both parties found common ground on defending family.

“The act is intended to strike a fair balance between two currently irreconcilable groups in Bermuda, by restating that marriage must be between a male and a female while at the same time recognizing and protecting the rights of same-sex couples,” said Brown, whose ruling Progressive Labour party proposed the repeal.

What's really striking about this political outcome, though, is that the Progressive Labour Party is considered the center-left political force in the country, and yet they embrace social conservatism and led the fight to repeal gay marriage.

Bermuda Rejects Gay Marriage

This development is really something. The country actually repealed gay marriage! It can be done.


Another Caribbean newspaper reported other key details about this repeal:

The approval was welcomed by Brown, who said this British Overseas Territory would “continue to live up to its well-earned reputation as a friendly and welcoming place”.

 Nations should fight to show that they embrace God's natural order and welcome His grand design for life, marriage, and family.

The bill was debated by the House of Commons in London last month when Labour MP Chris Bryant, a former Overseas Territories Minister who is openly gay, called on Bermuda Premier David Burt and Brown to withdraw the legislation banning same-sex marriages in Bermuda.

Despite pressure from London politicians, the Bermuda government went through with the repeal. This is also good news, indicated that an attempt to force the LGBT agenda into every facet of private life is starting to lose steam. Perhaps the rising tide of Islamic extremism and moral decline in the British Commonwealth has refocused political priorities. How about the growing underclass of children struggling to survive and thrive in their own country?

Bryant, who admitted that he had been told to “butt out” in some of the messages he had received, told the Commons that there had been eight same-sex marriages in Bermuda and a further four banns published.

I liken this movement to the first break in the gay marriage evil empire, much like the cracks in the Berlin Wall when Germans on both sides of the artificial divide realized that the communist Soviet Union was collapsing, and there was nothing that the violent Soviet Politburu could do about it.
I can't wait to see more countries reverse course.

Homosexuals may agitate for some kind of recognize for their their artificial couplings, but they can never call their perversion "marriage". This is a small step towards victory, though, since more average citizens need to be informed about the deleterious consequences of homosexual behavior and the dissolution of marriage. The population bust, the proliferation of venereal diseases, the emotional and mental problems for younger generations who do not have stable homes: all of these issues must be brought out for the public to know.

For now, let's rest in the knowledge that one country stood up to its own supreme court and reversed the destructive, regressive redefinition of marriage!

Will other countries follow suit and stand up to the globalist Big LGBT Hate Machine? Let's hope so.

NPR Puts Compassion on Trial: "DACA Teachers Face Uncertain Future"

Why do we have to hear all these sob stories about illegal aliens in our country? Men and women who were brought into this country as children have no right to demand legal status or citizenship.

The fact that previous governments have unjustly complicated the immigration problem in this country with piece-meal amnesty does not justify throwing away the rule of law and the enforcement of our country's borders and sovereignty.

National Public Radio, however, is more interested in left-wing sound bites and talking points rather than discussion the truth about illegal immigration, the negative consequences imposed by illegal aliens displacing Americans, overwhelming our country's natural resources, and putting Americans' lives at risk.

Yet we still read the sob stories.

So, about 9,000 DACA teachers are going to be laid off.

Good!

There you have 9,000 positions that will open up for Americans to take. That's the way it should be.

Here's the story from National Public Radio--the same medium in which big names have stepped down because of their own spate of sexual misconduct.

Nearly 9,000 DACA Teachers Face An Uncertain Future

Maria Rocha, a third-grade teacher at the KIPP Esperanza Dual Language Academy in San Antonio, came to the U.S. from Mexico when she was 3 years old.

Let's go one step further. She didn't come to the United States on her own. Her parents brought her here. So what? She is in the country illegally, and she needs to be sent back to her home country.

Of the 690,000 undocumented immigrants now facing an uncertain future as Congress and President Trump wrangle over the DACA program are about 8,800 school teachers.

They should have never gotten those jobs, because President Obama should have never authorized such a corrupt, unconstitutional program in the first place.

The real possibility that they'll be deported if the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is allowed to expire has put enormous stress on them.

Too bad. What about the enormous stress placed on Americans? Our homeless, our veterans, and other at-risk populations deserve the attention of our local and state governments, not illegal aliens.

Maria Rocha, a teacher in San Antonio, Texas, says it's gut wrenching, but she's trying not to show it in front of her third-graders. Rocha has been teaching at KIPP Esperanza Dual-Language Academy for three years.

The KIPP Charter program needs to be investigated or defunded for taking those unconstitutional authorizations. THis is beyond outrageous.

It's even harder, she says, because some of her students are also at risk of being deported.

They have their parents, and those parents will return with the children to their home countries, and they can come back legally.

"It's a very touchy subject with 8-9 year olds," says Rocha. "But they're aware of this because they have family members who are undocumented themselves, so their families talk about it."

Undocumented" is not going to soft-pedal the truth that these individuals are in the country illegally, and therefore they have neither right nor entitlement to live here. The do not get to enjoy the civil rights which belong to American citizens.

Rocha says a first-grade teacher and colleague at the school self-deported late last year after her DACA permit expired. Everybody at the school took it really hard, says Rocha, but there was nothing anybody could've done.

Self-deportations are real, and they are happening all over the country. This fact stands in contrast to the lies repeated by illegal alien activists all over the country who claim that this country cannot deport all 11-16 million illegal aliens.

More of them will begin self-deporting when they realize that state and federal governments are fully enforcing our nation's laws. That will cut down on the time, costs, and resource uses which these traitors claim is such a costly hindrance to enforcement.

School districts in Texas and across the country have hired teachers covered by DACA on the condition that they renew their work permit every two years, as the program requires. But last September, after President Trump announced he was shutting down DACA, these teachers suddenly found the safety and security the program had offered up in the air.

They should have never had them in the first place. Why would the school districts hire these illegals in the first place? What an abuse of public funds. Someone needs to pass a law in Austin and every other state legislature to end the practice of hiring foreign nationals using unauthorized permits.

"I'm trying to remain positive and try to compose myself every day with my students, Rocha says, "because I talk to them about their future and yet I don't know my own."

She needs to join her colleagues and self-deport to her own country.

Rocha was a toddler when she and her grandmother left Coahuila, Mexico, and entered the U.S. illegally. In June 2012, right around the time Rocha turned 25, DACA went into effect. Rocha qualified and immediately her life changed.

How many other lives have been changed? Let's talk about Tierra Stansberry, who along four other Americans was murdered by an illegal alien "dreamer" named Johnny Josue Sanchez. Those families will never see their children again. What about their dreams?

What about Ruben Morfin, Drew Rosenberg, Jamiel Shaw Jr., Dominic Durden, Ronald de Silva, and the average of 25 Americans a day murdered by illegal aliens in our own country? Their situation is worse than deportation to another country. They are dead, and there is no longer a country on this earth for them.

"I was living in the shadows because of fear," she says. "I didn't want my family targeted because they're also undocumented. But with DACA I was no longer afraid."

Americans are living in the shadows today because our needs, our concerns for public safety are not being met. Police officers are ordered to stand down when Antifa thugs attack innocent civilians.

Before then, Rocha had been working as a housekeeper while holding down two other jobs to pay for her college education.

Most Americans have been unable to get work because illegal aliens have been undercutting the job market, forcing down wages with the abundance of labor.

When she graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Texas-San Antonio, it was the fulfillment of a childhood dream — to be a teacher.

Now she can be a teacher in Mexico or any other country where she can legally immigrate too. Nothing is necessarily preventing her dreams. She can still pursue them in Mexico. What about our American Dreamers?

"I just purchased my first car in December," says Rocha. "We've done things the right way. We were told to go to school, make a career. But now we're at the mercy of the stroke of a pen."

Blame Barack Obama for leaving you at the mercy of a pen. He had no right to authorize that corrupt executive order in the first place. It's not the fault of the American public that Mexico turned into a failed state, and that therefore citizens in that country have refused to take up arms and fight back.

Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg of the Legal Aid and Justice Center, an advocacy group in Virginia, says that if lawmakers don't restore DACA, Rocha and people like her will be forced to recede back into the shadows.

They should be forced to return to their home countries. Rocha herself just reported that her colleagues self-deported. The New York Times followed the story of a handful of illegals in different states, and all of them packed up their lives and moved to their home countries. They managed just fine.

"We're talking about huge numbers of people with work permits, who've built a solid working class or middle class existence," he says, "who will immediately be punched into poverty."

No they have not. Illegal aliens commit disproportionately more crimes. They are heavily dependent on government benefits.

Some legal experts say the courts could still intervene. Teachers unions and the National School Boards Association for example are backing a lawsuit filed last month in New York that could prevent school districts from firing teachers whose DACA permits expire.

Not going to happen. The DOJ already fast-tracked their appeal against a San Francisco district court ruling, and they will do the same with a New York state challenge, too.

Maria Rocha says she survived before DACA and she'll survive after DACA.

Exactly. She needs to get busy making her life ready for herself in her home country. She can make it.

Rocha says she's thought about quitting her graduate studies. "Why continue to work if my work permit is going to expire? But no one is ever going to un-educate me."

"Mama dice que es ser bendecida," Rocha says in Spanish: My mom says I'm blessed, because of DACA.

Now, the question is, will lawmakers in Washington see it that way?

Nope, especially the Democratic Party, which has no other interest than perpetuating their power at the expense of everyone else.

Final Reflection

It's time for Congress to cut government funding to National Public Radio.
