Colorado MassResistance Victory! Forces School District to End Access to Porn on School Website

Colorado MassResistance parents force public school system to stop offering access to pornographic databases – after two-year fight!

Threat of lawsuit - organized by MR Chapter including dozens of people and support of State Legislators – forced school system to surrender.

A big victory – but more fights ahead.

September 12, 2018
ALT TEXTFrom the Denver area TV evening news.
A Colorado school district notorious for giving children access to pornography has surrendered, thanks to the unrelenting efforts of our Colorado MassResistance chapter. After a two-year fight, the Cherry Creek School District in suburban Denver has announced that it is completely discontinuing the use of the EBSCO research database. The announcement came as a number of Colorado citizens, with the blessing of several State Representatives, were about to file a lawsuit against the school district.

Hardcore pornography for middle and high school students

The EBSCO database is contracted by schools ostensibly to help middle school and high school students with homework and research. The school district gave every student personal access to its EBSCO portal.
But in 2016, Cherry Creek parents Robin and Drew Paterson (who head Colorado MassResistance) discovered that the EBSCO database also gives access to large amounts of sickening hardcore pornography (much of it homosexual) which students could easily find. Much of it is through embedded advertisements or other links luring kids.
Here are some less explicit samples of what the Cherry Creek Schools were leading children to:

ALT TEXTThere was lots of this kind of thing luring students.
The Patersons were shocked to find this and they were determined not to ignore it.

The school district’s appalling reaction

When the Patersons began to notify several Cherry Creek school authorities in August 2016 and emailed them screenshots, etc., they were just ignored at first. Then the school officials denied that these links existed.
But the Patersons persisted. In September 2016, they were actually threatened. A school official telephoned their home and told them, “If you keep contacting people, something’s going to happen to you that neither one of us is going to like.”
The Patersons refused to be intimidated. After that, officials admitted that some pornography had been there, but claimed they’d already fixed it. But the Patersons began to find even more (and worse) pornography on the school’s system. The officials then blamed the Patersons for not having a good Internet filter!
As the Patersons continued demanding answers, the school officials became extremely hostile to them and spread ugly rumors about them being troublemakers. They were rude and condescending to them at parents’ meetings and School Board meetings. They would never give the Patersons a straight answer about anything.
At the same time, the Patersons were expanding the Colorado MassResistance chapter, organizing, publishing a newsletter, and holding meetings.

The dreadful larger picture emerges

During this time Robin Paterson (who is a PhD researcher) began to find that the local libraries also had EBSCO database portals available to any child who wanted to use them! When she confronted the librarians and library Boards, they were either indifferent or hostile, and refused to deal with the problem.
Even worse, she was finding that public schools across the United States (and even in foreign countries) had similar EBSCO databases with easy links to pornography. In fact, it was easy for anyone to log in to most schools’ sites and access the porn. See our report: Colorado MassResistance continues to expose and confront massive tax-funded pornography targeting youth in high schools, middle schools, and public libraries.
On a number of occasions, she contacted EBSCO and spoke to executives there. The company itself does not hide the fact that it is a “pro-LGBT” company and encompasses a wide range of subject matter including pornography. She never got any satisfactory answers. But it became clear that EBSCO also seemed to have business and contractual reasons for including the pornography, albeit secret.
According to one source, EBSCO provides online research databases to over 55,000 elementary, middle schools and high schools across the country. It markets its databases for school children as age-appropriate and reliable. But unknown to most parents, the databases are anything but safe or kid-friendly.
As the reports of this got out, particularly regarding the Cherry Creek School District, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation took note and named EBSCO to both its 2017 and 2018 “Dirty Dozen List” of the worst twelve corporations in America that perpetuate sexual exploitation.

A lawsuit takes shape – and Cherry Creek Schools suddenly back down

For much of this year Colorado MassResistance parents were told by Cherry Creek schools that they were “working with EBSCO” to fix the problem. After over a year of pressure, they had at least been finally forced to admit that the pornography was there all along. But nothing really changed – except to get worse.
Then a few months ago, the pro-bono pro-family law firm Thomas More Society agreed to represent the parents against the Cherry Creek School District for its refusal to stop distributing pornography to children.
The Colorado MassResistance parents gathered approximately 60 people, including some members of the Colorado Family Foundation, to be co-plaintiffs in the suit. They also earned the enthusiastic support of several conservative State Representatives.
The Thomas More Society had a lawsuit prepared and ready for filing within days when word came last Friday that Cherry Creek School District announced it would discontinue its contract with EBSCO – apparently to avoid the lawsuit.
“We don’t know if Cherry Creek had any information about the lawsuit being prepared,” said Thomas More Society Senior Counsel Matt Heffron.  “But we weren’t being very secretive about it. There were many people who were aware it was in the works.”
It’s believed that Cherry Creek officials feared what the “discovery” process would reveal about their tactics.
And this isn’t the first school to drop EBSCO since the fight became public. According to the local TV report, “Denver dropped EBSCO on June 30 and Douglas County (CO) dropped them last year. We don't know if that happened because of the fight in Cherry Creek.”

The fight must continue – in schools and libraries across America

While this is a major milestone, the Colorado MassResistance parents do not consider their efforts in Colorado to be finished. At the very least, they will continue to monitor the situation in the Cherry Creek School District.
“But everyone needs to realize,” said Dr. Paterson, “EBSCO still is supplying its pornographic databases to children in school districts -- and libraries – across Colorado and across America. So we’re not done yet.”
Unfortunately, even as this continues to be exposed and fought against, degenerate school administrators and library officials will likely continue to be a part of the problem, and vulnerable children be the tragic victims. This is probably what outrages parents the most.

Colorado MassResistance Exposes Massive Porn Operation in Public Schools (Explicit Content)

Colorado MassResistance continues to expose and confront massive pornography operation targeting youth in high schools, middle schools, and public libraries.

MR activists directly confront officials in schools, libraries, and corporations. But officials refuse to stop it!

Sickening material - Extremely disturbing behavior from officials in charge.

October 6, 2017

Almost all parents are completely unaware of the pornography that schools are making available to their children. Colorado MassResistance is exposing it!
[Caution: Images below may be disturbing]
Our Colorado MassResistance chapter has been very active! (There’s so much that we’ll summarize it here, and then follow up with in-depth reports.)

Since our big exposé back in February, Colorado MassResistance activists have continued to uncover the graphic and sickening pornography (including homosexual pornography) being purposefully made available to children in high schools, middle schools, and public libraries across America. The pornography is generously included in so-called “research” database portals placed in the school and library websites. These portals are regularly used by schools for homework assignments and are referred to in public libraries as “homework” resources.

This is a very tame example of some of the "information" for children and students in the "research" portals in schools and libraries that we easily found.
These portals are provided and maintained by national corporations such as EBSCO and GALE, for which schools and libraries pay thousands of taxpayer dollars per year.
In addition to hardcore pornography, these “research” databases are filled with articles promoting extreme and radical left-wing causes such as the legalization of prostitution, easing or repeal of sex-offender laws, and lowering the age of consent for sex. They also include a vast amount of advertising for a bizarre range of sex-related “toys” and paraphernalia.

This is some of the "research" that the EBSCO portal provides for children in schools and libraries.

Since these databases are targeted to children and students, parents virtually never see them. But it’s fairly easy for students to get to even the most hardcore and destructive material.

Colorado MassResistance leads the fight

The Colorado MassResistance activists have been leading the fight. They started when they found this in their local Colorado schools. But the battle is really nationwide. Last month, just before their September meeting, the group summarized their work over the past several months in a newsletter sent out to activists across the state. You can read it here.

The latest Colorado MassResistance newsletter

Here’s what the Colorado MassResistance team has been doing:
  1. Colorado MassResistance parents have documented the contents of these portals, in high schools, middle schools and public libraries in Colorado. They have also documented it in libraries and schools in dozens of states across the country.
  2. They have personally presented this documentation to local school officials, school board members, and public library board in the Denver area, and also to various state officials and state legislators.
  3. After presenting the documentation, they have confronted the school and library and demanded that the pornography be removed.
  4. They have also confronted corporate officials at the national companies which create these databases and sell them to the schools and libraries, for the intended purpose of use by children and students.
  5. They have also contacted numerous media outlets and other national conservative groups to get the public informed about this. After much effort, this was covered to some extent in a few Denver TV newscasts. It was also covered in some conservative media, by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.
  6. They have contacted school PTOs and other parent groups in the schools where this was happening.
  7.  They have asked prominent pro-family legal groups to intervene, possibly with an injunction or lawsuit.
The Colorado MassResistance group has covered a lot of ground in this fight!

An uphill battle

The reaction of virtually all the school and library officials involved has been very shocking. In fact, it’s been almost beyond our ability to fathom.

They simply don’t care. They don’t deny that the terrible images and other pornographic material we found are there and available to children. It just doesn’t bother them. And occasionally, they’ve become hostile and even threatening towards the parents for bringing it up. School officials have even accused the parents of “just liking to look at pornography”.
So the schools and libraries adamantly refuse to remove these portals. They claim that the “research” is too valuable, or some other excuse. On a few occasions, schools have gone through the motions of asking the database companies to remove some of the offensive material, but then it often re-appears later. Or they tell parents that their Internet filters are doing the job. But it’s easy to find out that’s simply not true, especially with these portals. Even more troubling is that some of the media officials at these schools and libraries appear to be LGBT activists themselves, and support the promotion of this material.

The corporate officials are even worse. To them, including pornography and ads for pornographic devices is profitable. They have a financial incentive not to remove it. On various occasions they have promised the parents they would scale it back, but any change has been imperceptible.

The PTOs and other school-based parent groups have all refused to get involved, even when confronted with the evidence. They seem afraid of the issue, or of confronting school officials. This has been the most disappointing of all.

The mainstream media outlets, being liberal, have usually avoided covering this. A few times the local TV stations have, though they tend to show the least offensive material and water it all down.

State officials in Colorado, including members of the Legislature and others, on the other hand, have been genuinely outraged and have started to be quite helpful. We will continue to work with them.

Pro-family legal groups we’ve worked with understand and appreciate the problem. But they have been a bit slow in coming up with a strategy to effectively deal with it.

But much progress is being made

The pressure on all these officials is continuing. They are increasingly uncomfortable with Colorado MassResistance’s unrelenting confrontations and growing publicity. This is so horrible that when it breaks open, it will really break open. Eventually we will definitely win this.

More reports on this coming

This is the overview of what’s been happening. The individual stories behind this, which we are preparing to post, are very interesting and informative.

Of everything that we have covered over the years regarding the attacks on children and teens, this may be the worst. It really boggles the mind. Colorado MassResistance is really on the front lines! There’s much more to come.
