Culture Guard demands NDP turf Peter Julian for lying and
anti-Christian bigotry
Oct. 4, 2019
(CultureGuard) — Culture Guard executive director Kari Simpson has written to NDP Leader Jagmeet
Singh, demanding that he discipline the NDP’s New Westminster-Burnaby
candidate, Peter Julian, for religious bigotry, for sabotaging the right of the
faith communities to participate in the democratic process, and for making
false accusations against the pastor of a New Westminster church.
“NDP candidate
Peter Julian has ignited a war against civil Canadians and has exposed the
contempt, bigotry and hatred some members of the NDP party has for the faith
community. It’s time to clean house and end the hypocrisy” says Simpson.
NDP candidate
Peter Julian went to social media the night before an “all candidates” meeting
that was being held at the Justice Institute of BC, hosted by six New
Westminster churches. Julian hysterically and falsely claimed on his Facebook
page that a respected pastor, Paul Dirks, was organizing a “platform for hate.”
His lies and
defamatory comments didn’t stop there. Julian, determined to sabotage the
event, used his Facebook page to incite others to vilify and malign Dirks; he
tagged the other participating candidates in his post and solicited them to
“stand up against hate” and to refuse the invitation.
All candidates
except for the Libertarian Party's Neeraj Murarka and People's Party of
Canada's Hansen Ginn, took the bait and cowardly acquiesced to Julian's
bullying. Going above and beyond, Neeraj and Hansen went to the JIBC that
evening to meet with any constituents who hadn't received notification of
the cancellation.
Peter Julian
didn’t stop there. In an interview with the New Westminster Record he admits to
contacting the Justice Institute of BC, and he also incited others to do the
same. Hours before the scheduled event, the Justice Institute breached their
contract and cancelled the booking.
Simpson said she
wonders if Peter Julian has ever heard Paul Dirks speak. She has, and says she
has never heard any words that could justify the assertions made by Julian.
“Julian is a liar, a bully and a religious bigot.,” Simpson says. “He
apparently feels he has the right to violate the BC Human Rights code. But
regrettably for him, ‘feelings’ don’t trump the law. Peter Julian is going
to be challenged to justify his statements.”
Peter
Julian also stated, falsely, that Pastor Dirks was the ‘organizer’ of the
all-candidates meeting planned at the Justice Institute of BC. Pastor Dirks was
one of several people organizing the event from the six sponsoring New West
Churches.
“Peter
Julian is apparently an advocate of the ‘cancel culture’ that is undermining
democracy all over North America today,” Simpson said. “He and other ‘cancel
culture’ bullies, instead of welcoming open and respectful discussion on
important issues, resort to ‘de-platforming’ anyone they disagree with. Why?
Because they have no intelligent answers to bring to the debate. So, cowardly,
they lobby to have public venues like the BC Justice Institute dishonour contracts,
to cancel meetings, just because they’re unable to defend their bigoted views.
“The NDP, if it
allows Peter Julian to continue to stand as its representative in New
Westminster-Burnaby, is brushing aside Canada’s legal protections for protected
groups and our civil society, and declaring that it favours fascist bullying
tactics, lies, deception and religious bigotry rather than free speech,”
challenges Simpson, in her letter to Singh.
“Mr. Singh, do
you condone the silencing of opponents by shutting down meetings? Do you
support Peter Julian’s tactics of lies and defamation of a respected pastor to
sabotage a public event? Do you approve of Peter Julian’s incitement of
hatred and contempt for the faith communities—or is it just limited to the Christian
community? Sir, you have a serious problem on your hands. You owe Pastor
Paul Dirks, the other churches involved in this event and all Canadians an
apology; are you going to apologize and discipline this rogue
bigot?”
Culture Guard is
asking concerned citizens to contact NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and demand that
he force Peter Julian to resign as NDP candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby.
