Yes, I just unsubscribed from Marco Rubio's email list.

I know, I know, I liked him, too; but something's changed about him. I think he got in with the wrong crowd there in the Senate.

I hope he comes around, but this time around, he's just not my guy...

Viva Ted Cruz.

I had to come to the same place first about Bobby Jindal. He never gained the needed traction, and therefore never raised the money needed to compete nationally and for the long term. Now I can say the same for Marco Rubio.

I have young Hispanic conservative friends. They really like him. They like his story. His upcoming life from a working class family to the US Senate is an inspiring account for all young people, regardless of their initial status or color.

For me, the issue with Rubio is more than his stance on immigration, which seems more like a dance from one side to the other. His lack of leadership goes beyond his primarily legislative record, both in Florida and in the United States.

He does not have core principles on which to act and decide, regardless of the opinions of others. In debate after debate, he seems to lead from behind on policy matters. The moderators practically dictate to him how to answer.

Executives must make bold decisions, for good or for bad. They have to bear out a consistent record, based on character and conviction.

When it comes to Rubio, I just don't see those necessary elements.

Lots of people like the junior senator because he is electable. He is magnetic, or personable, or at least the least offensive Republican Presidential candidate who is Hispanic.

This is the best that Republican voters can look forward to? I disagree.

I had to pull the plug on the Rubio account.

Now -- I want to be clear and on record -- I will vote for Marco Rubio if he is the nominee. He has strong foreign policy credentials. He is pro-life, pro-second amendment. On many issues, he stands to the right, in the right, and has the right to speak.

 

Anti-Jewish Journal Begs for Money

The Jewish Journal (JJ) based in Western Los Angeles, is one of the most liberal, offensive rags left in publication in the great LA area. Conservative Jewish friends of mine cannot stand reading the paper, due to its shrilly, shrilly liberal tone, content, and agenda.

Why this paper has lasted as long as now should raise more questions. The paper is not doing a real service to the Jewish communities throughout Southern California. The moral relativism and abject leftism of the editorial board, coupled with their repeated attacks against conservatives and Republicans, have turned away readers in distinct numbers.

Now the paper is begging for donations.

David Suissa asks: "What's a dollar a month worth?"

More than the Anti-Jewish Journal. Suissa claims that people love to read JJ, and yet:

Of course, none of this comes cheap. It costs a lot of money to hire reporters, to print and distribute thousands of papers each week, and to stay current on the Web. So, to use our CFO Adam Levine’s favorite question: “Are you sure we can afford all this?”

Well, that depends on you — which is why I’m writing this Thanksgiving column.

 The JJ cannot maintain costs. Is anything that they publish really worth reading?

Pineda Goes After Amezquita's Stipend

Huntington Park Councilman Jhonny Pineda will stop at nothing to hurt the efforts and resources of the one honest city council member in Huntington Park: Valentin Amezquita.

Know as "Val" to his friends, Councilman Amezquita voted against appointing the two illegal aliens to city commissions. He has addressed the city council during public comment as a member of the community, not just as an elected official.

Unlike the other four members, who take direction from political machines and mafia miscreants, Amezquita has brought up issues relating to public safety, balanced financing, and proper use and investment of city resources.

Pineda is using this city council seat to advance a hateful, anti-American agenda, subverting the rule of law, misusing city time and resources, and promoting himself instead of the best interests of the city.

At the December First, 2015 city council meeting, during the final council comment portion, Pineda suggested to the city manager and his cronies that they start deducting Amezquita's salary because he has missed two city council meetings.

Why did the one honest councilmember not attend two meetings? Does his absence in those instances justify punishing him with less pay?

Councilman  Amezquita did not attend one meeting because his niece's husband passed away. They had recently married, and she was expecting twins. She was going through a very hard time, and Valentine needed to be there for her.

The second absence was a business trip to China to bring economic development to the city. He discussed the high rises, the economic expansion, the number of cranes and buildings growing throughout the country. He affirmed that trip came out of his pocket, not the city's

It was government business.

Yet Pineda wants to cut his pay.

Why not demand that the other city council members lose their salaries, because of their corruption, incompetence, and cronyism? Their blatant disregard of the law alone should disqualify any of them receiving any money.

Contact the city councilmembers, and tell them to stop harassing their good colleague, and start obeying the law:

1. Rescind the appointments of the two illegal aliens to city commissions.

2. Step down from office.

3. Send the message throughout the state and the country: cities are for citizens.

I Choose Ted Cruz for President

For Election 2016, I set deliberate metrics in my mind for supporting Republican Presidential candidates. I wanted to avoid the personal mistakes of Election 2012, whose weak field resulted in a weak frontrunner. I struggled to get behind that candidate, whom I had disparaged as DOA for months. I resolved never to disparage or denigrate candidates so that I could vote for them should my first pick fail.

This year, the bench of contenders is engaging, encouraging, and refreshing. From the outset, I had outlined Scott Walker, then Bobby Jindal for my Top Two: consummate conservative executives who turned their states around, cut the spending, and enacted far-reaching reforms. Tested leadership experience is essential. Commanding a state and protecting citizens commands more respect than directing office staff in the US Senate building.

Then Walker walked away. Bad consulting doomed his bid, sources suggested, with excessive spending in multi-state operations. I was holding out for Jindal, who worked the Iowa precincts, and stunned the media and main street with bold pronouncements. Jindal never lost his jingle, but the diminished jangle of campaign donations also forced him to quit. Let’s face it: unless a governor gets national headlines on a constant basis, and contends with talking heads in national media markets, he will struggle to gain traction.

So, who occupies Schaper’s second string of Presidential contenders? Mind you, second tier does not means second rate. It’s all about the conservative who is the most electable, and there are a lot of electable conservatives in the GOP field. The next three for me: Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, then Carly Fiorina.

As of today, I choose Ted Cruz. In a way, Jindal made it easier for me. He was lagging in money and polling, so his electability was non-existent. I was prepared to jump ship. The next day, Jindal dropped out. Besides, I have had a strong affinity for Cruz for a long time.

Granted, I detailed his drawbacks compared to Walker:

Brilliant and bombastic, his political theatrics have not proved as effective as Tea Party fellow Paul, but he can debate to silent defeat the most ardent of liberals. However, he lacks Walker’s savvy to unity distinct interests within the Republican Party. Presidential candidates must transition from firing up the base to winning over quizzical independents and intrigue disaffected Democrats. Walker worked with colleagues, increased their numbers and influence in Madison. Cruz as political celebrity is magnetic, but does not draw otherwise differing political forces. He remains one of the most hated members of the US Senate.

At this point, I want a leader, not a compromiser. If he doesn’t wheel and deal with other US Senators, all the better.  Is Cruz incapable of uniting distinct GOP factions? Cruz’ debate performances changed my perception. Democrats watching the CNBC firing squad agreed with Cruz, that the questions were biased, arbitrary, and unfair, and they tweeted their support on The View! I do not agree with the jittery naysayers, who claim that Cruz is too conservative, and cannot win a general election. They said the same thing about Ronald Reagan, and Cruz is better than Barry Goldwater. Besides, the 1964 champion of liberty was running against a Vice President who replaced a popular (conservative) president savagely assassinated. No one in the country was going to switch gears after such tragedy.

Cruz is more experienced than most primary partisans realize, too. A former clerk for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, a George W; Bush consultant, and a successful Texas Solicitor General, Cruz won his Senate seat as the outsider against an Establishment pick in a year when Obama’s ground game snuffed out otherwise worthy Republicans across the country. He even stomped on a Democratic challenger with similar legal credentials, all while picking up 40% of the Hispanic vote. A team player with broader vision than one race, he discussed the growing need for Republican outreach to Hispanic communities before his election win.

Four years later, US Senator Cruz has shocked the Washington Establishment , as well as the New York money markets and Los Angeles media machines. He talked for twenty-two hours against the funding of Obamacare. I watched it, I loved it, and I wish that it never ended. He has bested the Wall Street-DC phalanx begging for easy bailouts, crony influence, and corporate welfare. Big Government hits a brick wall with Cruz, a supporter of individual liberty, limited government, and constitutional rule. No other candidate has his profile published on free copies of the United States Constitution, a testimony to Cruz’ commitment to the rule of law in our political culture.

Further to his credit as a leader, Cruz announced his Presidential bid first, and has stayed strong ever since. With the endorsements of Congressman Steve King of Iowa and my favorite rep Dana Rohrabacher of California, the rising conservative maverick is winning the ground game and top tier support. He can out-debate his colleagues, but has stopped hecklers in their tracks. He shut down a Hollywood mouthpiece Ellen Page at an Iowa state fair. His masterful debate (hardly an interview) with Jorge Ramos inspired so many.

In California, moderates and conservatives, former state party chairmen and local county leaders are lining up with Cruz. He has a well-spring of support much wider than the press would care for anyone to believe. His numbers are rising in Iowa, South Carolina, and he is one of the top four in Public Policy Polling. Cruz is developing campaign organizations in otherwise unthinkable locales like Massachusetts, a smooth operator planning for the long haul, taking in support along the way, spending his money wisely for the win. US News and World Report claimed that a Cruz candidacy would be a boon for the Democrats (not likely), and National Review’s Henry Olsen thinks Cruz won’t win, conservatives leery of Donald Trump’s bombast and Carson’s shaky foreign policy credentials are eying the junior US Senator from Texas, and like what they see.

For today, I choose Ted Cruz for President.  

Preliminary Remarks Huntington Park City Council Meeting -- 12/01/2015

December First, 2015. Huntington Park,CA

In spite of a long-standing cold and the sniffles, I showed up to the city council meeting. I looked forward to seeing Valentin once again, who had been away on a business trip for the city to increase trade with Huntington Park and improve the local economy.

Before the meeting, I met with Nick the Greek. He was glad to see me, so that I could help him wiht something. He reregistered as a Republican. The restoration has begun. Good times are getting better in Huntington Park, a city which has been a long-time Democratic stronghold (or strangle-hold) at the expense of law-abiding citizens who just want the city and state governments to do their jobs representing the best interests of the legal residents.

At the city council meeting, a large number of young people arrived to receive an award. They were fighting for environmental justice, according to one of the members. I spoke with this young group for about five minutes, talking about the issues facing the city, and why We the People Rising had been attending the meetings for the last four months. The students were respectful. The leader of the group informed me that some of the students spoke out on behalf of the two illegal appointments.

More of us working against the rogue city council recognize that we need to reach out to all members of the community, and show them how the city's corruption and mismanagement is hurting everyone.

When the city council meeting began, I noticed that one of the appointed illegals, Julian Zatarain, had arrived. What was he doing there? He is not a legal resident, and we have continued putting on the pressure, demanding enforcement of the rule of law.

It has often bothered me that the city council members open up their  meetings with a prayer to God. What god are they praying to? They do not honor the Word, the obviously have never read the Bible. Their actions routinely flout and offend civic culture and civil discourse. Sandra Orozco commented, and I thought fitly, that they are praying to the Devil. There certainly are a growing number of wicked forces at work in that city.

The city council had their usual parade of presentations and awards. In two rare and illegal moves, the city attorney informed the council that they could reject a request for public comment on a presentation. That is against the law. They then brokered the public comment by a motion, with comments on the agenda first, and public comment on non-agenda items last.

They never cease to amaze the upstanding citizens in the audience. They keep trying to shut us down and shove us off to the side. We are not going anywhere.

During their closed session, viewers in their homes indicated that the cameras were still rolling, and that residents of the city could see everyone in the chambers. We all rushed to the cameras to show our signs demanding recall and arrest of the four rogue councilmembers.

The closed session lasted an an unusually long period that night. With the time available for us, I approached the one illegal, Julian Zatarain. We told him how We the People Rising went on our enforcement tour. He seemed willing to listen. We reminded him that because we are a nation of laws. He admitted his understanding about this issue. We then pressed on him why he was not doing the right thing, by becoming a legal resident. His response: "I am trying."

OK, fine. He needs to get that right first, then become a city commissioner. We told him as much, and kept emphasizing the necessity to follow the law. I shared with the members of our group and the audience that many friends of mine came to the United States legally not just to look for a better job, but to escape the lawlessness and corruption.

Zatarain grew uncomfortable with our queries, then tried to flee the council chambers. I followed him, and Robin Hvidston with camera in hand recorded us. He tried to flee into a discussion room, then one of the city staffers escorted him into another room. Such cowardice. For a man who stood boldly before the cameras and paraded his illegal status and appointment to the city commission, what has happened to him now?

After an overextended closed sessions, the Huntington Park City Council members returned to open session. The council proceeded through the agenda items, for which the council refuses to offer or permit public comment. When public comment finally began, we were all ready to share our concerns and thoughts at length.

No one in the audience spoke on behalf of the illegal appointments. As more of us protested their decision and shamed them for their wilfull disregard of the law, Mayor Macias suddenly announced a five minute recess -- which actually lasted much longer. They violated the Brown Act once again, having a serial meeting outside of the public's viewing and hearing.

One of the most damaging revelations of the night came from former city councilmember Linda Caraballo, who not called out their illegal actions and  maneuvers, but exposed the lesbian behaviors of the three women sitting on the city council: Marilyn Sanabria, Graciela Ortiz, and mayor Karina Macias.

They city council is cracking under our constant pressure for the rule of law. We are not going to give up our fight, because we are fighting for values and principles of eternal quality, which cannot budge nor be taken away by legislative or judicial fiat.

My Comments to Huntington Park City Council -- December 1, 2015

Good Evening Huntington Park City Council:

My name is Arthur Schaper, citizen, journalist, lobbyist. Yes Yes Yes! 

I want to comment today in regards to the rude, offensive, and unprofessional remarks of the city attorney, who should be terminated just for allowing this council to appoint two illegals to city commissions. He should be removed for his numerous contacts, friendships and terminations from other cities, as well, but I only have three minutes. 

He claimed that this council is a business meeting. Not a pep rally or a high school football game. First of all, if this city council was conducting proper business, they would be obeying the law. They would not violate federal and state law appointing two illegals to city commissions. They would not throw out citizens for speaking out against these bad decisions. They would not wait for residents in the city to complain before removing a marijuana dispensary close to residences and schools. 

Second of all, this is very much a pep rally, in that We the People are demanding enforcement, respect, and accountability from all elected officials. City commissions and all other positions of trust belong to legal residents, and no one else. We are rallying for our Constitution, for honor and deference to citizenship, to the values which uphold equal rights for all, special privileges for none. Last of all, please do not insult high school football players. Unlike the city attorney and this council, they play by the rules, the play to win fairly, and those individual players must comply with set regulations in order to compete. 

Now, I want to talk a little bit more about citizenship. Citizenship is more than a word. Citizenship speaks of a legacy. Citizenship speaks of honor and respect. The word implies rights and privileges which do not belong to those who are not citizens. It brings with it protection and enforcement. When Paul the apostle was unjustly beaten and then imprisoned, he simply declared: “I am a citizen of Rome! I appeal to Caesar!” The legal authorities had to relent and bring him at their expense to the court of Caesar. 

When an American citizen was kidnapped in Morocco, President Teddy Roosevelt demanded his safe return, without ransom. He summoned the entire navy to his aid when needed. 

Citizenship is a status which deserves recognition and merit, which carries with it. The Department of Homeland Security provides this caveat to citizenship: 

The decision to apply is a significant one. Citizenship offers many benefits and equally important responsibilities. By applying, you are demonstrating your commitment to this country and our form of government. 

The website includes this list of rights which come with citizenship: 

Freedom to express yourself. Freedom to worship as you wish. Right to a prompt, fair trial by jury. Right to vote in elections for public officials. Right to apply for federal employment requiring U.S. citizenship. Right to run for elected office. Freedom to pursue “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” 

These values mean nothing if individuals are allowed to take away positions of public trust and responsibility without the status of citizen. There are responsibilities which come with citizenship, too: 

Support and defend the Constitution. Stay informed of the issues affecting your community. Participate in the democratic process. Respect and obey federal, state, and local laws. Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others. Participate in your local community. Pay income and other taxes honestly, and on time, to federal, state, and local authorities. Serve on a jury when called upon. Defend the country if the need should arise. 

And that is what We the People, citizens of this country, are doing!

Nick Ioannidis of Huntington Park, CA Ditches Dems, Joins the GOP

Nick Ioannidis, aka Nick the Greek in America, is one of the proudest Americans around.

In 1969, he left his native Greece, a country heading toward dictatorship, caught between the Cold War of aggressive Russia and feckless Europeans states. Nick came to this country with a quarter in his pocket, and went from poverty to prosperity, benefiting this country and securing the blessings of liberty for himself and his children. A tailor with panache like no other, he clothes his residents with skill, and wears his patriotism with honor.

He is an icon for all immigrants who seek the American Dream, especially for those who seek it legally.

Today, in Huntington Park, CA, his home for the last four decades, he has faced nothing but attacks and disrespect from the rogue city council and political corrupt cronies who run the city.

Illegal immigration is not only rampant in California, but has overrun Huntington Park, where nearly half the residents are not legal residents.

Yet despite Nick's love for country and respect for the law, the city council has reneged on deal after deal to compensate him for reconstruction on his tailor shop. Residents have assaulted and threatened him. When he reported criminal incidents acts against himself and his property, one police officer told him: "Move to Florida!"

Nick the Greek reregisters GOP

One of the benefits of citizens is the right to vote, and when Nick became a citizen in 1975, he registered as a Republican, likely because the Democratic platform resembled the socialism which he and other European migrants fled in the 1960s and 1970s. In the interest of honoring his adopted homeland and celebrating immigrants who make the United States their refuge from tyranny, Ioannidis sought out his Congressman, to create a public law for Immigrants Day, October 28, to be celebrated throughout the country.

The Congressman pressured him, however, to switch his party registration to Democrat in exchange for passage of the law. What kind of a representative would do such a thing? Nevertheless, Nick the Greek acquiesced, and changed his registration.

Forty years later, Nick the Greek has faced nothing but disappointment, neglect, and outright dismissal from Democratic politicians, local, state and federal. They have done nothing to help him with securing his building, or building his business. They have not supported his efforts to promote legal immigration, or love of country.

Ioannidis even allowed the current corrupt Mayor Karina Macias to use his tailor shop as a campaign headquarters. How does she reward him? By appointing two illegal aliens to city commissions, while aiding and abetting corruption and utter lawlessness in a once beautiful city.

Nick has shared these terrible, tragic stories with me for months. Finally, two weeks ago, he resolved to leave the Democratic Party and become a Republican. You can read his letter here.

Before I attended the December First, 2015 Huntington Park, CA City Council meeting, I had an intuitive notion to visit Nick's tailor shop before going to the city chambers. Nick was there, practically waiting for me. I gave him a hug, said that I was glad to see him. He had a registration form in front of  me. I helped him fill it out.

Open Letter: The Democrat Party

I became an American citizen in 1975. I am so proud to be an American that I devoted over half of my tailoring shop for the display of government officials. I have political medals, certificates, letters of thanks to me from numerous politicians. And there is much, much more.

I have four flags flying high over my tailor shop: The U.S. flag, the California flag, the MIA/POW flag and the flag of Greece, the country from which I emigrated.

When I became a U.S. citizen, I registered to vote as a Democrat. Why, because I thought that I could
best serve my beloved America by so doing. I have helped many Democrats get elected in L.A. County.

The current mayor of Huntington Park used my Patriot's Room for her campaign headquarters. I helped her win the election. I trusted her but soon found out that I did not really know her beyond the
superficial. She is in part the prototype of a Democrat of which I have now observed many of them in
action. They in part have provided the impetus for my decision. I have been lied to, deceived, and taken advantage of. I am owed money by Huntington Park. Members of the police force, members of City Council, members of the planning commission, and a contiguous property owner have shamefully taken advantage of me. So what do they all have in common? They are all Democrats! I am not like them.

In heart and practice I can not be a Democrat. I realize I believe in the principles of the Republican
Party. So, I have registered as a proud American and as a Republican.

The sooner the Democrat Party crashes and burns the better off America will be.
