Parkersburg, West Virginia: Vote NO on School and Library Levies

In two previous posts (click here and here), I have shared what a group of activists in Parkersburg, West Virginia are doing to stop the perverse LGBT infiltration that is targeting children, violating public decency laws, and embolding elected officials and bureaucrats to disregard the demands of parents and the needs of children.

In this post, I exposed the Drag Queen Story Hour programs that are becoming all too commonplace in Wood County.

In this post, I shared about the collusion of the libary system and the public schools to allow all kinds of perverse, offensive, pornographic books to made available to students.

I was also made aware that the school district and the library district are asking for more money from the taxpayers in Wood County.

Here's the link from the Library promoting their push for a renewed levy on the Wood County ratepayers.

Notice the political spin they want to perpetrate against the voters, too:

The Wood Library System is
making Andrew Carnegie lie for them!

Sure, the levy is not a "new tax."

It's the continuation of a current tax! It is still a tax, and the library is still asking for MORE MONEY.

The library district does not deserve more money from parents or other hard-working citizens in Wood County, WV.

Here are some of the books which the library is allowing to remain in their collection:

Rumble, by Ellen Hopkins

More Happy Than Not

Gender Queer

And the school district is looking for more money, too!

Of course, the county commission gives the impression that they are merely "renewing" the levy, but it's the same sham argument as the library's appeal. They are raising your taxes, because they are trying to renew, maintain, continue (etc.) a revenue stream from the taxpayers.

The library catalog is fully available to the school district, and the students have full access to the same obscene books which I exposed in a previous blog post. The school district has not only been derelict in its duties to remove these books, but the communcations director, Michael Erb, went out of his way to humiliate the parents by berating them to the local paper and egging them on to write a nasty editorial.

The school district is poisoning children's minds with LGBT filth. The libraries are complicit in pushing this garbage on children as well. The only message they will truly understand from voters is if they reject the levy renewals on November 8, 2022.

Public Libraries are Wild and (not always so) Wonderful, by Tom Zawatsky

Public Libraries are Wild and (not always so) Wonderful

Tom Zawatsky

In response to Brian Raitz's Op-Ed on 10-15-22, I attended the Library Board meeting of 9/28/22 to which he refers.

I strongly share the concern the group had over the book, "Gender Queer" (among others), which is aimed at young readers and is nothing more than a "pornographic novel" displaying explicit sex acts under the pretense of being, as Mr Raitz puts it: "a graphical autobiography of someone's life growing up with gender identification issues".

One day after the board meeting, Mr. Raitz contacted me to meet and in the ensuing 2 weeks, we met 3 times for over 3 hours. We discussed issues of library autonomy, freedom of speech, handling of  obscene materials, and social responsibility.  To be sure, I found Mr. Raitz to be very gracious and generous with the time he gave to our group's concerns, even willing to consider a suggestion I made that would accommodate his desire for 'free speech' yet stay within the law.

The idea presented to Mr Raitz was NOT to remove the book 'Gender Queer' from their online listing but rather to withhold it from view of any minor person unless accompanied by a parent  (who he said was the one primarily responsible).  However, this book, banned in many school districts across the country, was available on a featured display of 'Banned Books'...an obvious attempt to draw people in to investigate further, and may still be available on the shelf for such illegal perusal by  minors.

In his Op-Ed, Mr. Raitz stated: "It (the book) offended most, but not all (at the Board meeting), and this may be the heart of the issue."

I agree, and it is for this very reason that our Public Library must provide the same protection for our children that all other retail and commercial establishments in Wood County provide, in accordance with the law!  Our children's well-being is at stake:

(WV Code 61-8A-3(b) "Exemptions from criminal liability") states:

(there is an exemption for) "A public library, or museum, which is displaying or distributing any obscene matter to a minor ONLY WHEN THE MINOR WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS OR HER PARENT"

Currently, there is no reasonable means of preventing a minor from looking through the book without adult supervision as is required by State law!!

The MOVCAC (Motivate, Organize, Volunteer Citizen's Action Coalition) is a group of independently minded people who are NOT monolithic in their opinions, with one exception...  that of concern for our children. My appeal to Mr. Raitz was, and is, to take action out of respect for the social responsibility that his position as Executive Director of the Parkersburg-Wood County Public Library demands.

It appears, however, that a regretful pursuit of the enforcement of our State law is the only option left.

Massive Effort to Stop Passage of Tax Levies in the November Election

In a previous post, MassResistance shared with readers how our West Virginia Chapter is taking on drag queens and drag shows around Parkersburg, WV and the surrounding Wood County region.

Now we want to share with you the efforts of our Parkersburg team to expose the perverse, obscene books in the local libraries and schools.

On top of that, we will share with you how staff at the schools and the libraries attacked the parents instead of respecting their wishes and making every effort to protect the students.

Parkersburg Libraries

There are four branch libraries in the Parkersburg-Wood County Library system. A number of parents in the community have filed serious complaints against these books, and they have spoken out in the library board meetings, demanding that the books be removed.

In each of the links below, you will find the books that they want removed, and their full complaints:

Rumble, by Ellen Hopkins

More Happy Than Not

Gender Queer

Instead of heading the concerns of the parents, the Parkersburg-Wood County Library Director Brian Raitz mocked the parents and dismissed their concerns in an Op-Ed in the local paper.

Wood County Library Director
Brian Raitz

Here are key remarks exposing his abusive snark and shameful attitude toward the parents, as well as rampant disregard for the well-being of children:

To begin with, several people came to the board meeting upset about a certain book: “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe. I was unaware at first of the purpose of their attendance at the board meeting. They asked about the library, funding, and management. I went over a brief history of the library and its funding resources. It was later that we heard about the book at the heart of the visit.

The book in question is a graphical autobiography of someone’s life growing up with gender identification issues. The issue with this book is a couple of frames with graphic portrayal of a sexual nature that offended those in the room. It offended most, but not all, and this may be the heart of the issue.

Here’s a sample of some of the “graphic portrayal of a sexual nature” that many people find not just offensive but patently obscene:

Here, the girl is drawn to look convincingly like a teen boy while her sister persuades her to taste her vaginal fluid.

The mental illness in the LGBT "community" is understandable after seeing all this - clearly written by an "insider" to that sordid lifestyle.

Despite his so-called professionalism as a library director, he is clearly more interested in pushing perversion on children, all under the guise of “Freedom of Speech.”

And there’s more from his editorial which cannot be overlooked:

Libraries are not safe repositories of a past or present that is inoffensive to everyone. Public libraries are wild and wonderful places to explore the world and our community together through the past, the present, and the future. The past is there in older materials in the collection that sometimes become less relevant, or other times may give us a window into who we were, such as genealogy and local history.

Public libraries are also a reflection of the interests of everyone in the community now, and a glimpse of where those interests are going. Anyone that spends time in a public library will soon run into materials and people that challenge, disturb, and offend them. We are a broad spectrum of people in our community, and to meet the needs and desires of everyone, this challenging and uncomfortable part of public libraries is inevitable.

Hiding behind the usual verbiage for “diversity, equity, inclusion, hard topics, tough issues,” Raitz completely covers up the fact that he is promoting and pushing pornography in the library. The issue is not about tough ideas or difficult issues. The problem is that these books are filled with abject, obscene, perverse images appealing to prurient interest, without any redeeming social value whatsoever.

There is no excuse for Raitz trying to cover up what a sick man he is, to allow such garbage to pushed on kids, and not just through the public libraries but the public schools, as well!

And speaking of the schools, Parkersburg residents have filed numerous complaints with the local schools, pointing out the availability of these obscene, pornographic books violates the city ordinances against obscenity!

Michael Erb, Communications Coordinator

Instead of respecting the will of the parents and removing the books from school circulation, Wood County School District Communications Coordinator Michael Erb complained to the local press, and they published another editorial, once again mocking the good people who are fighting to protect the community’s children.

Here are some of the more offensive excerpts from the editorial:

You know the accusation that protesters and crisis actors are ferried around the country to perform as the need changes? Doesn’t matter what the cause du jour, these folks are there to stir the pot.

You might know them from their railing against masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19, or their actions in Washington, D.C., on and around Jan. 6, 2021. Maybe you remember them from their fight against the phantom they created and named “Critical Race Theory.” Now the enemy is books.

You’ll hear them say the target is books about sexuality and gender issues, but a look at the list they’d like to ban in our schools and libraries reveals the aim is broader than that.

Instead of respecting their cause, the editorial merely mocks the parents, painting them as a bunch of out-of-touch busybodies looking to cause trouble. The troubles would have never visited the community of the library and the school district had the decency to remove the indecent, obscene books from the local libraries in the first place!

The parents have complained to the school board that the communications directory has broken the law, since he did not forward the complaints to the principal, who in turn would have removed the books and reviewed them for a final decision to keep them or get rid of them.

In spite of local efforts to frustrate the parents and protect these terrible books, one of the activists in Parkersburg has taken the bold step of filing complaints with the country district attorney. The good news is that unlike most district attorneys, this one is willing to follow up and find out how he can stop the perverse indoctrination of the children in Wood County.

Here’s the email to the County Attorney:

Mr. Lefebure,

My apologies for the delayed response.  I’ve had family health situations, and out of town work demanding my time.

Thank you again for the reply.  I (and many others) would like to know if any of the parties (Shriners, performers, or parents) violated any law/code/ordinance etc.  The sections of code I previously mentioned may have been violated, but I defer to your expertise on this determination and any other possible violations.  To most people, it would seem this event and actions could not be legally permitted.

Since that time, we’ve also discovered what appears to be multiple violations of the City of Parkersburg Ordinance 517.02 (attached) by the Parkersburg and Wood County Library for knowingly displaying and distributing obscene matter to minors through what could be considered “child porn” books in the libraries.  A number of people attended a Library Board meeting where the Library Director, Brian Raitz, admitted he had no problem with distributing this to children.  There are a number of witnesses that would testify.   See also his attached op-ed that appeared in the local newspaper.

What’s most troubling is that these books that show graphic sexual illustrations, including incest and perverse acts involving minors, are available to every student in Wood County Schools through their libraries without parental supervision or approval.  Attached is a spreadsheet verifying some of these statements.  There is more evidence available.

Between sexually insinuating drag shows for children and child porn books in our libraries, some very sick people are hyper sexualizing children in a grooming fashion for very disturbing purposes.  If there’s not a violation of law, then it should be.

Please join me and many others in protecting the children of Wood County.  These children just need to be left alone from indoctrination and left to be kids.

Thank you again, and I’d be happy to talk and meet to discuss further.

Sincerely,

The Parkersburg team is kicking butt! They are not backing down from the fight to do what is best for the county and the families living there. They hope not only to expose the terrible shenanigans of the local schools and libraries, but they want to convince the voters to reject two levies on the November ballot. Both of the ballot initiatives, if they pass, will secure continued funding for the libraries and more funding for the schools.

Why should anyone put up their hard-earned money for public institutions which mock parents and want to harm children? Any library which insists on pushing pornography and LGBT indoctrination into children deserves to be defunded. Any school districts which refuses to respect the outrage of parents and instead finds ways to mock them does not deserve their money, either.

In a next post, we will discuss the desperate attempts by the library system and the school district to raise more money, despite their terrible record of service. We will also share with you an update from the district attorney and his investigations into the drag queen performances as well as the public schools and libraries.

West Virginia MassResistance, Parkersburg Team Takes on Drag Queens and LGBT Infiltration

West Virginia Team in Parkersburg/Wood County Exposes Drag Shows, Pornographic Books in Local Libraries

MassResistance providing guidance and support in effort to stop LGBT Infiltration and Grooming of Children

Across the country, parents and other outraged citizens are pushing back on local school boards and library boards. They are demanding that politicians put the well-being of their children first, instead of pandering to the LGBT mafia and their disgusting allies. They are also raising every alarm to stop the predatory behavior of drag queens going after children in other venues.

MassResistance has been working with parents and other activists in West Virginia for the last three years. We were able to shut down drag queen story hour programs, and we stopped nonsensical “non-discrimination” ordinances. We are also working with local activists to stop reparative therapy bans and to remove offensive, obscene, pornographic books from local libraries.

Parkersburg, West Virginia Takes on Drag Queens

Fort the past two months, MassResistance has been assisting local activists in Parkersburg and Wood County, West Virginia to put an end to drag shows in private venues grooming children. One of the most notorious performances took place at the Parkersburg Shriner’s Temple, in which perverse drag queens, adult male (often homosexual) entertainers.

A Shriner’s Temple?! Yes, indeed:

The Shriner’s Movement is well-known as a group of national—even international—philanthropists who invest their time, energy, and money to help children with disabilities.

Why would they sully their image and allow adult groomers dressed as garish parodies of women to take advantage of children?  Why would they allow these awful antics within their building?!

And what happened next was just awful. At the September 25th, 2022 event, some of our Parkersburg activists went into the drag show, and here’s what they captured:

They drag queens approached the children, and they kids gave these perverted men money. Is this really “family-friendly” entertainment?

Notice how they have kids front and center in these photos, and the parents give the kids money so that they can "solicit" the drag queens. How can any parent tolerate such abuse?

As expected, all the drag queens are dressed in offensive and burlesque garb, sexually explicit and provocative.

The hosts and performers went out of their way to showcase the children in their vile escapades:

The performers and other adults in the room even had the children take the stage and “perform” in front of the other adults. If this is not grooming, if this is not pedophilia, I don’t know what you can call this. This is outrageous child abuse!

This photos is creepy all of itself. The drag queens touched the kids, too!

These kinds of explicit displays have no business being around children. No adult with any sense of dignity or self-respect would tolerate such rank, disgusting displays around children.

On top of all this abuse, there was alcohol served at this event. Adults drinking alcohol around minors, and allowing perverted drag queens to gyrate and engage in their sexually explicit acts around children is nothing short of criminal.

Not to be outdone by their September antics, more drag shows are coming to Parkersburg in the next month:

How can any American Foreign Legion tolerate such desecration in their sacred halls?

And another drag show is coming to the Shriner’s Temple:

Both of these events are geared toward grooming not just the general public, but children. These were the perverted drag queens that were gyrating around children in September, and they want to keep coming back until they become the mainstream mainstay.

Our West Virginia MassResistance activists are fighting hard to expose and shut down these displays of explicit drudgery.

In the next blog post, we will share with you the efforts taken by our West Virginia team to take on the local schools and libraries. The books which these two agencies are making available to children is beyond outrageous!

Please contact me if you have any information or want to get involved in putting a stop to this rank abuse of children in Parkersburg, WV!

MassResistance Chapter Leaders Pressure State School Boards Association to Leave NSBA

MassResistance chapters in three states successfully forced their state to exit from odious National School Boards Association (NSBA).

Prompted by NSBA’s infamous letter to Joe Biden labeling concerned parents as “domestic terrorists.”

Grassroots pressure finally pushes hesitant public officials.

March 18, 2022
ALT TEXT Outraged parents organized by California MassResistance at their School Board meeting in Anaheim, CA.

In September 2021, headlines across America spotlighted a letter from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) to Joe Biden.

The letter was a hysterical reaction against parents across the country who had gone to their local School Board meetings to express outrage over “Critical Race Theory” indoctrination, COVID lockdowns, and the “transgender” agenda being pushed into their children’s classrooms.

The NSBA letter labeled the outspoken parents “domestic terrorists.” It accused them of bringing “extremist hate,” “threats,” and “acts of violence” against School Board members at the meetings. The NSBA implored Biden to direct the FBI, US Dept. of Justice, Dept. of Homeland Security, and other federal agencies to coordinate and direct their energies against this “crisis affecting America’s public schools.” This grandiose act was clearly meant to intimidate and silence any meaningful dissent.

ALT TEXT

Background – What was behind this excessive reaction?

Originally, the state school boards associations were set up to lobby state legislatures on behalf of the local school boards – and the public – to fortify the public schools. It was a counter to the lobbying arm of the state teachers’ unions. The National School Boards Association was set up to lobby Congress, countering the national teachers unions’ and the federal Dept. of Education.

But in recent decades, both the state and national school boards associations have become what the American Library Association is to libraries: an organized force to push hard-left ideology. The associations stand in opposition to most parents and propagandize local school board members. They push all the latest leftist ideologies through their recommended policies and training sessions. Their lobbying efforts are now very similar to the teachers’ unions.

State associations pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in dues and other fees to the NSBA each year.

Parents across America react to the NSBA letter

Parents across America were furious about NSBA’s letter and let their local public officials know it. A number of state school associations issued letters distancing themselves from the NSBA letter. Within three months, 19 state organizations broke away from the NSBA entirely.

But after the initial surge of states breaking away, other states dragged their feet on taking any substantive action.

MassResistance gets involved

In December 2021, our Organization Director Arthur Schaper met with chapter leaders of several of our state MassResistance groups. Our Arizona leader said that more needed to be done about the NSBA’s action against parents. The leaders decided to concentrate on eleven states to generate grassroots pressure to force their break from the NSBA.

When first contacted, some of those state school board associations responded positively, some negatively, and some not at all.

We were most surprised when a member of the Texas Association of School Boards had a long (and very disturbing) discussion with Arthur Schaper defending Critical Race Theory and the “need” to push it on young children.

On the other hand, the executive director of the Nebraska Association of School Boards told Arthur, “We want to meet with parents and work this out.” It was a good start.

But we kept pushing hard. By late February – after just two months – our efforts helped get three states to leave the NSBA:

Idaho

On Oct. 13, 2021 (two weeks after the NSBA letter), the Idaho School Boards Association (ISBA) wrote a letter somewhat distancing itself from the NSBA. (But it still echoed the NSBA’s obnoxious rhetoric, called out “the disruptive and – at times, frightening – behavior that has shown up in school board meetings in Idaho and across the country.”)

Then on Oct. 26, 35 Idaho state legislators signed a letter urging the state association to break away.

But nothing was happening, so Idaho MassResistance began contacting the ISBA. On Oct. 28, the Deputy Director of the ISBA sent an email responding to one of our Idaho MassResistance activists and Arthur Schaper. He said that the ISBA intended to continue to work with the NSBA – “to make NSBA better and to ensure our national association continues to represent states like ours.”

Idaho MassResistance activists across the state got to work. They appealed to their local School Board members to contact the ISBA and also repeatedly contacted the ISBA themselves – demanding that they sever ties with the national organization.

The pressure worked! On February 21, 2022, the ISBA announced that they were severing ties with the NSBA!

ALT TEXT

Arizona

In December, at least one Arizona school district voted to leave its state association, the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA), because it continued to be a member of the NSBA. According to news reports, the ASBA had insisted that the NSBA “had apologized” for the letter and so it was not necessary to sever ties.

Our Arizona MassResistance group contacted the fiery parents group in the Vail Unified School District, and together they conducted a vigorous campaign to get the ASBA to change its mind. On Feb. 16, the ASBA announced they were quitting the NSBA.

ALT TEXT

While ASBA has left the NSBA, the we’re still monitoring them for bad policies disseminated to its local school boards. For instance, see its webinar, The State of LGBTQ Education in Arizona (2019, still posted). Furthermore, much of the content sent onto the local school boards is hidden from the general public; that needs to change.

West Virginia

The West Virginia School Board Association (WVSBA) was dragging its feet, apparently hoping the issue would go away. Starting in December 2021, our West Virginia MassResistance chapter began contacting the WVSBA, demanding that they leave the NSBA.

It definitely got their attention! On February 26, we received this email from our WV Chapter leader:

Yesterday, I received another letter from Gus Penix, who is president-elect of WVSBA. In the letter he wrote, "I am writing in response to your communication dated Jan. 28, regarding the WV School Board Association's (WVSBA) affiliation with the NSBA. On Saturday, Feb. 19, at our Delegate Assembly meeting in Charleston, the WVSBA voted to disaffiliate from the NSBA."

The WVSBA website confirms: “Delegates to the West Virginia School Board Association FY23 Annual Business Meeting (ABM) voted unanimously February 19, 2022, not to join the National School Boards Association in FY23.”

More to come!

We are still working hard on Nebraska, Delaware, New Jersey, and other states.

Final thoughts

These victories are long overdue – and just the beginning of the work that needs to be done. It’s time for every state school board association to disaffiliate from NSBA, or for local school boards to resign from their state groups if they do not!

But whether or not a state school board association has cut ties with the national association, citizens still need to be closely monitor it. Many of these associations (even in “conservative” states) are still pushing the LGBT and CRT agendas to their local school boards!

In early 2020, MassResistance drafted an expansive exposé on the national and state school board associations, which unfortunately we didn’t get around to publishing. Given the current circumstances, we plan to update it and publish it soon.
