Unions are not worthy of the teachers whom they claim to represent.
I anticipate that a number of teachers will disregard the politicized suggestions of the Manhattan Beach Teachers Union Leadership.
Students should not suffer because the district leadership refuses to honor the great work that our local teachers do. What has created this bitter acrimony among teachers and district leadership?
The union power-struggle with school boards bares much of the blame. The political tensions have instituted conflict into the school setting, where cooperation and community belong.
Teachers must march up the salary scales of block, stock salary schedules, which do not recognize the intense, and extraordinary which are teachers give to their students.
Manhattan Beach Unified School District is as likely a place as any for the needed transitions from the traditional and failing union-school board model to charter-community-choice model which we need to see more of in our public schools.
