Thank You, Senator Santorum

Rick Santorum did the GOP a huge favor – he was the most conservative alternative to muster a meaningful opposition to a weak front-runner. Romney’s healthcare mandate was a whale of an albatross around the former governor’s neck, one which would have derailed his candidacy if a stronger challenger had emerged earlier in the campaign.

Romney’s skill with organization, programming, and punditry may be just enough to score future victory for this technocrat. Perhaps we do not need a red-blooded statesman in the White House. Perhaps a Mormon with quiet adherence to principle and quiescence in the face of crises is just what we need.

Anything in November would be better than Barack Obama. The hope and change that this country was hoping for will be realized when the Chicago city organizer gets sent back to the South Side.
Romney owes Santorum a debt of thanks for keeping the front-runner on his toes, for all but exhausting the negative rhetoric which would have sunk his campaign during the general election if improperly vetted during the Primary.
