From Demise the Rise: The Golden State's Future

From the conservative columnists to the confrontational bloggers, I have heard the same songs of death: California is doomed, and the California Republican Party is the first to go.

I wish that more people would stop reading the papers and look at the window.

Republicans gained three - three - state senate seats. They gained four assembly seats. These outcomes were unprecedented.

Republicans hold a strong majority of the city council and locally elected offices. There are Republican mayors in Gardena and Hawthorne, CA, two deeply Democratic cities. Republicans have taken back the entire Palos Verdes city council, and a Republican won a seat on the school board in the same city.

There are more reasons to rejoice, in the South Bay and throughout the state. Let us not forget that Democrats must hold or fight for ten Congressional seats next year.

Once again, I have to ask: is anyone paying attention?

Now, the California Republican Party needs to embrace not refrain from embracing its core values. Outreach needs to focus on diverse ethnic groups, not divergent views on issues. I just hope that leaders in Sacramento heed these lessons in the next two years.

Is the Golden State doomed? How many more conservatives are willing to stand and fight rather than give up and take flight? Where else can we find better whether and richer natural resources than in California?

Is this state a done deal? Should we throw up our hands and give up?

Not me. I am looking past the demise. I want to see California rise again.

Face-to-Face, not Facebook, Conservatism

For the past five months, I have worked with a citizen activist group called We the People Rising. This coalitions of freedom-loving conservatives, fed up with elected officials not doing their job, has put all politicians – Republican, Democrat, or anything else – on alert regarding immigration and enforcement of the rule of law. For decades, Americans have waited for their federal government to protect this country. Secure borders and immigration enforcement have remained wanting despite the promises of politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Instead of pouting, We the People Rising started shouting. Instead of sitting at him and gossiping, men and women throughout Southern California are getting up and getting in elected officials’ faces.  Theirs is the bold example which more Americans need to follow. Instead of just complaining about the undoing of our society, the Left-wing onslaughts on our homes and communities, more concerned citizens, more conservatives need to do something about it.

Social media matters, granted, but sharing information with everyone we know, and those who already know what is going on, is not enough. Facebook can unite otherwise distant (and even fractious) causes to work together for the greater conservative good. Recently, however, I have noticed that some conservatives rely on their social media as a replacement for activism. How will minorities in heavily Democratic districts learn about Republican values and conservatives principles, unless someone goes and tells them? The connection does not end with Facebook posts, or joining online chats, but going places and speaking to people whom you do not know.

So, where are the fighters? Where are the concerned citizens clashing with the business-as-usual statist status quo? Founding Father Thomas Paine blasted this come-and-go “sunshine patriotism”. Some American colonists who would run when the going got tough. Sitting at home on the computer is not running away from the fight, but it’s not running into the heat of battle, either. Whether we like it or not, the war for liberty, for restoration of our rights and the rule of law, is long and hard, and there will be hiccups and setbacks along the way.

Today, whether in California or Texas, we do not need sunshine patriots. We flashlight, sunlight, and even moonlight fighters to confront city leaders and state elected officials; men and women of conviction and conscience, not compromise and cowardice, to stand and stick out the long haul.

Sadly, my colleagues have not only faced recalcitrant representatives, but reluctant partisans. They love to blog, post, and complain online. Are they registering new voters? Campaigning in local elections? Do they contact their councilmembers and school board members to utter their complaints and demand a change in leadership? Party leaders and organizers face the same hardships which I have met and which We the People Rising are trying to overcome.

Let’s state the facts bluntly: too many people want to be Facebook conservatives, but we need more face-to-face conservatives. Liberty leads to security and prosperity. These outcomes need to stand out in the middle of the street, not just on the computer screen or the Twitter feed. Individuals will not honor your cause for liberty unless they see you and me putting our liberty to their service. Are you reaching out to the poor and infirm in your communities? Are you organizing to raise money and win elections? Do you hold your elected officials accountable when they do wrong? How about praising them when they do right?

85% of life is showing up, I told one city council in the Los Angeles Area. We need more people to step up and get face-to-face with residents, with communities, and government bodies. I admit that for years, I never said or did anything about my city or school board. I was not paying attention. II did not heed the complimentary advice of "The most important political office is that of the private citizen."

Even though the status of citizen commands more power than ever, and even though our Constitution states "We the People”, too many people do not take responsibility for their government. They are not exposing bad decisions, they are not calling for better representation. Voters must understand that good governance requires more than consistent voting. Activism is too serious a business for entitled college students, welfare recipients, and labor unions.

Pressure should mount from all directions against elected officials who do not uphold and defend the United States Constitution. There is  no better pressure than getting in someone’s face and demanding “Why did you do that?” or “When will you take care of this?”

Confrontation, not accommodation, is key. The farmers on the fields of Lexington and Concord did not write letters to one another or prattle in local taverns. They stood their ground on the battleground and fired “The Shot Heard Round the World.”

Today, the same principles hold true. Facebook is not enough, and Twitter will only tweet so much. If you want to make a difference, you need to face the challenges, face off against the adversaries, and make them face the music when they do not vote your way. 

Sanders Tries to Fundraise off. . Trump?

Bernie Sanders is the only viable challenger to Hillary Clinton's coronation at the Democratic National Convention next year.

Republicans all around should be glad to see an aging socialist represent the Democratic Party in the 2016 general election. He is the perfect representative for what the Democratic Party has become - a decrepit organization dedicated to pushing failed ideologies and defending the statist status quo, instead of embracing innovation and improvements, growth and opportunity.

Following Donald Trump's latest remarks about Muslims, Sanders went on the attack, hoping to reap more campaign cash for the last sprint toward Iowa.

I want to say a few things about Donald Trump and specifically about his comments tonight that we should ban all Muslims from coming to the United States, even American Muslims returning home from overseas.

I am not aware that Trump wanted to ban Americans who practiced the Muslim faith. What were his comments? Here's a link focusing on his comments:

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shut down of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. We have no choice. We have no choice."

Trump's anti-PC remarks have been noteably refreshing. The terrorist attacks on American soil in the last year have been connected to radical Islamist fighters. Our leaders not to stop fearing the bigotry label and protect our country. Did he call for stopping every single Muslim? Did he call for banning Muslim-Americans in the armed forces?

It's fun for the political media to treat Donald Trump like he's the lead character in a soap opera or the star player on a baseball team. But the truth is his language is dangerous, especially as it empowers his supporters to act out against Muslims, Latinos, and African-Americans.

Excuse me, but I do not recall Trump attacking Latinos or African-Americans in his latest comments about Muslims. Sanders is playing the race card here.

Poll after poll shows that I am the candidate best suited to take on Donald Trump and every other Republican running for president.

Where are those polls? I would like to see them and share them.

Final Reflection

Donald Trump's inflammatory rhetoric sets of the marginalized media. They need ratings, readers, and social media sharing. The lazy media loves Trump-mania since his latest pithy remarks bring in some business. Bernie Sanders wants to fundraise off Trump's tough talk, too.

People are angry, frustrated, infuriated with the Occupant in the White House who refuses to lead, defend, or fight for this country. Such weakness in the face of evil has led to raging comments like Trump's, and the enthusiastic applause which follows.

The real estate mogul's comments are heated, but Sanders' desperation for money is just sad.

My Interview with Illegal Alien "Commissioner" Julian Zatarain

The Los Angeles Times and Telemundo reported on Huntington Park's "historic" decision to appoint two illegal aliens to city commissions in "The City of Perfect Balance".

Yet barely five months later, and the malfeasants in the city are running from the cameras.

What are they ashamed of? The two illegals are breaking the law, and the council and staff are aiding and abetting their unlawful presence in the country. The media frenzy has subsided, but our fight for truth and justice has not diminished. More Americans across the country and in the city are not giving up. The city council is cracking under the pressure, and all the political posturing cannot ease the pain of ongoing shame and degradation from the public.

At the December First, 2015 city council meeting, I finally confronted the illegal. He had brazenly arrived at the outset probably, in a last ditch effort to show strength and resolve.

Members of We the People Rising followed me as we approached the illegal seated in the back of the room.

First, I informed him that we had already spoken with key law enforcement and federal officials: the FBI, Congressman Ted Lieu's Office, and then the US Attorney.

Instead of trying to scare him, I asked Zatarain: "Why don't you respect our laws?"

He explained how he had come to the United States at thirteen, brought illegally by his parents.

I do hold them accountable for putting their son into this harmful, difficult position.

The good news is that members of We the People Rising know people who lived in the country illegally, then got right with the law. The process is not so difficult that individuals cannot follow through.

The bigger problem, then, lies in that Zatarain insists on staying on as commissioner, even though he is not a legal resident. For a guy who claims repeatedly that "He is trying", he needed to make naturalization a priority ahead of anything else.

There is no excuse for his not taking initiative on this issue.

Let's face the truth squarely -- Councilman Pineda and his two illegal campaign volunteers do not care about citizenship, nor do they wish to attain the status. This appointment is a subtle yet planned erosion of citizenship and the values attached to it.

Zatarain then issued other damaging comments against himself. He admitted that he lived in the country ilegally, that he was a volunteer on Pineda's campaign - both violations of federal law.

Then he harped about how "We are a nation of laws."

Indeed, we are! Why do so many people seek asylum in this great country? The rule of law, and yet Zatarain is undermining the very thing he prizes and celebrates!

What terrible irony!

I also mentioned my friend Salvador, a former coworker of mine at the UC Irvine Dining Commons during my first year in college. He came to the United States (fully documented) because of the corruption. Why didn't Julian's parents do something about the corruption in their country? I do agree that the United States can effect better policies which will encourage or enable individual citizens in other countries to take back their government. The best solution to solving much of the corruption and mismanagement in third-world countries should embrace reforms from within, rather than emigration without.

Toward the end of the interview -- before he fled -- I offered him a way out: "Step down. Step down from the appointment. Get right with the law, then come back." That solution was not acceptable to him. We then have to surmise that this whole appointment debacle is not about serving the city or its residents. This is a political gamble to undermine citizenship, the rule of law, and the diverse culture of California and the United States. The sinister agenda at work, and through these two illegals, should sicken people the moment they read about it.

As I mentioned above, Zatarian got up to leave. When and why? The moment I called him out for exposing himself as a campaign volunteer for Pineda's campaign, in violation of federal law, and that we would share this information with the District Attorney. Indeed, the rule of law means something, even for those who actively refuse to respect it.

Zatarain tried to leave, running into the lobby outside of the council chambers. I continued to follow him, and then the Director of Parks and Recreation, Josette Espinosa, rose up to accompany -- protect -- him. The illegal ran toward the conference room which We the People Rising had used on November 3rd, when the city council tried to limit our comments then discourage us from staying to speak.

The hypocrisy is too much. The city staff allow an illegal to run and hide in the conference room, and yet the rest of us have to wait in the lobby downstairs. Ridiculous. Then the police officer harrassed me for being too loud. Why don't the  police enforce the law?

Another stunning turn: Espinosa squirreled the illegal into the city council's closed session meeting room! From the observations of other people in the city council chambers, Zatarain remained in that room during the duration of the meeting. Once again -- why did they allow him into the same closed sessions council room? It's supposed to be closed to the public, right?!

I am glad I took the time to confront this illegal and expose his illogic. What are people thinking, that they can put an illegal alien into a position of public trust? The city council expected the protests to die off and go away. The threats of force and legal action, coupled with recalcitrant law enforcement and abrupt changes to the meeting agenda, were designed to throw us off or put us out. These tactics have failed.

I want to commend Betty Retama, aka Huntington Park Betty, for her informative remarks about citizenship. Chanell Temple reminded everyone about Dr Martin Luther King Jr and judging people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Last of all, Robin Hvidston's stunning statement about who we are as a people cannot be forgotten: "The color of our skin is American."

Cruz is in First Place

A lot of conservative wonks have cautioned me: Iowa doesn't matter.

Yes it does, although the history of Iowa for Republican Presidential contenders stands out for how many candidates end up packing up and dropping out rather than determining which candidates win.

Still, Ted Cruz could make history, as the first Republican contender who wins Iowa, and then wins the GOP nomination.

Some disconcerted Establishment elements believe that Cruz can only lock up the case, but has no crossover appeal. I have often found that personal integrity connects with others, even if they do not agree with every policy view.

Other bloggers fearfully contend that Cruz will decimate Republican chances at the national level because he is not just conservative, but confrontation. When it comes to national leadership and foreign policy chops, don't more Americans want a President who declares "If you join ISIS, you have signed your death warrant"?

I want leadership in the White House, and clear-cut principle once again.

A candidate who wants to make America great again, but who behaves in a great fashion, too.

So far, US Senator Ted Cruz meets the standard for a conservative Republican who can lead our nation.

He was not my first choice because he had no executive experience, compared to Wisconsin's Scott Walker and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Then again, the President serves as the Chief Executive and Diplomat for our nation, but also the chief Pursuader and Promoter.

He is a brilliant mind with uncanny tactical prowess. That works for me.

Ted Cruz is in first place in Iowa, and that means a lot to me.

Assembly Leader Rendon Tries To Spin Bad WalletHub Rankings

Assemblymember (and soon-to-be Assembly Speaker) Anothony Rendon had to scramble to explain the impoverished, low rankings of many cities in his assembly district on the WalletHub.com website.

Instead of identifying the real reasons why the Southeastern cities suffer and struggle (illegal immigration, corruption, malfeasance, etc), Rendon rattled off a bunch of excuses, thinly veiled with the race card.

I was pretty surprised reading WalletHub’slist of “Best & Worst Small Cities in America.” Research methodology aside, one thing’s for certain — numbers can’t measure the heart and soul of communities.

If Rendon is surprised ,then he obviously does not spend enough time in his district to know what is going on.

You have to visit and experience the vibrancy of Southeast L.A. to feel that.

A lot of people do not, because there is not a lot of vibrancy there. Too much trash in the streets, and the quality of life is appalling.

Cities like Bell, Lynwood, Maywood, South Gate and Paramount are working class communities. Many among us are first or second generation immigrants who came to America in search of a better life for ourselves and our families. We work hard — two or three jobs if we must — to make sure our children live out the meaning of the American Dream.

Paramount is a pretty good town. Bell is the worst city on the list, followed by the others. Corruption ran rampant in a number of those cities, and the Bell is still ringing from its debts and overtaxation. Many of the people living in these cities are either struggling to get by, or are trying to stay out of trouble, fearful of being caught then deported.

We embrace our rich ethnic diversity. Lynwood’s Plaza México is a shining example of our proud cultural heritage. A multipurpose center that’s a shopping, dining and entertainment destination, Plaza is one of the nation’s leading destinations for the celebration of Latino cultural expression and pride.

Plus it’s a sunny 77 degrees outside my district office in South Gate right now. How many of WalletHub’s “best” cities can match that?

So what? Just because the weather is nice does not mean people will come.

Sure, our communities do face challenges. Our cities have faced governance issues and environmental injustices continue to harm our residents.

Challenges - that word is an understatement. Crises is the more accurate word.

The important thing is what we’re doing to address these issues and continue making progress. A new crop of civic leaders have ushered in a renewed commitment to ethical public service. We’re holding polluters accountable and expanding park space and recreational opportunities, particularly along the L.A. River.

In Huntington Park, they city council continues to spend money which they city does not have. Commerce is diminishing, if non-existent. Crime is rampant, and the city council refuses to do anything about it. In South Gate, one source claims that a Housing commissioner is also an illegal alien. Before this allegation, city councilmembers went to prison for corruption. 

Most of all, we continue to be proud. The skeptics can say all they want, but we don’t need rankings to prove the Southeast is a great place to live — we get to live it every single day.

Proud of what? And no, according to residents who live in the region, Southeast LA is not a great place to live at all.

At Hilda Solis' Grand Opening - December 5th, 2015

LA Supervisor Hilda Solis is doing to become the mayor of the county.

This is awful. She has been a liberal thorn in everyone's side since election to the state assembly. After serving in Congress for a few terms, Obama appointed her Secretary of Labor.

She grew tired of that - as most people have grown weary of the Obama Administration - and stepped down to run for Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Now, she's running the Southeastern part of Los Angeles County, buying votes in the corrupted cities of Huntington Park as well as Cudahy and Bell.

I could not resist coming to her open house for her new field office. What does she plan on doing for the constituents in the region? She refuses to stump for the rule of law. Two illegals are sitting on city commissions. She has already had to cave to Sheriff Patrick O'Donnell, who has agreed to allow ICE back into LA County jails.

She is getting pushed from every angle. Instead of just lamenting who represents the district, more conservatives and freedom loving Americans need to rise up and throw her out.

Vice Mayor Graciela Ortiz spoke to the crowd. I had shouted at her, asking her why she was not doign the right thing by residents in Huntington Park. She needs to appoint legal residents to city commissions, and no one else.

Assembllyman Reggie Sawyer took the time to welcome the site, then ran off to attend a birthday party for an elderly relative. I tried to speak with him for a minute, but he was in a hurry. Sawyer represents a part of Huntington Park, and his help is just as important to bring legality, the rule of law and order back to the city. Where is he?

Dave Miller for California District 11

Aaron Park of Placer County wrote a great article exposing Democratic Assemblyman Jim Frazier's desperate attempt to shore up support from veterans, yet tax them at the same time.

Jim Frazier is the Democrat Assembly-Member from AD11.

He recently touted AB935 – a bill that creates a new Veteran Driver’s License! Frazier, like any self-promoting and self-serving politician had a nice press conference where he nominated himself for sainthood talking about how tough it was to get the bill passed… blah blah blah…

But wait, there’s more! AB935 amounts to a veteran tax!

In California, even those who fought for this country get taxed. This is wrong.

Quoting Jim Frazier’s Republican Challenger, Dave Miller:

After a careful Legislative Analysis, the Designation was deemed “non-mandatory” in its current state, but what Assemblyman Frazier failed to mention in his Press Conference is the $ 5.00 FEE to receive the designation, with the Agency (CA DMV) reserving the right to raise that fee to a figure as high as $15.00. Meaning, “if you want the designation, which you deserve, you’ll need to pay for it!!!”.

In my estimation, the introductory program amounts to a “PROMO CODE” Time Period where the State DMV will access the success of the program. At that point, if successful, they will unleash Section 14901.1 of the Vehicle and Traffic Code to raise the Veterans’ designation fee, to the FEE they wanted to charge all along, which is $15.00/veteran.

Our veterans deserve better, deserve more, and they deserve someone else representing them in Sacramento. Dave Miller is running for state assembly next year, and the fact that he knows so much baout legislation, and how Democrats in Sacramento try to tax and spend everything they can, should warm more people toward electing him nex tyear.

Do not let the registrationo in AD-11 fool you. Democrats are voting Republican in unprecedented numbers in California. Johnny Tacherra of Central Valley is kicking up support and driving incumbent Jim Costa crazy. He nearly toppled the guy in 2014, and is looking primed and ready to win in 2016.

Miller retired from a 28-year career in social services finance and fraud investigation. In addition to working in New York political circles, Dave was active on the campaigns of former Governor and 2016 presidential candidate George Pataki, for the 12 years he was Governor of New York State.

And Miller's platform:

•Cut my own personal salary and give that back money to hard working high school graduates in our district who excel in Math and Science. 

•I will propose the first Electronic Legislature in the nation. Should drastically help California see relief in legislature costs, such as per diems, staff payroll, and greatly cripple the influence of special interests prior to a crucial vote.

•Propose the California Sacred Trust Act. This amendment would greatly restore public confidence in how government operates in the future. Let’s remember we are one of the largest states in the “United States of America,” not the “Divided States of America” let’s set the standard.

•Propose sweeping massive regulatory reform, including tangible prison reforms.

•Get serious about our Water Crisis, but not with the current proposals being thrown around today, but with Desalination Plants up and down the coast, with the water storage to protect it.

•Opposition to High Speed Rail. 

•Improving the Business Climate in California. We were once the world’s 5th largest economy, we’ve dropped to 12th. 

•Phased in Voter ID Program. Program phased in over four-year period. As a social service provider, I’ve seen what not having a photo ID can do for a person, it can keep them from doing simple things we take for granted like cashing a check or getting documents notarized. If, after four years, you haven’t applied, you must get a DMV license to conduct business.

•Implement a two year vehicle registration cycle on all vehicles registered at DMV. Study the effects of how that impacts the work flow at the agency.”

Restore Huntington Park

The four rogue members of the Huntington Park, CA City Council attempted to make history with their appointment of two illegal aliens to city commissions.

Instead, they made history as the launchpad for an American restoration in California.

Able-bodied and agile-minded conservatives, fed up with disregard for the rule of law and respect for our nation's culture, have fought back and never ceased in their efforts to demand enforcement. Since August 17th, 2015, members of We the People Rising and activists throughout the state have stepped up. Arriving throughout the year and speaking to groups and crowds throughout Southern California, we have told citizens in the state of California: you need to protest what is happening in Huntington  Park.

Regardless of the spin from the media, Hispanic residents in the "City of Perfect Balance" and throughout the state of California do not want open borders, pathways to citizenship, or amnesty. Like many Americans, they want the rule of law, they want enforcement, and they support legal migration.

In spite of the negative attacks from the corrupt Democratic political machines in the region, more residents are learning the truth about the illiberal political agenda.

From the efforts of Valentin Amezquita, the lone voice of reason on the city council, to long-time resident and activist Betty Retama, the momentum to restore Huntington Park to its former glory has continued apace.

The city is getting a bad reputation for its poor governance, but its citizens are standing up for what is right, and pushing the city council to do the same.

It's time for restoration in Southeastern Los Angeles. It's time to Restore Huntington Park!

This morning, I did not find much good news to read.

Aside from the straight-shooting out of Trump's mouth, and "Weekend at Bernie" Sanders dancing around his twenty-year voting record supporting gun rights, the news was bleak and depressing.

In a county where the rule of law faces unprecedented assault, where Islamic terrorists commit brazen actives of mass violence on our soil, and the President won't call it what it is, and some of the Republican Presidential contenders sound just as accommodating and liberal as the remaining Democratic contenders, the news is not always worthy.

Then I read this article on Breitbart California:

Despite the desperate, wicked attacks of Islamic extremists in San Bernardino, in spite of a fawning mainstream media and a political class unwilling to stand up to evil in our midst, there is even in deep blue California a conservative running for Congress, who is not only standing on principle, not only speaking the truth about our rights and our country, but it expanding our rights in innovative ways while campaigning in a once safe Democratic seat in the Central Valley.

A reminder: Tacherra pulled ahead by a thousand votes on Election Night 2014, then watched his lead dwindle and finally fall beneath. One source told me that Tacherra received a text, informing him that he would end up losing by 3,000 votes. The claims of voter fraud in the state of California cannot be ignored.

Asked whether the December 2 San Bernardino attack might delay the BBQ or lead to its cancellation altogether, a strategist for Tacherra–Carl Fogliani–indicated “the campaign has no qualms about holding the event after the attack.” Fogliani said, “Some people on the left want this to be about guns. I think there are other aspects: trying to focus on the refugee and visa issue and on security.”

Thank you, Tacherra and company! Conservatives have more reasons to celebrate a rise of conservative principles and action in a state which many observers have called "a lost cause."

Tacherra has been trying to bring the threats posed by immigration from Middle Eastern countries into clear focus throughout the campaign. He “is calling for a blanket ban on immigrants coming into the U.S. from the Middle East” for the foreseeable future.

Finally, we have candidates -- in California! -- who are not afraid to demand a halt to mass migration into the United States. These statements do not meet the "political correctness" standard, but so what? We do not need PC in a time of war, or at any time at all. Honesty and integrity are essential, now, and for these reasons and so much  more, I support Johnny Tacherra for Congress!
