God made man in his image:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them." (Genesis 1: 27)
When Adam sinned and fell, dying death, because the Spirit of God leaved him, then his children after him were born in the image of fallen man:
"And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own
likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth" (Genesis 5: 3)
From the fall of man, and Adam was the head of all creation before he forfeited this God-given authority to Satan, man has been made in the image of Adam, of sinful man.
But Jesus Christ came to break us free from this sin and shame:
"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh:" (Romans 8: 3)
Jesus Christ became sin, that in Christ we would be made the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)
We are now children of God (1 John 3: 1-3), we have received the Spirit of Adoption, and we call God "Daddy!" (Abba, in Hebrew -- Romans 8: 15)
We were made to be forever more in God's image. Now, God is glorified in that He sent His Son to pay for our sins and give us His life. We are more than an image, but we are now in Christ, so that we may boldly declare:
"As He is, so are we in this world!" (1 John 4: 17)
