Comment on Obama's Refusal to Defense the Defense of Marriage Act

"President Barack Obama decided in February his administration no longer would defend the law".

President Obama's refusal to defend the Defense of Marriage Act is indefensible.

Since when has a sitting President refused to Defend an Act of Congress?

It is the responsibility of the Chief Executive to enforce the Law, whether he agrees with it or not.

The power to change, repeal, or enforce a law must remain with the legislature in a country. It sets a dangerous precedent when one branch of government unilaterally decides, contrary to its enumerated power, which laws to enforce and which laws to ignore.

Granted, libertarian candidates may attest to the core justice of ignore such a piece of legislation, yet even libertarians must concede that the rule of law is essential to any society, and dismissal of legality is a terrible shock to the foundation of any state.
