Public employees spike their final pension packages at the end of their careers by rolling all their unused sick days into the final pension calculation.
This is wrong. This is a legal breach of the public funds and the public trust.
Public employees should not receive a pension in the first place. Why not provide them a higher salary, after which they can then invest their extra funds as they see fit.
But if municipal governments insist on paying their employees a pension, then they must settle for compensation based on what they received when working, nothing more.
Governor Christie should be commended for his work to curb entitlement spending in New Jersey.
