Comments on "My Umost" November 10 Part I

"After sanctification it is difficult to state what your aim in life is, because God has taken you up into His purpose by the Holy Ghost.

When I first read this statement, I thought that walking with Christ would mean that I had no purpose.

Now I realize how untrue such a thought is:

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11)

And

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (John 14:6)

As one commentator wrote, we want to know the way; God wants us to know Him.

He is Yahweh, the self-existing One, who was, who is, who is to come:

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Hebrews 13:8)

And

"Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come;"(Revelation 1:4)

We do not need to seek a specific purpose -- by seeking to know Him, He in turn leads where He wants us to:

"Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)

We fulfill God's law and purpose in our lives to the extent that we are magnified of God in our lives.

Consider also this bold promise from Paul to the Ephesians:

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)

The works, the will, the worship, all of it is already in us. We are therefore called to grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord, and He is manifest in us, and His works placed in us in turn are brought forth.
