"Think For Yourself" Needs More Thought

"Think for Yourself" needs some more thought.

Men and women think in a language, in a community, in response to societal and moral and legal pressures. We did not make ourselves nor did we invent the world we entered into, uninvited.

We are not immune to the opinions of others, nor do we have to submit to them arbitrarily.

Truth and error are simple concepts, not open for debate. The moment that mankind starts to question identity and opposition, then he falls into error.

More than thought, identity is the crucial issue. Every human being needs to establish himself on something solid, something greater than his own thinking and feeling. Otherwise, man enters into a terrifying morass of mixed signals and uncontrollable fears, like a spirit without a body or a man without a tribe.

There are a number of issues which need to be settled in our lives. A growing number of youth emerge from homes where their parents entered into marriage and parenthood without establishing the values that they would live by. In many cases, men and women are merely repeating the same ideas and prejudices of their partners and their parents without realizing it.

Indeed, people desire approval. The question then becomes: where can man find the surest source of security for his identity in this shifting world?

There is no such thing as an "individual in the purest and unadulterated form" -- we cannot be divided from everything. We cannot even be divided from ourselves.
