Walk in Perfect Peace -- Stand Still!

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

"Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." (Colossians 2: 6-7)

Come again? How am I supposed to "walk in Him" if I am "rooted and built up in Him"?

Isaiah provides a glimpse into the what the Finished Work would accomplish in those who believe:

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3)

God Himself keeps us in perfect peace (literally, shalom shalom, or superlative peace), as our minds stay, or lean, on Him. Christ Himself becomes our peace:

"For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us." (Ephesians 2:14)

and He lives in us:

"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27)

Let's consider the powerful connection between our believing on Him and His working in us:

"Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

"Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

"Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (John 6: 27-29)

What is the meat that endures to eternal life? Christ Himself:

"And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." (John 6:35)

We are called, therefore, to believe on the Son of Man, who was given for all, to save us all from eternal condemnation and death:

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

There are scriptures through the Bible which testify to the power of God acting on our behalf, while those who believe on Him believe:

"And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

"The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." (Exodus 14: 13-14)

Paul explains this perfect mystery to the Galatians, who had been carried away with the heresy of earning God's grace through strict adherence to the Mosaic law:

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)

Paul confirms that we walk in the Spirit. . .by the power of the Spirit!

"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5: 25)

And what do, we who are standing rooted in Christ our savior? We fight Satan, and that without even struggling!:

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)

and in Ephesians:

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6: 10-12)

Remember that these "principalities" an "powers" are already defeated:

"[God] raised him [Christ Jesus] from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

"Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come." (Ephesians 1: 20-21)

and

"And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." (Colossians 2: 15)

Walk in His perfect peace: Trust in Him, do good as He works in you (cf Psalm 27:4; Philippians 2: 12-13), and He will guide you, prosper you, and protect you!
