For the left, anyone who makes large sums of money, whether person or corporation, is labeled as part of the "plutocracy" exaggerating the inequality of wealth in this country.
There are two problems with this charge:
1. Corporations, oil companies in particular, may rake in large profits, but after covering overhead and investment costs, their profit margin declines considerably. The same canard that lambastes insurance companies for raking in the revenue at the expense of the average citizens also fails to calculate that the same companies have a very low profit margin, and therefore are one of the least profitable business ventures out there.
2. There is nothing wrong with making money, as long as profit-reaping does not involve theft, thwart, or fraud to the public. In the event of such corporate deviance, the free market of individual consumers and advertising disciplines such misconduct far more effectively than government regulations.
