Why do we not believe what we are reading in the Word of God?
Because instead of resting in the simple premise, the very truth of "In the Beginning was the Word,", we bring to our Bibles sets of ideas, traditions, and prior experiences, and through them we then filter the Bible.
I did this for many years.
I was raised in a Twelve Step home, where the program of Alcoholics Anonymous defined everything.
I would even read the Bible, and take Scriptures from the Word, which affirmed the Twelve Steps.
Hold on a second.
Which came first: the Bible, or the Twelve Steps?
The Bible, the Word of God, of course!
We start with the Word, for He has been from the beginning!
Start with the Word, with Jesus, and everything follows from there.
