Congratulations, Manhattan Beach Unified School District, on winning the "Award for Energy Stewardship"
It is good to read about school districts that are making every effort to cut excessive spending and waste without having to lay off teachers or limit their ability to educate pupils effectively.
Although I am no "tree hugger", any move to promote environmental conservation that saves money deserves to be recognized. Imagine, Costa High School saved thousands by going dark every day for a set period of time or simply reminding staff to turn up the thermostats a little.
I wish that more school districts would look for these small yet innovate ways to cut costs. Perhaps larger districts would not be laying off so many teachers if they laid off wasting so much energy throughout the school day.
