Condoleeza Rice was a superb Secretary of State.
She is forward and out-spoken, but she is also pro-choice, a non-starter with the GOP base and Establishment, two constituencies which are essential as well as crucial to Romney's victory in November. To frustrate the enthusiasm of core voters would be outright foolishness.
The Drudge Report floated this empty rumor yesterday, but I believe that pundits would better use their time playing up Romney's economic savvy and respect for free enterprise. President Obama is spreading lies about Romney's tenure at Bain Capital, even though he helped struggling companies compete and helped create jobs where losses seemed inevitable.
Stop guessing and musing about the VP pick, I say. Let' celebrate the respectable and rewarding resume of the presidential candidate, who right now is still nearly neck-and-neck in the polls with one of the most embattled incumbents in modern history.
Condoleeza Rice loves public service. She will serve her party and the public best by not running as Vice President. The rest of the conservative cause will serve their party and the country by presenting a better perception of the Massachusetts Governor.
