About "Justice and Democracy" in Random Lengths News

I respect Mr. Allen’s frustration with Sacramento’s shaky finances, which are shaking down our state’s court system. Still, court should remain a “last option”. “Justice and Democracy” cannot ignore “Supply and Demand”. Sacramento may end up defunding San Pedro’s courthouse. Of course, the progressive policies of taxing the rich to pay for everything have created California’s volatile and now diminishing revenue stream which drains our schools, public safety core, and court system.

I still argue that "Progressivism" is the polluted stream turning California into a swamp of union dominance and welfare dependence. The progressive tenet of a mutable human nature creates institutions that coerce on the premise of “improving humanity”. Pass the right laws, impose the proper ordinances, force people into state-run schools, and the ideal humanity emerges. However, forceful legislative fiat cannot change the human heart and runs contrary to the limited humanity, inevitable scarcity, and perennially closed order of this faulty world.

In response to Allen’s other assertions, “progressive trends” did not liberate African-Americans. Americans of all colors offered themselves, on the battlefield and in the halls of Congress, to grant opportunity for slaves to be free. Black men and women seized that opportunity. In the end, they chose liberation. For the record, “progressive” President Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. So was Frederick Douglass, and the first popularly elected African-American US Senator, Edward Brooke. “Progressive trends” did not “give equal rights” to women either, for all are created equal and endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights (see The Declaration of Independence, not The Constitution)

Furthermore, The Constitution is not a “living document”, but a stable instrument to “establish, ensure, provide, and protect” limited powers to the federal government. Otherwise, why have an amendment process in the first place? Also, “Gay marriage” is neither progressive nor indicative of a new step on the “long arch of history”. Scan the annals of ancient Greece, which witnessed widespread depopulation because of the break-down in normal human relations and stable families.

George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984 parodies “progressive trends” fully realized: telescreens spy on every member of society; historians falsify history to propagandize elite interests; and fleshly sense triumphs over sanity, while mechanical sentiment replaces human sensibility. “Progressivism” unrestricted exposes an Orwellian core. “Progressivism” should be called “Liberal Fascism”, the title of an excellent book by conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg, which “progressives” might consider reading when they have some free time.
