Goldberg Strikes Gold: Federalism is the Answer

In  a recent article, "Federalism Could be the Solution to GOP Branding Problem", Conservative Columnist Jonah Goldberg presents the dilemma and the solution to the Republicans' branding problem.

He claims that "federalism" could be the answer. Goldberg has assuredly identified a real issue for better. He identified the same problem that Indiana Republican and US Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock defined during his campaign.

Compromise in Washington has never dealt with the specifics of cutting government, but always pruning back the amount of over-spending which Government does. The Democrats want to spend $10 billion that our treasury does not have, the Republicans want to spend $5 billion, and so both sides "compromise" on spending $7.5 billion.

Government cannot continue to spend money that our country does not have, yet trying to stave the spending with nothing but negations, nays and "No!" votes is about as useful as shoveling sand against a tsunami. Instead of attacking "Big Government", let the states and the cities within the states choose how big they wanted their state to be.

Block grants to the states will allow current recipients to receive their entitlements without all the red tape, fraud,  and waste which frustrates these disbursements. If Democratic standard-bearer Bill Clinton was willing to enact welfare reform to great success, then why would any other Democratic President or Senator of House Rep refuse to do the same? For them to run against one of the most successful "Democratic" domestic policies would split the moderates and the Left and hand the Republicans another win, much like 1994.

Republicans control the governorships in thirty states, with fifteen states under supermajority GOP rule, followed by one-party majorities in ten other states.

Goldberg struck gold: federalism is the answer, one which combines the individual and states' rights interests of the GOP without alienating Washington Republicans.
