Imperial Avenue Elementary of El Segundo has an interesting history. I believe that Quentin Tarantino went to that school before making bloody movies with explicit references to martial arts flicks. More importantly, it was the site for Imperial PAU (Principal Administrative Unit), a school under the Special Education Division of the Los Angeles Country Office of Education.
When I worked at the site, Imperial Avenue Elementary catered to autistic and handicapped students living in the South Bay. The slope of the campus permitted the students to enjoy freedom moving to and fro on campus. During my lunch break on some days, I would look over the fence off of Imperial Avenue and see the planes taking off and landing at LAX. It's a nice area, one whose beauty deserves to be preserved as much as possible.
I hope that the city chooses to invest the least amount of time and money transforming the property into something profitable for the community and the region. It would be a shame to see an unsightly construction site mar the majesty of the view from Imperial Avenue.
