DREAM Act: Nightmare for California

With a post-secondary system already losing millions because of budget cuts and declining revenue, Governor Jerry Brown and the California legislature have seen fit to make it even more difficult for legal residents to enroll in college.

The United States cannot reward illegal immigration, no matter how unfair or uncalled for, by permitting those who live in this country unlawfully to take advantage of in-state handouts.

This bill effects not only the 2,500 illegals who want to go to college, but the thousands more who have played by the rules, either having been born or naturalized as citizens of this country.

What kind of a message is Sacramento sending to our young people and the voters by allowing a segment of the population to bypass the necessary regulations to ensure a well-funded and just system of post-secondary education?

One illegal immigrant who lauded the Governor's decision argued that now he can enroll in college. What does he want to become? A sociology professor. This immoral accommodation will perpetuate more soft-compassionate liberalism, which will hit hard at hard-working, law-abiding tax payers.
