"I don't know if I am saved."
I cannot tell you how many times I have heard other people tell me that they are not sure whether they are saved or not.
These individuals are sitting in churches, by the way.
They even share the Gospel with other people.
Yet they have no idea whether they are saved.
Or they believe that their salvation is based on some subtle knowledge which someone else has.
What does the Bible say?
"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." (John 20: 31)
We need life, and we receive this eternal life through Jesus.
John then wrote in his First Epistle:
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (1 John 5: 13)
Earlier in his epistle, John writes:
"But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth." (1 John 2: 20-21)
John wrote to believers, to "dear children" that they may know they have eternal life. There is no secrecy, there is no wondering, there is no reason to live in doubt about one's state before God as a saved person.
We have been sealed by the Holy Spirit:
"For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 21Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts." (2 Corinthians 1: 20-22)
and also
"Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 5: 5)
And also
"13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1: 13-14)
Followed by
"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." (Ephesians 4: 30)
Let no one deceive your or despise your certainty: If you believe on the name of Jesus, then you are saved in Christ, Beloved, and this is written that you may know that you are saved!
