CITIZEN LOBBY VISIT TO REP KEN CALVERT'S OFFICE

6/26/18 Corona, CA
Report by Robin Hvidston

Deann D'Lean, Raul Rodriguez, Jesse Suave and Robin Hvidston: Citizen Lobby Visit

Citizen Lobbyists and constituents dropped by Republican Congressman Ken Calvert's district office in Corona to demand that he NOT support Paul Ryans' amnesty bill, which is scheduled for a vote today.

The Citizen Lobbyists met with Congressman Calvert's Staff Assistant Nathan Rodriguez. He was cordial and welcoming to the group.

They informed staff that it had been widely circulated on social media (see the report below) that Congressman Calvert was possibly going to support the Paul Ryan amnesty bill. He acknowledged that they have been receiving phone calls on the topic.

He said Congressman Calvert does not support amnesty. He said that all of the information was not in on the Paul Ryan bill and that Congressman Calvert was still studying the bill.

His constituent Jesse Suave said that he and his family immigrated legally from Mexico and that we expect all people to come LEGALLY to this country. Follow the law. The group reaffirmed that they do NOT support ANY DACA legalization. They emphasized that legislation in congress should be focused on helping American citizens: Veterans, homeless Americans, unemployed, the disabled and the more than 400,000 suffering U.S. children in foster care.

Nathan took notes from the meeting and said that he would pass the information on to the congressman.

NUMBERS USA ALERT: CALL NOWThe House will vote on H.R. 6136, the Goodlatte-Ryan-Denham Amnesty bill, this afternoon. There will be no more delays; Speaker Paul Ryan has said the vote will definitely occur today.
Will you make an urgent phone call this morning, telling your U.S. Representative to oppose H.R. 6136, the Goodlatte-Ryan-Denham Amnesty?

On Tuesday, the bill's author Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), submitted an amendment that would have added Rep. Lamar Smith's (R-Texas) mandatory E-Verify legislation, the Legal Workforce Act, to H.R. 6136. It would have also made changes the agricultural guestworker program and would permanently expand the H-2B low-skilled guestworker program. But House Leaders have decided not to allow a vote on that amendment and instead just hold a vote on H.R. 6136 as introduced.
The original version of the Goodlatte-Ryan-Denham Amnesty would:
  • Grant amnesty to at least 1.8 million illegal aliens with only promises of future enforcement
  • Have little to no impact on the overall number of green cardswith lifetime work permits issued each year
  • Create a special merit-based green card system for amnestied illegal aliens
  • Eliminate several chain migration categories while leaving the largest category -- parents -- still in place, allowing amnestied illegal aliens to reward their parents with green cards in the future

Here's an excerpt from what NumbersUSA sent to House Republicans yesterday afternoon:
Despite the fact that Republicans campaigned against amnesty and for putting the interests of American workers first, a small group of Republicans is attempting to force the Republican Conference to violate their campaign promises in the middle of a border crisis.

"The greatest asset of the American economy is the American worker. Our immigration system must protect American working families and their wages, for citizens and legal immigrants alike, in a way that will improve the economy... America's immigration policy must serve the national interest of the United States, and the interests of American workers must be protected over the claims of foreign nationals seeking the same jobs... We oppose any form of amnesty for those who, by breaking the law, have disadvantaged those who have obeyed it."
-- 2016 Republican Party Platform, pp. 25-26
Please call your U.S. Representative today and urge a NO vote on H.R. 6136

Gregory Brittain       ACT NOW TO STOP AMNESTY; THE COUNTRY YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN [Let’s focus on another local Est.Rep, Ken Calvert]

Thanks to #MAGA Patriot opposition, Paul Ryan had to cancel the vote on his mass #Amnesty bill scheduled for Thursday, June 21, then Friday, June 22. But Ryan plans to bring his mass #Amnesty bill back next week, the week of June 25.
