Let me impersonate, if you will, the opinion of some decline to state voters in California, a growing population who lean right fiscally, but lean left socially, or to put another way, are fiscally conservative and socially liberal, like much of the South Bay.
"I think that your Republicans/conservatives are wasting your time. Who cares about abortion? Who cares about same-sex marriage?"
Really? Whether someone cares or not, will that be the final arbiter for whether a political party, or our government, cares about an issue?
"People should be allowed to do whatever they want with their bodies, in their own homes. Why should you care?"
The baby does not have a voice, and marriage as an instution has effects which range outside of the home.
"I mean, you guys are just wasting your time dealing with those stupid issues."
Perhaps there is some truth to this indictment. The real concern should be: why do voters think that the sudden transformation of the marriage sacrament, and the origins of life, are "Stupid issues."
If protecting life at every stage is not important, then what are we doing here in the first place? What's the point of commerce and trade unless we are not enhancing life or embracing values which define life?
