L.A. County to Join Lawsuits Against Census Citizenship Question

I enjoyed my two-hour visit to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

It didn't end as I would have liked it to, but at least citizens spoke out against all the hands-outs and special privileges to illegal aliens at the expense of taxpaying residents.

Nevertheless, Los Angeles County decided to sue the Trump Administration over the common-sense decision to allow the citizenship question into the 2020 census.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to file or join an amicus brief opposing the federal government’s addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 U.S. Census.

This is just sad. They want to dilute the vote and count all the "non-voting" illegal aliens in the state of California. Ridiculous, yet not surprising, since it's all about gaining power at the expense of law-abiding citizens.

Supervisor Hilda Solis recommended the move, saying that hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding are at stake for the county.

“Los Angeles County stands to lose a lot,” Solis said. “Our county has already been ranked as the hardest to count.”

Los Angeles County should lose every dollar, since they openly and repeatedly defy the rule of law. It's time for this nonsensical lawlessness to end.

An estimated 3 1/2 million immigrants live in the county and the concern is that many will not fill out a census form that inquires about their citizenship status out of fear of deportation, for themselves or loved ones.

"Immigrant" meaning legal or illegal residents? This linguistic double-talk is a shameful sham on so many levels. It just disgusts me. We need more people to speak out and demand that every elected official respect the legal status of all men and women who entered the United States legally.

You are not an immigrant if you broke into this country. You are an illegal alien.

Roughly $400 billion in federal funding for education, public health, transportation and other critical functions are allocated on the basis of the census data.

Congressional seats are also apportioned based on that data.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger said it shouldn’t be a political issue.

Barger has become more and more useless every day. I doubt that she will run for re-election in two years. What is she doing on the Board of Supervisors, if she refuses to take any kind of hard-line lead on principle?

“This is not about documented and undocumented. This is about getting an accurate count,” Barger said.  She said “this county is not sustainable” based on local funding alone.

Then the county needs to start trimming the fat, not demanding more money.

Here's the video I recorded of the meeting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cCUVoX2NgM

Immigration rights advocates and others agreed.

“This is about protecting a 200-year-old institution from being politicized,” said Efrain Escobedo of the California Community Foundation, noting that a citizenship question has not been included in the U.S. Census since 1950.

Citizenship is now considering something that is "politicized"? Wow, this county is in serious trouble. Serious trouble. These immigrant rights activists do not care about immigrant rights at all, because they don't care about those who did everything right to enter the country.

They only care about bringing in more socialist/communist voters.

Supervisor Janice Hahn, who co-authored Solis’ motion, cited a “level of fear and mistrust in our immigrant communities” that she said wasn’t surprising given an atmosphere of “added aggression” from the current administration.

“We have seen (Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents) come in and round people up, people who have lived here for 35, 40 years,” Hahn said.

They are still criminals, Janice! They shouldn't be in the country to begin with, and it's the fault of the federal and state governments for allowing them to get away with it.

The United States is a great country because the country is based on good laws and good arms, and the country must retain a commitment to the rule of law at all costs. There is none when elected officials disdain law-abiding residents, including the men and women who entered this country through the front door--legally.

Here's the part that I wanted to focus on:

A man wearing a red “Make California Great Again” hat disagreed, called the board’s action corrupt.

“The census is supposed to take note of the citizens in this country, not those who came here illegally,” Arthur Schaper told the board. “We are not a democracy, we are a republic in which the rights of all citizens are protected, regardless of who is in power and regardless of public sentiment.”

I am really proud of those remarks. It's time that more people started speaking out against the abusive police powers imposed upon us.

The board’s vote was 4-0. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas was absent from the meeting.

Final Reflection

The LA County Board of Supervisors represents illegal aliens, not American citizens. This is wrong. It must be confronted. I am not sure what it takes to put an end to this rampant lawlessness. We need citizens in LA County to rise up and fight back against all this malevolence. How do we get people off the couch to fight for their rights to live, and to live in peace?

Illegal Alien Massacres and Dead Americans--What About Their Dreams?

The press goes nuts over mass gun shootings.

They are horrific, and they are preventable. If state legislatures stopped punishing law-abiding citizens and started going after lawless criminals, our lives would be more secure.

The FBI spent more time going after hoaxes of Trump-Russia collusion, when they should have heeded the repeated warnings about Nikolas Cruz.

There are other preventable crimes taking away our loved in other cases, too:
Kate Steinle had dreams.

So did Ruben Morfin, Dominick Durden, Drew Rosenberg, and thousands of others.

These are unnecessary tragedies.

What about Ronald De Silva, the son of Agnes Gibboney? He was an accidental target in a gang-bang drive-by. Where were his dreams? Why did he have to be gunned down by an illegal alien thug?

These are the stories we need to be talking about, as well as the victims of mentally deranged fanatics with firearms.

Left-Wing Reporter Triggered by Immigration Enforcement Advocate

Why is it that the entire city of San Francisco falls all over themselves feeling great pain and sorrow over the death of Ed Lee ...

But did not care about the tragic murder of Kate Steinle on Pier 14?

Carla Marinucci is the next to join the "Poor Ed" tirade:

Notice how she mentions Townhall.com--what's the point?

She complains about the political discourse becoming uncivil, but then she mentions a conservative news site to smear me?

What difference does it make whether I write for Townhall.com or not?

Is this some cheap attempt to silence me or others?

Many people feel the same way about Mayor Lee's sudden demise.

Besides, Mayor Lee's decision to stand by the sanctuary city decision was beyond sickening, especially since that very policy invited illegal alien Jose Garcia Zarate to come to San Francisco, steal a firearm from a federal official, then kill Kate Steinle.

What's truly sickening is the depths of left-wing bias to which the major media, elected officials, and left-wing activists will go to to defend their horrid policies.

Also notice that she could not get the Twitter Handle right.

It's @Townhallcom, Carla! Spellcheck before you screed, why don't you?!

We the People Rising Honor Kate Steinle in Cudahy

The sanctuary city of Cudahy is losing money fast. They cannot pay their bills, yet the corrupt city council continues to give away taxpayer dollars to crony vendors and political allies. They continue pushing the marijuana dispensaries in the face of the residents, even though the city is one square mile, and there is literally no place for marijuana without local businesses and residences feeling the negative affects.

The city still stands by its lawless policy, even while losing money in the process of trying to protect the city council meetings. The lawless, hateful Brown Supremacists are still trying to play up the poor plight of illegal aliens, and shame anyone who defends President Trump and demands security along our borders.

In spite of the anti-Trump hate and injustice, We the People Rising honored the memory of the well-known, beloved Kate Steinle, murdered on Pier 14 at the hands of illegal alien Jose Garcia Zarate.

Rest in Peace, Kate. We will never forget you.

Justice for Kate: Sanctuary City Mayor Ed Lee Suddenly Dies

The news this morning was bittersweet for me, in that someone's death in itself is never a cause to celebrate ... usually.

In this case, however, I could not refrain from seeing a bright strain of justice in this sudden demise.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee suddenly passed away in Zuckerberg Hospital. He died at 1:11am this morning, specifically, although reports have not revealed the cause of death at this time.

I would say that Mayor Lee died from a sense of guilt. He should feel guilty. His reckless support for The City's outlaw defiance to federal immigration law led to Kate Steinle's untimely, tragic murder on Pier 14.

Here were my preliminary thoughts on Twitter:

Of course, the hatemongers came out to condemn my shaming the memory of Mayor Ed Lee:

Why is it sick for me to condemn a man who announced to the entire world that illegal aliens could run and hide in sanctuary city San Francisco?

He is very much responsible for her death, regardless of the corrupt verdict handed down by the San Francisco jury adjudicating the case.

Another response, this time from the center-left editor of "The Nooner" Scott Lay:

Really? This is how unhinged and deranged the Left has become. They have no compassion for American citizens, nor do they regard the emergent necessity for the rule of law to be honored. They would rather celebrate illegal aliens than demand that elected officials follow through on their elected, constitutional responsibilities: protect the rights of citizens.

Shame on all of them.

I see this as indirect justice. Mayor Ed Lee was swamped with allegations of corruption, nepotism, and left-wing favoritism. His greatest crime, however, was presiding over a corrupt, left-wing dystopia which allowed illegal aliens not only to roam the streets, but to kill an American.

With that, I will leave you with this video, in which We the People Rising commemorate the unjust murder of Kate Steinle:

Trump Supporter: Observations on Kate Steinle Trial

Dear Friends,

The Steinle murder trial verdict has been a very big shock for me and I know it has been to many activists, and perhaps it was for you also.

I'm wondering if the verdict wasn't a shock for those that are highly seasoned political watchers who better understand life and attitudes in the San Francisco area.

From what I have gathered in the news, it seems, the Steinle family was  actually a bit lukewarm on ending sanctuary cities and building a southern border wall.

The Steinle family has a right to their views, and I truly appreciate that everyone needs to deal with the death / murder of a family member in their own way.

Perhaps the Steinle family didn't appreciate being thrusted into this national debate of sanctuary cities and illegal immigration, but unfortunately bad luck chose them.

I didn't follow the Steinle family closely, but since I follow immigration news closely I have grazed upon some of  their statements.

The Steinles have a decidedly nuanced view on sanctuary cities. They support the concept (of sanctuary law) as a way to encourage immigrants, regardless of legal status, to come forward as victims or witnesses to crimes without fear of deportation. Yet they believe San Francisco went too far when then-Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi effectively ordered his department to cut off communication with federal immigration authorities.

Earlier in 2015 Kate's Brother Brad gave an interview, stating that Donald Trump was "sensationalizing sister's death", and that:  "Steinle called Trump's immigration policies -- which include building a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, "not rational" and "not common sense."

I really don't want to criticize the Steinle family, they didn't choose their life to follow this course.  Perhaps they were once enthusiastic liberal Democrats who had little to no interest in the topic of illegal immigration, and now because of what has happened their view's on illegal immigration are a bit more "nuanced".

Everyone has a right to handle personal tragedy in their own way, and I respect that.

I am still angered by the Jury's decision, but I am comforted by the fact that their decision will wake many people up, and this will ultimately strengthen our cause.

Greg Aprahamian

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NO JUSTICE FOR KATE

July 1, 2015 will forever be etched as the saddest day in the lives of the Steinle family, as their much loved daughter, Kate, died in the arms of her father on San Francisco’s Pier 14, her life forever stolen by a 7-time illegal alien felon and 5-time deportee, who should never have been in our country.

This verdict provides the Steinle family with no measure of justice for this senseless killing, and for whom San Francisco’s Sanctuary City mayor and council refuse to have any real compassion. Sadly, all Stolen Lives Families have experienced similar anguish and inconsolable loss, all reaching the horrifying reality of the direct roll played by the failure of our federal government to enforce the border, and now sanctuary cities have become fully culpable in these killings. Unfortunately, this trial took place inside the sanctuary city of San Francisco, and whose outcome was determined by a jury from the very same populace who voted into office persons who value the lives of illegal aliens over the lives of Americans. The memory of Kate, her family and all of Americans deserve better.

Earlier this month, at the National Remembrance Conference in Washington, DC, all attending Stolen Lives Families expressed their universal support President Donald Trump in his efforts to keep his promise to our families to secure the border and enforce our interior laws. Many of these families previously stood on stage with Trump wearing The Remembrance Project Stolen Lives shirts and courageously told their stories.

This unfair verdict will not end today. We continue to pray for the Steinles, and for all American families, and will continue our efforts at The Remembrance Project to help bring an end to these senseless killings.

Trump Supporters Take on Downtown LA: No DACA, No Amnesty, Americans First!

LA County for Trump refuses to sit back and allow illegal aliens and their enablers dominate the public square in our city and county.

Shame on them!

Why do we have to hear about illegal aliens and their plight?

It's not our fault that the illegal alien parents brought their kids into this country. The children have received incredible blessings and benefits in the United States. They need to take those skills to their home countries and make those nations great again.

The USA cannot serve as the Battered Women's Shelter of the world. Never should any country serve as the Social Worker for Everyone Else, either.

We have our own citizens in great need. We have our economy, our public policy, our own challenges which need to be addressed. No veteran should ever starve homeless on LA streets.

No American citizen should have to struggle to find a job just because he cannot speak Spanish, Chinese, or Korean.

The promotion of illegal aliens at the expense of American citizens, of California taxpayers must cease.

This is corruption. This is a domestic form of apartheid, and we are not going to have it!

Check out LA County for Trump taking the fight to Downtown LA, outshouting the illegal alien enablers and demanding justice for Americans, especially those killed by illegal aliens!

Who Killed Kate Steinle? Sanctuary Cities, and the Media Needs to Admit It

The trial for Kate Steinle’s alleged illegal alien murderer began on Monday, two years after her tragic, unnecessary demise. The Sacramento Bee Editorial Board argues that sanctuary cities are not to blame, but rather San Francisco’s lack of social services for homeless transients. I am surprised that the the Editorial Board didn’t demand more gun control.

Steinle’s unthinkable murder forced destructive sanctuary city policies to the forefront of the national debate on immigration. However, in typical liberal fashion, the editorial snidely disputes this argument, even disdaining “conservative” opinion on illegal immigration. First there’s the mocking “cue the chant ‘Build the Wall’” phrase, trying to turn the demand for border security into a mindless, meaningless mantra. For decades, Americans have demanded a barrier along the Southern border. Even moderate conservative Charles Krauthammer advocates for “the wall”—and he is no fan of President Trump. The editorial then takes a subtle jab at Bill O’Reilly—"when he still had a job at Fox News”—because he demanded the arrest of all elected officials complicit in sanctuary city policies. Actually, it is a federal crime to aid and abet illegal aliens.

More to the point, the editorial references one Breitbart article which exposed the sketchy statistics relating to illegal alien crimes, written by then Editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro: Media Cover Up Illegal Immigrant Criminality. Shapiro focused on the media’s obsessions with political correctness in reference to illegal aliens—“undocumented immigrant”, “immigrant without legal status,” etc. He outlined the media’s determination to remove mention of an assailant’s unlawful status in the country. The Democratic Party and the left-wing open borders phalanx of Big Business, Big Labor, and Big La Raza also downplay this factor in illegal alien murders committed on American soil, citing that “all murders are bad.” Sure, but illegal alien criminals in our country should have never been here, and if our immigration laws had been enforced, those deaths would have never occurred. This part escapes most reporters and editors.

I was stunned by this complaisant editorial defending sanctuary cities. I contacted the Editorial page editor Dan Morain. My first question dealt with the seemingly snide aside toward conservatives at the end of the editorial: “The Steinle family deserves the facts –not the echo chamber that is the court of conservative public opinion.” Morain advised not to read too much into that statement. Rather than calling Zarate’s presence on San Francisco streets “a crime”, he cited it as an example of negligent “dumping”. It is true that city officials and hospitals have engaged in unlawful dumping of mentally and physically ill transients, but that outrage should focus on citizens not getting basic services from our elected officials.

Besides, Zarate was a not mentally ill transient. This illegal alien deliberately fled to San Francisco. He had another felony warrant against him in Texas. He knew that immigration officials would not seek him out in “Sanctuary City” Francisco. He stole the firearm that he discharged to kill Steinle from a federal official. Both actions prove malice aforethought and calculation, and both require a sound mind and body.

I asked for Morain’s views about sanctuary city policies. He contended that the term is misused. “Police should be allowed to do their jobs. ICE should be allowed to their jobs.” Not satisfied, I asked: “Should cities comply with ICE detainers?” He was evasive: “I think that cities should follow the law.” Really?! I tried to pin him down: “Well, the law is greatly in dispute at this time.” No, it isn’t. One Oregon federal district court struck down the detainers, but ICE has since then updated them to assure municipal compliance.

The media’s compassion for illegals instead of the victims’ families is just astounding. Another example of this misplaced media fawning affected Angie Morfin of Salinas, CA—whose son was murdered by an illegal alien gangbanger: “No one ever contacted me … from Sacramento. [T]he Latino leaders and politicians all treat me like poison. The media … have always said that that I had too much hate in my heart.”  Morain also dismissed my questions about his contact with victims of illegals, initially cutting me off with “Yes, I have met with many victims of crimes.” Yes, but what about those connected to victims killed by illegals? I told him to let me finish. Morain admitted to me that he had not met with Kate’s parents.

Here we find how deep the liberal bias distorts the news and these troublesome trends. A number of times, Morain said “You will probably not agree with me.” Yes, that’s clear, but I am interested in why the press is so determined to push the sob stories. When it comes to violent crimes committed by illegals, the media downplays the lawlessness, pities the illegal alien criminal, and ignores the grieving parents. However in one sense, Morain is right about “dumping”. San Francisco refused to comply with the ICE detainer for Jose Zarate, and the city “dumped” the illegal on city streets.
The press largely dismisses the dark side of illegal immigration. They shed compassion on the illegals, often refusing to call them “illegal”. They want to promote open border policies and denigrate the government for not giving enough of taxpayer-subsidized benefits, even though sanctuary cities have ignored their primary role of protecting the rights and safety of the citizens.
Why such complaisance from the media?

I submit it largely goes back to the progressive worldview, one which posits that a large, providential government creating a better environment for all people would ensure that the basic goodness of man would emerge. The Rousseau world-view of the goodness of man, a one-world utopia where borders don’t matter and national identity phases away still drives the vantage point of these liberals. These illegal aliens are just victims of the global disturbances and distortions. It’s not their fault they become bad actors in a city. These illegals are not even criminals, but rather misguided souls who should have received the proper help from the government.

Ted Cruz: Time to End Sanctuary Cities

Fellow Conservative Patriot,

It’s been almost two years since Kate Steinle was murdered on a San Francisco pier – allegedly by an illegal alien who had just been released from a local jail.
While Ms. Steinle’s life was cut short by her murderer (she was just 32) on July 1, 2015, the crime was set in motion weeks earlier, when San Francisco became a “sanctuary city” and issued a memo that eliminated communication about illegal aliens with federal authorities.
That’s why I am leading the charge in the Senate to crack down on “sanctuary cities.”

American laws should protect American citizens, NOT violent predators who have no right to be in the USA!
The problem is there are too many radical mayors (not just in San Francisco, but also New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and literally dozens more from coast to coast!) who are beholden to left-wing interest groups, do NOT respect American sovereignty.
They are ordering their police departments NOT to turn over illegal aliens to federal authorities.
How many more innocent people will be robbed, assaulted or even killed before “sanctuary city” mayors wake up?
Enough is enough!  The American people need to rise up, put a stop to this kind of lawlessness and deal with the crime wave that began when President Obama swung open our borders to millions of illegals from Mexico, El Salvador and points beyond.
For Liberty,
Ted Cruz

P.S. I am doing everything I can in the Senate to crack down on “sanctuary cities.”  But I am only one senator.  And frankly, this problem can’t be solved in Washington. It needs to be solved in the very cities across our country where violent illegal aliens are being protected from deportation by out-of-control mayors.

Why Dianne Feinstein Refused to Vote Against Sanctuary Cities

In May, I received an e-letter from Dianne Feinstein explaining why she did not vote to defund or outlaw sanctuary cities in the United States. I believe that she issued me this response following my attendance at her town hall in West Adams.

Dear Mr. Schaper:

Thank you for writing to share your concerns about policies regarding “sanctuary cities.”  I appreciate the time you took to write, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.

I understand that you are concerned about so-called “sanctuary cities,” in which local governments deny requests from federal authorities to detain undocumented immigrants or notify about the pending release of an undocumented immigrant.  I recognize that you support penalizing these jurisdictions for not complying with immigration detainer and notification requests, and impose greater Federal criminal penalties on individuals who unlawfully reenter the country.

"Undocumented immigrants"? Oh brother, this is what we are dealing with.

Unbelievable.

Shame on Feinstein! She refused to join
Senator Toomey to honor Kate Steinle

As you may know, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) introduced legislation last Congress regarding sanctuary cities.  Senator Cruz’s bill, the “Stop Illegal Reentry Act” (S. 2193), also known as “Kate’s Law,” would have increased sentences for immigrants who reenter the U.S. unlawfully.  Senator Toomey’s bill, the “Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act” (S. 3100) would have denied federal funding to any jurisdictions that did not comply with detention or notification requests from federal authorities.

Guess what, DiFi? The House passed similar legislation--with the same names!--yesterday. How about that?! You better get busy and vote for these bills, or you are facing an early retirement.

To her limited credit, she has signaled her opposition to SB 54. Thank goodness, but let's see how long this lasts, especially if a more left-wing Democrat makes it into the Top Two against her.

I firmly believe that local governments should notify federal authorities upon request before releasing dangerous individuals into our communities.  In addition, I agree that local governments should be required to comply with these requests for such notice where they are unwilling to comply.

OK.

However, I voted against bills authored by Senator Cruz and Senator Toomey because I believe these bills would have swept up otherwise law-abiding immigrants and diverted important resources away from law enforcement agencies where it is most needed.  For instance, S. 3100 would have withheld numerous federal grants from local communities, including those that fund disaster relief efforts, economic adjustment assistance to those affected by military base closures, and public infrastructure projects.  In fiscal year 2015, California received $376.5 million in federal funding from grants targeted by Senator Toomey’s bill.  So, under this bill, California communities would have been at risk of losing important national security and safety funding.

"Otherwise law-abiding" except for the fact that they are in the country illegally, which make them not law-abiding, and therefore (wait for it) ... criminals. Therefore, they need to be deported, too.

Immigration is about safety and also sovereignty. We the People are entitled to secure borders and a clear cultural and moral identity separate from other nations.

Additionally, Senator Cruz’s bill created two new mandatory minimum sentences, which the U.S. Sentencing Commission estimated would have added 57,000 people to the prison population over five years, costing as many as billions of dollars to U.S. taxpayers.

Oh brother. Feinstein and her Democratic ilk doubled the national debt in eight years. Do we really care about another billion here or there? If she wants to engage in cost savings, why not ensure entitlement reforms and the closure of unnecessary programs.

Locking up violent offenders, especially illegal aliens, is worth the cost.

You may be interested to know that I had been working with local jurisdictions to strengthen participation in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Priority Enforcement Program (PEP), which facilitated collaboration between local and federal law enforcement to take custody of those individuals who pose a danger to public safety.  Unfortunately, President Trump terminated this program through his executive order titled “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States.”  This executive order also directs the Attorney General and Secretary of Homeland Security to withhold all federal funding to any “sanctuary” jurisdictions that fail to comply with federal immigration laws.

Yes! Any jurisdiction which refuses to comply with and abide by federal law should lose its funding. This is an example of Democratic blaming the law-abiding President and his widespread supporters for the problems created by illberal, lawless municipalities.

Please know that protecting the safety of Americans is my top priority as a United States Senator, and I have strongly supported, and will continue to support, securing our border and preventing dangerous individuals from entering the United States.  During the 113th Congress, I voted in favor of the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill, the "Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act" (S. 744), which passed the Senate by a strong bipartisan vote of 68 to 32 on June 27, 2013.  Among other things, this bill would have provided an unprecedented $46 billion for border security, required the deployment of 38,405 new trained, full-time, Border Patrol agents, and mandated the completion of at least 700 miles of pedestrian fencing along our Southern border.  Unfortunately, S. 744 was not considered by the House of Representatives before the 113th Congress adjourned.

If DiFi really cared about securing our border, then why hasn't she appropriated the funding for the wall? Her vote for the Obamacare of Immigration Reform bills was a total dude, since it would allow for amnesty first before the securing of our borders.

No way.

She should help appropriate the $46 billion first--and only that.

Once again, thank you for writing. Should you have any other questions or comments, please call my Washington office at (202) 224-3841 or visit my website at https://feinstein.senate.gov.

You can also follow me online at YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, and you can sign up for my email newsletter at https://feinstein.senate.gov/newsletter.

Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

  Dianne Feinstein
