CA Soda Tax Fizzles -- What Else Can We Stop?

From: Carl DeMaio
Subject: Breaking – CA Soda Tax Fizzles
Date: Tuesday, April 23, 2019
Friend-
We did it! Since January we’ve been fighting more than $15B in tax hikes pending in the California legislature. Yesterday, we got a score when backers of the absurd Soda Tax announced they were dropping the idea for this session because they did not get enough support from fellow lawmakers.
As you know, we have been targeting the 12 swing state legislators in the most vulnerable districts with an aggressive anti-tax campaign that our grassroots supporters have helped us fund. These 12 legislators are getting bombarded with calls, letters and emails from angry constituents telling them "NO NEW TAXES!"
But the Soda Tax fizzling out is just the beginning. We STILL have to peel off enough of these 12 vulnerable legislators to stop the other crazy tax hikes: Drinking Water Tax, Services Tax, Mileage Tax, Firearms Tax, Property Tax, Cell Tax, and more!
Can you help us KEEP THE PRESSURE ON by contributing to our anti-tax campaign today? Here’s the secure link.
Remember: politicians raise taxes when they don’t think there will be an organized opposition campaign to punish them. Let’s raise the funds to keep the pressure on right now and also show them we are ready to inflict consequences on them at the ballot box if they approve any of these crazy new taxes.
Best,
Carl DeMaio

President, TLRA: RPLAC Issued a "CYA Memo"

Claude Todoroff of the Torrance-Lomita Republican Assembly issued the following rebuke to RPLAC Treasurer Gary SCAM-inoff:

Gary,

In the business world we call what LACGOP is doing is a CYA memo. All that LACGOP will do this November is set us up for more defeats. You guys have lost so often that it has become your status quo. BTW did you notice in the clip from the radio show that Carl also mentioned that LACGOP was AWOL when the Repeal the Gas Tax drive was going onYou can't do a CYA memo for that.

When will BCR get their charter back? If you guys at LACGOP wanted to heal that wound you would show up at their next meeting and give it back to them without BCR having to reapply and all that other crap.

RINO Chairman
Richard Sherman

I hear that LACGOP was not happy that the Torrance clubs did precinct walking in the primary for our Torrance city council candidates instead of for Scotto or Dr. Ken Wright. The real races were at the city level since it was obvious to the clubs that Scotto and Dr. Wright would advance. I guess youguys weren't too concerned about Omar Navarro since you put all your support on that loser Edwin Duterte who burned bridges faster than he could built new ones. BTW we won 2 out of the 4 races. That's a lot better than LACGOP did in Nov. 2016 but I guess that was all Trump's fault and not the weak candidates who threw candidate Trump under the bus and caused the base not to vote for your little darlings. Now one of those failed candidates who threw candidate Trump under the bus in early July 2016 wants to be state chairman. God help us.

If that happens I will join the DTS faction too. The base wants candidates who wrap their arms around our president and not RINOs who will throw our president under the bus again in 2020. You need to tell the anti-Trumpers to get in the back of the bus and STFU. Trump knows how to win and the anti-Trumpers will only teach you what LACGOP has been doing for decades ie. how to LOSE.

Let me suggest that in order to reverse your Yes on 6 PR disaster that Mr. Sherman get on the radio show this Friday and let him discuss things with Carl. How much of a communication error could there have been when Yes on 6 was told to get their stuff out of your Encino offices? When did the LACGOP decide to junk the long standing GOP platform of lower taxes and less government? Was it the same time you flushed "family values" down the RINO toilet? When you start looking and behaving like Democrats you don't give your base a reason to support the GOP candidates. Start standing for our principles again like Pres. Trump has then you might start giving the Democrats a run for their money again. Does LACGOP really want to see Al Murasutchi (Christians need to evolve in their believes) or Ted Lieu (assign a shrink 24/7 to the WH to make sure the president doesn't go off his rocker) or Maxine Waters (impeach 45) being re-elected for another 2 year term? Maybe LACGOP should read the Art of the Deal and you could learn to be winners again like we were in the 60s and 70s. Instead it seems you are all reading "What Happened" the blame book by crooked Hillary.

Claude

Claude Todoroff doesn't mince words.

Maybe he should be the next Republican Party of Los Angeles County Chairman!

Gas Tax Repeal Campaign Celebrates Victory in Recall of Sen. Josh Newman
Politician Who Cast Deciding Vote for Gas Tax Hike is Recalled from Office

Sacramento politicians who supported the car and gas tax hikes should be asking themselves a simple question right now: “Am I next!?”

In an historic result, State Senator Josh Newman has become the SIXTH state politician in over 105 years to be Recalled from his office. The success of the Recall against Newman came despite Sacramento politicians and special interests spending more than $6 million against the Recall.

Carl DeMaio, Chairman of Reform California and one of the lead sponsors of the Recall Initiative against Josh Newman offers the following statement:

“Make no mistake about it: State Senator Josh Newman’s political career is over because he supported the car and gas tax hikes. No amount of special interest money could save Josh Newman because voter anger over the gas and car tax hikes is so intense.

Recalling Josh Newman from the State Legislature was only the first phase of our campaign. This November we look forward to repealing the car and gas tax hikes – and defeating more Sacramento politicians who backed these costly taxes that are fraudulently diverted from road repairs.

For Sacramento politicians my message is simple: you have gone too far and now you will pay the price at the ballot box.

For the California taxpayers who are struggling with high taxes my message is equally simple: Help is on the way!  Please join our grassroots revolt at www.GasTaxRepeal.org”

Reform California and a coalition of taxpayer groups recently submitted nearly 1 million signatures to force the Gas Tax Repeal Initiative on the November 2018 ballot and polls suggest the initiative will be the defining issue this election cycle in California.

Media availability – Dave McCulloch / mcculloch@capitolmediapartners.com

Facts about this massive hike:

-On Nov 1, 2017, Californians became subject to an additional tax of 12.5 cents more per gallon (20 cents more for diesel)

-Estimates suggest it will cost $700 or more per family, per year

–The tax also hits business owners who rely on transporting goods, raising the cost of everything from apples to Zinfindel

-Auto registration fees will increase as much as $175 a year - striking the wallets of hard-working families across the state

-The tax revenue goes into the state's General Fund, meaning there's zero guarantee the money will be used to actually fund the transportation "fixes" they claim will happen

-Nearly 1 million signatures were collected to qualify the measure on the November ballot; just over 550,000 were required

De Maio Gas Tax Repeal a Go (But They Need More Dough!)

Friend-

Because you have been amazingly supportive of the gas tax repeal initiative, I want to update you on the results of our first full week of signature gathering in the campaign.

The OUTSTANDING news is we are being flooded with signed petitions. Nearly 100,000 in the first week alone! (This may be a statewide record!) But this is also bad news on another level.

This avalanche of petitions has strained our campaign budget for collection, validation, and fulfillment mailings. Without immediate funding we may have to suspend portions of our efforts and with this momentum we absolutely do NOT want that to happen.

We are in urgent need of funding so we can keep up this pace. Can you contribute ANYTHING today to help us keep posting these numbers to repeal the gas tax? Here’s the secure link.

Without immediate funding we may have to suspend portions of our efforts and with this momentum we absolutely do NOT want that to happen.

The Sacramento politicians are SHOCKED at our success in our first week on the Gas Tax Repeal. This campaign is the start of our rebellion against their terrible policies and high taxes. Will you please help us keep this success going with a small contribution today? Thanks!

Carl DeMaio

Chairman, Reform California – Repeal the Gas Tax Initiative

PS: We need to get to over 500k signatures – and this pace is AMAZING. But we need the funding to keep up. Please contribute what you can today!

CA Gas Tax Repeal: Campaign Co-Chairs Announced

RELEASE: Regional Chairs Announced for Statewide Gas Tax Repeal

With California's massive gas tax hike now in effect, the efforts to repeal the tax are in high gear – including today's announcement of regional chairs to help push forward the repeal of the statewide Gas Tax. Distribution of petitions begins on November 27, and these chairs help spearhead that effort across the state's regions.

"Today's announcement of our regional chairs should show the politicians in Sacramento that our grassroots coalition only continues to grow as Californians discover how much this tax will affect them – especially when they learn how the wasteful raid on the wallets of Californians won't actually go to repairing roads," DeMaio said. "Our coalition is fighting back, and I'm thrilled to have these leaders as part of the team," DeMaio concluded.

Chair: Carl DeMaio

Northern California Co-Chairs:
Katy Grimes – President, Sacramento Taxpayers Association
Pete Constant – Former San Jose City Councilmember

Southern California Co-Chairs
Kimberlin Brown – Businesswoman/Soap Opera Actress and Candidate for US Congress CA-36
Michael Alexander – Chairman, California Tax Limitation Committee
In addition, CA gubernatorial candidate John Cox will serve as honorary Chair and is assisting with fundraising efforts.

Facts about this massive hike:

-On November 1, 2017, Californians became subject to 12 cents more per gallon (20 cents more for diesel) at the pump.
-Estimates suggest it will cost each car owner as much as $500 per car, per year
-Auto registration fees will increase as much as $175 a year – striking the wallets of hard-working families across the state.
-The tax revenue goes into the state's General Fund, meaning there's zero guarantee the money will be used to actually
fund the transportation "fixes" they claim will happen
-More than 45 events will be held across the state over the next 30 days to continue to grow the public awareness of the effort

Media avails can be arranged. Contact Dave McCulloch / 760-717-4100 or reply to this email.

More Winning: Gas Tax Repeal Filed

Friend–
I want you to be the first to know: we have officially filed the statewide initiative to
repeal the car and gas tax hikes!

After weeks of working with legal experts, we have come up with a state Constitutional Amendment
that is legally bulletproof! Here’s what it does:
—It rolls back the car and gas tax hikes that were enacted by
Sacramento politicians earlier this year
—It eliminates the politicians' power to raise car and gas taxes without a vote of the people
—Our initiative will save each California driver roughly $300 annually!

Carl De Maio

Here’s what we need to do next: we must fully fund our campaign
to collect the signatures to get the initiative on the November 2018 ballot.
Our polling shows a supermajority of California voters will approve this initiative —
but first we have to get the initiative qualified and in the 2018 ballot!
We want to get started with signature gathering in the next few weeks
but need to reach our funding goal first — so please contribute whatever you can today!
Best,
Carl DeMaio
Chairman - Reform California
PS: We cannot collect signatures on the initiative until
we get clearance from the Attorney General’s office.
We expect that by November 15 and will immediately get the forms to you by then.
Here is the text of the initiative. In the meantime, please help us get ready
by helping us get to our campaign funding goal!

DeMaio: Gas Tax Repeal a GO!

Carl DeMaio is revving up the movement to help We the People of California.
Carl DeMaio
I am really glad that I could help out with this movement, as well as the efforts to take out Josh Newman, the state senator in North Orange County who voted for the gas tax hike.
Check out his latest appeal for funds:
We have just heard back from the Secretary of State's Office that August 22, 2017 is their recommended deadline for our coalition to file the text of our car and gas tax repeal initiative!
Before we file, we must complete our legal vetting process and show our coalition partners that we have enough funding in the campaign to collect the signatures.
I recognize that you are willing to volunteer to collect signatures for free and we will DEFINITELY need your help with that. However, please recognize that we do need campaign funding so we can pay for the legal fees, filing fees, signature validation, and supplement the work of our army of volunteers.

As you know with our success in the Pension Reform initiatives and the Recall initiative, we've done this before – and we do it right. I wouldn't be asking if it were not critical at this time to raise funds to proceed.
Please help! We cannot allow this car and gas tax hike to remain in effect – it costs too many Californians too much and the politicians will simply raid the funds like they always do!
Thank you!
Carl DeMaio
Chairman - Reform California

Desperate California Democrats: Suing College Republicans?!

The California Democratic Party is falling apart, fast.

They are desperate to hold onto power, but they are fraying from within and flailing from without.

The California Nurses Association has declared war on Speaker Anthony Rendon. One of the state senators Josh Newman, is the target of a successful and growing recall effort.

President Trump's policies are forcing the illegal aliens to flee the state of California.

More good news: Assemblyman and gubernatorial candidate Travis Allen's gas tax repeal has made it onto the ballot for the November 2018 Election.

The California Democratic Party is facing the populist revolt in-house which had propelled President Trump into the White House last year!

Check out what the creepy, evil Democrats in Sacramento are trying to pull now!

From the desk of Carl De Maio:

Friend– In the past three weeks we have seen the most outrageous abuse of power by Sacramento politicians to try to stop our effort to repeal the car and gas tax hikes - and these desperate antics only tell me that we are winning.  Here's the latest stunt they pulled:

Sacramento politicians are actually suing three college students who signed the initial paperwork to trigger the Recall effort with the hope of pressuring them to rescind their sponsorship of the effort.  They are college students after all - with no financial resources to afford a legal defense.  This is pure harassment and bullying and that's why our campaign coalition is mounting a vigorous legal defense for these college students.

Unreal yet true. Of course, they filed the legal challenge in Sacramento County, since that means that they students will have to exhaust further resources by driving, commuting, etc at least six hours to go to court.

Or they have to pay lawyers to do it, I guess. How pathetic can one get?! Now "The Democracy" harasses young people. They just can't it through their heads that California citizens are fed up with being treated like second class serfs who have to pay for the hoity-toity elite to party on our dime.

Not any more.

Will you stand with these three colleges students against these bullying tactics?  Please contribute whatever you can to our campaign today at this secure link.

Fortunately, every time the Sacramento politicians have attacked us, we have prevailed - but only with YOUR help.

First the politicians hired "blockers" to intimidate and harass our volunteers collecting signatures - but with YOUR help we hired college students to collect almost 100,000 signatures to qualify the initiative!  Then the politicians passed a law that in-effect strips citizens of the right to Recall politicians in a timely manner, but with YOUR help we got our signatures in before the law went into effect.

I was there at one event to push off the hateful anti-recall bigots. One of them refused to explain to me why it's OK to tax poor and working Californians who barely make ends meet as it is:

Sacramento politicians are desperate with these abusive tactics.  They know two things: 1) Our campaign will strip them of the two-thirds majority they need to raise taxes without a public vote.  2) Our car/gas tax repeal measure will be on the ballot in November 2018 and it will become the focus of California's political debate and will negatively impact their re-election efforts.

The winning never stops!

Thank God for this movement. This is the kind of fight we need to see more from grassroots activists and elected officials. Too many Republicans refuse to right. Too many of them have played nice with the Democrats, and what has it given us?

More debt, more corruption, more waste and fraud, and more destruction within our once beautiful state. Democrats have to go, but so do the RINOs who go along with the corrupt program.

Our campaign strategy is working - and is the only viable effort we have to take back California!  Please stand with us today by making a contribution so we can continue our record of success in overcoming the abusive tactics of Sacramento politicians.  Contribute here.

Thank you so so much!

Best,

Carl DeMaio

Chairman - Reform California

Carl DeMaio Gets It: Stop Illegal Immigration

I have not been a big fan of Carl DeMaio.

I don't believe that the California Republican Party should be embracing the LGBT Agenda, and DeMaio is openly gay. He even walked in a gay pride parade in San Diego. Activists on the left and the right booed him.

I understand why Republicans and tea party activists in CD-52 decided to support Peters for clear, strategic reasons. A gay Republican elected to office would affect the national platform or at least further antagonize the grassroots.

Carl DeMaio
The Republican Party needs to stick to life and family, marriage can be nothing more than one man and one woman.

The DeMaio drama from 2014 has passed.

He now hosts a radio program in the San Diego area. His show must have some prominence as well as promise, since he invited three major candidates for US Senate on his program before the primary. One of hte candidates even announced his decision to drop out--Rocky Chavez--on that program.

Other sources have reminded me that DeMaio is conservative on key issues, and should not be dismissed outright. One source was ready to endorsement was ready to endorse him in the 2014 Congressional race, but his decision to support funding of Planned Parenthood prevented the endorsement.

Now I have another reason to hear DeMaio's views. He listed five key issues that an unify the state party and make California Great Again in 2018.

I will focus on one that he mentioned.

From The DeMaio Report:

Illegal Immigration: Yes, you read that issue correctly.  Contrary to what liberal pundits in the media think, California voters do not support the “open border” and Sanctuary City philosophy of the Democrats.  The GOP should proactively pursue a two-track approach on immigration – one to help legal immigrants pursue the American Dream while another track that combats illegal immigration.

Finally!

Someone in the upper-echelon of California GOP politics is getting it.

We the People of the state of California expect our lawmakers to control the border, not cede to rampant crowing and overrunning of our borders.

Donald Trump's election victory has signaled that it's time to put Americans first in our country, and to stop pandering to liberal, elitist notions which have nothing to do with safeguarding the necessary elements and the best interests of our citizenry.

The United States cannot be the welfare stae and orphanage for the rest of the world, and no one should shame us for that.

I have written before and I will affirm that the California Republican Party is not in trouble because of Prop 187. The state party is in trouble because ... the state is in trouble. The culture is tilting left, and a robust conservative opposition is needed, with a state government which caters to all, and not just welfare recipients, illegal aliens, and public sector unions.

But targeting illegal immigration is a win-win for California Republicans.

Secure the border (with a wall), E-Verify, welfare reform. triple the California National Guard along the Southern border--and no amnesty. If there is one tweak I would make, I think that his country needs to suspend immigration until our economy recovers and serves American citizens, then streamline the legal immigration process to ensure that this country only gets the best for the country's economic needs.
