TAKE IT DOWN PROTEST in front of Rep Lou Correa Town Hall
8/21/17 Santa Ana, CA District Office
Report by Robin Hvidston
Rep Lou Correa held a Veterans Town Hall. When We The People Rising members attempted to register for the town hall, the online registration was "sold out." However, several attendees as they left the meeting said there were plenty of empty seats at the town hall.

VIDEO PROTEST during the town hall, calling for Rep Lou Correa to remove the student painting of the Statue of Liberty wearing a Muslim hijab in the district office.

Flyers were distributed to interested passersby. There were approximately 5 Santa Ana Police Officers monitoring the protest. The officers did not seek to limit the group. The protest was staged in front of the doors where the meeting was being held.

Some of the attendees were interested in the protest and were therefore handed a flyer. Several were not happy when they learned about the painting in their congressman's office. There were those who sided with the congressman. One man flipped the group off as he entered the building and also when he departed. There was a mother with children in her SUV who stopped by the protest site, and when she was informed about the issue via a flyer, she was outraged to learn about the painting in her congressman's office. Another man who drove by in a Mustang, stopped by the protest, and when he was handed a flyer he was very angry to learn the congressman was displaying the painting.

A man, who most likely was of the Muslim faith, asked questions and made statements in favor of the painting as he filmed the group on his cell phone, then drove away.

When the event ended at about 8:10pm, Raul Rodriguez left the protest site and staged near a back door entrance where police officers were whisking the congressman out by slipping him underneath curtains and out a back door. However, Raul spied him as he departed through the door and was able to express his loud opposition to the painting of the Statue of Liberty wearing a hijab, via his bullhorn
.

Congressman Lou Correa's Office: "Remove Lady Liberty Hijab"--Staffer Throws Me Out!

Congressman Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) has a picture of Lady Liberty posted on his wall.

And she is wearing a hijab.

The picture was submitted as a part of his Congressional Art Contest.

It's offensive. It's wrong.

Islam and our constitutional republic are completely incompatible.

When I went to Correa's district office, the door was locked in my face. I had to ring a buzzer in order go get inside. The staff inside asked me what I wanted.

When I told her I wanted to talk about the Lady Liberty painting, they asked if I was a member of We the People Rising.

What? Why is the staffer so worried about We the People Rising?

I explicitly came on my own with my own viewpoints on this matter, since I disagree with the argument about the separation of church and state.

For me, Islam and the United States' culture of Judeo-Christian values and Western principles cannot exist side-by-side with Islam.

Liberty cannot be wrapped in a hijab, and wrote about that in one of my more recent articles for Townhall.com. Click here.

The staffer let me in the room, yet required me to sign in. I was a little offended by that, but so be it.

When I sat down, I explained to another staffer why I did not like the painting, and why I demanded that it be taken down.

As I was finishing my last comment, one of Correa's staffers burst into the room and told me to leave!

"You Need to Leave!"

The staffer above even claimed that We the People Rising were sending death threats to Congressman Correa's office--that's simply not true!

This guy claimed that he was willing to talk to me outside, but as soon as I left the office, he slammed the door in my face!

Unbelievable!

The Congressman is absolutely determined to protect the picture on the wall, but why?

And what has gotten his office staffers so worked up that now people have to buzz in just to see him?

Contact Congressman Lou Correa's office, and tell them to start respect constituents and citizens.

And tell him to take down that offensive, un-American painting!

Below is a constituent's report about her visit to Rep Lou Correa's office in regard the student art entry of the Statue of Liberty wearing a HIJAB.

CONSTITUENT VISITS REP LOU CORREA'S DISTRICT OFFICE
When I went to Correa's office I said I was there to get info on the propaganda piece (pointing to the painting).  The receptionist must have pressed the panic button because immediately that tall lanky guy appears.  I asked to see the detailed description on the back.  He said, "No, as the name of the artist was on it ".  I told him I wasn't interested in getting the name, just the description so I could understand what it was supposed to represent.  Long story short I couldn't &  the receptionist said that she had sent my comments to Correa.  The big hint was I should leave.  I stayed a full 15 minutes trying to get info on the Committee that approved it.  No luck.  He said that 'my group  People Rising'  had threatened them & they were being cautious.  I said that I didn't belong to any group.  I'm going to write a letter to the editor of the Register.  I want to find out who's on this Committee that approved it - the ones right here in Correa's District are the ones who approved it.  Will also write to the 2 Representatives listed on the website of the Arts Committee - one is a Dem & the other a Rep.
